    Smolensk.

To re-iterate: Smolensk is perfectly fine, especially since you can easily convert steel 1:10 to coal so even more people can get it, even without buying any French Destroyers premium containers from the Arsenal weapons Chamber oh-you-know-what-I-mean for 750 doubloons per, which only seem to have a 25% chance of dropping 1500 coal. And also that makes it in no way pay-to-win whatsoever. And in general, HE spammers with smoke are a really really good addition to the game. So we should all just stop complaining and get on with it already. (And re: removal, I was told they left Belfast and Kutuzov in the shop for nearly a full year.)

    General Feedback

Clan Battles Season 06 Neighbours os still on. OK so it says in the patch notes they fixed the notification below popping up all the time. Which is true - sort of. Instead, yesterday, it said something about a time slot one hour earlier. Turns out the latest patch had apparently set it back to the Russian time slot as default. Which is particularly bad for our clan since we usually don't even have enough players on the server to form a CB division before half past nine, although they usually do stay until the regular end of the EU session at 11 pm. So we lost a full hour of CBs last night, which is a lot for a small clan like ours.

    up to date smolensk review?

Yeah that I'd like to see. I mean, a great many people don't seem to understand that NTC is not for actually regrinding whole lines but for whales who can just free-XP them five times in a single go to harvest their Colbert with one single win per ship. Now imagine the sound of these scrubs actually regrinding five lines, finally getting his Colbert (or whatever ship it is by then) in next March or September or whatever, only to find it nerfed into the ground. (If anything, it will be powercrept by things even more OP. My guess is by something Russian, like a radar Kremlin or a Stalingrad buffed where it doesn't take fires any more or something.) (Which is the chief reason I blew almost all my steel on Smolensk yesterday. Why grind coal for four months, only to find out it has already been powercrept to death by then?)

    Phrasing

"Boom!" All I'm saying is "Support that target!" By which I mean to say 1) targets are not supported, they are always enemies in English and need to be fought. and 2) The game has a lot of poor phrasing which I think is often caused by poor, unidiomatic translations. Which is about as urgent (and probably as low on the list of priorities) as the outdated game guide (manual) which hasn't been updated in four years.

    UI Improvements

Another thing is still missing even though the player base has been asking for it for years on end. To the contrary, it has yet again been made worse with the introduction of Smolensk where the smoke is in the fourth slot while everybody of course expects it in third. We need Consistent Hot Key Bindings for the Consummables.

How do you actually play a Battleship?

These days? Look at Matchmaking Monitor, try to guesstimate which DD is the least likely to screw up, and position behind that one if at all possible. I used to enjoy playing DDs though never being really good at most of them, but these days I mostly play most of them out of pure self defense, because you're just so dependent on them. The other day I had a really super Massachusetts game when announcing in chat right at the start, either on North or Northern lights, that I was going to push B just to annoy people. That got a Shima player on our team to screen me the whole game, never typing a word. Just screening, spotting, torping, smoking in a single fluid chain of motions, never missing a beat while benefitting effortlessly from the two Gearings strapped to my ship. A super rare exception.

It's a premium. Premiums don't get nerfed. The End.

Also I mean you have to give the WG developers some credit for trying not to go completely overboard with Smolensk. They have built in a very glaring weak spot so it isn't that OP. They have put the smoke screen into the fourth consumable slot instead of the third one, so people hit T but just think they smoke up when they actually started their hydro or defensive AA, respectivly.

11 campers losing in 10 minutes is the new meta

But they are trying! Trying so hard! First they introduced Belfast and Kutuzov, then when those got powercrept, they gave us Asashio, and Kitakaze / Harugumo, and then the carrier rework, and now Smolensk / Colbert! All of which are really great additions to the game! Honestly what more do you expect from them? They're only human after all.

What was your worst mistake of the day?

Not blowing all my riches on Smolensk first thing in the morning but only after completing the daily chains & containers. Although that did save me a modicum of steel.

    Soviet Submarine SPecial Captain

And here I thought you were going to suggest the dude that sank the Gustloff and massacred 9,400 people.

AA mod 2 (slot 3) in 0.8.7. Worthwhile?

Apparently it is. And not just that, but also Defensive AA Mod 1. Remember the time, eons ago, when Flamu refused to share his Jean Bart build, even though he was only reviewing the WiP version, because he thought that ship was too toxic? Good times. This now seems to signal his pivot toward the assessment that the game needs to be made as unfun and toxic as possible, to make users boycott or abandon it en masse and thus hurt WG's bottom line until they eventually come to their senses. In a more constructive spirit, let me once again remind everyone you can exchange your steel 1:10 for coal if you want Smolensk and lack a bit of currency.

