Lets talk Republique... The French Tier X BB
Starchy_Tuber replied to Nipponsei's topic in General Discussion
I love it. My Random stats for WR are terrible in her atm (just some really unlucky teams and only 47 games solo) but I am averaging 114k damage per game which isn't bad .... and until a really bad patch in Ranked I was on 70% WR and av 104k. My only other comparable ship was my getting the GK in the German line, and after the constant trolling dispersion in those ships Alsace and Repub felt glorious in terms of accuracy... you will always get dodgy dispersion rolls in any ship though. My only "Legitimate" complaint is that she could do with something like Hydro, or a Fighter place...or a Helo for that H pad - if nothing other to help spot torps and DDs. I dislike the Legendary Module as it kills the range down to "pathetic" and I find I can reliably hit out to 26km for crits without it... with it on I'm almost always in range of Worcesters, and Repub doesn't like fire or ifhe at all. -
The days of being a proper "Beta Tester" and that meaning something ended two decades ago... literally anybody can be a beta tester nowadays. As such, I fail to see any significance in that claim other than that you have learned very little about the game over a very long period of time. Well done.

Might take a while.... got me doubting myself now... I have also been doing this with yorck and algerie so could have misremembered it...but I'm sure I Citadelled it from the rear 3 times as it was running north in one game.... ..but it still got away and lived. edit - can't do anything else till evening, have got to get a tank 3d model finished by end of office hours!

I've been playing Narai a lot to grind credits, so have got a lot of replays to go through... here's citadel on ranger... (image)
-
Through the roof - I assume, I didn't check it in port (can't atm) but IFHE plunging fire gets consistent citadels on both the CVs in Narai. I can screenshot it tonight.

not always... sometimes the Nicholas DD goes eastward and north with King, sometimes it cuts inside. But.. if a cruiser takes the more SouthWesterly entrance (not doing civies, just take the "alternate" more western way in) they can hit the Camptown and Dallas from the west before it gets to torp anybody - they will both come for you, rather than torping the convoy ships coming in on the northeasterly entrance. KING - i've gotten plenty of citadels with IFHE Atlanta, but almost none shooting BB or CA AP at it...just lots of overpens

Coop vs Random RN missions etc Have you increased Coop play
Starchy_Tuber replied to Gnirf's topic in General Discussion
Yes. More co-op. Faster for most of the stuff and I don't bugger-up anybody else's random game by being bad in a DD.- 36 replies

He is right Kenalb - I did that and my first 1500 games were a nightmare of n00bitity and Premium Derpship - learn the ships by playing through them without skipping them.... you only end up having to go back and playing them to learn how to play properly anyway .... but with a bad stat history that will dog you for evermore. edit: If you want to learn 'how to shoot' play cruisers - they will also teach you about armour-angling. Russian line has accurate guns, so you tend to hit when you shoot properly.... once you know you can hit what you are shooting at, go BBs (if you want to go BBs). If you can't hit reliably then battleships will never be good for you: you don't get enough chances to shoot (slow reload), French higher BBs have fewer gun turrets and you need to learn to fire accurate salvos to take advantage of turning ships etc (so no time to fire one shot to see if you can land the others) Lyon is a shotgun - so it won't teach you much about shooting tbph... Richy has only 2 turrets - if you can't shoot accurately you will be a hindrance to your team, same for Republique. You also need to learn/know armour-angling and over-match mechanics - honestly learn in lower tier cruiser first - higher tiers will punish you every time for mistakes.

Should "This is Too Complex" still be a valid excuse?

Mekanixs? (j/k) -
I've killed King from inside the end-harbour with Atlanta and IFHE and 13km range (with IFHE you can citadel it) ... once "legitimately", and once when it grounded at the "harbour exit" and got stuck - the main issue is spotting it if there's nobody to spot it from the "Northern" approach and getting there early (see later) There is a Nicholas DD that sometimes goes with KING and the zombie-Phoenix, sometimes it cuts inside and comes at you from the non-border exit. I don't know why it chooses either route. Around the same spot is that ruddy Campletown DD, that "always" torps the leading Convoy Liberty ship *unless* a) you block the torps with your hull b) you attack it early, either from the easterly entrance or coming in from the west its supported by the Dallas though AND it will run and smoke after doing its initial torp attack... Atlanta (again) with radar is its nemesis, but you need to be aggressive and you must be in front of the Liberty ships...but if you are you can also nail KING very early on. Weird Recent *thing* - in 3 games yesterday night players were leaving the convoy almost right at the start to head to the northeast corner - when asked why they said: "because KING spawns there". No, it does not. No idea where people are getting that from but its totally duff info - it spawns in the southeast, within the 'harbour', and sails Northwards along the Eastern map edge. willy-waving: Its still good earner, with standard flags, when you get 5 stars!

