Which ship (new - not yet released in WoWs) would you instantly buy and why?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Here's a fantasy ship that would tickle my fancy, I call it "Soviet Cossack". Premium Tier 8 DD with two Smolensk turrets, choice between heal or smoke, insane concealment and (wait for it) 350-ish dps of continuous AA damage. -
hayate Hayate vs. Smalland?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
Smaland speed boost is basically a short burst of afterburner, base duration only 60 seconds but it gives 30%, which is 10% more than the French even. So it's really all geared to ambushes. Spurt out, gun down and (hopefully) get away. Which would even be sort of apt if the original had had CODAG propulsion or something along those lines. It is sadly not a magic trick though, unlike some other mechanics in this game. Especially if the opponents are prepared for it. Still waiting for a hack to activate those Saab Robot 08 guided missiles... as it is, they are sadly only mounted in port but some damn clod just keeps forgetting to take them along on patrol. -
Client destabilizing?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
I used to have a graphics overheating issue but fixed it by installing a fan. The card is actually meant for passive cooling but that big heat sink turned out insufficient for WoWs on its own. Fan is running continuously and not even the furmark can drive the temp into crashing regions these days... and also I would then expect this to happen every session, at more or less the same time, just as it did back then in the before-fan days. -
hayate Hayate vs. Smalland?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
Friesland is fairly nice but gets only very few carrier battles, probably because it has one of the best counterplays against carriers (smoke PLUS almost acceptable AA.) When there is no carrier around and the enemy DDs are stealthy, and maybe not the type of complete muppets that just amble into your hydro, things can get challenging in a very unstealthy DD without torps. I wouldn't miss it though, just wish it was Tier VIII. -

Isolated Hallands maybe. If they are poorly played. -

That is a very complicated way of writing "I don't have the slightest clue how to use Halland and Smaland right". -
hayate Hayate vs. Smalland?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Mad_Dog_Dante's topic in General Discussion
Halland and Smaland are not. Play them right and you can at least put up a fight, even against skilled CVs, and punish noob CVs so hard they leave you alone for entire matches. Or else keep harvesting their noob planes and neutralize them that way. That's not remotely what this thread was about. What I do suggest is not paying hard-earned resources for being made a griefer's victim, let alone real money, especially when there is a great alternative. -
hayate Hayate vs. Smalland?

So? Any semi-skilled CV will just grief someone else while the smoke expires and then blap the Hayate while the next smoke is on cooldown. -
Recommend me a Tier VIII premium cruiser
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to StarbuckTheThird's topic in General Discussion
Buying any premium ship is paying money for being griefed, since they are all just CV fodder. This goes doubly for Tier VIII ships where you get the most CV battles against some of the most OP CVs in the game. And on general principle, nobody should pay WG any money at all anyway until they correct course on the grave error that is the CV rework. What you should be doing if you enjoy cruiser gameplay is save up Free XP and get 1) Alaska 2) Ägir. They are Tier IX which gets the least CV battles. And all you have to do is play the game and not spend Free XP. -

Oh come on, they are not even selling much in the way of camos when that would make them Satan Loot Crate money all around the calendar. Nobody can legitimately accuse them of being that greedy.

I can see you have fathomed the depths of WG sadism, pardon the pun. -
Whats your Controls for Consumables now ? ^^

There's been a whole thread already you know ;-) -
It is very easy to deal with HE spammers: Do not sail into range, or if you are in it, just sail out of it. In other words, your positioning sucks. Same with Yamato. The larger issue here is the ever decreasing standard of DD gameplay, which is happening because of the CV rework. You get fewer and fewer DDs, and the ones you do get tend to be worse and worse regarding skills and knowledge. This is bad for everyone except CVs because the single most important factor is information, mostly information about the enemy deployment, and we tend to get less and less of that. It's one of the reasons I all but stopped playing BBs altogether even though it's probably the class I am best at. If you intend to stick with it, you need to find ways to deal with sucky DDs on your team.

Not using Kremlin.

The reason people are skipping low and mid tiers with Free XP are CVs. Removing that option and forcing them to grind their way up the ladder as CV fodder would drive them out completely. The only thing that makes sense is removing the root cause instead of trying to doctor the symptom.