And don't forget you can exchange steel for coal 1:10 so GET IT NOW! We need to help WG make this game as toxic as possible so maybe they finally see reason PLAY IT AS INTENDED!1 Because smoked HE spammers are a really really good addition to the game, according to Wargaming, specifically @Sub_Octavian.

No deadline is given for all the Research Spin-off challenges. I'm assuming they run out with the release of the next patch 0.8.8.

    2750 base xp.

So this is what it took. Harvesting a few Saturday morning noobs. Sadly, by now, I think the Twitch mission had actually expired.
  16. You should not get your hopes up, because this will never be a submarine simulation or even a decent submarine arcade game. It's just a gimmick they are pulling out of their noses because they are otherwise out of ideas and it's bound to be worse - much worse - than the aircraft carriers (which are the definition of bad.)

    Permanent camouflage

Well do you actually have the Guepard in port? Besides the inventory, it will only appear on the "Exterior" port menu when Guepard is selected because you can only put it on that ship and no other.

    Research Support Bundles

They'll never live down the spreadsheet thing. Or the whole St Petersburg summit for that matter.

    Thank you wargaming

While at the same time, in World of Tanks, people can even still ping the map after they were killed.

Can we get the new French captain for free?

You don't get anything in this game for free. You pay for everything, even if it is "just" your time on Wargaming's servers, which is actually the most valuable thing you have to give, and absolutely crucial to their business model.
  21. OK so apparently you can still do the Marine National combat missions, which give 250 Republic tokens each, until Monday. Only you no longer have to wait for greedy rare ship drops from lootboxes but you can just grind the necessary French DDs from the tech tree. Never mind that the latest AA change drove the CVs in hordes onto the server, which are the hard counter for smokeless French DDs. (I don't even think the WG types didn't think that through. I think they are just sadists. Either that, or this is their way of getting back at us for pointing out all their fails. But never mind.) Aaaanyway. The economics of the thing. Luckily, I got a Jaguar from a greedy rare lootbox drop at what I laughingly considered the last minute back then, so I only need some 18K XP on that thing. Then it's 64K for the Guepard and 110K for the Le Fantasque, some 192K XP in total. Plus 38K for the essential Hull modules, which means I can't currently just Free-XP all the way through these ships after recently splurging the reserves on an Alaska, because hey, you never know for what you might need one, right? Right. So we need to grind 230K XP for the ships alone in these four days. Realistically, there is no chance to maintain my 80% Jaguar win rate, and even with premium camos of some sort, the average XP should drop off somewhat from the 3.5 K on that ship. So let's say 3K on average, for 77 battles total, 13 hours of my life that I'm never getting back, while at the same time blowing through 77 premium camos. And, let's not forget, 600K silver plus 112K Elite Commander XP for three transfers of the 14-pt commander. These are the expenses. Now for the returns: 3x250 +220 =970 Republic tokens, for roughly 11.5 million credits (which I'm focusing on because of the - probably - upcoming Tier X ship Supercontainer drop for the WoWs Anniversary in September) plus maybe 80k average from the earnings, for another 6 million. Or 138 French Riviera camos, the look of which I like. OTOH I know I can average at least 300k credits per game in Asashio, which doesn't need premium camos to do it either. So at least 40% more revenue if I only played Asashio for four days straight. Going out for a walk now.

This is what I get when, for once, trying to be a bit subtle about the points I make.

    AA Defense Changes

Considering the French BBs are usually the fastest on their respective Tiers, like both TGier VIs. Also of course mostly from the DD perspective. But even in a Colorado, although you cannot strictly run away, you can kite, which of course puts you into an inherently stronger position over any pursuer. Assuming you didn't crassly misplay earlier. None of which is any prerequisite against rocket planes, they just blap DDs and massively chunk them every time without counterplay. Only if the Lyon is close enough, which it can only really do if its positioning is better than the opponent's. Of course. While the rocket planes can super quickly position themselves anywhere they want and reposition super quickly any time. Of course. Seriously, if you struggle against Lyons, you're doing it wrong.

Research Centre: Cheapest line to regrind XP/Credits wise?

Dude, the fact you're even thinking about that means regrinding is not for you. It's like wondering about a Ford Mustang's fuel consumption or something. If that is something you need to think about, just get a small Hyundai instead.

    AA Defense Changes

Yeah and I also really miss this one.
