What's "new" about this? Useless gits have been chasing CVs since forever.

I think that was supposed to be a joke

Unique / Legendary upgrades for costly Ironium
Uglesett replied to ZWC's topic in General Discussion
780 according to MrConway. https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/115877-update-082-space-battles-space-assault-rings-of-saturn-binary-star-torpedo-beats/?do=findComment&comment=2944290 -
I feel I should have a picture of the Dos Equis-guy with "I don't always sail around in torpedo view, but when I do it's in the Asashio" as a caption. I'm not a fan of always sailing around in torp view, because even in the most torpedo focused of lolibotes, I prefer the option of being able to slap some other DD around with the guns on as short a notice as possible. Especially late game when people are running low on health the difference between acting and reacting can be very significant. But as I said, I do try to switch to torpedoes while I have someone else targeted than the ship I'm planning to launch at.
-
In a duel with someone who has torps, the PT skill can help in that regard (because they'll invariably have you targeted with guns before they torp). But against stealth torps... well, personally I at least try to switch to torps while I have another ship targeted than the one I'm intending to torp, and don't immediately switch back to guns afterwards. I don't always remember to do it, but I try.
-
What's the problem with that, though? If it means they can get more shots out of their guns while nobody's targeting them while they avoid taking damage themselves, then it works. I mean, especially on cruisers that can outturn their turrets, the difference between sailing in a straight line when you can vs. sailing as if you're about to take fire even when you're not can be quite significant. I'm not ashamed to admit that in ships like the French and Japanese CAs, I gladly abuse the PT skill to get more shots off. Similarly, in some DDs (like the Germans, which also have rather sluggish turrets), knowing whether I'm in a one-on-one duel and can focus on my immediate opponent or if someone else also wants to get involved can help a lot.
-
PT isn't so much a skill that helps you to stay alive, though, as a skill that tells you when you can get the most out of your turrets.
-
No, but you know that someone you can't see are detecting you! Now, this is where you're wrong. If you know the area in which a DD can plausibly be and have some awareness of the map features around you, you can pretty much anticipate where torpedoes can plausibly come from. And excepting RN DDs, spread is also very predictable based on the range. If you have to take action to evade after you've detected the torps, you've already failed.
-
Also: map awareness. Keep track of where DDs were last spotted and when.

Unique / Legendary upgrades for costly Ironium
Uglesett replied to ZWC's topic in General Discussion
You're welcome Sooo... don't buy it? It's not as if any of the legendary upgrades are essential, and a lot (if not most) of them aren't even that worthwhile to use in the first place. -
If only the T4 CVs weren't dull as dishwater

May I remind you that there are people in this world who are seriously putting together an antarctic expedition in order to find the edge of the flat earth?

Unique / Legendary upgrades for costly Ironium

A) Learn to paste as plain text, ffs. B) Costly? Most of the fly, strike, win objectives this time around are easily completed if you just play the game, and the space battles are at least an amusing diversion. -
Because one is a tryhard-account dedicated to playing one class (that you're presumably good at), while the other is the completely general account of someone who almost never plays the same ship two games in a row? I mean, I could probably have a significantly better winrate if I stuck to the ships I'm actually good at. But where's the fun in that?

I must admit I have picked Vigilance on one cruiser captain Specifically: The Norma

about those flooding nerfs and the extra damage they would procure... + poll
Uglesett replied to Prospect_b's topic in General Discussion
My impression so far is... eh? I've never really mastered the art of causing permafloods myself, so my own stack of liquidator-achievements can be counted on one hand. At the same time, I've always been quite good at avoiding permafloods (avoiding insta-deletion by a wall of torpedoes, on the other hand...), so I rarely got flooded out. All in all... I'm not sure the change has made much of a difference in my case. Also, while the damage is less, the slowdown from a flooding can be crippling. So most of the time I end up DCPing a flood for that reason. -
It may of course be the case that I massively overestimate El2aZeR's intelligence and ability with the English language, but I somehow doubt it. I at least read it as an implication that there is no hard counter for CVs, so all you can do is work around them.
-
Since when did implying something for rhetorical effect become ridiculous?
-
Erm. You do realize that that's exactly what @El2aZeR is saying, right?
