What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
BLUB__BLUB replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Hood = still damn good. We tried to carry this battle, but failed. My fault, should have gotten that Donskoi. I got 3 cits on him. Three times he showed me broadside, but RNGesus said no BLAP. I think I must invest more in sending him sheep... Still, a 20 min game, 30 sec reload = max 40 salvos = 160 shells. Hit 58 so accuracy is pretty hot damn good. -

I'm quite sure you are right, I have seen it many times. One side gets 3 divisions, the other as well. But the first is 3x3, and the other is 3x2 (we were one of the 2-divs, CV and DD). But yes it makes the problem worse. However that 3x3 is not the problem, when we checked two of those 3 divs had ~90%WR... when we added the 3 WR... people in divs usually div up with similar people... ROFLSTOMP much, well yes. -

Yes it is. Why? Check here: https://wows-numbers.com/player/569245613,PolRuud/?type=div2 You do fine up to T6, 7. What you need to do is play T5,6,7 - until you are good enough. And "good enough"means ypou maintain a steady winrate pof over 50% even in weekends. It also means that you have played most ships up to T6, 7... I play with my son as well. It took me a while before I was kinda "sure" in T8, 9 10. I do not consider myself good enough to play that all the time and in any ship (even though I have them grinded). I know I'd fail and be a liability to the team. So I joined a clan and am learning, I also get pointers here how to do it. Check your stats, you will see where you are good and where not. https://wows-numbers.com/player/569245613,PolRuud/? Then think about where you need to improve. There's plenty ships you play good. There's also some that you do not, it is clear enough. You will see for yourself and draw the conclusion. -
I was already thinking, "what skillgap", but now that I know your team still lost: I see. It means enemy CV had 650 XP, really. Oh damn. But... that is not just CV skillgap. Your whole team was a one big multiple skillgap, then... AKA yes there is a skillgap, but it's not just on CV. Maybe this thread is also relevant.

Which is because YOU PLAY CV. I am terrible with DDs and I know it. Still I do sort of OK, because the other guy gets blapped by the CV and I do not. My usual divvie is a DD-main (he likes them, so better he play it than me) and since he usually divs up wit a CV he doesn't give a damn. He can play a DD without smoke, div up with my CV, and then this happens. And that is not an exception.
-
He does not prove your point at all. His WR in Enterprise is not higher than in his BBs. Also, even if CVs are broken AF it doesn't really matter for WR or score in the case of the average player. It means he plays better than the average. In all the ships that he has > 50% WR or more than average damage. You will lose to him if you have 50% average, usually. No matter even if you have the same ship.

