Experienced beginner skipping a ship
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Voncarsteine's topic in Newcomers' Section
It's worth it though because it will in turn help accelerate the leveling of more commanders. Especially if you have some premium ships that same commander is viable on. -
Sooo... buy more Santa loot boxes? Are there still ship drops?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Whereas any scandals involving the gaming industry are of course completely unheard of. It's just one big paradise of impeccable business ethics, really. In fact, something was even very obvisouly false about Wargaming's very own product description of these very Santa loot boxes, compared to what went on in several CC's loot unboxing videos, as I've pointed out several times on this forum, and without being corrected by the usual insufferable know-it-alls, I might add. -
It's basically running away while occasionally firing backward at your pursuers and taunting them.

It was "known" in exactly the same way as the ships drops from the loot boxes WG conspiracy is known. And actually I don't think it really even was, but what people actually had suspicions about was the cheating regarding fuel efficiency. -

OK so I did it, not before blowing more doubloons on a Molotow, which is great, and my FAITH was REWARDED with another FOUR SC conversions, only one of which I consider meh, a Marblehead, of which I had bought the Lima edition already when it was in a discount bundle the other month. Oh well, at least I don't have to look at that ghastly Lima camo any more. Still no Kami, but a Gascogne, a Boise and a Kronshtadt. O ye of little faith!!1 FOLLOW THE SANDAL! -
January Combat Missions - Discussion Thread
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
It says Which Tier V silver tech tree ships get perma camos you can buy for doubloons? I thought that started at Tier VI, and only premiums had permanent camouflages on any lower tiers. I found one Tier V premium perma camo to buy - Krasny Oktjabr for OR - but it costs 500 doubloons, same as the discounted Tier VI camos. -
The cruisers and DDs of course, because they can just quickly kite away while firing back a lot more often. Also hydro.

Attack of the 35% winrate carriers
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Praevasc's topic in General Discussion
I think they've seen Flamu's hint about how you can double your doubloons through the refunds, by just buying the perma camo for uneven-tiered carriers, and now they are trying to grind their way to the Tier VII carrier in hopes of cashing in. -
Only a complete noob who has never gone up against an IJN gunboat, Worcester etc could think that was true.

Well, I guess people who put those two things in this relation also would never have thought that big, important car companies like VW would use an elaborate scheme to defraud millions of customers on the exhaust rating of their Diesel cars. Just one of many examples that not everything is already a comparison just because it falls a few miles short -
Well for one thing, if you install lots of software on a Windows PC, it gets slower. That's always been the way things are in the Windows world because it is a 'badly' designed operating system. On purpose, to accelerate this cycle where hardware manufacturers can push their latest new crap on consumers after a few years. So that's one thing: If you use that laptop not just for gaming but also for all the other things you do, then it will be slower. One way to make it run WoWs faster would thus be to do a complete 'blank slate' Windows reinstall, leaving off as much as possible of any other software you run on it, as well as most of the usual clutterware and bloatware that comes with normal consumer systems, especially branded ones. Though nobody will be able to predict how much faster it will run WoWs after that, and if it even will be perceptibly faster or better. And the other thing is, it may be an i7 but not all i7s are created equal. CPUs are succeeded by the next generation after about a year or so. Each succeeding generation is supposed to be faster, and even though in fact some aren't, or not by much, there has been definite progress since 2010. The intel Core-i series has been introduced in 2008 and for all we know, yours could very well be the first i7 generation (Nehalem) and eight generations have passed since then. Also the speed not only depends on the CPU (generation) but the whole main board and chipset architecture that comes with it, as well as possible hardware 'bottlenecks.' Also even if it does have a graphics 'card', that , too, will be obsolete by now. It's just the way things are.

