[POLL] Have you played new "Key Battle" Halloween event battle type? Do you like it?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
So they changed the requirements for the recurring Daily Missions chain so the first three are now actually damage-based and can be done in Key Battles. So that's good. Also in contrast to my earlier lies, you can actually buy three one Premium days three times for 25K Battle points each in the armory. So it's at least not downright quite as detrimental for F2P, only although still needlessly confusing. And they do miss out on the elite commander XP though. I keep wondering just why it is that WG is so determined to lock off one of the biggest remaining sources of gaming enjoyment behind so many obstacles. -

It will not, though. This is the same kind of fraud that leads to people still to believe that BS about the "American Dream". Sure, anyone can make it - but not everyone will. Only a tiny fraction will. And in this case, only a fraction of the time. -

Frankly, I'm trying to cut back on WoWs, but what little I do play needs to contribute to the daily mission chain because I always want more port slots. So the Halloween event is out for that reason alone. Correct me if I'm wrong but it yields too little or no base XP. In addition, on my F2P account on the NA server, I'm in a position to unlock three more Tier X ships soon and would like to be able to buy those in time for the next Snowflaking. For that, I need to earn 17 million more credits during the upcoming American coup/civil war in the next two months, besides making up for the money lost in the Tier IX grinds. But the Halloween event yields too few or no credits. As far as I am aware it will also not yield any premium days. -
Why dont WG fix the "Techtree"
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Ronchabale's topic in General Discussion
Dude, it took them three, four years just to get around to giving us a Demount-all-Signals button and let us remap consumables. And they even botched up one of those. -
Naval Battle If it were possible for players to clear multiple bars at once, then this event would be less frustrating. Like, automatically clear all the bars up until the highest one below your battle result, and lose the corresponding number of attempts. As it is now, if you happen to have a really good result but the next bar is still the first or second, it just feels as though it "goes to waste". Then trying again and closely missing increases the frustration further.

Update 0.9.10 – American Battleships: Part 2
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Also what happens the first time this patch (I think) is that at the end of a battle, the last image from the previous battle is shown for a split second. WG it is really high time you introduced some form of quality assurance. All of these minor issues are super easily avoided just by following long established best practice in software development, it's known for literally decades. -

On the naval battles page, the ship type icons are missing above the columns now. -
I can think of several. The latest one was allowing mercenaries into Clan Battles. There was the Demount All Signals button (although they botched it after making us wait for it three, four years for no good reason that I can see.) Also the addition of the "Report Abuse" function to the port chat context menu. Small things like that. They even worked on the Epicenter mode. Remember how everybody used to hate it like the plague? Honestly I couldn't say if it is really better now or if it just gets so overshadowed by the CV rework that it does not even register any more. But the fact is, they did something. They also removed stealth-shooting, they removed the kind of matchmaking where only one team had a carrier... they nerfed the Wall of Skill... now you might say these were just corrections of very obvious mistakes that should have been complete no-brainers to avoid in the first place. And you would be right. However, everybody and every company makes mistakes. The important thing, and the one you are judged on, is how you deal with them.

Hardly ever did WG balance a ship or mechanic or anything else based on what the most skilled players can do with it (even though exactly that is actually the best practice in the gaming industry.) I think the one time they might have done that was when they introduced strafing and manual drops to the old RTS carriers.

No, I'm not using that, only the Aslain mod pack. -
What ship for coal and for free xp
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to bardic2000's topic in General Discussion
Anything not on Tiers II or IX will get between 50 and 100% carrier battles, and none but Smaland will be able to put up anything even resembling meaningful counterplay if the CV player is at least semi-skilled. So it means blowing your hard-won resources on being griefed most of the time. -
Return of the lag spike

