I can't for the life of me see a good reason to move the Research button from the right side to the left. I did not even notice it so much in the regular game client since I don't research many ships these days, what with all that extreme snowflaking over the Holidays. But on the PTS, where the grind is much quicker, it really gets annoying. Seems a completely gratuitous move.

A solution to all issues - Double Random games
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Buut... ... how are you making sure this happens and it's not just a sealclubber free-for-all in the "normal" queue? Purely by the number of battles fought? Even if there are weighting factors attached to differentiate for Co-Op and Operations players vs mostly Random, Ranked and CB players, I still don't think it would necessarily do the trick. Also increased queueing times, especially on the very low tiers where they are quite long already once you've left "bot mode" Random protected MM. -
Instead of continuously opening new threads whenever I see a documentary or something on Youtube that seems to be worthy of sharing with the WoWs community, I decided to add them to one and the same thread in future. Everyone is of course invited to join in, as long as it isn't the usual dumbed-down History Channel dreck ;-) Starting it out with... Return to the USS Atlanta Real-life USS Atlanta was teamkilled by USS San Francisco in a confusing night action off Guadalcanal in the, er, Solomon Islands, with one of two US Admirals killed in action in WWII on her bridge. This is of course all a bit ironic since as a Tier VII ship, I don't think Atlanta is ever fighting on the Solomon Islands map in the game except maybe due to some kind of divisioning fail. The wreck lies in about 130 m of water, which means diving it is a kind of involved expedition, necessitating all kinds of special breathing gas and equipment, so the wreck is not overrun by recreational divers. The video is just a short excerpt of the full, 52-minute documentary; don't fall for the spam promising the full-length version on YT, it is a rip-off. The full version does however appear to be available on vimeo (and netflix). https://vimeopro.com/user1250845/documentary-features-shorts-and-series/video/57538016

A solution to all issues - Double Random games
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
The idea has merit but it would of course involve at least a degree of SKILL-BASED MATCHMAKING which is of course a BAD BAD word and absolute no-no on this forum. Edit: Chances are it would be much more likely and easier to introduce a few of Quickybaby's ideas for World of Tanks to lessen the impact of sealclubbing, like limiting the amount of captain skill points on the low tiers, a more methodical approach to tutorials, handbooks and game guides ("fix the Wiki"), dropping skill point redistribution fees on the low tiers, coupling the unlocking of skills to a mandatory tutorial system, disallowing premium consumables on the low tiers etc. -
Please fix game before introducing more stuff

Make that years. Also a less laggy port screen and functional replays are imho a lot more important that British CVs and Russian BBs and Italian DDs and any new ships and anything conceivable else. Buying the flags in the game for doubloons is cheaper, last I looked. https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/105471-wallet-warriors-gold-guide/?tab=comments#comment-2615979 -
Hi, I'm using this mod "Badobest side bars v.2" which shows the remaining hitpoints of the ships in small bar graphs, and from past discussions I gather the amount shown (for enemy ships) is from the time when the ship in question was last spotted. However. Near the end of my last game, it showed the enemy top tier BB (unspotted) in full health, about which a remark was made in chat, to which another player replied, "No, maybe 27K." How is it possible for him to know that when the sidebars don't? Is there another mod that doesn't rely on spotting? Did the player in question inflict damage on the enemy BB and run the numbers in his head or what?

Side bars vs "reality"

Can't say, the game ended right after the exchange. i never saw the BB myself all game. -
Post Hotfix: The nerf seems to have gone a bit far in places. Tier VIII Baltimore completely shshshsh^...shreds Tier X planes and in double carrier battles, Nicholas can shoot down 30 to 50 Tier IV planes fairly easily with only just a partial AA build (omitting manual AA and BFT in favour of SI). (The one "benefit" of an unlimited number of planes on the "ships"...) Edit: The same captain in a Farrragut struggles a bit more against same-tier aircraft but even just killing only half a dozen or so planes in two defensive AA alerts seems a lot more effective than how things were before the rework. As one alternative mechanism of reducing carrier power, I'd like to come back to an earlier suggestion of mine which is to include the weather. Planes should be less effective in bad weather, they should suffer damage over time when they are sent into cyclones and storms, EDIT: the weapons dispersion should increase, and maybe some should just get lost on the way in or out. Edit: I like that the AA doesn't shoot through mountains any more and that ships also can't "see" planes behind mountains any more and vice versa. It adds to the realism. To add an extra layer of tactical complexity, the degree to which players can directly control their aircraft's altitude should be increased, and altitude should have some kind of bearing on mechanics like spotting and possibly weapons use (otherwise the complexity would not be very 'tactical', as with the submarines). Ceterum censeo: "Well first of all, the new carriers should never have been overpowered when they were first introduced after the rework. You don't start out by introducing something into the game that is inherently overpowered to begin with. Because if you do that, then everybody in the game has to suffer. For every single guy in a battle using the overpowered thing, 23 other guys have to suffer. Whereas if you introduce a ship that is weak to begin with, the only one suffering is the one guy playing it. So you mitigate the actual impact of the ship by starting it out as weak and then making it successively stronger to balance things out. That's how you balance new classes in any type of PvP MMO."

