Update 0.8.7: French Destroyers – Part 2
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Can somebody please explain these matchmaking changes in terms that I can understand. Because Wargaming writers / Translators yet again failed at that task. Yes well, it will take these numbers into account and then DO WHAT? For Christ's sake?!!! So if I want to avoid being uptiered in Tier VIII ships, I should just not play my Tier X ships for 20 battles in between? How does that even make sense? What does the Tier of ships I play in OTHER games have to do with me and my Tier VIII matchmaking? How hard can it be? Why can primary school children describe things but not the people WG pays to do it? -
WG you have got to teach your players
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to T3ddyBear's topic in General Discussion
Yup. Just like schools should focus on manners rather than transfer of knowledge and skills. Because it's totally not the parents' job and also they need to finally recognize their main responsibility is solving social problems!!1 (By which I mean both WG and schools!) -
I think it was very early in the morning on the 14th.
-
Yeah that's just their own shortsightedness. I mean the other day it was posited that the market is basically saturated and the player base can't be expanded any further, which is why WG doesn't care about new player retention but old player retention. If that is true, then they obviously want to brand themselves as a trustworthy, fair and transparent business partner. If they did that, then they could easily afford to give refunds all over the place, in the confidence that the players, who are mostly regulars and are not walking away nor boycotting WG, would re-invest any refunded money back into the game and buy other toys. (I am of course a bit skeptical about the initial postulate regarding the demographics of the player base.)

The supercruisers would obviously be folded into the battlecruisers.

It was the first two weeks actually, ended August 14.

They should very definitely get their own ship type in the game, with its own matchmaking constraints. And most importantly, Asashio torps should be able to hit them.

WG you have got to teach your players
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to T3ddyBear's topic in General Discussion
A good way to start would be to put WG writers to work updating the very game manual, which is four years out of date (meaning it has never been updated, to the point where parts of it literally do more harm than good today.) The manpower is quite obviously available, but is instead being kept busy with needless busywork such as https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/general-news/rogue-wave-results/ -
Massive sustained CPU/GPU power consumption in port this morning
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a question in Tech Corner
This morning, while in port, for the first time the chassis fan of my system simply stayed on while in port. Aggravating constgant hum and all. It's not the world's most powerful PC and only has a passive cooled 1050 graphics board, but that was completely fine less than a year ago. And I did install that Geforce Experience which I'm not at all happy with since it is only needed for video conversion but still needs to be always on for some reason, and has made switching tasks a super slow pain. But still. This is new. What are you doing with my processors, Wargaming? Bitcoin mining? -
This CB season in a nutshell
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
It just goes to show how ridiculous it is to have ships with fast firing 100mm guns but give them magic shells that magically penetrate as though they were 50% bigger and FOUR TIMES AS HEAVY. Remove the magic HE pen from the IJN gun boat DDs already. It is even more ridiculous than the tankiness of the rework aircraft carriers. If that is even possible. -
Even today, aicraft carriers are "accidents waiting to happen". They carry lots of aviation fuel, ordinance, oxygen etc and carry out risky flight operations. In WW2, they were highly vulnerable to enemy gunfire etc. In contrast, in the game, they are currently more resilient than many BBs and exceedingly hard to kill, which is beyond ridiculous. Just saying. But keep up the good (re)work.

Rogue Wave: Summing up the Event!

While there is time to write up useless stuff like this, which nobody cares about, the very game manual is four years out of date. -
Rogue Wave: Summing up the Event!

On the one hand, the public is being asked to commiserate with gaming industry developers, some of which are being exploited to the point of burn-out. On the other, the WG PR department is kept busy by churning out drivel like this news bulletin. Two wildly different sources of outrage that at times feel difficult to reconcile. -
Coal ships - armory
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to BattleshipGunner's topic in Newcomers' Section
Well, considering you have a single Tier VI Battle at the moment, it will in all probability also take a bit of time until your skills allow you to do anything worthwhile with it in a high tier battle, especially a ship like Jean Bart which has a higher skill floor than some. -
Coal ships - armory
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to BattleshipGunner's topic in Newcomers' Section
Gigantically large for a DD => big target, terrible concealment plus clumsy handling. Does nothing well, nothing really stands out, and at the same time, it's sufficiently different from the good French DDs that you want a fairly different commander build. It does get the French 20% speed boost instead of the normal 8% but that's still not enough to really let you speed-tank. The one advantage over other French DDs is the smoke, which means it's not completely helpless against carriers. Big whoop. Really nothing at all ever makes me want to play this ship, except if they offer special incentives maybe. But they didn't even do that much in the French Destroyer event. I'd rather blow the coal on signal flags. -

Note how we haven't even started (in this thread anyway) to dump on how bad an idea it is to shove Colbert into the game in any shape or form. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to BattleshipGunner's topic in Newcomers' Section
Definitely don't get the Aigle. It is just garbage. As for the rest... I used to say if you want an OR, just buy her in the shop cause she is not so expensive and you can use the coal to get other things you can't get in the shop. These days, that last point is not so true any more and as regards the first one, I hate advising people to give WG any money since they broke the game with the carrier rework, and they keep saying and doing other very very silly things. So YMMV, mainly based on how much you actually like high tier gameplay. So before you get a Jean Bart, grind the Richelieu and see how you like that. If you then decide you must definitely have one of those on steroids, you can still blow the coal. -

If I need to read five pages of instructions to understand what a single new feature is about in an arcade MMO, it's bad game design.- 359 replies

Yeah well that would mostly only work for BBs, and it takes a crapload of time. BTDTNT -
Think they will Remove Friendly Fire ?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Sunleader's topic in General Discussion
If they remove friendly fire, I'll remove myself from the game. That would finally turn it into ridiculous water chequers devoid of any skill requirements. Any torp ship could just torp willy-nilly all over the place. Team damage has been reduced far too much as it is, with no floodings and fires any more and a massive reduction to torpedo damage, and basically no penalty besides the pink colour. I mean what do you have to do these days to actually get the mandatory Co-Op rounds? -
Aaand once again, as so very often, I wish you could turn off the stupid "Hall of Fame" points scoreboard after the end of the battle because it doesn't interest me in the least. Just another annoying click.
-
If my team had been even remotely interested in winning, this could have been it. 1906 base XP defeat. Then again, if my team had been remotely interested in winning, I'd probably not gone off damage whoring after five minutes in a huff.
