You can only aim your guns across islands while a target behind the island is spotted. If no target is spotted, the game engine usually sems to assume you want to shoot the island, even in situations where the shell arcs could easily reach the actual spot behind the island you want to fire at. This is infuriating. It would be great if the "assumption" could at least be dropped for all the PvP game modes, since there are no shore targets anybody would reasonably want to hit in the first place.
  2. "In order to break the rules, you first have to know what they are" or just insert some other BS new age mantra of your choice ;-))) First they make this rule about penetration, see. Then they introduced the Kitakaze and Harugumo, give them no defensive AA when these ships were dedicated AA destroyers much like Kidd. Instead, they give them 100mm that pen like 152mm guns. The only thing 100mm about these things is their rate of fire, only more insane. Then they give us this official line about the smoke firing concealment penalty being related to gun caliber. Next: HMS Exeter, an upcoming Tier V 'heavy' cruiser, i.e. with 203mm guns. Being a British cruiser, it gets smoke. Now that wouldn't be fun if you could immediately spot her in that smoke just for firing her guns now, would it. So the concealment for firing in smoke from THIS ship is now suddenly just 6.1 km. Furutaka (same size guns) - 6.9km Omaha etc (smaller guns) - 6.9 km Krasny Krim (MUCH smaller guns) - 6.6 km Funniiieee.

    Naval Battle: Clans Competition

I have now understood how this event works. Several remarks: 1) As long as the port interface is so incredibly unresponsive and laggy, it is not a good idea to bury that "enable attempts" button deep in the Clans menu. Because if you do it this way, it takes four clicks to accomplish one thing (including leaving the Clan menu again for the Port screen so you can go on playing), and the laggy interface takes severals seconds to respond to three of those four, which is very annoying. 2) To minimise confusion, maybe don't use words like "Clan Battle" and "Combat mission" in the rules. These terms have a very specific and well-defined meaning in this game and that meaning is not what they are used to describe in the rules for this event. The description could maybe contain something like this: "The objective for the clan is to gather more stars than the opposing clan. Once players enter the competition by setting the attempts button to 'enabled', they get a star whenever meeting or exceeding the current minimum amount of base XP set for the respective ship class and nation in a Random, Co-op or Ranked Battle. Each time a star is earned, the minimum amount to gain the next star in the same ship class and nation is increased to the next level." Then probably best mention the starting minimum amount is 900 XP while using an example to explain the whole thing even better, so that clans can understand it is a good idea to let the weaker players start it off because earning stars will soon get a lot harder and the strongest players should therefore save their attempts until as late as possible. By and large.

Add Arms Race mode to the Training Rooms and make it so you can change commanders, check upgrades etc, basically have the normal port screen while in Training Room mode.

Should we maybe also compare the respective companies' marketing tactics? Long-term vision? And consistency? The careful way they tend to think things through?

Atlanta. Is she still worth it in 2019

This game is in a fair amount of disarray. Wargaming as a company have shown themselves to be hard to predict, and rarely in a good way. No premium ship is "worth it" under these circumstances until the marketing and game development show serious signs of stabilizing. Who is to say your new premium won't be nerfed or uptiered, or hit by some untested meta change or other, or powercrept by the next shiny toy, soon after you buy it? Just look what they have in the pipeline, Viribus Unitis, Exeter... These are the next Giulios and Belfasts, to be used as loot box bait after they get pseudo-"pulled from sales". I am sorry to be forced to spell it out like this but there you go.

    Ranked Battles & Arms Race

My beef is not so much with the Arms Race mode per se but the combination of Arms Race and Tier IX sucks bad, because of the ridiculously broken OP destroyers Black, Kitakaze and partially Jutland. In Arms Race mode, you feel quite helpless in a BB or cruiser if your DDs let you down while other DDs usually have a very hard time against the above mentioned OP ships if those are not sailed by complete rookies (which shouldn't happen at Tier IX but you know how it is.) As you all know, the season started off with the simultaneous introduction of the CV rework. This made me want to avoid Random battles completely while still bent on grinding the Hindenburg for the next CB season. So at that stage, I was basically resigned to trying to make a go of it whenever pitched against lesser opponents while usually being everybody's whipping boy. Then after the first CV nerf, Roon became playable in Randoms again so I switched to Fletcher as my best DD for Ranked and began to try ranking out in earnest. Despite a little initial success though, it became clear that I for one could not begin to counter the OP DDs in that ship if the opponents were even halfway competent, and the matchmaking was no great help at that stage either, pitching me frequently against two or three of them with none on my own team. This was of course a completely frustrating experience, punctuated by a mix of relief and more frustration with the Z-46, until I finally settled on countering the OP DDs in Seattle, and playing quite aggressively, focusing mainly on taking out the enemy DDs or getting them killed by team mates. This works OK so far in terms of win rate, although it still gets me killed quite often, and since I don't have a maxed-out captain on Seattle, it also doesn't generate Elite Commander XP (unlike Fletcher).
  11. As promised, here is the GUI improvements poll. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Fne4Y2QD49clhZamxK4kpBbXlnsy0UyanivvBsBQzSE/edit It is made with Google Forms rather than the forum poll function so participants can differentiate the different GUI improvement suggestions by urgency. I don't have any experience with Google forms so I hope this works out and you can even see it, because at one point I got the impression the link needed to be mailed to participants via Gmail... hoping that is not the case.

Poll: Which GUI improvements would you prefer to any new content?

