Which premium ship would fit my playstyle?

Ah, fair enough. Scharnhorst is a good pick then. -
Which premium ship would fit my playstyle?
Captain_Newman replied to Purnylla's topic in General Discussion
You have 70 battles and your highest tier ship is t6, so I would advise against getting any premium ships at this point. Coupons come and go, trust me this isn't the last one you will get... coupons give people incentives to spend, so WG hands them out quite often. The issue with buying premiums with that low amount of battles is that lower tier premiums are rarely worth it; you are buying ships that will have far reduced rewards compared to high tier prems, AND you are getting ships that will see double CV's quite a lot as well. This all means that they are likely to become port queens as you advance up the tiers. That leaves you with the option to go for a high tier prem (like t8), which is a common potato mistake I would advise you to avoid. I have never, ever seen a player who's on t5-6 on his tech tree lines perform well, or have any sort of fun in a high tier premium ship - high tier gameplay is different, there are new mechanics to think of, the stuff you should have learned on lower tiers becomes basic knowledge without which you just die, enemy ships become increasingly more powerful, etc. All that happens is that people who do this drag their teams down, have terrible winrates, scores and average damage, their teams rage at them, and they actually paid for the "privilege". Another point is that, well, regardless of what you might think, with 70 battles there aren't ships that fit your play style, because you don't have one yet. 70 battles is barely enough to have decent experience on one ship, let alone a class / nation. Save your money for now, mate. If you're still playing after 1000 battles, revisit the topic - getting a premium ship now will almost certainly be a waste of money. Trust me on that. I hope you take this as it was meant - well intended advice, there is no crime or shame in being new. -
Puerto Rico Directives Rewards vs Effort slashed compared with previous events
Captain_Newman replied to Gnirf's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I know. I've said as much on other threads. Was just talking about the point where they just became comical to me - the Mikasa rental code is where I burst out into laughter.- 9 replies

Puerto Rico Directives Rewards vs Effort slashed compared with previous events
Captain_Newman replied to Gnirf's topic in General Discussion
I mean.. at the risk of sounding entitled, because we aren't exactly OWED free stuff.. but you know when I actually started laughing? When they gave us that Mikasa code. After all the dumpster fires, the bait and switch bs, the lies, the crappy t10 ship rewards (containers that don't drop anything good unless you are incredibly lucky, compared to guaranteed 100/200 steel per ship in 2018), the incredible greed they've manifested.. I see that Mikasa code and go "ok, free ship, it's just t2 and will be a port queen, but hey, it's a historical ship, it's something, nice". Rental. Seriously, couldn't even part with a t2 premium for free on Christmas. Again, we're not owed it, I just found it hilarious how full scrooge they went this year.. I mean, it's a t2, why even bother making it a rental- 9 replies

