It's a speed bump on the way to the Jervis (which, in my not at all humble opinion, is awesome).

Spawn pattern of flak bursts is semi-randomized. It was described in an article, forum post or video a month or so back, but I don't remember exactly where they posted about it.

But does not make for a particularly good or rewarding game experience. Yes, kiting can be a rewarding experience in a non-CV game. You can actually play around with your detectability range, use stealth to change angles and fire from a slightly different direction. You can focus on avoiding fire while still keeping your guns going. In a CV game all of that is thrown out of the window because you can not avoid being spotted if the CV wants to spot you and even if you perfectly maneuver to avoid fire from surface ships you're just going to get torped from the side by a CV. And unlike the RTS iteration, there's no real downtime. I mean, if you'd at least document that you actually can be bothered to drag your arse out of a CV and play some cruisers or DDs occasionally, I might be inclined to take you seriously. But nothing so far suggests that you actually have any real experience being on the wrong end of a CV. With RTS CVs, you had options. The all-or-nothing approach to their attacks meant that, yes, occasionally you did get completely deleted and the game was just over. But far more often you could mitigate or even completely juke their attacks by prepositioning, timing and maneuvering, in which case you would have made them waste an attack and they'd be in for a long cycle before a new attack could be assembled. There was an element of skill on the receiving side as well. With rework CVs, it doesn't really matter, because a) Ok, you dodge e.g. two torpedoes. Another two are immediately on the way from the other side. And you've just possibly exposed yourself to broadside fire for little gain. It's often just better ignoring it and taking the torps. b) Even if a strike group is entirely wasted, there's no real delay before the next one arrives.

Yes. It's a far less frustrating game experience. And I'd much rather not contribute by getting killed early on than not contribute by doing nothing except dodge air attacks and incoming fire because I'm constantly spotted.
-
Well, except that a quick, clean death (and a new, hopefully less frustrating match) has now been replaced by an annoying death by a thousand paper cuts, things haven't really changed in that regard.

Dark vs White theme and colors in the forum!
Uglesett replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
It was a bit of a clumsy wording on my part. The question is really whether it's a pure off-the-shelf solution where customizability only comes in the form of graphics and style sheets, or whether it's a solution that allows them (either wg staff or their subcontractors) to modify the front end code. -

Do you just use a third party solution with some customizability, or do you actually have an in-house team that can make changes to the source code of the forum software? I mean, there already is functionality to detect a paste action and display a pop-up in the text input field asking you if you want to paste as plain text instead. The necessary building blocks are already present, it's just the wrong choice of default action. -
Impossible play with DD after this CV rework
Uglesett replied to Mydgard's topic in General Discussion
As I've argued before, whether or not RTS CVs were more dangerous is one thing, frustration level is another. With RTS CVs, if you managed to juke out their attack and survive, you'd have wasted a fair amount of their time, and just as importantly, you had time to react and reposition before the next strike (heck, if you were lucky you might even get some fighter support from your own CV). With the reworked CVs, there's practically no downtime, so they're a lot more frustrating to be focused by. Also, in the RTS version, CVs were only ever a frustration when your team had the worse CV player. Now they're irritating regardless. -
Impossible play with DD after this CV rework

I think the answer to that is "maybe". Some patches have broken compatibility with the previous version, but not always. If it works, it works. -
Yammy was buffed a while back to have faster base turret traverse than the Mushi though. 3 deg/sec vs. 2.5 deg/sec

Impossible play with DD after this CV rework

The filename contains date, time, map and ship name*. So it's usually fairly simple to figure out. *e.g. "20190219_204550_PBSC110-Minotaur_47_Sleeping_Giant.wowsreplay" -
Dark vs White theme and colors in the forum!

