Are you having fun, WG? Are you laughing about us now?

I wouldn't be. Like I said, just a coping mechanism.

Are you having fun, WG? Are you laughing about us now?

One of my coping mechanisms is this: if someone plays particularly bad, demonstrating incredibly bad decision making, and then further demonstrates their ineptitude and lack of understanding by throwing badly worded insults in the chat, I just imagine they're, like, 8 years old, and their parents didn't notice they are on the computer past their bed time. Because thinking people over 20 behaving like that is just too depressing :)

Are you having fun, WG? Are you laughing about us now?

All of this is true. With a few notable exceptions, most of my random - assigned team mates were terrible. They go off alone after being asked not to, some get killed by bots, others yolo into a full enemy team and die, some decide they'll go sail around the map and don't seem to care when you explain to them that 5 min before battle end the shielded khaba spam begins and they should probably extract before then, etc. No, why listen when he can try to get 100 more filth then die on the way back.. If none of my clan mates are available I just take a dd, fill it up as fast as I can and go for the portal - unless the team mates demonstrate they know what they're doing (which almost never happens). I mean, they'll just die anyway, may as well get something out of it. But with clan mates, 2200-2700 games are common, depending on team comp. Honestly, the average random team mate in this mode seems worse than the average random assigned team mate in randoms. Probably just due to different mechanics and people not understanding them (I mean, if they still don't understand basic stuff like angling or ammo choice after 4 years, it's hardly surprising...)

Italian cruisers are intentionally that bad?

So far, my general impression of Italian cruisers: getting any significant performance out of them is definitely possible, but it's so much work I feel physically tired after playing them. Or in short, I don't find them particularly fun. Mind you, I've played genova, montecauliflower, trento and zara - and I have a small amount of games in each, so.. dunno. I don't feel particularly motivated to grind this line - I probably will in time, atm I'd rather play other stuff.

Are you having fun, WG? Are you laughing about us now?

Personally, I'm fine with this game mode, not sure why people are complaining so hard. As with anything in wows, it's most fun when you do it in a 3 man division on voice comms. It has shown a few things about the player base, albeit things we already knew; most aren't too bright, competent, or trustworthy. People asking for truce and only farming bots at the start, then those same people opening up on you is pretty much normal. I go by the rule of, if there is a truce, I won't fire first, but I will position as if they are going to attack. Seems to work fine most of the time. Honestly, I'm ok with all of this. Having an enemy team break the truce, then wiping them all out and taking their stuff can feel quite rewarding. Quick example of some from a yesterday's game: my 3 man clan div made a truce with another team that asked for peace. We weren't completely thrilled by it, as we prefer to farm Rasputin on our own, but hey, they didn't try to sneak attack us, they turned secondaries off, were careful not to ram, so, we won't be a-holes. In comes the 3rd team. Geniuses in a 3-man Rust Nightfall (basically, Hindenburg, and honestly kind of a weak ship in this game mode). They start spamming my crocosaur. With AP. For almost no damage. Oh dear, oh dear. Div mate tells them in all chat "I wouldn't do that if I were you". They continue firing while sitting almost completely still, full broadside. I target one of them and 1-salvo kill him from full health. Karma, she's a b**ch, but she is fair. I type "we did warn you". The guy I murdered swears back at me - I thank him for the salt, it's always a nice bonus when that spices up my dev strikes on the enemy. My div mate in a scorpioid breaks off, kills the rest of them, and fills up on all their filth, while the rest of us kill Rasputin and fill up. Two teams that worked together leave with full holds, one potato team all got exactly what they deserved. Seriously.. how is this not fun? It's the closest you can get to piracy in this game... What I don't like is the random nature of the rewards. All my clan mates got their t10 permacamo from this event, ranging from it being in the first bundle, to like bundle 11 or 12. I'm on bundle 20 right now, and still no camo. I feel like some of them are still playing this mode more as a favor to me rather then because they want to - after a bunch of games you do want to go back to your normal ships. But I still feel the event is fine, just wish WG wouldn't be so obsessed with having RNG literally everywhere.. Just have a requirement of this much filth for a t8 camo, that much for t9, and that much for t10. Then it's fair and transparent, this "you will have to do 100 games and your friends get it in 10" is just bs. Enough RNG already, either run a game dev company or a casino, stop trying to do both at the same time.

