Didn't we talk about this only a few days ago? HE penetration is fixed and based on the calibre of the shell, it has no relation to shell velocity or impact angle.

Because magic. All the Japanese 100mm guns were buffed to use 1/4 rule instead of 1/6 rule back when the Kitakaze and Harugumo were developed. https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-077-go-navy/#balance

If you're talking about the personal assignments in individual matches, you can see them by pressing Tab and clicking the mission tab. If you're talking about the long term personal missions, it's the last tab under the "combat missions" page in port.

Secondaries : Cruiser HE power at 10 km or not ?

Erm, yeah, about that.... Has it occurred to you that if a bot destroyer is a threat, your problem may not lie with everyone else? -

Also, dive bombers just love to have an island available to mask their approach until they're right on top of you. -

Pretty sure the change a few patches back was applied to all ships in the game, so there are no AP-firing secondaries left. -
How can you have played 13k battles and have no clue what the IFHE skill does?

[citation needed] Bots don't really evade. They tend to pretty much beeline straight for you. -

Now, I can definitely see the appeal in chasing a desperately fleeing cruiser in a secondary specced, speed boosted Georgia while humming the Jaws theme to myself. But trying the same in the Musashi doesn't sound like a recipe for success. -

Sorry to burst your bubble but.... they are. Even fully buffed, they have nowhere near the hit rate of actual, manually aimed guns of the same type on cruisers and DDs (except in the case of utter potatoes who can't aim), and the damage they do is for the most part nowhere near that you can get from buffing and properly using your main battery guns. Appealing to any kind of historical role is meaningless in this game. Secondaries are deliberately underpowered for game balance reasons. And that is perfectly fine. The few ships that have genuinely effective secondaries tend to have other restrictions. IE worse main battery dispersion than comparable ships (Ze Germans and Massachusetts say "hi") or other limitations on their main battery damage potential (IE Georgia with only six main battery guns). And even then a half decent player should be able to do much more damage with main batteries than with secondaries. The times you see people score truly massive secondary battery damage totals, it's usually because their opponents go full potato mode instead of just staying at sensible ranges. In which case... they'd probably would have won anyway. Any semi-competent cruiser player will easily manage to stay out of secondary battery range of anything except speed monsters like Georgia and some of the Frenchies, and a DD has stealth working for them (and even if spotted, it doesn't take long to get to a distance where a bit of maneuvering will make your secondaries miss entirely). -
Secondaries : Cruiser HE power at 10 km or not ?

To be fair, the change to ammo type (from AP to HE) probably makes the 155s far less useless against DDs than they were previously (where they'd basically either overpen or bounce), and their high shell velocity probably helps their hit rate a bit. So a secondary build Mushi probably isn't as daft as it was a couple of patches ago. But it's still pretty daft. And the results from a single test room battle aren't enough to go by. If you look at the dispersion tests someone like LWM does, she typically does at least ten tests for each scenario (look at the Mass/Georgia reviews to see what I'm talking about). There's so much randomness in this game, especially related to secondary weapons, that a single test just isn't statistically significant. -
Their secondary armaments are effectively identical (Georgia has marginally better firing angles, but the guns are the same down to the accuracy buff), so I can't see why not. I don't think it's mandatory. LWM argues that manual secondaries on those ships can actually make them too accurate in some circumstances since secondaries always aim for the water line - you'll end up with a lot of shells shattering on cruiser belts at really close ranges. I don't think that's enough of a disadvantage not to take it, though. I think if you really want to murder DDs that try to rush you, manual secondaries is the sure fire way to do it. But if you just want to farm damage, not having it means you'll fire at targets on both sides of your ship, and the increased scattering might actually help you get more damaging hits against larger targets up close.

Secondaries : Cruiser HE power at 10 km or not ?

How on earth do we know that when your screenshots elegantly cover up the part that shows how many shots were actually fired? Yes, it needs to score more hits to do the same damage, since the Musashi's 155mm guns do more damage per hit. But how many total shots were fired to reach that damage? What's the percentage of hits? How long did it take? Were they using the same upgrades and captain specs? -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Just had a very GG with @HansiSolo on my team I ended up with a couple of killstealsecures (including killing the Scharnhorst in a cyclone by just using the map indicator ) Almost got a Kraken as well, but RNG trolled me and the last surviving enemy burned to death instead. But that's the Kronshtadt for you -

Unless, of course, said pursuer is smart enough to just press "s" a couple of times and let you slide out of secondary range before speeding up again to keep up... -
Secondaries : Cruiser HE power at 10 km or not ?
Uglesett replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Erm... to improve the penetration? Without IFHE, 127mm HE shells will shatter against 21mm or thicker armour, and penetrate armour of 20mm or less. With IFHE, the shatter threshold is raised to 28mm, and you'll penetrate up to 27mm armour. Everything is explained here, it's not as if this info is hard to come by. -

Impact angle is irrelevant for HE. And overmatch is an AP mechanic. -

IFHE. And the skills with a stop symbol over them aren't necessarily useless, they're just considered sub optimal. In this case, it increases the HE pen of the secondaries from 20mm to 27mm plating, so it's not without its merits. It makes her able to pen most cruiser plating within her matchmaking spread. (It increases the HE pen of the main battery as well, but that doesn't really make a difference) -

A survivability build isn't a camping build, you berk! There's nothing stopping you from pushing with a survivability build if you have an ounce of situational awareness. Massachusetts has a built in 40% dispersion buff that makes its secondaries actually hit stuff even without manual secondaries. Secondaries are her gimmick. Musashi's secondaries are an afterthought. -

Sooo... you're saying that you manage to push further with a survivability build than you do with a meme secondary build? (And ditching concealment module for acquisition module.... duh, of course you're going to get focus fired early on) -

Secondaries : Cruiser HE power at 10 km or not ?
Uglesett replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Because for most BBs (especially ones like Mushi which doesn't really want to find itself in a brawl), like with CVs, the highly situational ability to occasionally kill a DD that misplays with secondaries is far outweighed by the consistently useful added survivability of a tank build. The latter is going to be consistently useful every game you play, the former is just going to give you a chuckle once every fifty games or so.
