Ranked battles cancelled this upcoming WoWs v0.9.11 update?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Yeah that irony thing needs some work, especially in the WoWs context. See, that's not "great" then is it? It would be "great" if it shredded every squad no matter what so you were completely unable to get a single drop of anywhere near it. If the CV gets even a single drop of, the word to describe the AA is "useless". Which you can't. -
[Poll] How many 19-point commanders do you currently have? Do you have enough "Elite Captain XP" stashed for upcoming 19->21 change?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Hm I had not even considered that option, but with the game the way it is now, and the option to optimise a single captain on multiple different ship types, it should definitely be considered. I mean how many different ships do you ever actually use these days of the CV plague? The only times when I play something other than Halland, Friesland, Smaland or Benham is for Naval Battles for my clan. Or maybe some events or missions with rewards. Currently I've got a commander on every ship of Tier V and up, for Snowflaking events, and on many low tier ships besides. So that's almost 300 captains, only 36 of which are maxed out and only 6 in the teens. But the vast majority of them will be made redundant by the change. Firing all these low skill deadbeats gotta be worth something?! Or to put it another way, -

Bwahahaha What ever gives you THAT idea? Continuous AA damage of 30 dps means it's not even 8 % of what Halland has, and even Halland is struggling against any semi competent Tier 8 CV player. It is less than Mutsuki has. Dude, I don't know what to tell you but there is always a choice, even if it is not to spend your hard-earned steel right now but save it for when and if you get something decent for it. But right now, if you buy a Somers, you will have 60% of CV battles in Randoms, and that is the good news because these carriers will at least sometimes only be Tier 8. There will be even more in Clan and Ranked battles and those will always be Tier X and the only time you will not go down against them is when they are disconnected or completely inept. The best credits earning DD for me right now is Friesland. Not being top tier is an advantage for credit earnings since you can farm higher tier ships which gets rewarded better than farming same or lower tier ships, and despite the lack of stealth and torps, she can be made to work in a lot of circumstances. And even though the AA is nowhere near what I'd consider "enough", the combination of fairly high dps plus smoke at least gives her something to work with. But she's only available for real money these days, so that's of course out, since you don't want to reward WG for breaking this game with the godam CVs. -

The sheer amount of money WG could make but doesn't

it boggles the mind. I mean hands up, who here would PAY at this stage for the privilege to not meet aircraft carriers in Random battles and competitive modes?- 64 replies

CV Protest 11th - 14th December 2020
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Mjollnir_za's topic in General Discussion
Bevertheless it still happens. And it sometimes gets more and better results since it is being covered by the complicit corporate media while they refuse to cover "legal" forms of protest that do not inconvenience anybody. While we're comparing the CV protest to civil rights protests, if the police treated my people the way black people are treated in the USA, I wouldn't be demonstrating, not even looting. I would be waging an Afghan style guerilla war. -

I actually tried to organise a full month of that about a year ago. The advantage being that it does not give WG a pretext to ban anybody. -

It's called PROTEST. Without organised player protest, there will never be any change for the better. -
Ranked battles cancelled this upcoming WoWs v0.9.11 update?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
for THEM. On the technical side. Not for the players and the gaming experience. Yet they don't even test the new skill system, just shove it down our throat. As I was saying: priorities. Whenever people are saying things like "I did not have the time", what they actually mean is "Something else was more important to me." -

Ranked is just a set of rules that are easily translated into algorithms! If it's not a comment on their technical capabilities, it is definitely one on their priorities. "Screw you players - fork over the cash already!" -

I am still convinced they have secretly nerfed Smolensk shell ballistics at some point. Demounted the range mod cause I just could not hit anything any more at the extended range. -

So they can't even implement the comparatively minor changes in Ranked, yet endeavour to turn the complete game inside out with the new commander skill point system. Got it. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
So what's the better strategy: starting to save up Elite Commander XP right away or blowing some to max out more captains first, in order to generate more by the time the crunch hits? -
12 months would be my guess.