On another note: I'm a bit disappointed that this year the space theme isn't applied by default during the april fools event. Because then all those who've never even figured out that there is an option to switch forum themes would at least see why this is an issue. -
Impossible play with DD after this CV rework

Recording of the last 30 matches is on by default post 0.8.0, and you can attach .wowsreplay files to forum posts. -
While I haven't grinded it yet, I do suspect there's a lot of placebo effect connected to the Yamato legendary. 19 metre reduction in maximum dispersion isn't that huge of a difference all in all. It might make a bit of a difference in the edge cases firing at smaller targets at longer ranges. Statistically, it will probably buy you a bit higher frequency of dev strikes against cruisers at range, at a cost of a bit less damage against big, fat BBs.
-
You mean like stating something along the lines of "so I can perform well at both ranges"?

Impossible play with DD after this CV rework
Uglesett replied to Mydgard's topic in General Discussion
A DD sailing off alone trying to stealth torp will usually get a ton of spotting done as well. Few things are as annoying (in non-CV games) as a DD just hanging around unobtrusively and spotting an entire flank for their own team. Meanwhile, a DD that doesn't stray far from under the skirts of the AA cruisers will neither spot much that said cruisers can't spot for themselves nor contribute much to capping. Personally, I rarely feel useful in a DD unless I can comfortably stay at least 5 km or thereabouts ahead of the rest of my team. -
What, are you saying 57k average damage in a T10 BB isn't super unicum performance?

Perhaps, but how much of a contribution to their team are they in that case? -
Ouch. She really doesn't hold back. Yeah, I'll spend my free exp on Alaska. And then if Yoshino turns out to be good, I've got some coal waiting for her.

When do the midway HE dive bombers finally get nerfed?
Uglesett replied to Colonel_Boom's topic in General Discussion
Then why, pray tell, did you not reply to that post which used "but muh realizm" in all earnesty rather than mine which blatantly mocked it? And how on earth do you suggest that this should somehow magically work? You don't want CVs to be as effective against DDs when they're far away from you, but if they manage to get within range of a CV then said CV "should be able to obliterate an immediate threat for himself". But not if the DD "outplayed" the CV? I mean, if you buff the DD's AA, it doesn't matter where she is in relation to the CV, she's still going to be able to defend herself. And if you buff the AA of other ships so that they can effectively protect DDs scouting for them, then you'll fail your mission to "give CV a better efficiency again Cruisers/BBs". Or do you somehow want to decrease the dispersion of air dropped weapons when the aircraft are closer to the CV? How is that going to separate between a DD that outplayed a CV, and a DD that's "spending their entire game only chasing CV"? It seems to me you just want the game to magically work according to your whims, without giving any thought to how this should actually be implemented. -

By the way, considering the theme of this game, I'd say a bit of rainbow text now and then is entirely appropriate -
HEPL! Mogami, the lovable scamp - Playing tips, if you have any?
Uglesett replied to RAHJAILARI's topic in General Discussion
I upgraded to the 203mm guns, but that's mostly because I don't have IFHE on my Japanese CA skipper (whom I'm planning on moving to the Ibuki and Zao when the time comes). I may keep the Mogami with a dedicated captain in which case I'll probably go for the 155s and IFHE. Except that 14 pts captains don't exactly grow on trees I find it to be... effective enough with the 203's though. Personally, I tend to tunnel vision when playing ships with faster firing guns (my inner Ork goes WAAAAGH! DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!, I guess) whereas with slower weapons I take the time to orient myself more often. So while my DPM might not be excellent, my survivability is better. -
-
Well, I wasn't arguing that you did (as I said, strictly speaking you don't need any of the captain skills). But proper management of heals and DCP tends to involve buying yourself the time to do so, which often means keeping the range open (and also sometimes hanging back and dropping off detection where a more survivable build could push in and keep firing). The fact is that these skills do make a significant difference. Especially at the ranges where a lot of the rapid fire flamethrowers can reliably hit you with lots of shells. And that, coincidentally, is roughly the same range as a secondary focused BB likes to be at. A Yamato or Montana staying between 15 and 20 km is going to take a lot less HE and suffer far fewer fires than a GK closing to secondary range.
