How do you like upcoming changes to "Ranked" battles (i.e. "New Concept")?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Well, in contrast to earlier drafts of this rework, the thing where you can't skip leagues no matter what, does at least seem designed to actually keep the riff raff out (= out of the higher leagues). We'll have to see how that works out in practice though. And of course there is still nothing resembling a remotely level playing field, and they will still let CVs in. It may be a step closer but still barely approaching a serious competitive mode and still does next to nothing to "prepare players for actual competitive modes", even though that is their stated goal, according to the St. Petersburg CC summit a while back. -
Penalty imposed for Pc issue....
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to SeaWolf7's topic in General Discussion
Dude you even get punished if you get kicked out by a client crash, which is totally and absolutely Wargaming's fault alone because of their crummy programming and non-existing quality assurance. Complete, wilful ignorance of long-established industry best-practice. There is nothing you can do about it and it is but a minor annoyance, compared to CVs. -
Cashback %200 Coupon help
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to sultanmurad's topic in General Discussion
It's a scam. The name is fraudulent. You do not get any cash back. Technically, it is a gift with purchase, as Anya once explained to Buffy in the Magic Box. You lose nothing by forfeiting it - to the contrary. Do not give Wargaming any money till they fix CVs. -
Just say no.

Arsonist - tips on how to accomplish?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to WarDax's topic in General Discussion
Tier IX gets the fewest carrier battles, about 33% on average. Any other tier between III and X gets between 50 and 100%. It feels as though I've gotten the most of my few Arsonists with English BBs, especially Lion and Thunderer. Alsace was also good though. -
Arsonist - tips on how to accomplish?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to WarDax's topic in General Discussion
This is one of the achievements that comes the hardest to me, which is probably indicative of sucky positioning and doing too little damage overall, and usually dieing too soon. You don't just need to do a lot of fire damage but you also need to avoid taking a lot of damage in return, at least before you can finish off the target. So your position needs to reflect that. And you need to be able to secure the kill yourself. Now what usually happens is the lower a target gets, the more players in range tend to focus it. So ideally you want to pick a target that cannot easily be hit by anyone else to avoid the kill steal. So as per usual, the best tier for this would seem to be tha magic Nine because on any other tier, you runa much higher chance of not only the enemy CV but even the one on your own team to massively interfere with your plans. -
[Poll] How many ships do you have in your harbor right now?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
What is the point of all this? -
You want to spend as little time as possible on Tier 7, or any Tier below 9 for that matter, since all you are on these tiers is carrier fodder. So the question is actually, are you in a greater hurry to reach Roon or Izumo? You want to free-XP as many ships as possible in between. That said, I would mind grinding through Amagi a lot less than Hipper, and even Nagato is fairly OK once you have the hull upgrade. The guns are very reliable (except against Russian ships of course.)

