Well... I mean, you can say that about all the captain skills. None of them are strictly necessary. Heck, I've won a fair number of games without captain skills at all because I've forgotten to pick them after a free reset. But the difference they make is still significant, and while they may not make a noticeable difference in every game, they're going to make a significant difference in enough games to make them more than worthwhile.

Well, to be fair: in order to get a secondary spec to work, chances are you have to skip on skills like fire prevention and basics of survivability. I suspect a tank-specced Yammy or Monty will survive a lot more HE than a secondary specced GK.

Works for me. Although I honestly think they should have used this instead.

Do you have difficulty aiming with torpedoes when your ship is on fire (i.e. huge smoke plumes obscure the aiming when enemy target is near-by)?
Uglesett replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure I have reduced fire effects on as well. But I play on multiple PCs, so I might just have forgotten to switch it off on one of them. -

Uglesett replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Not really, but I do have issues dodging torpedoes some times because the smoke obscures them. Also, it can be a real pain in the arse when in a close range brawl and trying to aim guns in zoomed out view. -
There's no either/or in this case. Being overly aggressive early on, before you know where the enemy team is going, can be rather suicidal. So it's often better to hold back a bit at the start until you have some notion on where the enemy is concentrating. If your side is outnumbered, you kite, delay and annoy them with torps. If your side has the advantage, you push.

When do the midway HE dive bombers finally get nerfed?
Uglesett replied to Colonel_Boom's topic in General Discussion
Erm. Did you read the quote I was responding to? And I'm sure a BB player who gets caught with their pants down by a DD with their guns pointing in the wrong direction would love to "be able to obliterate an immediate threat to himself". Or a cruiser player would love to "be able to obliterate an immediate threat to himself" when a battleship shows up on their flank. If you get caught at close range by a DD you got outplayed. CVs should have no more "get out of jail free" cards than any other class of ship. -

Uglesett replied to Colonel_Boom's topic in General Discussion
Never bothered me before. I'd rather just get completely deleted on the rare occasions that I get completely outplayed (not really any difference from being multi-citadelled by a BB or eating a well-placed spread of DD torps) over this "death by a thousand paper cuts" annoyance of the current CVs. At least with the old CVs you could juke them and make them waste a lot of time on a failed strike. In real life, a single bomb or large calibre shell hit to the flight deck would put a CV's flight group out of action for days. Complainers should think of that. -
How do you use a 4 km torpedo range DD ?

One word: ballistics. -

To be honest, until something is done about this the mods should be required to use one of the dark themes -

Whatever do you mean? It looks perfectly normal to me. -
Dark vs White theme and colors in the forum!
Uglesett replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Is there any more to say about the subject, though? The issue is that when you paste text from another source, the forum preserves the text formatting unless the user specifically chooses "paste as plain text". The consequence is normally only noticeable to users who prefer the dark themes, because most web sites and text editors default to dark fonts. -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Uglesett replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Errr... what makes you think I'm asking a question? Dude, stop with the strawmen. I'm not claiming Conqueror is OP. Neither is @Toivia. A ship can be "balanced" but still be irritating. It's not a list of what makes the Conq OP, it's a list of things that makes it irritating. There's a difference. -

Uglesett replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
To be honest, not if it works. And sure it has low priority. I think everyone who uses the darker themes knows that. If this means it finally gets higher priority, that's just excellent. -

While the dedicated threads may not have gotten that much attention, it's been acknowledged several times by staff -

Dunno. It's not as if this hasn't been brought up numerous times before and just as quickly forgotten. This is the first time there's actually been anything resembling a reaction that might get some results. To the mods (edit: and staff, hi @MrConway, @Tuccy), I give you a challenge: For the month of April, all of you use the dark forum theme only. -

89 rockets (and a bomb) to destroy a single DD....
Uglesett replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Dude, check your persecution complex. To quote Hot Shots, your ego's writing checks your body can't cash. And calling you out on it is not bullying. If you had a realistic appreciation of your own ability and was actually willing to listen, then you wouldn't get anywhere near the same amount of flak. -

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, you really are the Dunning-Krüger effect personified, aren't you? -

Uglesett replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Eh. On lower tiers, a small handful of random games will usually be enough to unlock the modules. And I hoard my free exp for e.g. Alaska. If my teammates want to complain about my setup being suboptimal, they can complain to WG who designed it this way (I'll usually retrain my captains in premium ships, though) -

Well, I don't exactly have to spend much time comparing profiles to see who of you and El2aZeR is and isn't worth listening to when it comes to what can be done in a CV... -

Uglesett replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Weren't you the guy harping on in another thread about a single squadron not being able to kill a DD, despite multiple more skilled CV players pointing out that you were wrong? I mean, are you really the right person to come down on other people's ability to learn? -
Ship performance is about more than gunnery, ffs!

Can't say I'm super excited. When I get back up to 1 mill fxp I'd rather spend them on the Alaska, and then if it turns out to be a decent ship I'll get the Yoshino for coal.
