What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Captain_Newman replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
So, not really a feat of gameplay, but it was a meme that sort of wrote itself... I'm playing in a div with clan mates, on voice with discord. After the first battle, I've got two daily containers to pick up, as usual I select "resources", thinking how I'm feeling a supercontainer coming. Sure enough, the second container I dropped is a SC. This is how the conversation on discord went: me: "Supercontainer!" clan mate: "enjoy the flags..." and then this happened: -
Seems fairly broken to me, WG are bound to love the idea.

I do seem to remember they said it's a game primarily based around ww1 and ww2-era ships, with some exceptions from the early 50's allowed, but nothing too modern as it doesn't fit the game. So, taking WG's track record into account, prepare for nuclear powered Kirov class battlecruisers, Typhoon class subs, Nimitz and Kuznetsov carriers, etc.

best ships at tier 5-6 for co-op?
Captain_Newman replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough. Personally, I'd still go IFHE before CE. Yes, CE is valuable, but you need ability to deal damage consistently to anything. It's not like russian cruisers are known for their subtle ninja playstyle Like I said, you've got long range russian railguns to help you fight big bb's at range. This will help you not overextend, push in too close too soon and get blapped. Budyonny specific captain base build, as I would do it: PT-EM-DE-IFHE. Add CE the moment you hit 14 points, with the last 5 it's very much up to whatever you prefer. Without a heal or radar you don't really rely on consumables as much as it's high tier counterparts so I feel she can get away without SI. Radio Location + either PM or EL might be interesting. But, if you struggle with kiting and get dev struck a lot, you might find value in having CE first. Optimally, you'd learn how to kite more effectively so it doesn't happen all that much. Either way, you should prioritize DD's and cruisers, and position so you can use islands to either mask your approach or allow you to disengage when you need to - IFHE just gives you more versatility where you don't have to rely on fire RNG to deal damage to armored targets. -
Can't wait for the Kirov to make everything else obsolete. No, I don't mean the t5 that's already in the game

best ships at tier 5-6 for co-op?
Captain_Newman replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
You kind of answered your own question there. Without IFHE you won't be able to pen anything but dd's, squishy cruisers and bb supersctructures (that get saturated quickly). Since she can play fine at long range, I would actually spec into IFHE before CE. That goes double if you mostly play coop where concealment is much less important. -
Over 7000 matches and still substandard
Captain_Newman replied to Xhabalanque's topic in General Discussion
Like I said, for general improvement, play the other three classes more, leave CV's for later. They play completely differently to anything else and the skillset you need to develop for this class doesn't really gel well with the other classes, not as much as DD-CA/CL-BB skillsets intertwine anyway. It's always a good idea to, if you'll pardon the term, git gud in general before focusing on anything too specific that deviates from the norm. -

This has definitely been my impression after trying her out (dropped her out of a box this christmas) - planes appear to be made out of wet tissue paper. Rocket planes might have been ok with reasonable pen and all, but they disappear rather fast making multiple strikes a bit difficult if your target isn't a completely isolated DD. AP bombers... not sure what am I supposed to do with these? They are so inconsistent, it's not even funny. I've had drops on stationary BB's that resulted in complete misses due to terrible dispersion rng on the two bombs that are dropped. On occasion you do get a cit, but they're so unreliable that it's usually not worth wasting time with them. I actually took the ship to the training room to try and figure out how to use these. I haven't found the answer, they're just consistently inconsistent. Compared to Enterprise AP bombers they're a sad joke. Torpedoes should be where the strength is, but it's hard to hit anything but a bb that isn't paying attention - they're slow and have long arming distance, giving the target loads of time to react. Perhaps I shouldn't have used TA, as that also increases arming distance? Note to self, try this out before the free respecs from CB's run out. I'd say Saipan is far superior, as it's ordinance is reliable and hits hard, only downside being you can't really afford to lose planes due to slow reload on them. But GZ vs. Enterprise, oh man... not even a contest. OFC, I rarely play CV's so an experienced CV main might contradict some of my observations here, in that case, that's fair enough, but my impressions on GZ so far were that it's kind of trash compared to the likes of Lexi, Enterprise, Kaga, etc. So, to get back to the point, OP, I don't think this ship is a very good choice to improve your gameplay with. -