    New player needs advice

The Hipper isn't great. Don't get me wrong, she's not as terrible as some make her out to be, but time (read: power creep) has not been kind to this ship, or her higher tier counterparts (Hindenburg has fallen out of the meta pretty hard). One of the major drawbacks is the very low dpm - your reload times are extremely long - and this is a ship that will regularly face ships like Smolensk, Harugumo, Friesland, Des Moines, Worcester, etc, all of which can melt a careless Hipper in no time if it gets caught out. German cruiser HE isn't that great - while it has improved pen (almost built-in IFHE), the alpha and fire chance leave a lot to be desired. The AP is good, as long as someone gives you flat broadside - otherwise, german AP autobounce angles are quite bad. Your torps, like all german cruisers with the exception of the Graf Spee, only have 6km range - and just having these tends to get newbies killed a lot; if I had a nickel for every time I saw a german cruiser player turn broadside in order to torp a bow on BB (who is often out of torp range still), only to get instantly blapped, well, I'd have a lot of nickels. Mind you, this behavior isn't limited to german cruiser players, a lot of bad players do this - I see bad BB players that happen to have torpedoes use the terrible "turn flat broadside to a bow on target to torp it" brawling tactic all the time, I guess they never connected that behavior to getting blapped to the next map. Digression aside, Hipper is playable as long as you understand how to do it, she has some tank, torps and hydro, but she's not a great ship by any stretch of the imagination. Top tier, she can perform, in T10 you will struggle hard. If you want to go for a first t10 cruiser, I would suggest a Zao instead: she's quite old by now, but has endured the power creep really well, and she will teach you a lot about how to play a cruiser. Still one of the best kiting cruisers in the game, with great stealth, excellent HE, punishing AP, and great torps. I would recommend IJN cruisers over german ones to new players any day of the week. As for fire prevention, it does two things. One, it increases your built - in resistance to being set on fire (so less shells that hit you will cause fires overall), and two, it limits the amount of fires your ships can be set on at the same time to 3 - otherwise you could have 4 fires burning at once.

Luckily the div mate was able to play mid as the c flank retreated to b after being abandoned by their t-61..

T-61 is the only dd on his flank, with me and a div mate spawning on the other side of the map. We notice he's abandoning his flank, thus leaving the bb's and cruisers which were going for this flank alone without spotting or screening. We ask him to return to that flank and explain why that is needed. His response: "No." Div mate then had to split off and sail all the way to the other flank in his dd, while I secured ours. T-61 died first by eating torps. Div mate and I managed to help the team win, anyway. Luckily we were both dd's. Now... this guy had 800-ish battles, so normally he'd get a pass for potatoing. However, he flat out refused to be useful when we politely explained what we needed him to do, and I find that less excusable. We were all new at some point, but at least I knew I was new and bad and tried to listen to more experienced players to learn the ropes. This guy thought he knew better than people that literally have 9k battles more than he does, not to mention the difference in stats. And then dies to torps in a hydro dd without ever having run hydro. I just don't understand people who think they know better when almost every battle they play should tell them otherwise.

