dd nerf Huge DD nerf might be coming for patch 0.9.1
Uglesett replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
Then they'll be a bit easier to dodge then they are with current TASM, but at least it won't break the internal balance between torpedo boats. If you absolutely want to avoid percentage changes, you can add a fixed distance instead. The point is to not screw up DDs that have low detection on their torps as their main advantage, and usually pay for that in other ways. But if some torpedo options are so ineffective due to long detection range, then could it be that it's those choices might need a buff or a bit of rework rather than the acquisition module? As other have mentioned earlier, you can be pretty confident that the segment of players who... have the required skillset to make DD players occasionally feel that it's worthwhile to play a torpedo boat are going to be mounting it. -
I wouldn't be entirely surprised if she gets some kind of meme secondaries as a "hold my sake" to the Georgia.
-
What you are seeing are recordings of replays. Updating the replay system to actually show the UI elements that the CV player sees during the game doesn't rake in cash, so WG hasn't bothered to do it.
-
Can I just reiterate that removing the missions for acquiring the unique upgrades is a horrible decision that only serves to make the game even less attractive for players who don't have all of the time in the world to dedicate to playing? Someone who has maybe 5 hours a week available to play is never going to spend that time grinding the same lines they've already gone through, so all you're accomplishing by trying to force the research bureau down everybody's throats is making those players feel even less welcome than they already do. (And if you want my thoughts on the subject in more detail, I wrote a thread about it here)

Missed opportunity to take a page out of WeRateDogs' book and give Puerto Rico event 13/10 turds. -
dd nerf Huge DD nerf might be coming for patch 0.9.1
Uglesett replied to Jethro_Grey's topic in General Discussion
Take the existing module, give it the 5% damage reduction and up the torpedo spotting range improvement from 20% to maybe 30-40-ish % and call it a day. Slightly less useless, without throwing all of the balancing of torpedo types out the window. That said, though, after what's been going on the last year it's probably time you started thinking of ways to make DD play less unattractive, not more. -

The problem is that it makes the sneaky torpedoes significantly less useful for the DD player compared to other torpedo types that don't have short detection ranges to begin with. And sneaky torpedoes often have other disadvantages to pay for that concealment advantage, such as -DWTs not being able to hit all ship categories -Being slower (US drifting sea mines spring to mind) At least previously when you slotted the TASM module, it still took the individual balancing of different torpedo types into account. All torpedo types were slightly less effective against a ship that slotted TASM, but the advantage of having stealthier torps was still there. With the new module, one significant factor that is used to balance different torpedo types against each other is thrown out the window, and the only thing that's going to matter is torpedo speed. -
There will never be a BB with bigger guns then Yamato...

And three random penetrations with Yamato (which fires 50% more shells per salvo, at a faster rate) is 14600 damage -

As I mentioned in the thread in the development blog forum: It seems a bit pointless, though. The increase in calibre over Yamato's guns basically gives you the ability to overmatch 33-35mm plating where Yammy "only" overmatches 32mm. And afaik that makes no actual difference whatsoever. Meanwhile, you have a third fewer guns, and the increased AP shell damage isn't nearly enough to compensate, especially when you take her slower reload into account. Yamato accuracy is already so good that any improvement is not really going to be noticeable, at long ranges ballistics plays just as much of a role as dispersion. I don't see how they're going to make this ship attractive compared to the Yamato without reaching fairly deep into the box-o-gimmicks. -
Yeah, that's what I thought. She looks basically like a later season Harekaze in disguise. EDIT: Albeit with better torps, which is nice I guess.
-
With only six guns in total she's be pretty anemic with anything less. I can't see how they can make her attractive compared to the Yamato without pulling out something from the box-o-gimmicks.
-
Wonky guns, though. I seem to recall someone mentioning something about that weeb boat show that the Harekaze gets German 150mm guns at some point in a later season, and this basically looks like that with mod 2 torps.
-
How many ships are there with bits of 33-35mm plating that are useful to overmatch? Is the increase to 510mm actually going to make a useful difference?

While I very much would want to have the Thunderer eventually... I went for the Yoshino. Part of the reason is that I have a 19 pt IJN captain that I can use with her, whereas my RN skippers need a few more tours of duty. I haven't played more than a small handful of games in her yet, but my impression so far is that she's pretty enjoyable. I found her to be tankier than I expected from her reputation, although she's too chonky to get overpenned and eats citadels like popcorn if you show broadside to the wrong target. Great kiter (especially in situations where you don't have to worry about friendlies eating your torps), but probably limited carry potential due to the bad concealment.
-
I've mostly played her in coop so far to get missions over with, but took her for a few rounds in random as well to farm credits and captain exp. My impression so far is that she's... perfectly alright. A bit meh in the damage department (mostly due to SAP being less effective against bow-in targets than HE), but suprisingly tanky if you know how to angle and kite. Mostly ended up in T9 matches, and she handled uptiering decently enough. She's alright, I guess. Could have done with a bit better speed and/or concealment if she's to be an effective DD chaser.

wrong ship purchased by another family member
Uglesett replied to Earthglade's topic in General Discussion
Not quite sure what's so funny, tbh With the free premium time I've had thrown after me the last month (plus bonus credits from stuff like getting ships I've already got), I've earned enough credits to: -Buy and equip the Z-52 -Buy and equip the Gneisenau -Equip the Yoshino -And I have enough to buy and equip another T10 as well. -
Come on, WG. We have the cat camo for Harekaze, why can't we have a suitably punny doge camo for Shimakaze? You know it makes sense, @MrConway, make it happen
-
By default, yes. But there's a setting in a config file somewhere that can be used to change it.

That image looked familiar, and sure enough I have found it myself when I needed a swimming shiba to make a lame joke:

It's not as if it takes that long to grind the 20-ish million credits you need to buy and equip a T10. What's the rush? -
Erm. Whut? I mean, it would have been one thing it if had at least been consistent between shell types (heck, you could even argue from a "realism" standpoint that the tracer takes a little time to ignite), but having the behaviour be different for different shell types just seems arbitrary. And it's not as if this game is lacking in murky, difficult-to-learn game mechanics.

Or just use https://replayswows.com and post the link.
-
Russian tracer compounds slower to ignite after leaving barrel. Is realizm, da? (In seriousness, though, I was wondering why I had such a hard time hitting Smolensk with blind fire when I reasonably reliably can hit RN CLs. This explains it, I guess.)
-
Well, they've managed to genuinely piss off LWM at least. In what's ostensibly her review of Puerto Rico she takes a lot of time to go into the details of just how scummy this event was and what makes it so, and much better than I could ever have written it. http://shipcomrade.com/?p=3882 Scroll down to "The Basics of Acquisition" and read from there. This part in particular is scathing:

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.

You are three battleships. Your available targets are two well-angled enemy battleships, a couple of almost stationary, low health cruisers with limited room to maneuver and a low health DD firing in the open. Which targets do you shoot at?
