[Nerf Bat] Yueyang being slaughtered
Uglesett replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Glad I haven't spent much time on that line, then. (Got the Fushun in the New Year's event, and I'm still on the Fushun...) -
Musashi & Krohnstadt to be removed from sale (both coal & FXP) in 0.8.0.
Uglesett replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Hm. Been holding off on buying the Kron to see what happens with Alaska. But guess I should pick it up now if I want to have it. -
It's the fourth Ring contest code (that's been delayed, should have been out before the weekend).

What is your most frustrating "Premium" ship?
Uglesett replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
None of the premiums I've actually bought are problematic (although it took me some time to get the hang of Musashi). Of the ones I've gotten from events or containers, though, I'd say the Okhotnik is... interesting but wonky. I think my main problem with it is that it really needs a higher skill captain than the one I've got so far to really shine. And the Duke of York is... welll... the Duke of York. I take it out occasionally for a "start x fires" mission, but I can't pretend to like it. -
I usually keep the ships I have a permacamo for. Plus some ships that I just enjoy playing. E.g. Leander, Fiji, Amagi. I find that I generally don't end up playing them, though. I either end up playing their successors that I'm grinding or premiums for the credits and captain training (plus I usually transfer the captain to the next ship in line, so most of my elite ships have crap captains).

Map reticule - Nice unless you are a smoke cruiser, or hiding in a storm
Uglesett replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
Spotter plane is a lot more useful than the reticle when it comes to shooting at someone firing from smoke. Sure, the reticle helps if the player you're shooting at stopped dead while smoking up and sits still in smoke, but if they're moving around in the smoke cloud it doesn't make any real difference. It depends on what you're sailing and how its smoke generator works, but generally I'd say: a) Start slowing down before you trigger the smoke. b) Don't sail in a straight line while the smoke is being deployed. c) Don't sit completely still inside the smoke after it's fully deployed. If you go full speed, trigger the smoke and then start slowing down, you won't be hidden properly by the smoke as it's being deployed, and it's fairly easy to predict where you'll stop. Once you get the feel for it, you can basically shoot just before the target disappears, and get the benefit of the lock on accuracy. By the way, when firing into smoke, I personally find it easier to shoot at someone who fires their guns sequentially than someone who fires them simultaneously. -
I can see it now, DDs trolling by getting chased by guided torps and then sailing behind teammates.

In honour of this thread, I think I will take my Asashio out for a spin tonight

This. Other than that... HNoMS Stord as a Pan-Euro premium (preferably with special captain Skule Storheill, simply because that is the best name for a Norwegian naval officer since Peter Wessel Tordenskjold). Maybe one of the County-class CAs. Much as I have a soft spot for the Scandinavian coastal defense ships, they really wouldn't work well in this game, mainly because of the low top speed. The closest thing you have are some of the lower tier protected cruisers, and even they are significantly faster. And let's not get into ships like the Eidsvold class, which are basically cruiser-sized, but slow and have the same issues regarding armament as the Mikasa.

cv refunds KNOWN (in dubs and creds/free xp. what about the commanders? link edit 2)
Uglesett replied to MrWastee's topic in General Discussion
You don't have to keep them, you just can't get the xp spent researching them as free exp. I mean, this is a classic "can't have your cake and eat it too" scenario. If you want to actually keep the ship researched, then it works just like any other line (you can sell earlier ships for 50% of purchase cost, but the exp is sunk). It's only if you want the research converted to free exp that you lose access to the ship. -
anniversary WoWs (Crysantos) Statement "Anniversary of the First Battle" Gifts
Uglesett replied to iJoby's topic in General Discussion
Singular "they" is actually an older use than generic "he". The former dates back to the 14th century, the latter is documented from the 18th. -
Point. So yes, in the rare case where a DD is sitting in a smoke screen and has noone spotting for them: hold your fire.
-
That said, we have threads about BBs being overpowered, we have threads about DDs being overpowered, and we even had someone claiming recently that cruisers are overpowered. Tells me the class balance isn't half bad.
-
It can't. Other ships need to spot for it.
-
If you smack a 10+ point captain into one of a select few low tier destroyers (e.g Tachibana), you can squeeze down to around 4.9 km concealment. Other than that, the best concealment at higher tiers is 5.4 km with concealment expert and upgrade. So if destroyers are suddenly popping up at 3 km, you probably should see an optician.

This game is nothing but endless frustration and anger.

WG fix *edited* game or pay me back my money
Uglesett replied to Adm_Hoshiko's topic in General Discussion
I knew a guy who only had one working arm (the other was crippled from birth), and if he could play Unreal Tournament using only a mouse, WoWS shouldn't be a problem. -
Honest advice: is it worth starting one of the collections available via Arsenal containers?
Uglesett replied to DanSilverwing's topic in General Discussion
I don't think you can "start" any of those collections (meaning that items will also drop from daily containers), you have to buy all the containers to complete them from the arsenal. At least I finished the dunkirk and 2nd anniversary collections that way. Neither gave me the option to collect them from regular containers. And I don't think the Bismarck collection did either (didn't buy from arsenal, though - I got that when bismarck containers were dropping like flies from weekend missions last year). As for whether they're worth it... I got the anniversary collection because it gave a ton of permacamos for ships I either have or will soon get. Your mileage may vary. French collection gives some one use camos and a special captain. I would only bother if you play french ships and can get some use out of the captain. -
[NA] LittleWhiteMouse - testing the penetration changes to torpedo bulges
Uglesett replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
One of the departments at my workplace does network security testing. I've been immunized. -

Royal Navy CLs are going to be absolutely hilarious if this goes through, though. -

Uglesett replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
But that won't matter, because penetrations to saturated areas are going to cause 10% of maximum shell damage... -
I got the Musashi for coal. Was thinking of picking up the Kron with my free exp, but right now I'm holding off a bit and waiting to see what happens with the ships currently in development. Alaska in particular seems interesting to me.

[NA] LittleWhiteMouse - testing the penetration changes to torpedo bulges
Uglesett replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
Regarding the change itself, this is a bit like fixing a squeaky AC fan in your car by removing the AC unit. Sure, it technically solves the problem you were complaining about, but there are better solutions... -
[NA] LittleWhiteMouse - testing the penetration changes to torpedo bulges
Uglesett replied to Aragathor's topic in General Discussion
How the hell do you manage to come to that conclusion? You do know that the error in question was pretty much exactly the opposite of the change they're testing now? The error people reacted positively to was something that made it easier for large calibers to score citadel hits on broadside targets. This is going to make death by a thousand paper cuts easier, but isn't going to make any significant difference when shooting broadside targets with large calibers.