If I may suggest, focus on improving in standard surface ships, not on CV's, they play completely differently. Getting good in DD's, cruisers and BB's will help your overall gameplay. Getting good in CV's will only help with CV's, as they play very differently to anything else. In addition, you're not making things easy on yourself by playing what is probably one of the weaker, or at the very least not very newb-friendly CV's in the game. -
best ships at tier 5-6 for co-op?
Captain_Newman replied to HassenderZerhacker's topic in General Discussion
Then you're playing her wrong, she's one of the strongest silver cruisers in her tier. She's got very good, long range, accurate guns, but being a light cruiser with 152's, you will need IFHE (+DE) to deal damage more reliably. You also need to survive long enough to do dot damage. Kite, dodge, and don't try to force torpedo usage, that will get you killed 9 out of 10 times, the 4km wonders are very situational on a squishy cruiser with a large citadel. -
Lunar New Year Premium containers drop chances?
Captain_Newman replied to valrond's topic in General Discussion
All true. Let's be realistic, though, the only reason people buy these lootboxes is for the chance to drop ships. Remove the ships from lootboxes and only leave the other goods, and see how many people still buy them, even if most get "good value" out of them. Not dropping a ship will always result in disappointment regardless of the value of the other items that dropped. -
Lunar New Year Premium containers drop chances?
Captain_Newman replied to valrond's topic in General Discussion
One by one would be the only way, since there's no 2-pack but you can buy single boxes. That's rough man, the only reason to buy a 10-pack is if you're expecting a ship to drop... but gambling is gambling. Glad I decided to opt out of this one, luckily the ships inside aren't that interesting so it made the decision easier. -
Special Skill Dutch Captain Proposal
Captain_Newman replied to Rhineheart_Thor's topic in General Discussion
There's a whole line of EU DD's coming right after RN CA's. Even now you can switch the same captain between blyska and friesland. With the line out there will likely be more premiums as well. A special captain for these ships would work just as well as for any other nation. -
With that out of the way, Yubari's AA is worthless nowadays. Even with an AA build sector reinforcement and defAA you won't shoot down many planes, certainly not enough to prevent and discourage drops. A CV can kill you easily.

All of a sudden i receive 4 FREE premium days in exchange for being...CANNONFODDER ?!?!?
Captain_Newman replied to Herbstnebel1975's topic in General Discussion
It is a well known fact that once you get free premium time, a fat executive in WG's offices, sitting in his huge leather armchair, smoking a cuban cigar, petting a white cat in his lap while sipping vodka from a bucket, personally makes sure you get bad teams so your excellent gameplay has no chance to shine through. This is all done to frustrate you so you don't have time to realize Finland doesn't exist and was made up by Russia and Japan so they can fish in international waters.- 15 replies