Or, you could stop talking about things you don't understand? You're suggesting a game developer runs entirely without marketing and only uses it's resources to develop software? Welcome to planet Earth, where things just don't work that way. You must come from a lovely planet, I must visit some day... Radar through islands - I'm only telling you what WG told us based on their testing. I would say, though, that testing results are a much better argument than opinions based on.. well, nothing really. But that's just me. WG told us testing results, you're putting your assumptions above that without having seen this work. Also, radar ships aren't op nor does radar make them so. And I say this as someone who really likes to play dd's. Try playing DM or radar mino effectively. Or a Moskva. Or even Stalingrad. They are strong in the right hands, but op? No. Only potato dd players think that because it's easier to whine about radar than to learn to play against them. As for the rest, yet again you're using historical realism arguments to discuss balance in an arcade pvp game, which renders all your points moot almost before you made them. Yes, realistically ships had limited ammo, dd's couldn't even reload torps, actual torp speeds were much lower (even italian 51 knotters would be really fast for the era), radar wasn't a consumable that had run time and cooldown but could run all the time, hydroacoustic search was a passive system that ran continously as well, active sonar search (ASDIC on RN ships) was something else entirely, etc etc. Realistically Smolensk should have radar and the Giulio Cesare had torpedoes. Clearly this fact doesn't mean these should be added to the already op in game ships, nor is historical accuracy a good argument to discuss balancing decisions in an arcade pvp game which is NOT a simulator. Cold Waters, Silent Hunter, etc? Sure. Not here.

You get over that, had that at first too. As long as you understand what your role is, have map awarness, and do your best to help your team win, there is no need to feel pressure. Especially not when your bb's are busy firing HE at broadside cruisers while reversing into the 10 line...
  12. Captain_Newman

    Noob actions

Ignore them. Some people obviously don't have awareness and don't understand how certain ships play. This is the type of player that will report you for not brawling enemy bb's in an Azuma, or for not smoking them up in your french DD. Their opinions and suggestions aren't worth the time it takes to read them.

I feel you, I too have ships that seem to have cursed matchmaking. Example - did great in akatsuki, then had a terrible time in kagero (regardless of me having like 2 caps, 3 kills, 2 of which dd's, yes I use guns on IJN DD's, 150 + k games, my teams would still collapse almost every time). My DM seems to have that curse, too. As for Khaba, man, what is it about being reported in it... one of the recent games I had in it had a shima panic smoke and torp drop when I started shooting it. I dodged his torps, and went unspotted as the shima was the one spotting me. He started shooting at a bb, so I used my new found stealth to get close and torp his smoke. He ate two torps and died, then reported me, complaining in the chat that khaba is op (?!) I mean, if you're a shima that gets torped by a khaba you really shouldn't complain. Ever again. About anything. For the rest of your life.

All my stats on the Daring improved significantly when I specced into IFHE. Without it, dd's smart enough to angle will hardly take any damage, and you won't be able to use he on bb superstructures, either - so if you want to set a few fires first then go ap, you will lose valuable time doing it and your smokes are short. I tried - wanted to make it work without IFHE, because those 4 points could then be spent on RPF - but having tried both I'm firmly in the IFHE Daring camp now.

Hydro equipped dd's all being dead first in the first 3-4 min - by eating torps. Happens regularly. DD players not understanding how spotting works, smoking up the moment they enter the cap without having been spotted at all, blinding their own team with that smoke, then sitting in it broadside and eating obvious torps (obligatory "noob team no support" in chat right after, ofc) Entire match depends on a CV finding and killing that low hp dd. You ask him to stop using rocket planes on that FdG and go for the DD. He then takes torp or ap bombers out to go for the DD. Also common. Had a 63 plane kill game the other day in a Kidd. Enemy Shokaku didn't get the hint when he lost his first squadron, I guess... Also had a Lazo trying to AP my Kidd and pretty much everything else (angled bb's included) for the entire game - not understanding ammo types and which one to use is incredibly common. You know that feeling of "oh crap, I had to turn to dodge those torps in my cruiser and now I'm full broadside to a Kremlin", only to have a sigh of relief when he fires he at you? Yea. Common. Way more common to have the he spamming bb on your team... the type that nevet switches to ap..