[PSA] An apology for poor event presentation and a bit of spreadsheet
Captain_Newman replied to Sehales's topic in News & Announcements
Pretty much exactly how I see it. Well said. -
Please don't buy the Puerto Rico
Captain_Newman replied to ________________Morrison's topic in General Discussion
The issue isn't whether it's optional or not. The entire game is optional, that's not the point. What is the issue is the bait and switch scheme of intentionally misleading intial articles that had people spend doubloons on boosters, only to realize that they still won't get it unless they are either prepared to grind 12h a day using premium time and enormous stacks of the rarest camos and flags, and better hope they get a 100% WR with like 2k+ basexp per game, OR "simply" pay like 200€ more so they don't see their investment so far go to waste. I'm not a legal expert so I'm not sure if there's grounds for legal action here or not, but there are people qualified to answer that question. -
Thank you WG for Christmas events
Captain_Newman replied to RigorMortis76's topic in General Discussion
Yes, thank you WG for making a bait and switch event designed to trick people into thinking they can get the PR easily if they buy a prem booster or two, only to realize they have to shell out in total of 200€ to get it or see their money go to waste. Ignore the snowflakes that complain. Nothing says "Christmas" like a nice ponzi scheme. Only a troll or someone incredibly, impressively oblivious could make a thread like this. OP, you keep being a good little fanboy. This is them in the mean time. -
Puerto Rico, what would happen if.....
Captain_Newman replied to Telendir's topic in General Discussion
Realistically, the only way this would be dangerous to WG is if they had actual competition that has less shady business practices. As there is none, really, they can just keep laughing all the way to the bank. As it is, the only way they might consider reigning their scammy business practices in a bit is if their profits go down as a result of people not buying lootboxes out of protest. X for doubt on that actually happening, but hey, feel free to pleasantly surprise me, community. -
How much will Puerto Rico cost you?
Captain_Newman replied to The_Shungite_Wizard's topic in General Discussion
How much will the PR cost me? Well gee, let me do the math... ..carry the two.. ..multiply by zero.. according to my calculations, it'll cost me the exact same amount WG will get from me this christmas. Ain't that a coincidence. -
Please don't buy the Puerto Rico
Captain_Newman replied to ________________Morrison's topic in General Discussion
I have, quoting you was just a convenient way to get my 5 cents in, it was really meant for WG, I have no issues with anything you said on this thread, mate -
Please don't buy the Puerto Rico
Captain_Newman replied to ________________Morrison's topic in General Discussion
No, he does not. An apology is worth absolutely nothing if they don't fix it. People that thought will be able to get the PR with a booster or two, so they bought them, and now realized they can't grind 12h a day are still s**t out of luck, and WG is still laughing all the way to the bank. There is no talk of refunds. No talk of compensation. No talk of easing up on the insane directives. None of that. What are these people supposed to do? Print out that apology and take it to the bank, I'm sure they'll monetize it? It is so clearly an apology that isn't meant sincerely, coming from a man who was very recently venting at the community in a profoundly unprofessional way on reddit, and now comes around to a half-a**ed apology that isn't backed up by any kind of an action. Don't know about people at WG, I was always brought up to apologize when I do something wrong, but only when I sincerely mean it - not apologizing when you don't mean it is a matter of integrity. I guess we know how much of that WG has. But hey, I'm sure they'd privately say that money's better anyway. Luckily, I saw the directives and CC videos in time not to buy any of the boosters, and in time to make an informed decision not to go for the PR. This will be the first event of this type where I won't go for the main reward since I started playing, over 3 years ago, for two reasons: 1) buying into this obvious scam would make me feel dirty, they deserve to lose money over this, and 2) the PR is a clumsier, less accurate Alaska that won't get to utilize it's additional turret very often. If I'm going to play something battleship sized that has battleship dispersion, y'know what? I think I'd rather have battleship armor and battleship overmatch to go with it. So, I'm not concerned about missing out on the PR, because even if I grinded it, it would have just become a port queen I never touch. It's WG's blatant disrespect for the community that they try to disguise in this thin, obviously not meant apology that is just.. insulting. BTW, Mr. Spock actually wanted the PR. He has a message. -
The good, the bad and the ugly

