Damage control party modification 1
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Camperdown's topic in General Discussion
Because, as with all percentage-based perks, the longer the base value, the greater is the gain in absolute numbers. This means that if you have the Hydro Mod on a British destroyer, the hydro is available across wide stretches of the whole game. Base action time on RN DDs is 180 seconds and the mod knocks that up to 216 seconds. That is approaching four minutes. Also you can look at it this way, it saves you three points for the Superintendent captain skill. Three hydro pops means 3x216s, plus 2x120s of cooldown. Plus there is usually no need to fire up the hydro before any torpedoes on enemy ships can even be loaded, saving you at least another minute or three at the start of the battle. That's already 16 minutes even if you use all the hydros back-to-back. Most games are long over by then. -
The Key Battle: Even More Rewards!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Yeah this seems needlessly complicated and strange. I don't think it will become a classic, unlike the early Halloween events or the Filth harvesting thing. On the plus side, WG at least seems to have taken the opportunity to introduce some futuristic weird space weapons this time around. Now please give me the guided Saab Robot 08 antiship missile on muh Smaland already. -
Damage control party modification 1
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Camperdown's topic in General Discussion
It's straight-up useless most of the time. It will allow you to do things like damage-con a bit sooner when, say, you're on fire and have some torps coming your way that you will not be able to beat, and that way preserve some health while at the same time avoid flooding from the torp hit. Or when rounding a corner that will get you unspotted while disengaging from HE spammers. But these occasions are so far and few in between, and the gain in survivability is so low, and depends so much on spot-on timing, that you are usually better off to spend the coal on something else. Hydro Mod on any hydro ship but especially English DDs. And Lo Yang. Radar Mod on most Radar ships. Engine Boost Mod on any ship with engine boost but especially on Georgia, French ships and torpedo DDs. These are the ones where you get the biggest bang for the coal. Even the Spotter Plane Mod and Smoke Generator Mod have their uses, although mostly for specialized builds in competitive play. But the DCP Mod ist just a waste of pixels, almost as worthless as the Def AA Mod. -
question to devs Are there any Plans for T11 and T12
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Sunleader's topic in General Discussion
Well, Tier XI already exists, even if there are only four ships in it... -
Help with my stats. Want to improve.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Harvin87's topic in General Discussion
Just switch to aircraft carriers. -
Now that there are Mercenaries in Clan Battles, Wargaming should make it possible to transfer funds from the clan treasury to the mercs. Also the Clan Treasury should be expanded to contain credits, Elite Commander XP and Free XP. That way, the mercs would not have to use their own resources to, say, transfer commanders, purchase / upgrade ships etc that they might need in order to fit in with the tactical concept of the clan, and the like.

