What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Captain_Newman replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
I keep forgetting to post this one, so.. not exactly today, more like 10 days ago. Just ran across the screenshot again... I ended up having to fight 2 bismarcks, 1 FdG and an Alaska almost entirely on my own (my team wasn't great at actually dealing damage, but somehow they were great at securing kills when targets were low). Too bad the dispersion gods said no to it becoming a 300k game by making the last salvo's dispersion craptastic. Still, can't complain, good ol' JB just delivers as usual. -
Both Hayate and Smaland will cost fxp. Since t9 fxp ships cost 1 million fxp, and these are t10, it's a safe bet we'll need tons more, and soon. They are releasing new reward ships for fxp / coal / steel all the time now, at such a pace that it's really, really difficult to have too much of the stuff even if you're a very active player.

I understand where you're coming from, but I still like RL, because actually interpreting information it gives you correctly does take some skill and experience, at least early game - it's usage late game when there's only one surviving enemy is about as straightforward as it gets.

I'm happy to agree with the first part, and sadly forced to agree with the second part of this sentence... OP, sad to see another one chased away by the red-stat masses and WG's.. shall we say, special decision making, but enjoy your hiatus and hope to see you return at some point! -
Radio Location info works both ways; naturally, the guy using it gets more info, but you can often tell early game which dd went to your flank just by the fact you've been radio located. This isn't 100% accurate, as people run all kinds of builds, but let's say that the enemy has a Shima and a Daring, and you're radio located, it's a good bet that the shima is on your flank (very common on shima builds), as Daring captains often opt for IFHE and simply don't have the points to run RL as well. Just an example, it could very well be the Daring is on your flank but the RL came from a Zao running a CB build. Point is, it does give you some info back which you can always use to plan your approach if trying to contest.

It's the difference between: - say, 50% of all the clan-tag people are bad; - 90% of all the clanless people are bad. I made these percentages up, so don't take them too seriously. You're right in that it isn't a very reliable method, but then, nothing is, short of using Matchmaking Monitor. Another way is looking for emblems, but it's not like having, for example, a cruiser elite forces emblem necessarily equals skill, these days. -

There are exceptions, of course, but if you check profiles of your random teammates who aren't in any clan, you will soon see a pattern (of red). It's similar to all the Rommels in the game. Is someone with a nickname that is or contains the word "Rommel" necessarily bad? No. Are they usually really bad? Yes. There are patterns you can recognize, none of them being 100% accurate or without exceptions, but they're there nonetheless. If anything, it's a pleasant surprise when xXx_Rommel_1337_destroyer_xXx actually pleasantly surprises you and plays well, but when I see a name like that without a clan tag, I do have certain expectations. -

I thought that was a giant cauldron for cookouts when they have deck parties? -
JB is a fast flanker. Playing her as a bow-on tanker is a symptom of a potentially serious condition, acute potatitis. I often see these JB players in typical bow-on reverse style gameplay, and it hurts my eyes every time (sure, sometimes you might get forced into it because your team abandoned you and you're now locked into that position by the enemy's big guns, and there's nothing to counter the DD permaspotting you - but that's unfortunate and can be avoided by smart positioning most of the time). You have speed boost, very fast turrets, decent stealth, good ap and he, decent secondaries, good reload, and reload booster. All of these features work best when you put them to work on the enemy's flank. I own both Georgia and JB, and both are very mobile, fast BB's, and I'm very glad to have both.

If memory serves, JB's been around for much longer than Alaska, she'll get her turn at removal as well most likely. Give it another 6 - 12 months, probably. -

Exactly. Anyone who has an interest in improving can find the resources (CC vids, etc) to do so easily. The fact it's not immediately present in the game is a slight inconvenience, and if someone is truly interested they won't let the fact they need to do a google search or two stop them from accessing the information they need. It's the JuSt FoR fUn crowd that's the issue, and there's no helping people with no interest in improving even if you shove tutorials right in front of them, they'll likely click them away or gloss over them not really assimilating any info. They just want to sail around and shoot at stuff on the rare occasion something's actually in range. -
1. T9 plays pretty ok these days, you're top tier a lot of the time. The JB does fine in t10, and is extremely comfortable in t9. Tier spread is no reason to skip it. 2. While the JB is indeed good at credit farming, only considering that aspect is missing the point of the ship, which is quite simply - fun. It's mobile, cruiser like gameplay equates to one of the most fun ships in the game, a far cry from static long range bb gameplay on offer by some other ships. In the end, it's your coal, and your choice, all I can say is that anyone who doesn't get her in time won't ever know what they missed out on.

Light cruisers are at present among the best damage dealers in the game. We'll see what happens if and when they push IFHE changes, but for now, they're really strong. The fact you're struggling with Seattle isn't that weird, she's probably among the worst CL's in the game, and is in a lot of ways a straight up downgrade to the Cleveland (the turrets are objectively worse in every way that matters and impacts gameplay, bad traverse and firing angles on a CL = yikes). Helena, Dallas, Cleveland, Chappy, Kutuzov, Smolensk, 155 Mogami, every RN CL t6 and up, etc etc.. all examples of either good, strong, or straight up overpowered ships.