OT return of the crappy programming, my latest PC freeze has - almost - convinced me WoWs may not even be to blame for the freezes and crashes I have been experiencing lately: The WoWs client was not even running when it happened. However. Why is it that the WoWs client was reset to default again after the freeze and hard-reset, even though the WoWs client was not even running when my PC froze? Is that really necessary? I think not. It is not even necessary to store my settings off site like the new consumable re-mappings to avoid that. Just store them in a sodding file that does not get deleted when the PC freezes and needs to be hard-reset! None of my office docs got deleted! None of my videos and pictures either! How hard can it be? It always takes ages to sodding restore the settings! -
Cross-dropping was never gone because since the CV rework, a single carrier can cross-drop on its own, as long as the squad does not get completely annihilated between the first pass and the second approach.
-
Also OT after action scoreboard, it would be really good if you could make sure that all the missions and their progress show up there. Any Twitch missions for example, and others that were similarly out of the ordinary, often were just not there in the past. Also - and I seem to have suggested this before at some point - it would be good to add a heading to the combat missions on the combat mission screen. For example, I have no clue what this one is. Anniversary of some naval battle? Promo event? Something else?
-
While on the topic of eliminating dull, repetitive tasks than can easily be automated from human existence through basic computer programming, here's an idea: If a star won for the Naval Battle were to show up on the after-action scoreboard, along with the progress in missions etc, then players maybe wouldn't have to check the naval battles menu quite as often. Also you could just add another "Enable" switch to the port screen.

So, WG does have a sense of humor after all...

Bingo. -
It all pales compared to the giant turd that is the CV rework.

Devs fix the the damn map border abuse

As long as people believe that, and keep telling each other there is nothing to be done about it, and keep giving WG money and time, then it remains a self-fulfilling prophecy. -
Why can't I disable Direct Messages?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to ShamanT's topic in General Discussion
If people like AshleyAkaAshley and other gamers are to be believed, relatively many female ones among them, then the WoWs community is among the friendliest and least toxic in the whole wide world of MMOs, actually. Oh there absolutely is recourse. WG added the option to report chat abuse in DMs in the port chat directly to the context menu a few patches ago. All you need to do is right-click, then left-click. And you can blacklist them as well, which will also blacklist them in the battle chat and there will be a marker next to their name in the teams roster if you ever meet them again in battle. Of course nobody except the abusers and WG player "support" actually knows if, when and how they are sanctioned, and what the actual standards are. But should they actually do mete out sanctions, even if it's only a week of chat ban or two, then I should consider that a more effective solution than letting players just disable it on the receiving end. Switching off the receiving of DMs is the equivalent of pressing your hands on your ears and shouting "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Not having the opportunity but actually sanctioning transgressions though, that would be downright educational. Giving players a tool, and the trust to use it responsibly, and spanking them if they fail to live up to that. They definitely punish players for using words they deem too dirty in the battle chat, and if players are being reported too often. And players definitely do get reported all the time for just being sarcastic or, say, playing aircraft carriers. -

Seriously? THIS is bugging you enough to start a thread on the forum when there are completely broken aircraft carriers in this game?! -

The Key Battle: Even More Rewards!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Seriously I mean for F2P players it's literally detrimental to play this mode when they could use the time to gain credits and XP in Randoms. It does not even contribute much to getting the daily containers. What kind of person gets ideas like that? And why aren't they stopped by their superiors? -
The Key Battle: Even More Rewards!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Yeah so apparently the main guns of that first ship you get, the Valkyrie, make no sound at all when they fire. I first thought my client was broken and did a check and repair. No doubt countless other players wasted their time the same way and maybe even took other fruitless efforts, like contacting player "support" and what not. I am seemingly assured though by a forum mate that the total lack of gunfire sound is indeed intentional. What kind of monkey muppet comes up with an idea like that? What kind of supervisor lets them get away with it? -
Preemptive Complaint about Christmas Dockyard Event (Hizen)
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Sunleader's topic in General Discussion
Can you actually hear yourself? A "lower rise" is still a rise. Maybe you should quantify all those Christmas rises to put it all into context specifically. And also, it could easily be attributed to any number of other factors. That says more about you than me, I'm afraid. Just keep telling yourself that hard enough. Does the word "Slava" have any meaning to you at all, youngling? Just keep refusing to ask yourself why that was.