Yet you make a rather big - and rather wrong - assumption that company work hours are a homogenous resource, where every employee has an identical skill set and spending those hours on a video takes away from something else. As someone who actually did artwork for game companies, trust me when I say you wouldn't want a 3d artist making bug fixes, or your video guy making balancing decisions... this is why we have this mysterious concept called "departments". Not to mention companies will often outsource stuff like video production to another company, as well.. in any case, the net result of wg not doing videos would not be more ships or maps, it would just not give you videos anymore. Also, are you really complaining about wg being slow with ship implementation? Let's see, in the last half a year they added 3 new lines and a boatload of new fxp, coal, and steel ships.. if anything, it's going into hyperproduction... As for radar being unrealistic, 2 points. 1) This is an arcade game, not a simulation. Please don't use realism as an argument for balancing something, this is a game where ships get stopped and slide by invisible map edges, pressing "R" immediately stops all fires and floods, ramming islands or team mates does no damage when in actuality it would put the ship out of the fight if not outright sink it, etc. This is just not a realistic sim, and it was never intended to be. 2) WG tested the radar not seeing through islands and concluded it makes radar almost entirely worthless because most caps in this game contain enough islands that using radar meant either not detecting anything, or the radar ship suiciding into the cap in order to spot a DD (try sailing your DM or radar mino into a cap early game, see how you fare when yamas, kremlins and whatnot take notice).

    Combat Missions of Update 0.8.8

In what universe do you live in where people don't play them? Is there room? How do I get there? Most of my matches have CV's, and my french dd's in particular seem to be CV magnets to the point where I can't even remember the last time I had a non CV match in one. I really hate them and what they do to the gameplay. I find sticking to big AA ships the whole game boring. WG actually encouraging people to play this cancer when they should be removing the class outright is pretty short sighted to say the least. I can't even understand why people find their boring arcade style play fun, I can't do 2 in a row without falling asleep... they remove tactics and fun, especially if you god forbid like to dd..

    Submarines: Beta Sign-up and Q&A

Everyone always compares subs to CV's, but I think it's not a great comparison. CV only ever risks it's planes most of the time - the ship itself is safe. A sub will be an extremely fragile glass cannon where every mistake will result either with massive damage or death. It's not exactly the same as "oh no I lost all my torp bombers and rocket planes, I'll just go harras them with dive bombers while they auto replenish". In a way, they will take the DD's role of all of them being dead in the first 2 min when the matchmaker gives you a bunch of 40-something percenters

    CV Rework Discussion

Ok, seriously, almost every game in the t6-8 bracket is double CV now. Wargaming, I don't know why you think this is ok, but if you actually try to play a DD in these matches and still think it's ok, you're either on some really strong medication - or you should be on it.

    Armada: HMS Duke of York

Radar? Uhh.. do you really think adding radar to the DoY is a good idea? It doesn't matter that it had it irl. Giulio Cesare had torps. Almost all ww2 era ships had radar, come to think of it. Do you want to start adding it to literally everything? This isn't a historically accurate sim, it's a team based multiplayer arcade game; balance should always take priority over "muh historical accuracy". Having said that, the DoY dpm is fairly low and I preferred the KGV for this reason. The trouble is, wargaming needed a way to differentiate the DoY from the KGV; their initial idea was to not give it heals at all, but have the other stats buffed. This would have made it an interesting ship, however with a very high skill floor. Everyone and their grandmother cried about this, so WG gave it heals back, and decided to differentiate it from the KGV by the addition of hydro. As a result, they felt the need to reduce the reload time to keep it balanced with the KGV, and prevent it from being straight up better. Sadly, the result is a pretty meh ship, and "fixing" it usually involves making it an almost identical KGV clone.

    Jean Bart build

I guess you can if those captains are for Jutland or Daring - Belfast needs IFHE. Which means you can't really put your Mino captain on her and expect good damage numbers.

    Got a free Kaga carrier

Yubari is excellent, but has a high skill floor which can be problematic for less experienced players (this is also a bit counter intuitive since it's a t4). In the right hands it absolutely wrecks the enemy teams. It's completely inability to tank can make it punishing to play - knowing how to make good use of island cover and friendly smokes, as well as how to kite effectively is key to playing her well. Meanwhile you get good maneuverability, fairly solid guns, good torps and excellent AA for it's tier.