Over 7000 matches and still substandard
Captain_Newman replied to Xhabalanque's topic in General Discussion
This is the worst tip ever. And also quite incorrect. Stop coming up with excuses, on a large sample size it's not RNG, it's you. As for stats not going up once they go down, say what? I've had rough periods when wr went down a bit... it is always followed up by a massive improvement. Occasional dips in your graphs are normal, but the overall trend has to be one of improvement. If it isn't, look to the mirror for the source of your problems. OP - your stats aren't great, but it's good you're not coming up with apologetic nonsense to justify them, but actually trying to figure out the problems and improve. I like that attitude. It's never too late to start improving. I took a look at your profile. Your aim seems ok-ish in general, at least it doesn't stick out as a particular problem, however, here's one problem area that does stick out: You survive 1 in 5 of your games, roughly. That survival rate is extremely low, which suggests wrong positioning and overextending a lot. Of course, not suicide yoloing while not camping either is where experience, knowledge and skill comes in. Your survival rate will also have an effect on your winrate, when you die you cost your team points and reduce their chance to win; this is why you should always try to make sure that even if you can't avoid being killed off, it's favorable trade for your team, but in general your survival rate needs to go up and the rest of the stats will follow. Basics out of the way first - is your minimap set up correctly (enlarged, ship names, etc)? Do you run premium consumables, all upgrades, correct builds? Check out CC commentaries on specific ships to get build advice, or ask here (but check the profiles of people who respond, you probably don't want build advice from a 42%er). Flamuu usually has build advice at the end of his videos when he makes videos on specific ships, it's a good place to start. You can check the same videos to see how these ships are played, but overall, your positioning and decision making definitely need some work, based on these numbers. General advice: - do you understand armor angling, overmatch mechanics, armor profiles and what can and can't pen you from what angle? If not, this is easy enough to work on. Especially in cruisers, it's helpful to know what overmatches you so you know how to position and play against certain ships. You can usually get away with more things in an angled cruiser against 380mm guns, than you can vs. 460mm ones, but to understand specifics you need to know your armor and what overmatches it. - use that minimap right from the start. How is the team positioning? Is your flank being abandoned? This isn't optimal, but going there alone anyway is making a bad situation worse - you will get focused and die. Lemmings are stupid, and if you can prevent them, definitely do so, if you can't, don't yolo and die. If you're dead, you can't influence the match anymore and it's in the hands of your random team mates, which all but guarantees a defeat. - take note of both teams right at the start. Is it a CV game? How many and which DD's do they have? Are there any specific threats to your ship class on there? If you're a BB, there's a huge difference for you if the enemy has an asashio or, say, a z-23. If you're a cruiser, you'll want to know what overmatches you. Easy enough to just not give broadside to stuff that doesn't. If you're a DD, you'll want to know how many radars there are, what their ranges are, if it's a CV game you'll want to run with AA off and keep track of planes, trying to avoid being spotted when you can, etc. There's just too much stuff to list in one post. As you can see, there's many factors that affect what your positioning should be, so definitely to start with watch a lot of cc videos and see how they do it. A lot of them explain what they are doing and why, as they are doing it. -
Get rid of Epicenter on Ice Islands
Captain_Newman replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Removing epicenter is hardly dumbing down. It's just a bad game mode, same as standard battle. Also less fun than Domination. In my opinion, ofc. I'm all for having more game modes, but epicenter and standard battle are just plain bad and less fun. Plenty of things they could come up with if they wanted to. If you want to talk about dumbing down, there's plenty of threads covering the CV rework. Removing bad and boring game modes isn't it. -
Get rid of Epicenter on Ice Islands
Captain_Newman replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Expecting the player base to change / improve is unrealistic. Changing maps / game modes isn't. Simple as that. It is far, far easier to adjust the game than to expect the player base to stop doing dumb things. So, @DFens_666, if you'll forgive a slight detour, can we have some mine fields on North / Northern lights, lines 9/10, and okinawa behind the A cap? On another note, am I alone in thinking I wouldn't shed one tear if epicenter was just completely removed? Feel free to dumpster standard battle, as well... -
Having enough karma gives you the ability to report your entire team, which is the most OP captain skill in the game But seriously, it's not worth worrying about. If anything, getting reported by someone you outplayed, or by a 42%-er who didn't like you asking them to not sail to the other side of the map as the game starts is a badge of honor.
-
Here's one. It's mostly the same crap all the time.
-
I know, right? I was thinking exactly that, so much better than that other thread where the OP there asked how to turn off last known position... OP, thanks for actually looking for ways to perform better. You'd be amazed how many people don't do that

None of this holds true of the enemy CV knows what he's doing. I observed a unicum in a french DD get obliterated by an average Enterprise just a few battles ago. The french DD used his speed boost, tried to throttle dodge, utilize friendly smoke and AA, and basically every trick in the book. The CV kept on coming and he was still dead in 5 min. What you described works only if the potato enemy CV decides to ignore the french dd. Smoke can and often will save you as long as you're not the type of DD player that sits in the middle of a single puff of smoke and keeps shooting when there are planes inbound to make it easy for the CV. Holding guns and moving in smoke means the CV has to luck out to get a hit, and most often even if he does hit it'll be a glancing, low damage hit. Divisioning up so you guarantee a CV game in a DD that literally doesn't even have smoke or any other defense is a very silly thing to do, illustrated by the fact that every time I've seen people do that, they were really bad players with all red stats.. And no, they're not hard to hit with rocket planes when using speed boost. Not at all.

Will italian cruiser permanent camo be available again?
Captain_Newman replied to LovelyBerta's question in Q&A Section
Can't check atm, not at home, but I thought it was available for doubloons in port, same way you buy the normal permacamos? -
Or Kidd or Friesland in a div with a CV, yes. A french DD in a div that guarantees CV's, though?

You guys really didn't get the "down under" joke?