How is your "TimeTable" for obtaining "Coal" ships via "Armory"...
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Well they have nerfed the Smol. Don't think they will nerf Stalin but on the off chance... also there was another snowflake supercontainer which could at least partially have reimbursed me... [insert more excuses of choice] -
How is your "TimeTable" for obtaining "Coal" ships via "Armory"...
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I try not to obtain any kind of resource ships without a coupon, which would mean to waste a great deal of in-game currency ground out over extended periods of time. I only d eviate from this rule for completely OP ships such as Smolensk or Stalin, to get in on the fun before WG nerfs them to death. Certainly not gonna do that for any of the current offers, especially since I promised myself to go through with the Satan Lootbox boycot this year (so no need to fill the port in an attempt to force toxic-ship drops.) I might be tempted if they offered Mainz for coal, or some really evil Tier VIII AA monster. -
Remapping Consumable Hotkeys - what did you change?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
Hi, after pestering WG for years and years about it, we now have finally been given the ability to remap the consumable hotkeys. Turns out even with that new ability, it is impossible to devise a 100% consistent hot key system, what with all the different permutations of consumables on all the different ships. (Has there been a thread on that already? While I was still... "away on that farm upstate"?) From some Reddit posts, it is possible to minimize the number of "exceptions" by mapping the following consumables to five dedicated keys: Damage Control Smoke, Radar or Main Battery Reload Booster (MBRB) Heal Spotter Plane / Fighter Plane or Engine Boost or Torp Reload Booster (TRB) Hydro / Def AA Apparently, this will work well over 90% of all ships with only about two dozen 'exceptions': Ships that mount both Radar and Smoke: Belfast, Black Ships that mount both Hydro and DefAA: Friesland, Ochakov, Duca degli Abruzzi, Duca d'Aosta, USN light cruisers (Worcester, Seattle, Cleveland, Helena, Dallas, Montpellier), Salem (if you actrually pick Hydro over Radar) Ships that mount both Engine Boost and a plane of some sort: Georgia, Richelieu, Gascogne, Champagne, Alsace Ships that mount both Engine Boost and Fighter Plane: Charles Martel, Algerie, DeGrasse, Yahagi That said though, turns out there is yet another consideration, namely that this would leave many ships with "hotkey gaps". If you followed the above remapping system as strictly as possible, it would mean, for example, to leave the T key empty on the European DDs while moving the Heal to Y, Engine Boost to U and Def AA to I. I'm still wondering if I should subject my sensitive, aging and slowly deteriorating brain to that trouble. It would also mean to remap a lot more ships. Until now, it was mainly about fixing the most glaring traps that used to throw me off the most: Smolensk. While every smoked DD has the smoke in the T slot, that's where they put the hydro/Def AA on the Smolensk. I honestly don't know why that throws me for a loop on the Russian cruiser. I'm fine with the default layout on the English light cruisers of T - Heal, Y - Hydro, U - Smoke. But the fact is, it did throw me for a loop when I first got the ship, and it threw me again after taking a few months' break from it. I kept triggering the hydro, thinking I was smoking up, and wondering why I got blapped. Swedish European DDs. Default layout is Engine Boost on T and Heal on Y. I used to constantly trigger the heal when intending to hit Engine Boost. IIRC it is in the Y slot on every other nation's DDs. The only other exception coming to mind would be the Kidd but I run Def AA there instead of Engine Boost.. Also the icons used to look much more similar when these ships were introduced (which also kept throwing me for a loop on the Kidd years ago, I used to forget about Def AA mid battle and wonder why the engine failed to get boosted.) UK Heavy Cruisers. Basically every BB that gets a heal and a spotter plane, a very common combination, has the heal on the T and the plane on the Y. With the English heavy cruisers, Wargaming chose the reverse in one of their baffling moves. -
Remapping Consumable Hotkeys - what did you change?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Ok so I'm finally through remapping all the hotkeys on all the ships, I have all the tech tree ships except most of the new US BBs, and loads of prems and specials besides. I tried to apply the system outlined in the first post, Hotkeys R T Y U I Damage Con Smoke Heal Spotter Plane Hydro Radar Fighter Defensive AA MBRB Engine Boost Torp Reload Booster The main exception I encountered, and which I take exception to, concerns all Japanese DDs that can have the torpedo reload booster and smoke at the same time - Haru, Kita, Asashio, Akizuki and Yuudachi. These all need an alternative TRB key. On the other hand, the main battery reload booster mainly concerns French DDs and cruisers, which I'm a lot less partial to, so I am pondering just swapping those default slots. The other issues were: Yahagi is the only ship to mount both Fighter and Engine Boost; Dallas, Helena, Duca and Cleve always have both Hydro and Def AA; Black and Belfast have both Smoke and Radar; Gascogne and Georgia are is the only ships to mount both Spotter Plane and Engine Boost; Seattle and Worcester mount both Hydro and Def AA and plus they also get the heal. This makes the US light cruisers a nightmare for the OCD crowd cause you would of course use the empty Y spot on the mid tier ones for the Def AA but then that is occupied by the heal on the high tier ones so you need in fact two alternative keys for Def AA on the different ships of that line. "Luckily" (ha ha) it is a rather inconsequential consumable these days that anybody would drop in a second anyway for literally anything else since it is so very useless. -
CPU going into overdrive in Port

All joking aside, you are of course aware that Wargaming is a subdivision of Cambridge Analytica. -
Is there a way to play stealth DDs these days?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to _Flyto_'s topic in General Discussion
1) Stick to Tierr IX which gets significantlier fewer carrier battles - "only" about 33%. 2) Some people may not have found it yet but there are minimap settings "show last known position" and "show ship names". Every smart player is using those. So if you even get spotted ONCE, even less skilled CV players have a fix to start their search for you once they decide to go after you. Even if they ignored you before, this starting point makes it a lot easier for them to come back to you. So what you want to do is avoid like hell to get spotted early, even if it means to hang back with the BBs or circle back at the start and hide behind heavier AA ships. Chances are at some point the CV will start attacking elsewhere. That doesn't change the need for the class to be removed from Random, Ranked and Clan battles of course, since it completely breaks the core concept of searching for openings and outsmarting oppenents, and hands an easy-to-use, sadistic griefing tool to even the least skilled of players. -