What is your current success with "Always Courageous Collection" (ultimate prize is USN Tier V BB "Oklahoma")?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
On my NA account, I only need two more items and can get 11 more containers by completing outstanding directives. That should be no problem, provided I don't stop playing completely in the next nine days. The EU account is also all but safe, with six containers left to acquire from directives, two more items needed and two duplicates already received. -
Warspite or Queen Elizabeth?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
WE has the funny English HE but Warspite does not. Instead, it has much better dispersion and slightly worse AA. -
[POLL] Have you played new "Key Battle" Halloween event battle type? Do you like it?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
It is not a recurring mission, now, is it? Oh it IS a recurring mission. Ok that makes a little more sense. Still, 7.5k Commander XP is nothing compared to what you could make in the past events, at times even in a single game. And another thing I haven't brought up yet is that the Filth event thing was probably the best thing WG ever did in terms of educating players and increasing the skills of the player base. It tought players so many things, positioning, mechanics, communication, I don't even remember - but I do remember being impressed. In contrast, this current event is even more damage focused than Randoms, and thus detrimental in terms of education. -
Which upgrade should i get for Gneisenau?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Curesto's topic in General Discussion
That may be so but you only get them in less than a third of battles, as opposed to 50-100% in all other tiers. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Curesto's topic in General Discussion
You should just Free-XP it and Bismarck and skip right ahead to FdG. Everything except Tier IX is just carrier fodder anyway since the CV reworsening. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
OK so riddle me this now though: A new, very easy combat mission specifically for this mode has cropped up. I haven't the slightest clue why or what it is because on the Combat Mission screen, the Combat Missions, very very stupidly and for no good reason at all, no longer carry titles ever since Wargaming reworsened that Combat Missions screen even though nobody ever asked for it. Which I've fed back to them repeatedly in all manner of ways so I'm sure they'll get around to it by about the time that Boston and Amsterdam are flooded by the ongoing climate catastrophe. But that is slightly beside the point, which, and correct me if I'm wrong, is this: The rewards are 7,500 Elite Commander XP and 7,500 Ship XP. Yeah right. Ship XP for an event ship that will be gone soon, and has no follow-up or nothing to grind with its ship XP, in an event where you don't even get any Ship XP otherwise, save for that stupid little chunk from the daily mission chain, and whose captain does not even incur the same amount of Elite Commander XP because, unlike in all the previous Events, you don't get any Commander skills and no 19-pt event captain even though that was always one of the best and most appreciated features of those previous Events, and playing with Captain builds is among the most funnest things that remain in this game. <Slow Clap> All in all, though many of my original points have been negated in some way or other, like by a little overpriced stuff you can buy for the B in the armory, I stand by my original assessment that all this is needlessly complicated and it is just one more in an endless string of examples where WG should just have left well enough alone and stuck with the proven ways of doing things in the first place instead of all this contrived BS. -
Fun mode- but why is teamkilling on in the Event?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FizzlePopBerryTwist's topic in General Discussion
Team damage is not "on" but you can leave the team at any time. Keeps you on your toes. Players liked the element of treachery in last year's Halloween event. -
ARP Maya and other copy-paste collab ships
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to CaptainWolf11's topic in General Discussion
Harekaze actually gets three different camos, one of which incurs different bonuses - 50% extra commander XP instead of 100% extra Free XP. And of course that's the weebiest of the lot, with the degenerate cat motif. -
ARP Maya and other copy-paste collab ships
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to CaptainWolf11's topic in General Discussion
Used to be this kind of ship was very nice for the odd spot of sealclubbing since you could just swap in some high tier captain but were not forced to keep one there forever. The CV rework put paid to that, however. So the only remaining reasons to buy, for those traitors not boycotting WG products, would be to feed their weeb habit or use it in Ranked. -
Dude no matter how they "fix" it, it's just Tier V carrier fodder. The only time that ship would even begin to register would be in a non-CV mode, so probably not any earlier than the next T5 Ranked. It makes no sense to work oneself up over such pointless squabbles.

DDs Gameplay and no teamwork these days
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to OsamaBinLantirn's topic in General Discussion
To the contrary. It is the strongest class bar the CVs (which should not be in this game anyway.) Almost every DD has carry potential, which cannot be said of every cruiser and BB by a long shot. Also wrong, that would be CVs. They are frequently reported whatever they do, on general principle, because most players just hate them. Inconsequential. -
After T9, now also T10 is ruined.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Supersubway's topic in General Discussion
What's the worst a poor Alaska player on my team can do when I'm in a DD? Fail to support me. Everybody does that. It is so normal I hardly even notice any more. Fail to do a lot of damage? Good. More for me. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Supersubway's topic in General Discussion
Tier 9 is the very best tier atm since it has far fewer carrier battles than any other. The Alaska population frankly does not bother me. And what bothers me on Tier X, frankly, is 1) CVs (but I have my European DDs for that) 2) CVs 3) CVs 4) Crappy DD players so I have to play those myself all of the time.- 35 replies

Are you buying the new ARP content ?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Ulbricht's topic in General Discussion
I'm not boycotting these because they are too expensive but 1) CV rework 2) Stupid weeb clutter. -
The other thing Smaland has over Halland is the option to just switch in your Friesland captain with his gunboating skill set. BFT means it then actually has even a little more base continuous AA damage than Halland, 413 to 394. It's not much more but you do have it all the time without relying on the gimped "Defensive" AA. (Until your AA guns get destroyed but hey.)

Operations like Narai, Aegis etc
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Vana_Kurat's topic in General Discussion
So I've been doing some Operations again on the NA server, and my impression is they have been severely dumbed down. It seems almost impossible to fail Narai or Raptor Rescue these days even with a complete team of utter rubes. The upside being that this allows you to grind through Tier 6 and 7 ships fairly quickly without being mere CV fodder in Randoms. But lacking a real challenge, they also lack enjoyment. On the other hand, back before this dumbing down, you could basically only count on a win with random team mates on Thursdays and Fridays. The longer the Operation of the Week remained in rotation, the worse the teams got, and chances of decent results deteriorated quickly over the weekend. EDIT: Except for Newport. The one operation that could actually have used some serious dumbing-down still feels as crazy over-the-top hard as ever and with the usual plebs, I can barely scrape a one-star together. Wargaming in a nutshell. Emblematic.