two Colorados. highest WR 41%, both sailed to get civies despite all reasoning, civies got away O . M . G. Next Game: Gneisenau sails to civies, telling him not to all the way, then he chucks U -turn and goes NE to get Lex...(he fails) We "win" with 1 star as there's nobody in end zone to protect convoy ships,,,and they lost the lead ship and 1 other to Missouri ... whilst Gneisenau is off running after civies.... the one ship that can easily take out the Missouri, fs-off to shoot civies..... OMG#2 (Not that it's a big deal but, also - 2 Karma) *sigh*

The sheer levels of Muppetry in this scenario is astonishing - so many times i watch (and scream at) BBs abandoning the convoy to avoid Missouri and go hunting the civy ships, once in a div of 3 BBs - the sum entirety of BBs in the scenario, in a div, all ran after the civy ships.. ffs. In another game a Colorado ran all the way NE "to get Lexington" - despite me assuring him that I had already killed it with my Atlanta - he spent the rest of the game "waiting for Lexington" to appear. "I crap ye notte" IN a poor team of only 1 BB, but at least a Scharnhorst - it ran after the civvies (yet again) and managed to get torped badly by the DD, then die ramming a civy ship. Just now in a team with 3 BBs, 1 went after civvies with a cruiser, 1 went after Lexington with another cruiser, and the 3rd BB beached halfway up the map and "couldn't get off" - meanwhile I am in the Atlanta with a Yorck in the end zone - that's it, just us...and that's after we took out Missouri and his pal whilst the BBs were on their pleasure cruise. And when BBs don't run off on useless chases, when they do stay with the convoy - they sit BEHIND IT or hide in the green circle - the mere concept of using their hulls to protect the convoy - no, too complex for them - they hide behind the convoy ships and let the convoy ships take torps... then become amazed when the scenario is lost. Similarly BBs hiding between the island and Cimarron (which is hard to do), instead of at the very least parking between Cimarron and the enemy... go out and kill stiff? oh, no way, this little green circle is mine and im not moving! But it's not just BBs - a div of 3 DDs because "This scenario is perfect for DDs".... (all three dead before halfway).... OMG After around 2300 hours though.... far less muppetry..but any time i get over 200k in the Atlanta I figure the team has done badly - with a good team i can't get more than around 150k as everything is killed too quickly for my spam to accrue high damage...and when I got "Major contributor" - oh boy, how bad was that team. 4 times on or around 300k damage - all loses. What the scenario really needs is a full-screen message every minute "PROTECT THE CONVOY DERPSHIPS!"

A Newbie Question - HOW can they hit me instantly ?
Starchy_Tuber replied to OnceBittenTwiceShy's topic in General Discussion
nomogram dynamic crosshair gives you a guide to 20kt and 30kt speeds, but you still have to manual compensate for their actual speed.... bearing in mind turns slow every ship, but to variable degrees and not everybody sails at full speed all the time. -
A Newbie Question - HOW can they hit me instantly ?
Starchy_Tuber replied to OnceBittenTwiceShy's topic in General Discussion
This - the thing that I have witnessed good players doing, that defines them over not-so-good-players, is "anticipation" and "Positioning" - anticipating when and where a ship will turn (often the best time to shoot it) and then where they position themselves on the map. Neither can be taught or gained from mods... including aiming mods... as you are shooting at where the ship will be when it is no longer doing the thing it is currently doing... i.e. if you aim where it is going at X knots good players will be jinking and changing speed anyway, which makes aiming there a kind of a waste. So.... you could have the best aim in the world and not hit much. This is hard to learn. -
..in 2016. I fail to see the relevance to today's gaming environment with a lot more (and different) ships, changed mechanics and a different meta. (Honestly, the missing {new} ships on their own render it meaningless)

Am I m missing something here? isn't that chart from 2016...?

@Sehales I have the same problem - cannot login to the PT server. Worked fine in Part 1, now it thinks I either don't have an account, or my details are invalid (checked, they are correct). {I cannot re-register as that does recognise my account (name and email) are already used.} My daughter's account works fine - mine doesn't. The only change between Part 1 test and Part 2 test is that I have left my Clan AFTF and moved to ANV. On PT I had the AFTF CLan setup there and was its registrar - cant see why that might be an issue but nothing else has changed on my account in that time.

Well, the most obvious current trend is British DD pilots trying to get spotting components of the RN Arc and rushing the cap to die in glorious abandon...and around 90 seconds of game time there's very few left - with 5 DDs per side at peak time, that's a big chunk to lose so quickly. I have noticed a spike in CV players mind you... confirmation bias from here on in though.
-
Raptor Rescue "Failed". We completed Raptor Rescue "successfully" except that the Ranger CV was stuck sailing in circles until the timer ran out - so we went from a 5 star win to a zero star fail. If you look at the mini-map you can see the CV sailing in circles miles from the endpoint - but every other ship is at the end.
