Huge DD nerf might be coming for patch 0.9.1

IJN torps, with the exception of Asashio's, don't have a limited target selection like DWT's do. The main balancing factor of DWT's was - you get stealthy, minimal reaction time torps, and you pay for it by said torps being unable to hit certain ships. Once this module is introduced and the straight lining SE BB's mount the module en masse (also know as "primary source of damage" to any torpedo boat), there will be literally no point in taking a DWT torp spammer out. Yes, the Potato Protection System module-equipped BB will be easier to farm by others, then, but at this point, why not join said others and score consistent damage by not playing PA DD's yourself? And why would you spam DWT's that can't hit DD's, if you can play shima with the exact same torpedo stealth and have a chance to nuke a smoked up DD?

  3. It always depressed me to see how many people seem incapable of understanding the mission goal that states "half the OPERATIONAL ships need to reach the exit on time". I'll never forget when too many of my team yoloed off too far from the exit to make it in time (despite pings and explanations in chat), so we were 2 in exit zone (myself and div mate), 3 of them on the other side of the map. One of our BB's is low, however, and he's just been set on fire. We ask him to suicide in order to win the op (it would have brought the number of operational ships down to 4, instantly triggering a win). What does this genius do 30s before the game ends? Fixes fires and triggers a heal. Any comments on this amazing feat of 5 dimensional chess gameplay are entirely redundant. What an absolute genius.

  5. ST, tier 6 Soviet Aircraft Carrier Hand of Stalin - armored deck and exceptionally thick belt, underwater citadel. - 8km base concealment. - unlike other CV's that burn for 4s standard, Hand of Stalin's fires have a base duration of 1s to reflect historically excellent maintenance and training standards of the Russian Navy. - unlike other CV's that can't be detonated, Hand of Stalin has a reverse-detonation rule: if conditions for detonations are met, the detonation is reflected back to the ship that caused the damage, to reflect a similar power Stalin had himself and maintain the high historical accuracy of the game. - rocket planes have very small squadrons to offset the strengths outlined above and keep this ship balanced in relation to her peers. - Torpedo bombers come equipped with Shkval super-cavitating 200 kt, 15km range torpedoes enabling stealth drops on enemy ships. Alternative option will be given when submarines are released, by allowing Hand of Stalin to equip acoustic - guided torpedo ordinance instead; this will promote team play with an allied sub as the target will need to be pinged for the torpedo to home in on target. - Instead of dive bombers, the ship comes equipped with air-dropped hydroacoustic search buoys. - When the carrier's health drops below 40%, an automatic heal consumable capable of repairing 100% of normal fire and pen damage, and 80% of citadel damage, will trigger. Healing parameters identical to Rasputin in last Halloween operations played on the hardest difficulty. - Secondary battery: 48 130mm, 4.5s base reload, 11% fire chance guns. Range: 12km. Dispersion identical to USS Massachussets secondary batteries. WG, if you're looking to hire people for your balancing department, we can negotiate terms.

Some games you get will be stomps. Some in your favor, some where your team is uncarriable. If its in your favor, your team would have won without you, regardless. If it isn't, no matter what you do, that one was lost on the loading screen. However, a certain amount of games will be closer. Either a close game all match, or, more commonly, a game in which you created massive advantages for your team in right at the start (usually by killing DD's and getting caps) will start to be thrown by the "must win harder" teammates. It's these kinds of games where the differences between good and bad players emerge - a good player can carry these a lot of the times. A bad player can't. My point? Yes, there's games you can't carry, but don't confuse that with WR in randoms being meaningless. It is not. We all get those uncarriable teams, it's what you do when the team is carriable, even just barely, that makes all the difference.

Well, the vast majority of people with hidden stats are actually quite bad, so don't be surprised that, when you say things like "solo 60% wr is easy" with hidden stats, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence or lend you credibility. I'm not saying you're bad, the truth is I have no way of knowing, I'm simply explaining why you got the reaction you did, it was the only possible one, really. Now, the bad news is, there is only one way for you to gain said credibility, but the good news is, it's easy to do - simply show us your stats. Words are cheap. And yes, people can see past basic numbers and differentiate between actually good profiles, and those that are obvious rerolls or have high numbers of games in low tier sealclubbing ships. That's a good thing, no? If solo 60% was easy, a lot more people would have it. There's a reason why that's unicum territory, precisely because it's not easy for anyone but the top few %.