I don't think the GUI should show which ship any given squad of plane belongs to. Or at most, only for planes on my own team but not the enemy. It's too much information, takes away from the immersion and it clutters the screen.

Only if you get a yuge bonus for sinking her with a submarine. By and large, I very much agree with Flambass though that we don't need any new ships for quite some time, and that it is much more important (after the CV mess is resolved) to improve the GUI, and develop a much more ergonomical and less laggy port interface, and decent replay controls. Those should be the priorities. Frankly I can't understand why the replay improvements haven't long since been prioritized since replay videos on Youtube are a major marketing tool and it costs WG absolutely nothing. There are lots of people out there lining up to literally spin crap into gold for WG, for nothing, but WG refuses to give them decent tools.

CVs and gaming enjoyment in WoWs: Polls

Closing the poll early due to the release of the hotfix. Results/percentages have been stable from the time the sample size reached statistical relevance. -
Stop gathering input from CCs and terminate the test servers etc. Since you're ignoring the input from the testers anyway, this would let you save some money and save them a lot of time and frustration.

Operations : why do players not know what to do for 1-2 days ? ?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
That's not my experience at all. When the new Op of the week rolls around, the first few days you usually get the best teams and the easiest wins. Then come the weekend warriors and gameplay steadily deteriorates until the next change-over. Things have been disrupted lately though, starting with the first cycle after the week when the Ootw was Dynamo. I have been hypothesizing at the time that the good players had been using Dynamo with its guaranteed wins to farm easy credits and commander XP to the point of being completely fed up with Operations, and stopping to play them for a time. -
Replace the "Frosty Fir Tree" in the Arsenal with the "Shadow Lurker" camo. That green is really not very attractive and the Shadow Lurker is just too cool to be sold only once a year.

Lunar New Year in World of Warships - Discussion Thread
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
From the promo, you could almost get the impression it was the Year of the Dragon but on closer inspection, as of yesterday, we have actually entered the Year of the Pig in the Chinese zodiac. In fact we do get a pig patch but another expansion of the flag "zoo" would be even better! (As mentioned previously, you can hoist a veritable pet shop on your tops, what with the Year of the Dog, Happy Shipsmas Fish, Kitty Purrfürst, Fire Rooster and Corgi flags.) (And this has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact I happened to be born in the Year of the Pig. That is pure coincidence.) OINK! -
Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to BanzaiPiluso's topic in General Discussion
Just keep telling yourself that. Sure it does. It's what lets the Belfast keep burning you down, even if there is no spotter around. I disagree. Fiji shells do very little straight from the front, and she only has three torps. You need to make a crass mistake to catch all three of them. In fact, catching more than one is really only possible if you give so much broadside that you also catch a crapload of AP damage (aka "crass mistake"). Barring that, worst case is catching fire from Fiji secondaries after repairing the flooding. Have you even ever played these ships? -
Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to BanzaiPiluso's topic in General Discussion
Not in a full health Scharnhorst you can't, because you'll get burned down before you can hurt her. In fact I don't remember this working in any of my BBs at all. -
Giulio Cesare to be changed to T6.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to BanzaiPiluso's topic in General Discussion
I think that's because there's a greater quantity of speshuuls driving Belfast. Don't know why. I keep seeing people with a sub 50% win rate in that ship and you basically have to be on life support to achieve that. -
What do you like about patch 0.8.0?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
I like that there are no carriers in Ranked, and the Arms Race mode ensures I can easily stay in the competition till the next update without ranking out while grinding Hindenburg, a few other Tier X ships, and heaps of Commander XP. Ranked is the new Random. Here's to hoping carriers will stay out of Clan Battles for the foreseeable future, or ideally abolished altogether. -

CVs and gaming enjoyment in WoWs: Polls
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
I'm addressing this once and for all, since it came up several times. These are very simple questions which go to the very core of a) the rework and b) gaming as such: Is this fun? Do you enjoy this? Do you enjoy it more or less than what we previously had? Actually, no question could be any further from being biased. Especially since they concern players' personal preferences. Ergo, calling them biased must per se be regarded as a politically motivated ad-hominem smear by people who just don't like the result. -
I'm suppressing the initial response here and simply going with a polite "I'm not sure about that." The thing is, hardly anyone even understands the spotting mechanics in WoT. Just watch any Replay on youtube. More people do understand the current WoWs spotting mechanics. This is because they are far more straightforward and thus a lot easier to understand. This is a good thing because most players are casual players, and most of them are very bad and will never get appreciably better.

Contact customer support by way of writing a ticket. https://eu.wargaming.net/support/en/products/wows/help/8634/8635/8636/8637/ Attach the replay, for which they reasonably ask you to give the relevant time stamps. If it is sufficiently bad and/or often, players will receive a ban.