Next Christmas lootbox contents will be a very good test of the veracity of this statement. Creating artificial scarcity which then boosts lootbox sales is either planned, or a very happy coincidence. I suspect you'd only need the fingers of one hand to count people who believe in the latter, though. Not complaining about the removal, though. Smolensk can't be pulled soon enough, and JB has been available for a long time and is quite strong as well, so no complaints there. -

The questions I ask myself practically every day. The accounts that have around 20k battles and all red stats baffle me. If the only motivation is to see ships blow stuff up, why aren't they in coop? -
Ah, I misunderstood. Carry on, then

CV's. Being on the receiving end of the BB dispersion casino. Knowing the battle is probably lost 30s in just by the way your team mates are moving. CV's. 40-something %ers excessively pinging the map and insulting much better players because they're not doing what they incorrectly think they should be doing. Broadside GK at 14 km from my Thunderer taking 6 waterline shells (confirmed visually) and taking shatters and bounces only (kept happening yesterday, for some reason). CV's. New ship curse, when you see the ship is good but every time you take her out half your team will be dead in 5 min. Black always being on the enemy team. CV's. Pumping 400 he shells into enemies in a few min, to only get 2 fires, both of which were fixed instantly. Detonations. Cyclones, aka "you are not allowed to shoot anything else for the rest of the match short of blind firing it, because rng". DD's that yolo into a cap covered by radar and a CV, then rage about no support when they die. People who find the choice of two whole types of ammo on their ship far too complicated to understand, so they always use the wrong type for the situation. Well, I only hate this when it's on my team When you manage to score just enough kills near the end of the game to put your team at a few point advantage. All your team has to do is nothing in order to win. Too bad that teammate with 1k health just keeps on shooting regardless, and naturally gets killed a few seconds before the end.. Playing a cruiser that performs if the enemy team actually pushes or at least spends any amount of time trying to contest the caps, only to have them run away to the map edge all the time. Net result: you're chasing the enemy team in a squishy cruiser all game and score low damage due to them being at the edge of your range, sailing away most of the time. Teammates, especially bb's, on the 9/10 line on North/Northern lights. Teammates sailing around A on Okinawa. Haven map. There's maps that are too open. This one has too much cover, leading to a lot of unsatisfying wins due to the enemy spending a lot of time hugging very high islands. My team mates making an enemy target turn when my torps were going to nuke it. You finally get multiple permafires on an enemy ship? These will actually kill it after they tick a nice amount of damage? This is a clear signal for your team to all focus and nuke that target out of existence immediately. Ofc, when you need help killing a DD that kind of focus fire will be absent. Tirpitz players who think the way to fight another bb is to rush close, then turn full broadside in front of it's bow so they can launch torps and maybe hit one on the bow as they're eating monster salvos in their broadside. DD players who smoke up the moment they enter the cap without ever having been spotted, then end up eating torps in said smoke soon afterwards. Bonus points for the traditional "noob team no support" in chat when that happens, too. I probably forgot to mention CV's, so, CV's.

That choice is what we call a "yikes" Honestly, you don't know what you're missing. JB doesn't really play like a normal BB, it feels more like a roaming cruiser with very big guns. It's a BB for players who find normal BB play boring. Extremely fun. I'd take that over Lutjens any day of the week and don't even think it's subjective, objectively the JB is a far better purchase. If you can grind enough coal to get the JB in time before removal, definitely do it, you can thank me later.
-
Both are excellent ships, so all things being equal, I'd say you couldn't go wrong with either. As others have indicated above, though, the JB is being removed in two months, so it's a no brainer. You can get the Georgia later, she'll likely stay available for at least another year. Thunderer is a fairly new addition so she's unlikely to be removed any time soon, either. JB is very comfortable to play, she handles very well for a BB, can be pretty speedy with that speedboost, the guns handle very well, you get very good AP and HE, so once you learn when to use which, and when to pop that reload booster, you'll have a blast. Easily one of the most fun BB's in the game.

Super Containers, Signal Flags and WG Code
Captain_Newman replied to Afghanicus's topic in General Discussion
We need a container with negative doubloons. It's possible to get below 0 doubloons, into negative values, in which case you owe WG and you have to pay them. Until you do, your account is marked in red color to indicate you are in debt; while this is active, your entire ship counts as a citadel, even if you're a dd, and your captain skills don't work. If this doesn't make you pay, well, then a pair of strapping young fellows come to talk to you personally about the issue. They do their convincing by blasting hard bass, so the neighbors can't hear the screams. -
Giulio is listed under rare ships, which means the chances of it being available again in some way other than Christmas boxes are slim.