It's because WG are using your rig to grind bitcoins. Let them have that little bit of extra cash on the side. After all, the game is FREE TO PLAY! -
Clan Battles: "Northern Waters" Season
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Aircraft carriers do not belong in Clan Battles and need to be banned. The very least WG could do was only admit Tier VI or VIII carriers to Tier X clan battles, and instead of DDs, not BBs. -
Mercs in CBs: OUTSTANDING!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Yeah my discord didn't shut down when they thought it had, and that's when the burping started .... kinda universal language that I DID understand -
Introducing mercs to Clan Battles is about the best thing WG ever did, methinks. Whenever the losers of muh own clan can't be bothered to lift their sorry asses, I just hang out my shingle and get invites. And have the most interesting times! Going with a Hungarian clan right this moment, they just use two Repus and a bunch of Russian cruisers to rush the cap. It's like a little road trip! All over Europe!

Yeah those bots don't care at all where their torps go. -
Black friday, and why buying containers seems detrimental to me.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Iskarioth's topic in General Discussion
Giving WG any money at all is detrimental, full stop. It just reinforces them in their erroneous ways, viz. the CV rework. Gives them the idea everything is fine and dandy. -
Mercs in CBs: OUTSTANDING!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
I mean personality-wise, I usually have no problem to just go with the flow and do what I'm told in these situations... and it did cost me 250K elite commander XP cause I never use muh Repu and needed to transfer the captain first, and then after two games they let me choose a different BB so I went to muh Kremlin but the Kuznetsov was still on the Vlad from Ranked and I forgot that his talents don't work in CBs... and it could easily have cost me a few million credits as well, had I not used the most recent discount to upgrade the Repu, just in case... But hey, you only live once. With an open mind, I mean what is the worst that could happen? I've had a leader of one of my own clans shout and blame me for his own mistakes, and another kick me out a clan out of pure spite and bad faith. The Hungarians were positively charming, I probably got lucky. (And didn't understand most of what they were saying.) But still. -

Nevsky obviously needs a major buff. -
So is there any kind of ressource or database by now where you can look up all the nerfs and buffs that any given ship has gone through in the course of its deployment in the game since it was released? Like, without going to the trouble of painstakingly combing through all the patch notes since its release yourself?

History of balancing measures?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I don't expect this from WG. We have a saying in Germany that goes, "Nothing good ever happens unless you do it yourself." I was therefore going to suggest we just start our own player community Wiki on fandom.com and thereby crowdsource the project. However, that's not even necessary cause that independent fandom community wiki already exists! https://world-of-warships.fandom.com/wiki/New_York You know what you have to do, people! -
On the NA server maybe. Cooperation was the norm there. On the EU server, it was constant backstabbing.

Client destabilizing?

Also does anybody know why the Double Strike sound effect keeps "going bad"? It used to be a distorted mess for a few patches maybe a year ago, and I suspected it was just my local copy of the sound file in question, feared SSD corruption even back then, and I wasn't using the WGC back then (and don't even know if it even had the "check and repair" function back then, which seems to simply re-download any corrupted files it detects these days and is a really good addition.) But then, I seem to recall, some streamer or youtube video also had the distorted mess. And now it's been broken AGAIN for a few weeks, but with a fairly recent complete re-install. And I don't hear it very often and can certainly not trigger it on demand, so even if I do a check and repair now, I couldn't say if it fixed that specific sound. But I find it odd that it is always just the double strike sound and never any other "user interface" effects. It's almost as if they had a corrupted copy at WG and it somehow kept accidentally being slipped into the new patches for some reason. -
This patch and I think also the previous one already (0.9.8), I'm getting not just weekly client freezes but complete crashes (mid-game, not in port) that can only be resolved by hard-resetting the whole PC. Some other programs may keep running in these instances, others don't. In any event, the task manager (Windows 7 64 bit) is unable to terminate the WoWs client in these freezes, as well as several other apps. Sometimes I can get to the emergency shutdown screen (or whatever it's called) using Ctrl-Alt-Del, but when selecting a soft reboot there, it never happens. So in the end I have to "pull the plug", so to speak (hold down the reset button a few seconds). After which, not just ALL the WoWs settings stored on the PC are lost, which take )(&/%)(/%/ forever to reset since they include the )(/%&)&% minimap circles which need to be reset for every (/)&$%(& ship INDIVIDUALLY. No - even the settings of OTHER programs are lost, like for instance specifically Freecell (an old Windows solitaire style game). I find that remarkable, and remarkably annoying. Been even running diagnostics on the drives, to no avail, because I thought the SSD might be dying. Which it doesn't seem to be. Anyone else have that?
