Fundamentally flawed mechanics of the game
Uglesett replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
That's not really a flaw, it's just necessary balancing given by the premise of the game. If there's a "flaw" in that respect, it lies in the basic premise that the larger ship classes can show up in the same numbers as the smaller ones. -
Do you have more fun in matches with CVs or without?
Uglesett replied to Thracen's topic in General Discussion
CVs are designed to be the fun police for every other class, so of course games with them in are less fun than games without them. Unfortunately, they're not even particularly fun to play either -
And the Karlsruhe, which was also sunk while participating in Operation Weserübung. The Königsberg class didn't really have a particularly glorious history. Their most significant action was the invasion of Norway, and two of them were sunk during it. I'd reserve that distinction for the Nürnberg. I found the Königsberg to be surprisingly resilient. While she's not exactly well armoured, I found that I was able to fire effectively with her while still staying well angled. As mentioned, I think she just has more forgiving (forward) turret angles than her successor, which allows you to actually get some use out of both her guns and her armour at the same time..

Did anyone get the Russian BB from "Soviet Era Containers" earned by playing (i.e. "Free" one via "Victory Competition" - not bought via "Premium Shop")?
Uglesett replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Somewhat disappointed that this thread doesn't have a poll with "Da!" and "Njet!" reply options. -
Not really. She was damaged by coastal artillery during the invasion of Norway (specifically while ferrying invasion forces to my birth town of Bergen) and sunk by RAF bombers while in port. Fun boat to play, though. A lot more interesting than the Nürnberg following it. Not sure why, exactly. I think maybe she has more forgiving turret angles which allows her to make actual use of all of her guns while also making use of her armour.

Erm, I meant you should edit the previous post and remove the embedding so it's not necessary to scroll past it when you want to read a later post. Reddit-embedding doesn't really work properly anyway, so it turns into an unholy, unreadable mess with screwed up background. At least on dark themes.

@fumtu Please just link to the article instead of embedding it. It just turns into a messy, unreadable wall of text that's a pain to scroll past.

7k doubloons to get marginally better economic bonuses than I already have for free? Nah, I'll stick with the weeb camo.

Worild of Warships or "Dungeons and Dragons with ships"?
Uglesett replied to aph_73's topic in General Discussion
I'd argue that cruisers are either pure Ranger or multiclass Fighter/Mage or Ranger/Mage. -
Worild of Warships or "Dungeons and Dragons with ships"?
Uglesett replied to aph_73's topic in General Discussion
I'd be all up for a game of Bugbears & Battleships. -
I genuinely don't know if I can be arsed to make anything out of this event. The only thing about it that might be a teensy bit interesting to me is the Lazo. The russian floating inferiority complexes battleships don't really interest me that much. I'm more partial to Lady Dame Admiral etc. etc. Harrington myself, to be honest.

Exchange coal etc for ships, Armory, question.
Uglesett replied to Sharpasaspoon's topic in General Discussion
Steel. (1:10 exchange rate, iirc. I.E. 1 steel for every 10 coal you're missing) -
It's still not entirely clear to me how this is supposed to work. Is it built for free, or can you build it for free (i.e. is it automatic or not). And once it's built, how does it work in detail? Does it automatically hoover up all rewards collected by the clan members and then they have to be redistributed (sounds like a lot of work and requires a fairly active clan leadership) or is it only for speshul clan rewards that come in addition to individual rewards? Can members voluntarily donate to the clan treasury? I mean, seriously, how hard is it to make a detailed description when you release something like this?

☆ Manually controlled AA can not work! ♡
Uglesett replied to Yosha_AtaIante's topic in General Discussion
Unless a skilled player can actually spawn a ton of bursts right on top of an enemy squadron, there's not really going to be a point to it. But if you actually make a proper skill based mechanism around it, I can see it working. The main issue I foresee is that of distance calculation and which weapons fire when (and how long the shells travel before detonating). Since AA guns are divided into distinct range zones, you also have to somehow set the range of your attack to determine which guns fire. And this will change as the aircraft move closer or further away. How does the game "know" which distance you are firing at? Distance is easy enough when firing main battery guns, because the surface action game is basically two dimensional and the shells detonate on impact. You really only need to determine distance in a two dimensional plane. Against aircraft, you have to work in three dimensions, and the shells are supposed to go off after a set travel time, not on impact. Unless they incorporate essentially radar fusing, where you just have to get the shells close enough. Or they'll need some kind of lock-on mechanism that selects a specific squadron as the target (as with surface ships) that is used to determine the distance. -
I'm not sure if the average number of DDs has gone down, but I have the distinct impression that there are overall more games with... wonky team compositions. More games with 0-1 DD, but also more games with 5. More games with just 1 BB etc.