OK second attempt. Hopefully deleted all the duplicates. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1zFxkw7NOuIFS27djCbgp7GpQ1z1CT7pYXX27xm4rt8o/edit So the weighting options now range from 1 - Much more important than new ships or other content 2 - Somewhat more important than new ships or other content 3 - About the same importance as other content 4 - I'd rather have new ships etc than this 5 - Unnecessary.

    Ranked Battles & Arms Race

If you can save a star on the losing team by coming first, then it would be only fair to also lose a star on the winning team by coming last. Especially in the current meta.

Autopilot mode: Can't shift waypoints after setting them, they jump erratically when trying to grab them with the mouse. The plotted course also is not rendered in the game, only on minimap.

Mounted camo does not show visually on the ship model in port. Only happened on Hindenburg so far, and only after two battles. Camo does show in battle. Up to then everything was fine. It occurs with all available camos.

    0.8.1 PTS - General Feedback

I've been using that ever since of course. But will there be a mod bringing back the old destruction sequence? I doubt it.
  18. Just a heads up, many of you are probably not aware that the games' sound design is about to change across the board. The minor changes of Update 0.8.1 include the following: "The music and sound environment in the Port and in battle has been improved: fresh audio design, sounds, and their synchronization with the visual effects in the Ports has been added. " This includes many gunfire sounds etc, while other sounds that maybe should have been replaced because they are horrible, are still in there. And while I like some changes, others I for one do not, like the ones to Nürnberg, whose unique guns' noise will apparently be substituted for a bland, generic sound effect. I'd like to encourage everyone to check out their old favourites and leave their feedback in the appropriate thread, even if it can take some grinding in boring Co-Op games for most ships below Tier VII.

    0.8.1 PTS - General Feedback

Well, not for the plebs anyway, just had a battle against an Audacious though. Ceterum censeo Hating the new destruction sequence more and more, the more often I see it. It is even more annoying than the dog tags. Seriously. Just what is the upside of rubbing their failure into players' faces? As with the dog tags, there is no upside. Not even increased satisfaction on the part of the player that blew me up, since they don't see any of this.

Which GUI improvements would you like to see?

Many players, streamers and CCs keep criticizing the GUI, but often without going into details. Let's stop the vague moaning and be constructive instead. Let's use this thread to gather suggestions, then I'll sift through them and make a poll, and after that I'll bring the most popular ones up in each and every Feedback thread about new patches on the live and test servers until they do something about it. Off the top of my head: More responsive, less laggy Port screen (what the hell is it WG make the CPU and GPU do while in port anyway to cause power consumption spikes?!) "Demount All" button for signal flags Saving different ship configurations for different battle types Make the Port "carousel" an actual carousel, similar to the Apple Mac thing for the applications on the bottom of the screen Less annoying or harsh "interface" sound effects, e.g. when calling up ships in port, redistributing commander skill points, revealing new collection items. Possibly configurable or individual interface sound effects, or at least different sound themes. Incorporate the "Return Captain to Ship" mod into the game client ?

    0.8.1 PTS - General Feedback

Regarding the Battle GUI, introducing distinct and different icons for radar, hydro and proxy spotting is another great and long overdue step in the right direction. Now please make it so that all the different detection icons are also being displayed at the same time whenever applicable. Also it would be great if you could include the "Score Timer" from the Aslain Mod Pack into the game client proper.

Port UI & Client Stability Improvements

The update is a step in the right direction since the Port has become somewhat more responsive, which is great! However, not only does the Port still cause suspicious spikes in CPU and GPU power consumption where frankly none must exist, considering there is no gaming activity going on whatsoever. There also remains an inexplicable degree of lag. So it would be great if you could keep prioritizing this issue ahead of any new content development. Moreover, the update once again fails to address concerns the player base has been voicing for quite some time, most of them for years. Chief among them is signal flag management. It would be great if you could at least add a basic „Demount All Signal Flags“ button which players have been asking for since the earlier stages of development. It can’t be that hard. This should ideally be implemented right away in Patch 0.8.1 before releasing the patch onto the live server. Other improvements which many players are bound to appreciate more than most of the changes implemented with the upcoming patch so far include adding hotkeys for switching the AA sector and deselecting auto-resupply by default for all items that cost gold doubloons , for example Type 59 camouflages. For the next update after this one, players consider features like signal flag profiles or presets a priority that they themselves can edit and save. This is also not a new idea and similar ergonomic, userfriendly concepts have been well established in many branches of the software industry for decades. There are a lot of conceivable solutions, from having simple signal flag presets for each of the different ship classes, to having full configuration presets for each individual ship and battle type which conceivably could include upgrades, modules and consumables as well, and possibly even let the player set limits of how much and which kinds of in-game currencies can be automatically expended. These should probably be introduced to new players in a gradual, step-by-step manner so as to not overwhelm them with the added complexity. Basically didacticize these changes and bind access to them to progress in account level. Another issue which players have been consistently asking for, over extended time periods, and which the Update once again fails to address, are consistent hot key bindings for consumables. As a first step, it would be great if you could maybe just make it so that consumables are no longer bound to specific slots but to specific keys, and bind the consumables directly to the keys instead of binding the slots to the keys. Or something. Regarding the inclusion of mods from the sanctioned Aslain Mod Pack into the game proper, players have been asking that the modifications "Return commander to his ship", “Score Timer” and “Extended Tech Tree” be included into the regular game client, the last of which would even get WG some marketing mileage since players could easily look up premium ships right in the game that they might be contemplating to buy. Regarding the Battle GUI, introducing distinct and different icons for radar, hydro and proxy spotting is another great and long overdue step in the right direction. Now please make it so that all the different detection icons are also being displayed at the same time when applicable.
