Aircraft Carriers: How Best to Tune Them? - Discussion Thread
Captain_Newman replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
This is my prediction as well. At this point outright deleting the entire class would be a much safer and healthier move for the game in the long run. Something they may be forced to do anyway when people who just want to play the other 3 classes start leaving in droves, as all they want is a normal, non CV game, and not be harrased by 3 CV's every game. -
I know karma doesn't affect much, other than the amount of compliments / reports you can dish out each day, but I still find it somewhat annoying when you get reported by a salty enemy because you dared kill them in a pvp game. My suggestion is simple: disable the option of reporting an enemy player if he scored at the top of the scoreboard. These kinds of reports are pretty much all just made by immature kids screaming "aimbot" because they don't want to admit to themselves they've been outplayed, anyway. (to be honest, reporting someone for "poor gameplay" is a ridiculous option to begin with - if wg banned all the bad players they can close their company and declare bankruptcy right now, it's clearly just an "I'm not happy" button for salty kids to push - ideally reports should be exclusively for chat violations or suspicions of using hacks, which can then be checked on by wg and appropriate action can be taken).

Developer Diaries: Update 0.7.12 - Discussion Thread

Slightly disappointed about still no word on Alaska, but looks interesting otherwise. -
Salty kids reporting for no reason
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
That's the adult response. Welcome to the 1% :) (at least, it feels that way sometimes) -
I'm in agreement, two BF containers after all that seems like a bit of a letdown. I'm grateful to Mr. Conway for the help and taking the time to look into this, but I'm not sure these lackluster compensations are the best strategy a company can have. I hope, at least, we never see that bug happen again, that week was rough given the average team quality these days (just finding players with over 50% wr in their current ship is somewhat rare these days, so you need the carry potential of a division just to be able to have fun).

Salty kids reporting for no reason
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
Like, I understand some of the responses - it's not exactly a huge issue, and I'm not claiming it is, merely a mild annoyance. Personally I'd prefer it if salty, ragy kids just smashed their keyboards in the comfort of their parent's homes, rather than reporting people who outplayed them, but that's just me :) Again, not a big issue either way. Just a thought. -
There's been some time since the server reset and we were released from our phantom division, but we still wasted about a week's premium time not being able to div. There was some word on compensation for this issue, so far nothing's happened though. I do understand that this can take some time, but I did want to check on this - thanks in advance, @MrConway

Black Friday in World of Warships: Huge Discounts! - Discussion Thread
Captain_Newman replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Yes, the whole "must have both ships to be able to get doubloons" thing feels incredibly greedy. I get that it's a bit of a compensation for players who already had the original ships, but they could have handled this in better ways. For example, if you own atago and drop atago b, you receive doubloon value for atago b and the black permacamo option on your regular atago. Or allow owners of both to sell one for doubloons. From the perspective of someone who didn't have any of the original ships, things start looking annoying. You have a doubloon mission that doesn't expire dangled in front of you, but to complete it you would have to buy a ship that costs more than the value of doubloons on offer, and you'd end up owning two identical ships for no good reason. Now multiply this annoyance by 4 if you dropped all the ships, and you start to see how poorly thought out this was. -
I can confirm the server reset got us out of that division we were stuck in. It's been a rough week, and I'm glad it's over - I really hope I won't encounter this bug again. Now all that's left is see what kind of compensation goodies Mr. Conway was kindly talking about :)
-
Server reset is tomorrow morning, though, and I'm expecting it to fix it. If it doesn't I'll
-
Much appreciated! I'm one of the guys stuck, Woute (the division leader) should be messaging you with in game names now. Thanks in advance.
-
I mean, I really hope they have an actual fix and it isn't just "servers will reset in a week, problem will go away for you then, let's hope you don't get it again". However.. it's been around as long as the game, they haven't fixed it, and just as I get it and complain to support, they say they have a patch ready next week? That's quite a coincidence. But let's hope it's actually getting fixed.
-
They probably haven't bothered to develop ways to fix it short of restarting a server, so they have their support waste our time with "suggestions" that can't work above until we just get tired and wait it out till the next server restart. It's completely unacceptable that this issue that's been going on for years, and prevents people from teaming up in a team based pvp game, doesn't have some kind of a failsafe or workaround. The game just happily ignores the fact I've been in the same division and battle for 72 hours, what could be wrong. Meanwhile the game is completely unplayable solo thanks to the glue eaters wg mm provides me with. 4 min in, half my team dead. "MM is fine, doing anything about it would make q times longer". No it wouldn't. Not if you just divide players more evenly from the same pool. 5 times in a row enemy gets decent dd's while I get all red stat ones that instantly die, and ofc the garbage Midway that doesn't know what the alt key does always finds it's way on my team vs a hurrican league, unicum one. So now I can deal with all this solo while WG does nothing. Great.
-
I don't really see how that would help... and we can't even get games together, anyway. See, the game just reports us as being in division so we can't actually div up with anyone - but we're not actually in a division, and we can only each play solo (short of trying to sync drop, ofc). Worst part is, the glue eaters are out there in force and the game is pretty much unplayable without being able to div.
-
Good morning WG! How are you on this beautiful day? If you're wondering how I'm doing, the answer is.. ..still stuck in that ****ing division.
-
I'm one of the guys stuck in the division with OP, just waiting for their tech support to answer my ticket and hoping that they can fix this issue nowadays. I will, however, say that them being unable to fix it / pretending like it's not on their end isn't really acceptable, particularly when I've been able to find people making threads about this issue from 2 years ago. "Nothing we can do, wait for next server reset" is not an acceptable answer, especially in a game that has clan battle seasons - what if this happens during a season? 3 members unable to participate can really hurt a clan's ability to compete. Would it be feasible to add some kind of a fail safe against this? Perhaps a system where divisions are automatically dissolved after not being in a battle for say, an hour? And then make a hard cap of a division always dissolving after 12 hours no matter what? Another possiblity, allow us to hop between divisions without leaving the original one first - if joining another division automatically dissolved the current one, it might be a workaround.