WTF Yamato! Help me with this ship please!
Uglesett replied to hamed_pour's topic in General Discussion
Erm. Geeze, guys. While OP is exaggerating a bit (presumably for rhetorical effect), they did start the thread precisely because they know they're doing something wrong and want to get advice. No need for the roasting. For my own part, I haven't had the Yammie for that long, but I've played a fair few Musashi games. I basically just have to echo a lot of what has been said previously. Don't rush forward, but don't stay still either. Just varying between quarter and half speed will throw off a lot of shots. Typically, I find that they work best when I can sort of form a triangle with two cap circles and myself, and angle in towards the middle of the map. Or if it's a standard battle take up a similar position a bit out on the flank (so somewhere halfway between the middle of the map and the map edge). That allows me to fire at targets trying to contest at least two possibly even three caps while still getting the most out of my armour. If I in addition can use an island to guard my side, all the better. And plan ahead, so that when you need to turn out again you have a suitable island to do it behind. While they're not quite built to kite the way the lower tier Japanese BBs are (*looks lovingly at Amagi*), they are no slouches either. You have good rearward gun angles, and while her stern is vulnerable, if you kite away at an angle where you can actually use all your guns, you also tend to take most incoming fire on your belt and deck and not the stern. I know a lot of people claim this, but I tend to disagree (and not just because I sucked in the Izumo). While she does share similarities in terms of being a bit plump and not terribly maneuverable, her gunnery is very distinct from the Yamasashi sisters. Thanks to the high velocity they can be really trollish, and I found I got a lot more bounces (probably due to flatter trajectory bouncing off the deck) and overpens than I do with the slower, heavier 18.1" shells. The Yamato/Musashi guns just feel incredibly comfortable to shoot with compared to the somewhat wonky railguns of the Izumo. I'd say if you can survive in the Izumo, it's good preparation for doing the same in the Yamasashi sisters, but when it comes to dishing out the hurt they're distinctly different. -
Did anyone get the CV from "Naval Aviation Container" earned by playing (i.e. "Free" one - not bought via "Premium Shop")?
Uglesett replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Got the last possible free container last night, and not a single ship in sight. -
Maybe escort destroyers are an answer to DD players complaints regarding CV rework?
Uglesett replied to HussarKaz's topic in General Discussion
And how many CVs do you have to defend against in operations again? -
Cheap or expensive camo ? Consumables ?
Uglesett replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
On top of the permacamos that I've received through various events, I have a pile of consumable camos that never seems to run out. I'm still burning through +100% exp halloween camos, for example. Never had to spend credits on a camo. As for premium consumables... eh, it depends on ship and tier and how much I feel like tryharding. Premium damage control is the one I prioritize, others only if I feel they're worth it. E.g. I'll run premium torpedo reload booster on Asashio, because of course. But on Irian? Usually not worth it. Premium heal is also dubious, as the last charge is often basically wasted because by the time you get to that stage there's only a tiny sliver of health queued up to be healed anyway. I find that it's often only really useful if I don't have superintendent. Smoke and hydro are often important consumables to have as premium. I guess radar as well, I just don't have that many radar ships in my inventory. -

Uglesett replied to HussarKaz's topic in General Discussion
Even if these ships had some kind of magic AA, you'd still be gimping yourself against the three classes you're (almost) guaranteed to face to be more effective against the one class you don't necessarily face that often. -
I'm talking about the current CVs. You know, the ones that are shoehorned into what's supposed to be a semblance of the same gameplay as the other classes.

Maybe escort destroyers are an answer to DD players complaints regarding CV rework?
Uglesett replied to HussarKaz's topic in General Discussion
How is this different from existing destroyers with strong AA? We already have a wide variety of AA levels between different destroyers. Some like the higher tier US and KM DDs are quite deadly to planes. Others like the IJN torp line are not. But the fact that the Kidd exists doesn't help a random Kagero player. You can't be sure there's a mix of strong and weak AA DDs on your team. And if there is, they're not guaranteed to spawn close enough to actually be within support range of each other. The only way to ensure that is to division up. -
No. What you're maneuvering around on the map are the planes. How much time does the average CV player actually spend moving and positioning the ship itself compared to any other ship class? The hull is just a distracting element, an asset that needs to be defended. What you're actually playing are the planes.

Uglesett replied to HussarKaz's topic in General Discussion
Escort destroyers weren't more effective against aircraft than full scale destroyers. They were just cheaper.
