WG please remove AA completely from the game
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
Sonar buoys are different, I meant do pings on ships directly from the air, like you do with subs from underwater. (No, wasn't being serious). -
WG please remove AA completely from the game
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
My mistake, I thought you were referring to the Doolittle raid. Did those madlads actually somehow launch a B52 from a CV? I didn't think that was possible. Did it just fly over, or photoshop?Engine exhaust does make it look like it took off from the deck. @CastorTolagi -

Launcing a B52 from an aircraft carrier would be quite the trick. You may want to reverse your digits there https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-52_Stratofortress These were used in the Doolittle raid you're referring to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_B-25_Mitchell -

★WG why u announce all the ships but I can't buy them?☆
Captain_Newman replied to Yosha_AtaIante's topic in General Discussion
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen them make the same ship obtainable for free twice (as in, grindable event reward ship). They do return, but usually when they do it's either lootboxes or buy them directly from the store. This is why I doubt a southern dragon will be grindable, but hey, maybe I'll end up being wrong. Not sure what Baije will go for, but it'll likely be obtainable for either coal or fxp, or directly in the store (same deal as JB or Friesland, for example). -
WG please remove AA completely from the game
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
I don't see myself as particularly serious in general, nor being an offender. I also don't see anything "whiny" about the original post. The claim stands: AA literally does nothing useful atm. Since WG is determined to make CV player's lives as easy as possible (the gameplay has been dumbed down to extremes, we'll just automate half of the things other ships have to do for you so you can go farm), expecting AA buffs seems... unrealistic. In the current situation, your AA can not defend you in either high or low tier. Low tier: take a yubari out and have fun being focused by two CV's at once. If you're lucky maybe you'll have 3 plane kills by the time you're done. High tier: if enemy CV is a potato and you are in a Friesland, you might score some plane kills. Otherwise, if he wants you dead, you're dead. The other day I did an Irian / Le Fantasque div with a clan mate. Now, we might not be super unicums, but we're not exactly 40-something percenters, either. Enemy CV: unicum enterprise. My CV: glue conniseur HMS Incapable. Decided on the loading screen. My div mate stuck close to me when the CV started going for him doing his best to "just dodge". He still died pretty quickly. The CV then started going for me. A bit of rockets, then have me dodge a set of torps so he can make a turn and torp me before I can dodge the second set. Nothing you can do when he's decided to kill you. Even if I could have magically made that Irian dance like a pole dancer with a snake and dodged the torps, he'd have been back with AP bombers and it's early access to subs, anyway. Now, what is the function of AA? To protect you from air attack. It is unable to do so. If WG won't buff it, then remove it entirely. It may seem like an absurd notion, but this has increasingly been my reaction to WG's balancing decisions lately: Literally anyone and their grandmother knows AA is neutered to the point of uselesness. I see no indication of any reaction from WG. Spreadsheet must be satisfied with the current state of affairs, I guess? I mean, this is a company that thinks making defAA useless so everyone slots hydro instead is fine, and on top of that then decides to go and implement a module that bypasses torpedo stealth - I guess torpedo boats are overperforming and we all just missed a memo on it? Also, as you may notice, the original post attracted a rather large amount of reactions, so I feel like editing it would be disingenuous at this point. What's happened in this thread in general: - a problem was pointed out; - we had a bit of fun; - we also discussed the problem. If you feel that needs a lock, so be it. Sometimes, sarcasm and/or humor can be useful tools in pointing out an issue, especially when that issue has been exarcebated to extremes. Diagnosing problems is by definition constructive (though I'm not sure why all threads need to be constructive and what's so wrong about people just having fun once in a while, but I guess fun being frowned upon in a wows related forum is fairly consistent). But, fine. Buff AA across the board, reduce DD spotting from air across the board, and make defAA a viable option; it is not atm. And stop indirectly nerfing DD's with literally every decision. -
Poll: Imperial (doubloon) Bundle drop chance
Captain_Newman replied to Ocsimano18's topic in General Discussion
Exactly what I was thinking. I mean, yea, the event is typical wg shady shenanigans, but it's fairly easy to see what's going on. 1k doubloons per bundle in order to try and get a silver ship with a useless permacamo (have so many grinding camos and it's not like I'll play any of these that much after they've been grinded through). You have to expect that there's a good chance you won't drop it right at the start, but will need to roll at least 5-10 times for the first ship drop, at least most people will. So, why do people still do it? If you keep rewarding WG for doing this stuff, stop with the righteous indignation when you spend too much money on not much gain, you're the ones enabling them. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Some clan mates and myself decided to go to the training room today, to try and find a reliable hard counter to the Smolensk. We found one! You need bias to fight bias -

It would end it too quickly: remember, it's supposed to be fun for the CV, not end in like a second. -
WG please remove AA completely from the game
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
Just do to all DD's what they did to Kleber, increase spotting distance. Ez. Or, wait. Hang on. Wait just a minute here. What an epic idea I've just had! This will blow your minds... Give rocket planes an added ability.. the one developed for subs. Yes, sonar pings. Clearly sonar can't work from the air, but who cares. Call it radar pings.I mean, waiting for smoke to expire is boring, and rework ain't about boring. Just ping those pesky smoke spammers. They can smoke, but they can't hide! -