My only real aim...
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Hopeless_Guppy's topic in General Discussion
Nelson does work in Tier 9 battles all the time because of the +- 2 tiers matchmaking. No need for any subjunctive here. That said, I specifically wrote "Nelson's guns would be at home..." if you don't mind reading carefully. Sure, sure. Tell that to all the Nelsons I've citadelled with NY and Texas and see if they laugh -
A topic borne of desperation
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to KarmaQU_EU's topic in General Discussion
The main problem with WoWs on console is multiplayer game play. What people with consoles like to do is plopp down on the couch with their friends, kids or spouses at home, get a drink, pick up the controllers and just play. On the same screen. It might work, especially since the screens keep getting bigger and bigger. But I doubt it. -
My only real aim...
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Hopeless_Guppy's topic in General Discussion
They are actually fairly different. The one thing they have in common is they need to avoid getting snuck up on from behind, and kiting doesn't always work too well, for obvious reasons. However. Nelson has nine big and accurate 16-inch guns that would be equally at home two tiers higher and could even hack it in a Tier X match in a pinch. It also has an obscenely overpowered heal, so trying to burn her down is usually futile. It can be done but it takes skill and a really long time and/or a really good ambush position. Better to sneak up and torp her. Or else AP her because the armour is fairly squishy; you can easily citadel her from the front even with a New York etc, which is two tiers lower. The angle hardly seems to matter. So what you want to do is position carefully, tank only in the right places/constellations, avoid really close brawls, and blap all manner of unsuspecting victims. Even DDs. You can get really close dispersion sometimes that just annihilates them, even with the nerfed AP, but especially with the HE. You also want to put a Dunkirk brother as captain on her. The turrets turn fairly quikly as it is and with his extra high powered Expert Marksman skill, you can really switch sides in no time at all. Dunkerque is a bit more of a "Lidl premium". She does have her strengths but you need to like her. She is fast and squishy because she is a battlecruiser, not a true battleship. She also has smaller guns with super high shell speed. So flat trajectories, which makes aiming easier, but you get a lot of AP overpens. Gameplay is a bit scharnhorsty but without the tankiness and the torps and with not quite as beastly secondaries. You need to zip around the map and find yourself a lurrve puppet, meaning to say a cruiser to ambush. If you pull it off, you can make them look very stupid at times. However, it's also often the Dunk that looks stupid. Now that I read it back, it does in fact sound quite similar. It doesn't really feel very similar though. Nelson is basically Dunkirk on steroids, but in slow motion, and with a second and third chance built in if you make mistakes. -
Capts in the Arsenal
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Death2Pittsy81's topic in Newcomers' Section
They haven't been so far, and the Arsenal is how old now? Half a year at least? Also besides the ones you can buy outright, you can also get a Dunkirk brother by buying Dunkirk containers to complete the Dunkirk collection, and you can get Jean-Jacques Honoré by buying "Vive la France" containers to complete that collection. The difference is you need to spend coal instead of gold. You don't really know how much it's gonna be in advance but at least the containers also contain some extra loot. -
Last Prinz directive
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Vivi_Ornitier's topic in General Discussion
Yeah but only in division with decent players, or if it's random and operation of the week, then it should at least be in the early days of the rotation, i.e. Tuesday or Friday. Weekend crews are usually horrible and the tail end of the rotation is also often littered with not very skilled players. -
Last Prinz directive
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Vivi_Ornitier's topic in General Discussion
Here's another idea: Collect but don't open any containers until then. The rewards for the sub-collections of the "Belle Époque" collection are premium days. Open them all on the day and with any luck, you should be able to complete at least one of the sub-collections. -
"Intel HD Graphics" means a (small) section of the CPU is dedicated to graphics. That's not gonna do you any good. Looking at the rest of the innards, well I have different standards, which is not to say I'm a gaming hardware snob - quite the opposite, in fact - but actual hard disks were obsolete five years ago already. (SATA SSDs have been obsolete for about two years.) It's a shame to throw any money at all at such a thing. Then again, I do my own assembly of desktop systems, which saves a ton of money, so I'm not really the one to talk here. But you do get what you pay for, that's just the way of the world.

Additional noob questions
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to WindSplitter1's topic in Newcomers' Section
No, it's just right. If you're in them. She's only got two per side and the reload is quick but the firing angles are dismal. So you can only fire them while showing all of your broadside. Also the armour is very squishy in general. All of this combined means you don't get to use them very often because you usually get obliterated before you can close in. They are mostly relegated to ruin the day of idiots who rush you while forgetting about them. If you're lucky. Much better to grind the Gneisenau, which you don't even have to pay real money for. Or to buy a Scharnhorst, even though that's not easy to play either. With the upcoming carrier rework in th next update, all of that is completely academic. Just try killing a US or Russian DD, or contesting a cap which holds one, and you will soon find out. Also British ones, at least those of T VII and above. -

I had that when using a completely obsolete PC a year ago which was just too weak. -

The game is still very forgiving as regards hardware. That said, your system should have a dedicated GPU, not make do with any onboard graphics on the mainboard. That would really slow you down. Try https://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=nb Just toying with the filters and looking up what some actually mean will help you reach a more informed decision. Unfortunately, it seems to show that laptops even with lowly 1050 graphics - which I'm perfectly happy to use in my self assembled low-end desktop system - are already in the "gaming" category and will exceed your budget by 150 to 200 quid. That is probably just the price you pay for the convenience of having a fully pre-assembled laptop.

Experienced beginner skipping a ship
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Voncarsteine's topic in Newcomers' Section
Never skip a ship. You skip the experience gained playing it. By which I mean your actual playing experience, not the in-game currency. I've done it, and regretted it every time. There are also much better uses for the free XP. You can skip the occasional bad stock module if it really gets too unenjoyable. Even that is questionable though, especially with the masses of power camos and flags WG showers upon users these days. 150k is almost half a Nelson already. -
PSA: Concealment nerf coming up in 0.8.0, hitting mainly cruisers
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
It's not in the Developer's Bulletin but besides the carrier rework, remember there is another "thing" heading our way: The Concealment Expert skill will apparently be "normalized" to 10% flat for all ship types, which is bound to impact cruisers most of all because they lack the tankiness of BBs. Now I'm not saying that is a bad thing per se, especially for the usual suspect OP radar cruisers if it means their concealment gets larger than their radar range, or at least closer to the radar range... -
Bugs i've been having when joning a battle
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Vilodrom's topic in Newcomers' Section
This happened to me frequently when I was using a completely underpowered and obsolete office PC. It has all but stopped ever since the switch to a very modest but up-to-date gaming system.