    Georgia's sigma

I recently got the Georgia and I'm loving it, she's a lot of fun! The main battery seems very accurate to me, the shells tend to go where I aimed. I built her with the special speed boost mod in slot 2, secondary mod in slot 3, and the plotting room upgrade in slot 6 to get that dispersion where it needs to be. I then tested her with both my meme massachussets full secondary captain, and Halsey built for Monty / Ohio (bog standard bb tank build). So far, I like the tank build better (low amount of battles still, though, I did get her like 2 days ago, and couldn't really play her the first day). Sure, the secondary build will be hilarious in some situations, but I switched to the tank build due to two factors. Firstly, I was on fire all the time with the secondary build. It literally felt like every salvo would cause one fire if I was lucky, otherwise it was two. Still did well in those games, but I was starting to get annoyed at how much I was burning all the time, I'd prefer not to be set on fire if a mouse farts 5000 miles away. I thought I could get away with the secondary build the same way I do on the Massa, utilizing the short cooldown heals to help me tank, but somehow it didn't work as well on the Georgia. I think Massa can get away with the secondary build easier, probably mostly due to the tier difference - facing Nurnbergs, Yorcks, Hippers, etc, is a far cry from facing Smolensk, Zao, and Friesland on a consistent basis. It's also a somewhat smaller target, I guess. The second point, the secondaries still work pretty well even without the secondary build, specifically they will still hit targets fairly consistently at like 8-9km ranges. They seem to get that built in Massachussets-style accuracy. This all means that, while you will occasionally get in situations where a secondary build would have done better, I find that overall the tank build is more useful and flexible, with the secondaries stil working quite well on it. Either way, she's a bit of a monster with that speed and the guns that just seem to work great in most salvos. Occasionally I'll get the derpy shells-all-over-the-place salvo, but it's rare enough to not matter. This is a very fun ship, very glad I decided to get her after all.

That feeling when you know, 30s in, that the battle was probably lost on the loading screen just based on where your team is going...

    Smolensk

This, in a nutshell, is why balancing ships around average players doesn't work - this is how you get Smolensk-level balancing. It'd be easy to think the Smolensk is fine based on these numbers. Problem is, and no offense, but anyone actually decent to good does a lot more with it fairly easily. Smolensk is broken. It has magical ranged shells with insane dpm and is an overpen pinata to boot. At least make it as easy to cit as the Mino, if it'll have this much damage output it has to pay for it. Instead, it's overpen city if you're shooting at it with bb ap, while also getting smoke, hydro, and very decent torps (?!). WG, protip: if you wanted to prove there's no russian bias in this game, this isn't how you do it.

    ★AA exploit! Sector reinforcement sniping☆

Fingers crossed. I've known about this for a while and do enjoy using it. I can't speak about it breaking something code-wise, but in terms of gameplay balance, this is just some placebo, it doesn't really change the whole CV vs DD balance at all in my opinion. But, thanks for the answer.

Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]

This happened yesterday. Just a daily container SC drop (I selected resources). I had another SC 2 days before this one, it dropped 1k doubloons. Just as I was thinking how I didn't get a SC from daily drops in months So, this is my 7th ship from a daily SC, coming after Duca D'Aosta, Perth, Okt. Revolutsiya, Dunkek, Kii and T-61

So, abusing slingshotting is ok, but having a shortcut that kills one plane fast, which still doesn't solve your problems in a vast amount of situations, that gets looked at immediately? I guess you don't alway dislike inconsistency, then? It's the internet so don't misenterpret my tone as being angry, at this point I'm amused more than anything else. - They're completely immune to detonations. - Almost immune to fires. - Automated consumables. - AA nerfed, able to strike anyone from absolute safety. - Slingshotting allows for abusable periods of plane immunity, giving the ability to almost completely bypass AA *way to shoot down 1 plane fast* OMG call in the rapid response team! You people are hilarious

What is a "decent" winning %?

Exactly. Sailing across the map away from the cap you spawned at right at game start is almost always a mistake. Just don't abandon your flanks unless their collapse is assured and you need to kite away.

    Is Yamato still good?

Yamato is very strong in the right hands. Meaning, not mine. I play her rarely, because she's just not my thing - I dislike the static, long range gunnery type of gameplay and much prefer the mid range mobile BB gameplay that comes with Georgia or JB. Yes, you can push in closer with Yamato, but there's so many ships better for that sort of thing, that have faster turrets, handle better, and don't have those vulnerable cheeks. In the end I always find myself tanking bow in and I just find it boring. Kudos to everyone who can play her well, though.

What is a "decent" winning %?

TBH I've recently decided that I find these 48-49% people to sometimes actually have a worse effect on the team than your absolutely clueless 42-44%-er. See, the worst thing a 42%-er will do is usually die first costing you some points. It was going to happen regardless, the moment he got placed in your team. You just have to even the scores by blapping their 42%ers, it's not like there's a shortage of them. But these 48-49%-ers usually think they understand map tactics and how things work, when they really don't. This is the sort of player that will report you for kiting away from a collapsed flank in a squishy cruiser instead of yoloing or dying, or the dude that starts giving out orders (wrong ones) right at the start of the battle when he's literally the least qualified team member to do so. A 42%er will just die. A 48-49%-er will mess up the whole battle by giving out wrong map tactics, and because in any game, the vast majority of the 24 players are actually quite bad and don't know who not to listen to, they'll follow him. Trying to tell them it's wrong and they shouldn't do that, and why, will usually be ignored and result in being reported. I'd honestly just rather he got dev struck immediately and be quiet, it's less damaging both to my brain and my win chances.

What is a "decent" winning %?

That's a nice, succint way of putting it, I'd like to add just one thing: the WR he has is kinda-sorta-ok (or to be expected) for an account with his number of battles - accounts that are above 50% but have less than 1k battles (and he's at what, 380-ish?) and aren't rerolls are kind of rare. It's a positive sign that he's actually asking these questions, though, there's so many people coming up with apologetic bs on why their bad stats are ok. It shows he's interested in doing well, and people like that usually find a way to get there.