I tried to use the name :aimbot#1: but alas no worky. Dammit. -
The only thing I sort of "respect" is that EU-DD at T10, when I am in a T8 CV (Halland? I think that's the one). But, that is because it can pull a trick: turn off AA< and then I will spot him when I am on top of him already (too late). At that moment he pulls open his AA and I lose a LOT of planes. Bad for me, good for him. But... It is only because he can remain unspotted, too late for me to aim rockets. So he gets away with it. The thing is - if he does it too early or too late, I will escape with most of my planes. And then I will wait until his "boost" is over and smack him anyway. Or come back to do it. And I wil keep an eye out for his general position, to make sure I'll finish him off later. Which I can do. Or just spot him and have my teammates finish him. For the rest, a CV (even if not unicum, like me) can just crap all over any AA. It is so bad I can even take Ark Royal in a fail-division, get T9 and still kick "heavy AA ships". And yes that includes Friesland. I just have to be a bit more careful. And it will take longer. But I'll still kill him, still have plenty planes left to wreck more stuff and nothing he can do to me. I don't screenshot all of those games but getting 100k in a T9 game is quite possible. I usually do more DMG in Ark Royal when it is a loss, because ships come towards me... saves time... And now I am starting "for real" on the Ryujo and such, we'll see how that goes. Example 1 (divmate in T7 Jervis). Mind the red Ark Royal did about same XP: Example 2 (divmate in T7 Colorado). That Alsace was last surviving, enemy team was ahead, and needed to kill him if we wanted to win. So: Example 3 (with my usual divmate... he is a DD main). Always very helpful to have a DD team up, he can just about kill everything with those sea-mines:
-
I'd say crack up AA to "EU DD T10" level. They are damn annoying but if done well can defend themselves against planes. And why the spotting stays as is and doesn't get changed to minimap only is beyond me. Hell I'd even profit from it in a CV, finally no more "kill secures" just after I dropped the torps.
-
Yeah, well, I never said WG wasn't sort of weird sometimes. To me it doesn't matter much, I am just saving up for the Stalingrad which is the only (steel) thing interesting. Then get Thunderer for coal I suppose. Nothing else there I'd like to have much but that's just me.
-
I'm just savvy and not unicum by a looooong shot. A wee bit over the average. I only "worked through" Ryujo so far, to get to t10. Mostly playing weekends and just starting to really grind the captain for it. 65% solo, about the same that I do in Ark Royal when in a div of 3. I'd say Ryujo has much more carry-potential. AR is a great damage dealer though, but not like Ryujo is lacking there. And it DOES reflect in my performance. Look at the Ark Royal WR/DMG in solo-2-3. Solo I can just about keep up 50% or near that. I cannot carry there taters... need help. Two-div the WR goes up, 3-DIV WR even more. But damage is less. I think WR is more important than damage. Which is why I leave ships to my divmates to finish (as I know they'll do so). Less damage for me, better WR. And I'd say I know Ark Royal rather well (mind, not saying that there's no room for improvement). Yes CVs are blatantly broken AF. I'm a bit over average with CVs, but... If I can do stuff like that, it's not really balanced. BTW how about 7 kills then. My team actually was sort of "failing slowly" here, which is when CV does best. Well depends. First of all are they KS - no definitely not in Ryujo. But what is a Kill Secure? KS means, (my opinion) that you either kill a ship "sooner" that is gonna die anyway (a BB having 3 perma-fires on 100HP), or kill off one that has such low health your shot/bomb/ whatever is enough to kill it 10x over and anyone else could have done it. Which isn't a bad thing, as even a 5HP BB can still blap one of your cruisers. I'd say the most influential ones are when you kill a ship that tries to retreat to heal up, or what nobody else can hit. And what are "solo kills"? It doesn't actually matter who gets the kill, as long as the reds are dead. If I can direct my divmate to a ship that used DCP it appears far more influential, if he can kill him faster than I can. I'd say it is more influence if you do 99% of the damage than if you do that last 1% every time. Except if you are the only one that could get that kill secured.

Not really, say you need to rotate out for a bit and then your clan gets to Gale. You have missed some squall steel - but you will get it when you win in Gale. As such a win in a higher league will (sort of) double-pay.
-
Enemy bottom CV probably had less chance to harvest anything for himself. Happens to me as well, but I usually end above the other CV-player (XP-related) and the damage-farm-race. However, if I am in Ark Royal and my team is not completely worthless, there is a chance I'll not score big. This is because my planes are slow - while they are flying towards target, it is spotted, and shot at. I'll set fire and torp stuff, but the kill is usually not mine. Bad luck being better --> If I set 2 fires, he's gonna use DCP immediately. And guess what, I am not gonna be there to set the next (perma) fire but my teammates will. If used in div, this will cause WR to rise. However it means that if you have any good teammates the difference between AP-CV and HE-CV will be significant. This also causes that I can get 5 kills in Ryujo (easy) and none, maybe one or two, in Ark Royal. But if my team slowly potatoes to a loss my score in Ark Royal will be much much higher than in Ryujo. There will be less and less teammates and my fires/floodings will be the things that sink ships (in the end).

That's true also. I think regarding Midway he also means those TiTS, they are quite powerful. At T6 it hasn't gotten boring yet (though some try with 6 Spees...), T10 got boring from day 2 on. We've seen a team they had a Cv and 6 Dds and that went damn well. Great show, I LOLd even though we lost. Mind Ark Royal... triple torps... and carpetbombers even suitable for the vision-impaired... (and if you see a DD and you forgot rockets/bombs you just torp him). IMO he's got a point though. I could not stop the cruisers in Midway, nor in Hakuryu. Once they killed my teammates, the CV was toast. But not at T6. Given time I could kill all of them. I'm no unicum by far so maybe they can do it. But I guess they can do it while sleeping in T6, then.

Yeah I don't think we need much more attacks with T6 than with T10. However the most important factor is AA, sort of. With Ark Royal I just dive into 4 cruisers. Yes my planes die, but one of those cruisers gets the full strike. Quite sure a T10 won't cut it. Not to me. Looks like next meta is gonna be Ryujo and 6 Spees, full on. What they'll do is bust through and get the CV, so better hide your [edited] (or not be there...). Seems a BB (preferably Hand Of Stalin Produced, of course) is also viable. My clan is using "whatever" for cruisers. More dakka = better.