IKR? They seem so desperate for money that it makes me thing a live aid "Save WeeGee" Bono concert might be in order.. poor things, they're totally broke.. -
The good, the bad and the ugly
Captain_Newman replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
Agreed with pretty much everything you wrote. The game as a whole can be fun, as long as you stay out of ranked and CV's aren't taking a dump on you. Looks great, I love ships, the artwork is done well. The negatives, well, they're well known, but from my perspective, here we go. - the CV rework: seriously, what a s**tshow. Won't go into details now but this was terrible. - the overproduction of high tier prem.. erm.. "reward ships", need that loophole so WG can say they didn't lie about never selling t10 premiums. - WG, as a company constantly called out for russian bias, you go ahead and introduce stuff like Smolensk and Kremlin. Seriously, are you trolling? - lootboxes everywhere, in every event. This is a game played by kids. These things promote and develop obsessive gambling behavior. Do I really need to explain how shady and unethical this is? - at this point, the game is literally full of removed premiums due to them being OP. Still possible to get once a year, ofc from a lootbox, if you drop a huge amount of money and get lucky. This is so scummy and unfair it boggles the mind. Not exclusively a 2019 issue, but it hasn't gone away and has been made worse, so.. yea. - constant power creep. Hindenburg used to be considered a really strong cruiser, for example. Have fun running into Smolensks and Stalingrads. - the constant introduction of increasingly powerful ships coupled with the ability to fail all the way to t10 has given rise to roflstomp meta; the games where one team just gets obliterated in 5 min or less with the enemy team taking little to no losses. These kinds of games aren't fun whichever side you find yourself on, and I've seen a definite increase of those in 2019. This is a really big issue. - and finally, to top it all off, the Puerto Rico event that takes a really cool concept of building your own ship (or rather, your dockyard, and then observing the ship being constructed), which is then absolutely ruined with predatory, scummy event designed to get people that haven't paid attention or done the math to invest something in this grind, then realising that what they invested isn't even close to enough, so now they have a choice of paying a lot more, or seeing their money wasted. Whoever came up with this should be ashamed of themselves. I've seen less shady business practices in the Godfather movies. A fittingly disastrous end to a year that might one day be remembered as the beginning of the end of wows. Seriously, if they keep acting in this way, I'm not even sure if they'll have a game for much longer. The PR disaster is a really good example of that; it's not that we're owed a free t10 premium, it's that the design of the event infuriates you, this is scumbaggery 101. It makes me not want to give WG any money, ever again. -
I would check out christmas sales on steam. WG doesn't deserve aunt's money atm. Also, according to CC reviews (don't own her myself), Vanguard is pretty meh, at least currently.
-
WG, release a ridiculously OP russian ship if you're under duress. We'll get the message.

Please don't buy the Puerto Rico
Captain_Newman replied to ________________Morrison's topic in General Discussion
Imho, the only fair system is that all ships are available to get for everyone at all times, and paid / rare exclusives are limited to cosmetic and/or economic only items that do not boost performance. Having OP premiums that some have and others can't get, short of spending a ton of money on lootboxes once a year and being extremely lucky, is an inherently unfair system. Paying for the actual game, expansions, premium time and cosmetics, sure. Anything else is a russian money grab. -

Are you going to grind the Puerto Rico?
Captain_Newman replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
You should've seen Flamuu when he was restreaming WG's official stream yesterday. He was laughing so hard at them as they were saying "it's totally possible to get it for free". The gloves are definitely completely off, everyone's just calling them out for their BS. -
Even CCs complain about Puerto Rico grind

Don't forget the nurse that hooks you up to an IV and monitors your vitals. Neither her work hours nor the medical supplies required come free. -
24,000 doubloons for 'premium' Puerto Rico boosters.
Captain_Newman replied to Verblonde's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. MrConway specifically said he'd like to talk to Flamuu about his math, as Flamuu said those directives are not possible to do in time. So.. Here's another way for you to make money, WG. I'd literally pay to watch that stream. -

Captain_Newman replied to ________________Morrison's topic in General Discussion
That may very well be. Let me be clear, I'm not suggesting anyone does this, I'm just guessing that this is what will happen. Like, if WG dropped a PR in my port by accident right now, I'd probably wait a few months to play it until the dust settles, because having 11 ships target me whenever I'm spotted doesn't seem like fun. -
Even CCs complain about Puerto Rico grind
Captain_Newman replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Wow, that's new. Ok, that does massively improve the situation. Even with slashing zeros it will still be a hard grind, but with the extended deadline it is doable now. Thanks for posting that. -

A new CC reviews this patch. -
He's too busy doing the "entirely possible but hard" PR grind.. Seriously, check the ticket that it wasn't closed? Has your account actually been moved? And keep contacting them until they react, this is unnaceptable.