WG please remove AA completely from the game
Captain_Newman replied to Captain_Newman's topic in General Discussion
BTW before this is locked for "not being constructive", I think it's actually very constructive. See, I'm not a fan of having useless systems that do nothing. Either make them useful, or remove them entirely. Atm AA is just skill point / module bait for people tired of being farmed, not realizing it won't help them one bit. -
Of course, there are stronger and weaker CV's. It doesn't change the fact they are still bad for the game.
-
- CV's make the game unfun for everyone not playing a CV. Removing stealth flies in the face of the game's spotting and armor angling mechanics, which combined with maps that give various configurations of islands providing cover from spotting, normally allows for interesting flanking tactics. Not so when CV's are around, then it just becomes a massive derp fast where the outcome largely depends on which team got the better CV and who got more 40-something %-ers that yolo, camp edges, or give everyone broadside. Limit CV's to one per side. Make DD's harder to spot. Remove rocket planes. Do something. Fix it. - Smolensk is insane. You can't have that much dpm on a platform that only gets overpenned most of the time. If something has dpm that high coupled with smoke, it should pay for it by being extremely fragile. Fix it. - Russian bias is getting silly. Yes, people complained about Kremlin being OP. Nobody in their right mind ever thought it was because of the health of it's AA mounts. A good CV player can slingshot, anyway, so it's a completely irrelevant change. Bringing one down is still a seasonal project. Fix it. - DD's are in a bad spot. Playing them in high tiers effectively is several orders of magnitude more work than other classes. With CV's in almost every game, it can be downright miserable. This is without proposing silly modules aimed at making torp dodging easier for potato bb's with zero awareness. Stop catering to the lowest common denominator and, you guessed it.. fix it. - Low tier gameplay is infested by CV sealclubbers that chase away new players with their statpadding. You created this problem when you buffed t4 CV's, Hosho in particular, to silly levels to artificially inflate low tier CV population. Presumably, not retaining new players is contrary to your interests? Fix it. - Stop saying dc issues that people from certain countries started having with the christmas patch aren't widespread and are on our ends. We all have the same symptoms: ship becomes uncontrollable, ping goes to -35, we then dc, and for half a min to several min the game and all wg related websites remain unavailable while the rest of the internet works just fine. Something happened when the christmas patch hit. Fix it. - Your monetization practices are universally despised by everyone not directly under your employ. After the PR event, your relationship with the player base has been severely fractured. Selling lootboxes to minors, helping them develop unhealthy gambling habits, is not exactly giving you the image of someone with ethical business practices, either. And no, replacing lootboxes with rng bundles that you still have to buy doesn't fool anyone. You may be looking at your profits and still think you're fine, but make no mistake, the erosion of the player base's trust in you is well under way. You might not notice a hit in profits yet, but when it happens you will likely be past the point of no return. I for one think this would be a shame, so .. fix it.

dd nerf Huge DD nerf might be coming for patch 0.9.1
Captain_Newman replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
Keep in mind two things in regards to this magical torpedo detection module they're proposing, though: 1. They are justifying it by "not everyone will use it". Think about this for a second. When you need to justify the existence of something in your game by saying "it'll be rare (it won't) so it's fine", it's a pretty questionable proposal, no? A well thought out module shouldn't be a problem even if most people use it. 2. This module's impact on the game will be directly tied to how many people use it. That is literally the biggest factor that will determine it's impact. It also cannot be tested without releasing it into live, to all the players. What this means, in short, is that they will test this on a much smaller sample of players than the live servers provide (naturally), they'll conclude it's fine based on that, and ram it down our throats regardless of it completely nuking a class that is already hard countered by everything they've introduced for the last two years. In other words, saying "we'll test this before release, don't worry" is nothing but a cheap copout to try and get us off their backs. So I guess the only DD type WG allows to perform in any way is the super spammy DD that is basically a CL without a citadel. -
It's not russian and it's not premium, so of course it received the "gentle balancing pass" by detonating a thermonuclear device in it's hold.

dd nerf Huge DD nerf might be coming for patch 0.9.1
Captain_Newman replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
The main issue about this is that the impact of this module will be directly related to how many potato BB players mount it. There is no way to to test that short of releasing it on live, so I'm afraid that the next step will be "we tested, it's fine", and then we'll see a sharp decrease of torp damage dealt when this hits live. Honestly, why is this even being considered? Are DD's considered OP in this magical land of balans that WG's ideas seem to be coming from recently? -
To be fair, a lot. DeGrasse, Charles Martel, Bayard, St. Louis, Kleber (haven't tried post-nerf, though it's probably still strong?), Jean Bart, Repu, Bourg.. might be forgetting a few, but they do have a bunch of really good ships. Ofc, if you just meant tech tree without premiums, that list becomes significantly shorter. Which, I suppose, is the final point of the nerfs. Want to keep playing a ship you like without worrying about it being directly nerfed? Get premiums, because tech tree ones get nuked sooner or later.

The last time we had similar event like current "British Cruisers" we had nice poll regarding numbered chance of getting ship in advance via random boxes...
Captain_Newman replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I used to buy permacamos for my t10 ships. I stopped when I realized how stupid that was. Example: I used to really like the Henri, so I bought a perma for it quite some time ago. WG now hit it with a nerf hammer so hard, I've seen lamp posts accelerate faster. This will lead to my not playing it anymore, since I find sluggish ships boring to play. Especially so if they're cruisers. Buying a permacamo for a ship WG can, and probably will nerf into oblivion is a dumb idea. In general, their nerfing decisions look like this: Is the ship tech tree? Yes? Ok, is it fun to play? Yes? Is it russian? No? Nerf it so hard you won't recognize it. I've seen it happen many times. Buying permacamos is a bad investment. -
Did you get what you wanted from New Years Gifts and Rewards?
Captain_Newman replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
I did everything except get the PR, couldn't be bothered. I mean I did get past phase 30, which dropped the price to 15k doubloons.. but that's still the price of a full, non discounted AAA game for a single, mediocre t10 ship I would likely rarely play. -

TBH, after the christmas patch an underwhelming patch I'm not inspired to grind in is exactly what the doctor ordered. -
Guys, Henri needed to be nerfed this hard. I mean, if it doesn't have comparable acceleration to an apartment building, how would survivability expert BB's ever hit it?