Everything You Need to Know About the Royal Navy Destroyers Collection - Discussion Thread
Captain_Newman replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
In the american cruisers collection we were able to unlock both alternate camo schemes as well as double flag. I wonder why WG went with double flag only, a feature I doubt many people care that much about. Unless they're keeping that for the eventual release of the RN CV line... -
cv rework CV Rework Beta Test - Feedback thread
Captain_Newman replied to Crysantos's topic in General Discussion
I agree that the test period was too short, having it run for at least 10 days would give us time to test this properly - this new type of gameplay will take some time to get used to, and you can't properly judge something before you master it. Having said that, my initial impressions; - I was at first skeptical of infinite planes + multiple drops per squad, but I see why you did it; the current system has your planes extremely vulnerable to all sorts of AA, and successfully dropping something often results in a squad either being completely destroyed or reduced to 1-2 planes. I do, however, wonder if toning down the AA but making the planes finite wouldn't be better - it would reward skill, as those players that manage to hold on to their planes can continue to fight effectively until the end of the match. A compromise might be that you get a finite amount of your best planes, and when they're spent all you get are lower tiered ones? Just thinking out loud here, but I'm not a fan of this constant cooldown spammy stuff. As a result, I didn't find this new gameplay to be that much fun, to be honest - the AA certainly seemed to be dialed up to 11. - Using the fighters as a consumable was awkward at best, and really not intuitive. An idea I had regarding this was to turn this fighters as a consumable concept around so that instead of controlling your bombers, you control your fighters by default - they are used to scout and fight other planes (mechanics such as strafing could even be kept, maybe via consumable or an additional key command). Your consumables would then consist of summoning up different types of bomber squads, which you could either order to drop a target (equal to current autodrops) or take temporary manual control and perform a drop yourself (current manual drop). For example, when you spot a target with your fighters, you lock a target and select, for example, torpedo bombers. Torpedo bombers immediately take off from the CV and begin flying toward the target. You can select an angle of drop, much like current autodrops, or, when they're in range, take direct control and attempt to drop manually. In this way, the focus is more on scouting and map control rather than dropping, without actually losing the ability to attack. - We really need a way to control the carrier while controlling the fighter squadron - at least let us set autopilot waypoints on the map without actually returning to the ship. Manual control can still be only possible when not flying planes, that part is fine. Overall, I'd say you're probably on the right track if your intention was to reduce the amount of influence and carry potential a CV has in a match, but this concept needs a lot of polish if it's to be fun. I'm also not yet sold on multiple CV's per match, either, but that sort of thing can be better evaluated when the gameplay is further developed and polished. -
You are getting all the rewards again for free and are complaining? You will get the final premium pumpkin with a bit of a delay, but in return you get -all- of the rewards you already collected, again, for free. And this isn't me guessing, it's confirmed by WG. So essentially instead of getting just one more premium pumpkin, you're getting 6 standard pumpkins, all the additional rewards, and then the premium pumpkin at the end. You can fault WG for many things but the way they're addressing this issue is more than fair.
-
That's by design, you only get a narrow spread at periscope depth. It's how subs work in wows. As for people who had their daily shipments reset and are complaining - please learn to think, you are essentially getting all the rewards you already collected again for free, and you will get that premium pumpkin at the end as well. Having that premium pumpkin delayed a bit is a fair deal when you get almost the entire daily shipments tree twice in return, so please stop complaining about this; yes, wg made a mistake here and is being more than fair in fixing it.

Ranked Sprint: Season 2 - Discussion Thread
Captain_Newman replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Those are definitely words. -
Now you're doing the same thing wargaming does, you assume I'm saying something I'm not than giving me an argument against that. I already wrote I don't want full stat based MM, just a more even split from the players currently in q. 24 players, 4 terrible dd's, 4 good ones, how about you split them evenly? I'm not asking for the mm to only give me good players, I know that's unrealistic, and I know that only grouping up people with similar stats would make the mm take longer.

When you're t8 in a t10 match, you still have options. You may need to adapt your play style and play a little more carefully, especially early game. In bb's ans cruisers, let your t10 temmates commit to something before you do. In a dd I frankly don't care that much about being uptiered, dd's handle this fairly well. It's mostly the cruisers that will need to be most careful, and hope they're not an Atlanta on Tears of the Desert in a t9 match :)

Imo with it's monster dpm it needs that magic tank removed. Enemy worcester spamming an alsace from a smoke screen, gets radared. Alsace fires a perfect waterline salvo at full broadside at a stationary worcester 10 km away, gets mostly overpens, maybe 1 normal pen, no cits, and takes away some 8k health. However by the time the Alsace reloads the Worcester is back behind an island where it can't get hit spamming it again. It's a bit silly how much it gets overpenned right now, I think some adjustments to it's citadel height might be needed. Then again all ships that are very new get the magical tanking rng lately that gets removed when they've been out for a while so I guess it's just a matter of time before we start seeing more cits on them.