Is it time to disengage and close your wallet?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Ocsimano18's topic in General Discussion
The time to close your wallets has come and gone about two years ago. If you keep giving WG money at this stage after the CV rework, nobody can help you. It means paying to be griefed.- 82 replies

Upcoming new commander skill system (19 -> 21) will NOT be done the way it was done when it happened the first time (17 -> 19) years ago...
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Why do you all keep overlooking the fact that every captain will earn Elite XP under this new scheme? 5% may not be enough to speed up the maxing-out of other commanders but it should absolutely be enough to help finance the odd retraining, especially since I expect we will be able to boost the amount further by using signals. I don't mean to defend Wargaming but priorities, people. -

If you "usually" get spotted by other DDs when you are driving the stealthiest ship in the game upwards of Tier II, then your positioning and general play style sucks to high heaven and you have no business whatsoever playing a Tier VIII DD. Is what I would have said before the onset of the carrier plague. Now that we do have the CV pandemic and all the Tiers besides Tier IX suck [edited]50% to 100% of the time, well. Free-XP the Yugumo and try to learn the basics with that one maybe. -

Until they are powercrept. Which is the exact same scam that WG pulled in 2018 on all those suckers who had bought Tier 8 premium tanks in WoT. Whoopdedoo. Flamu blew frickin' 94 minutes discussing this. The guy can't be arsed to do ANY editing or structuring any more. Zero effs left to give, it would seem. Let me get a caraffe of claret and a cigar for this. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Hopeless_Guppy's topic in General Discussion
Despite the long range of the torps, the best position to launch is from as close as you dare go under the circumstances, and when the enemy is pushing into you, not when he is heading away, same as with every other torpedo boat. You might still get hits but make it easier for him to dodge. Try to judge from the target's movements if he is totally oblivious or aware of the torp risk. Look at the smoke from the stack in addition to the white line to gauge his speed. If the course changes indicate he might be a sly one, and for example he's running at less than full ahead, chances are he will accelerate to dodge. -

Yes, with normal software companies that try to follow long established industry best-practice. But as we all know, Wargaming are even, ehm well, "struggling" with basic quality assurance. -
CV protection by matchmaking
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion

Hi, a few of you might remember that I started keeping stats on the percentage of carrier Random battles I get with any given ship about a year ago or so because I thought that WG futzes with the matchmaking in order to protect aircraft carriers even more. So that on top of all the other protections for their precious CVs, the sacred class also has to endure fewer battles against those rare DDs that have almost adequate AA, viz., the top European ones. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11G0IGENL2SOSoJx8yP6Sz_RhVIk0hovHasSaWKiw1KM/edit#gid=1420727126 Admittedly, over time that suspicion was not borne out by the numbers, with both Friesland and Benham getting about the same 35.odd % of CV battles which is actually about one percent less than my tier average. And in any event, it was explained to me that even several dozens of battles per ship do not make the numbers statistically reliable. So I am reluctant to base more than very general trends on these numbers, not the least since they are a bit error-prone because I failed to devise a way to automate the count, or even just to make it semi-automatic, like by adding a button to the spreadsheet that just increases the number in question by one for each click. [1] That said though, in these past few weeks the feeling of something being wrong has returned. I can't seem to get in a Benham game these days without getting the godam fun police while Friesland gets barely any CVs. So three days ago I started a new count, and although these numbers are not even in the single digits yet, the ratio is actually 80% for Benham and 0% for Friesland. My current hypothesis is that some matchmaking rule is to blame for that, and at the top of my list is the mirroring of ship nationalities. "If possible, ships of different nations are distributed between teams on an even basis." Since there are US and Japanese and German and English carriers, but no Swedish ones, it stands to reason that the matchmaker is more prone to rope in a carrier for DDs of these nations to fulfill this rule, while it can't do that for European ships. I am not very algorithmically minded though, so what do you say? https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Matchmaking#Other_restrictions_in_Random_Battles

So I can keep farming to the last second and then think really hard about what I want to do with them. Or have three premium days I can buy individually over the course of a complete month at a time when it suits me.