DD Hatsuharu can't get the hang of it
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to bloodlord2510's topic in General Discussion
Dude, on Tier VI, you are getting 70% CV battles, where you're food anyway, no matter what you do, as long as the CV has at least minimal skills. This is not a good time to start the game and especially not playing DDs, except for the high tier European ones. Just stick to CVs as much as possible and use those to grief together enough Free XP to unlock Tier XI ships. That's where the CV ratio gets almost bearable and some ships almost get something resembling a counterplay option at least against poor CV players. If that's too boring for you, maybe look for a different game. -
WHY don't they just sell more expendable camos?!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
Seriously guys, it is a no-brainer. Hello? WG? Do you like free money? Gamers are suckers for cosmetics. An avid resister against the CV rework, I'm completely objected to giving WG any kind of money AT ALL but if they sold Shadow Lurkers and Summer camos, even I would get weak. I can understand there is a need to reserve some of them for other kinds of incentive, not the least since playing time spent on their servers by F2P players is exactly as important to their business model as selling pixels. But come on. All you get in the Armory - and not even for money but for hard-earned coal - are six very dated expendable ones, one of which at least gives a lot of extra credits but most of which look ghastly. Especially the puke-coloured Frosty Fir Tree. And the big collection sold in the premium store is way too expensive since it is filled with filler you don't want, much like "bundled" options when buying cars and such. (The other option would be to give players a choice of camo when winning them in in-game events, Supercontainers etc. I mean it is the year 2020 after all.) -
Back after years: What's different?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to _Flyto_'s topic in General Discussion
They "reworked" the CVs, which ruined everything. All other raging outrageousnesses that people used to get worked up about - low tier sealclubbing, epicenter, torping from the second row, Belfast, Russian Bias, Kamikaze, P2W, what have you - everything pales in comparison. The only playable tier remaining for non-AA ships is Tier IX where you "only" get around 36% of carrier battles on the EU server and they are sometimes uptiered (not that it helps much). Even dedicated AA ships can be blapped at will by semi-competent CV players, they have been turned into a pure, dedicated, low skill-floor griefing tool for low-skill griefers. On Tiers VI and VIII, it's approaching 70% and on Tier IV, 100% while no low Tier ships have any AA at all worth mentioning, and no other form of counterplay. They even put CVs into Ranked and Clan Battles. It has gotten so awful that even the Clans have united. There is an organized protest movement (https://discord.gg/rnJvyG) and WG are squishing these naive protesters like bugs. Enjoy! -
WHY don't they just sell more expendable camos?!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Well, for me it's a case of "so ugly it's cute again". That Jimmy Buffett Floriduh vibe.... it would fit in perfectly with dastardly plans like running SE on a Hindenburg to lure others into thinking your a complete slacker moron. That kind of thing. Anyway the only thing keeping me from doing that kind of thing is I only got five of them and no way of getting more. Adding to the mystery is that WG have totally figured out that crap in World of Tanks, where camos don't even give a (huge) performance benefit but instead, players have a wide range of options to customize them for themselves. And they pay through their noses. -

HMS Dido because it would have Halland AA at Tier VII where it is actually needed. Atlanta 2.0 <sings>R@pe r@pe r@pe your planes, r@pidape your plaaaaanes (to the tune of "Row row row your bote) (Or of course any Aegis DD would also be fine. zzzzzzZZZZZ-POP <= SAMs launched, squad gone, next please) -
DD Shinonome - WAHT THE HELL ? !
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to NiKuTa's topic in General Discussion
It's a super great little ship. A slightly detuned premium Kagero at Tier VI. The only reason I don't play it all the time are the [CENSORED] [CENSORED] [CENSORED] [CENSORED] [CENSORED] CVs. -
Combat Missions in Update 0.9.8
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Found the second bug in the Epochs campaign. Task 3 Mission 5 also seems broken. I got a progress report on the scoreboard even though only coming 5th, which is not among the top 3. Quality control? Proofreading? Once more, this game is in a state as though WG let unpaid interns do the work, much as they let unpaid fans run the forum. -
Shells STILL falling short
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Don't know about recently... I didn't notice it so much last patch, possibly cause I play mainly Halland these days. But then there was a lot of snowflaking, I did all my ships on both serves, maybe 200 of them, and did not notice then.