Hmmm well. Could with a Ryujo if you get lucky with AP bombs. 5100 per bomb. 4x2 planes. Well you won't get all 4 attacks off, but at least two. 20k in one go. Torpedoes do 6500, and same goes for that. And there's (for example) a Trento with 36k HP, so... I think that's the fattest one, except Graf Spee. Midway on DM, well maybe. But usually not. Even if he's parked and you get him from the side, there's still LM. Not like I'm not gonna get those two attacks off in T6. One run, possible.

Makes sense, a T6 CV is still competitive in T8. I think somewhere here you stated such yourself. T10 CVs don't have to be competitive in T12... the gap between a T8-T10 CV is a lot smaller, T10 not that much stronger.

I'd actually do it, bring it on.

???? So, you take a DD that has no smoke, but as quid-pro-quo (finally) has enough AA to be a nuisance, and then you do not use the AA??? I must be reading that wrong...
-
Well, if you look at the WR and damage output of CVs that point is not far off. Looks like I'd better take my Arizona than my Ark Royal... I'm sure you'd like me to. Only two BBs in T6 do worse damage than even the best CV, and the WR for BBs is also more favourable. A similar thing is going on with cruisers and DDs. Then add service cost vs delivery of credits. Nobody will want to play CV. Which you will like, problem is WG will not like it... What WG will get right on is the money. Nobody is gonna pay for a ship that doesn't deliver and doesn't pull its weight. And knowing WG a bit they'll just make it easier farming, most likely. So you'll get more CVs... which is THEIR goal. And it will not be done by balancing out by making better gameplay... probably just heavier torpedoes or stuff like that.
-
Those 3 probably died to CV or as usual (ran to cap, smoke up, die). Nerfing CV damage didn't solve much except some CVs can now only hunt DDs, larger targets being too difficult. The thing is - do fighters really protect DDs, all they do is shoot down a few planes and sometimes not even the attacking ones but the last ones. They do give away the position of the friendly DD though. So what I do is use them for spotting, trying to snowball the game "in the right direction". For example if our DD is in a cap, I'll put planes not right over him but in a position so that reds coming to that cap are spotted (hoping team will shoot those, as such protecting our DD). It also provides "eyes" for the DD which is in smoke so he can dakka dakka some. Yup, that indeed. I find that DD hard to kill. But IMO that is a better solution: make AA stronger for DDs instead of nerfing CV into oblivion.
-
The thing about RN CVs is, they are dependent on DoT. I'm not the very best CV player but I'm good enough, and I know most stuff (mostly because people here told me and I checked). They told me the Ark Royal needs lotsa GitGud and yes it does. Those T4 planes... man they are sloooowwww and flimsy. However you get LOTS of them. If you have a teammate you can do mega-damage, as in "that Bismarck used damage control"... if no friends, well the carpet-bombers are still excellent. But the difference is clear, check my stats for Ark Royal: solo ~50% and in div-2 60%, div-3 almost 70%.... Solo, the Furious is better (but I just grinded through that). I'm now working on GitGud for the Ryujo. Grinded the rest to T10 but didn't mind about WR (and 90% played in weekends... oh boy...). Ryujo is much stronger certainly when playing solo. It does have some carry-potential which Ark Royal has not. Also you'll never get kills in Ark Royal (usually) because on your way in for the final blow the victim gets "kill secured"... Well yes indeed it is good to know, but WG is pumping them out so fast I can't keep the grind up to try them all. Besides that I don't play DD (I suck and I have a usual divmate that is quite good), lucky for me there are videos... As for Visby - probably same as WG now make me regrind the Donskoi (which I thought was most terrible). And for the new US ships need to regrind Colorado... oh my... as I needed to grind lots of crappy boats to get Venezia. Some sadist at WG has probably put those ships there, for "survival entertainment" or something! TBH yes I also think that kind of bombs is unfair against DDs, they have no defence (only "just dodge"). Rockets are bad, too. Usually though I do not feel too much sorry for them, as there is only 1 CV and mostly 3-4 DDs, and they wil try to get me as well. Not like I have much defence in that floating island (spotted from the moon) either if they launch their torps at me, or spot me for their friends. CV mechanics are just faulty, and nerfing them does not make those faults go away. It just makes the DD a more (only viable) target, by lack of anything else. I see some CVs are only able to get the DDs and not much else anymore. So that is what they do...
-
I dunno. I kinda think they deserve a good revenge, sometimes. If they manage to get me, I always give them +1. Sometimes it even wins them the game. Depends if they have done the rest of their duties, or will do it after.
