Haven't seen it crap out this badly in at least a year.. though I did have a break during the summer. -
Cant access Premium store or Armoury in port?!
Captain_Newman replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
Can people stop blaming WG for "f-ing up" and asking for "patches" or doing silly things like reinstalling? It's obviously server issues, no reinstall can help there. In any online game, servers do go wonky from time to time. It actually happens quite rarely with wows, so kindly stop your uninformed complain fest and just have some patience, it'll be fixed. This whole thing kind of smells like DDoS to me, but I could be wrong. In any event, b***ing about it won't make them fix it any faster. -
Fen Yang - and WG that has no clue what to do with it

Just once? Asashio players who try to torp DD’s and cruisers aren’t the exception, they’re the norm. That’s been my observation, anyway. -

It should work for everyone, then. -

Is one of those accounts in another region? (NA, CIS, SEA, etc) -
I love how WG replaced accurate man secs with “the ability to fire at multiple targets”. Thanks, WG, that totally hasn’t been possible so far by simply not speccing into manual secondaries. This rework is all about the freedom to make choices (that WG allows you to make). Actually glad I decided against spending my coal on Pommern and Lutjens.. I had a feeling those would get nerfed in the skill rework.

Your clan should really start using something like Discord... maintaining any community using only in-game chat? Yikes.

Exit game, kill the steam client (use task manager to make sure it’s not running), re-run everything. Alternatively just do the IT Crowd thing and reboot then run it again.

Fen Yang - and WG that has no clue what to do with it
Captain_Newman replied to eliastion's topic in General Discussion
Thank you, reading that last sentence has indeed lowered my IQ quite effectively. It felt as if millions of my braincells suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. On the bright side, maybe I could get a job at WG's balancing department now that this made me "compatible"... -
Hosho torp nerf.... what about it

Hosho torp nerf.... what about it
Captain_Newman replied to strachwitz's topic in General Discussion
The biggest issue is that it completely turns off and drives away new players, or makes them try to rush through these tiers too fast because they're just a cesspool of hosho sealclubbers.. And yes, people who get their kicks from stomping newbies who have no idea what's going on should be stopped. It's a good nerf. The fact it's here doesn't suddenly make broken stuff on higher tiers like MvR fine, it's just finally one positive change in a sea of really dodgy ones. -
Hosho torp nerf.... what about it
Captain_Newman replied to strachwitz's topic in General Discussion
Those players were not the problem - they're usually the newbies that are legit grinding through Hosho to get to Ryujo and higher. The sealclubbers were the issue, and they were definitely able to land both torps per strike. -
Hosho torp nerf.... what about it
Captain_Newman replied to strachwitz's topic in General Discussion
Yup, all those wonderful people that seal clubbed on new players, putting in thousands of battles in Hosho specifically (while usually being pretty bad in anything at higher tiers) will now have to find something else to do. My heart bleeds for them, let me tell you...- 55 replies

wait what ? ships removed and put behind paywall!!!
Captain_Newman replied to albin322's topic in General Discussion
The option to get them for doubloons is being added in 0.9.12. They become completely unavailable to obtain in 0.10.1. In the interim you will be able to obtain them for doubloons as well as currencies they have been available for until now. This shouldn't be complicated, it's all explained if you read it carefully. -
Because it was probably one of the small gifts awarded either by the advent calender or the combat missions that gave small crates that were given out via codes recently. Clearly the features and rewards mentioned in an article about 0.9.12 won't become available before 0.9.12 actually goes live, that's how it's worked in every update since the game went live. BTW does anyone else get this issue when trying to view the video?

Cpt Skill rework is a big fat cruiser nerf on top of everything else

Who could predict that WG reworking things would make things worse, right? -
Cpt Skill rework is a big fat cruiser nerf on top of everything else
Captain_Newman replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, I'm seeing the skill rework as a potentially game-ending event (for me personally). I'm just enjoying the game, such as it is, until it hits. When it does, I plan to reset / demount everything (which will take forever in itself), then probably take another extended leave of absence. I say probably because it may happen that the rework won't be as disastrous as I think it will, in which case I'd probably keep playing... But I doubt it. Well, it was quite a ride. Met some pretty cool people in the clans I've been so far, as well as here. Had some fun. If it so happens that it's still possible for me to have fun after the rework, great. If not, well, no game lasts forever. This will be neither the first nor last game I leave, either forever or just long enough for the worst issues to get fixed. No drama, just laughter. At WG's balancing department mostly (I mean some of their decisions seriously make me wonder if they're trolling). -
Give Smolensk a range boost in 0.10.0 plz
Captain_Newman replied to StarbuckTheThird's topic in General Discussion
Partly because the ship is broken as it is, and to get that range you had to pay for it with 4 skill points. Having the extra range "baked in" thereby gives you max range while leaving you with 4 extra skill points, which is actually a pretty huge buff to a ship that is already overpowered and one of the best damage dealers in the game. I play her with 16.something range and don't seem to have issues surviving, dealing damage, or winning in it. (Well, tbh I play her very rarely these days, as I don't get the satisfaction I would from any other ship after a high damage game - not really that special if you do it in a Smol, but that's besides the point). At over 19km range those shells are suborbital, they take forever to reach their target and as such, the only thing you can reliably hit is a stationary battleship, anyway - by playing at this range, you restrict your target selection to almost nothing, which reduces your influence on any positive outcome of the match to practically zero. A well positioned Smolensk can deny caps, stop enemy flanks from pushing (or heavily punish it), make sure low hp ships don't get the chance to disengage and heal, dislodge stationary radar cruisers, etc. You won't be doing any of that at 19km... The only thing you can accomplish at that range is annoy someone until his team wins the match anyway. The solution isn't to buff an already broken ship, the solution is that OP learns how to properly position in a cruiser. I suggest t6 as a good place to learn, trying to learn the basics at t10 can be a bit brutal for both yourself and your teams. -
World of Warships balancing the CV rework proposal:
Captain_Newman replied to CaptainObese's topic in General Discussion
Here's what I'd like to see happen with CV fighters: Yes, let players control them directly. This would make CV play less one-dimensional in that it would give the CV player something else to do other than just drop surface ships all game. Even the old strafing mechanic could see a comeback, this time from a third person perspective. This would definitely improve the interaction between the CV and their own team, as well as between opposing CV's. Now, they can still work like the fighter consumable in that you call them while controlling another squadron of rocket, dive bomber, or torpedo planes, and you get temporary control of them for a fixed amount of time / until the timer runs out / you switch back to the original squadron with the F key. Maybe? I'm not going to sit here and claim that it would surely work, but I think it might be interesting and improve things if done well - would definitely need to be tested extensively before committing to such a change. However, it would make CV play more complex, which is exactly the opposite direction from what WG has been doing with them since the rework was first introduced. And since the last changes they did to the fighter consumable was to make it literally worthless for anything other than spotting, something tells me that a) using fighters mostly for spotting is exactly what WG had in mind, and b) making fighters a more useful and actually playable tool is the last thing on WG's mind.- 81 replies

Unsurprisingly the several ships I have a really high WR on after a statistically significant enough number of battles are mostly DD's, which tend to be my go-to class when I need to break a defeat streak (best way to make sure at least one DD on my team won't die instantly).
