Hypothesis about the Makarov / Satan Crates shitstorm

That would at least have been kinda funny. Like bringing an Atlanta to Co-Op used to be. -

Hypothesis about the Makarov / Satan Crates shitstorm

I mean I'm not judging here. Much. WG has way too much power and the WG marketing department doubly so. It was high time they got at least a little come-uppance. And the fake sincerity of Flamu repating over and over again how he's "taking one for the team" by buying more and more lootboxes (all of which he openly told his cheering lemmings in the same breath he claims as tax deductibles) - that was straight up funny. More fun than I got out of the game proper for a long time, to be sure. I do believe the streamers and youtubers are genuinely unhappy with the way things are going at WG and with WoWs, first and foremost the CV rework of course but also all the other BS, Russian Bias, cash grab here, dumbing down there... it shapes their existence and they are not happy with that shape. And they might just have come to the conclusion that while resistance may be futile in a frontal attack, i.e. where the actual substance of the game is concerned, with WG straight up refusing to listen to reason - at the same time, WG's own greedy scams are opening up all kinds of flanks. Truly a worthy play. I still wish they'd have used their influence to organize player resistance and boycotts though, that sort of thing. But in this predatory-capitalist world, it would seem one has to be content with scraps and appreciate the little things. -
Santa containers "rigged": WG Chooses Your Santa Gift Ship

Muh latest idea. -
If only iEarlGrey were here to see that <tears up>

Verizon, the sponsor, would sure be loving that.

Pöh. If you're not long since blocked by WG on twitter, you're doing it wrong anyway.

What does "400-750 units of Coal" mean anyway? Is it randomized? Is it based on any sort conditions? Ship tier? Base XP received in the battle in question? It's not the first time they did that, though I didn't really notice last year.

Testing the Shortlist theory.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to SoothingWhaleSong's topic in General Discussion
Dude there are now several threads on this forum alone, dozens of pages with hundreds of posts, clearly demonstrating that at least a sizable minority still does not understand what the shortlist theory even is. That means the wording of this poll is so flawed the results do not prove anything beyond the fact that people are dumb and gullible and will buy anything, and there's a horde of rubes waking up every day and firing up their internet looking to buy some nice stuff. And we already knew that from WG's giant field test called "the CV rework".- 75 replies

He just did the exact same thing Flambass did last year. Monkey see - monkey do. -
No no the funniest thing about Makarov is how they refused to give me one back in I think 2018. I wanted it purely for collector reasons because you couldn't get it and I had almost every other Tier VI premium back then. All but two of them. And they had started the Public Test marathon, with "one Tier VI premium that players did not have yet in their ports" as the prize. And I specifically asked player support in advance if that meant I was getting a Makarov if I had every other one. And they said yes. And so I bought the one single other Tier VI premium I did not already have - the West Virginia - to make sure. And then I finished the PTS marathon and got - a second Mutsu. Which was promptly converted into doubloons. I kept sending a few messages to player support, and posting about it on this forum, and messaging with some PR flack or other, Sehales maybe, don't remember. Everybody told me to just get stuffed. What we now have is what you get if you don't nip such things in the bud.

Santa containers "rigged": WG Chooses Your Santa Gift Ship
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Then again though, I distinctly remember an actual, distinct irregularity going on with ship drops from Santa crates last year. Flambass had been opening a good many crates live on his stream and then uploaded it to YT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzNX13VaP3w&t=902s I quote the text from the News bulletin back then: "If you get a ship that you already own, it will automatically be swapped for a different ship from the list. In this situation, a Santa container dropped onto the transport ship in the Port will be changed for a supercontainer, and you will get a ship that comes with a Port slot and Commander with 10 skill points. If you get a ship that is already anchored in your Port and have collected all the ships that have a chance of being dropped in Santa's containers, the transport ship will be displayed with a Santa container placed on its deck. Once you open the container, you will see the ship it initially carried. That ship, however, will not steer into your Port. Instead, you will receive the ship's price in doubloons, a Port slot, and a Commander with 10 skill points." So what should have happened is that first Krasny Krim should have been converted to a Supercontainer with a Marblehead in it. Nobody gave a flying fork back then though. -

And to think I once raised as big a stink as I could for not getting a Makarov. Not that anyone cared. This was supposed to be the reward they had firmly promised me for taking part in a PTS summer marathon, only to go back on it afterwards. That was an actual scam, literally fraud, if on a very small scale. -

Am I the only one to find it odd how WG creates some sort of outrage or another year after year at the exact same time - in the weeks before Christmas, when people are ready to spend loads of money? I wager it's just another PR stunt, only this time it actually does men 'public relations'. Good PR is bad PR and the main thing is to get attention. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
No more or less random than it always was, just maybe from an even smaller, shittier short list. I fail to see any meaningful difference to the Santa scams of past years, except that this year, apparently even the streamers have decided to forgo the accolades and get onboard the fake outrage clickbait train. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Is that really any different than it always was? Even in the past years, people usually got some low -to-mid tier garbage first, and you had to buy hundreds of mid or big crates to get any interesting drops, let alone rare ones. If you're still giving Wargaming any money after the CV rework, you're beyond help one way or the other. -
Christmas Crates Drop Rate Project
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to black_falcon120's topic in General Discussion
When will you collate the results? Because I'm not again keeping meticulous tabs on muh loot in order to one day out of the blue find out I'm too late. (Although I will definitely not buy any crates this time, it's only the snowflakes and any other free in-game drops.) -
Stalingrad is ridiculously OP with excellent, accurate guns. But as a supercruiser, she does get the extended fire duration of BBs, and because everyone knows she is so OP, and because she is a fairly big, unstealthy target that is easy to hit, she gets focused with HE a lot in order to burn her down and take her out. And since she has radar, you will feel compelled to push into HE-Spam range early. Also, she does not take Hydro, making her vulnerable to torpedoes despite the 25% damage reduction. All these features compound each other. So to enjoy Stalin, you need a BB captain with Fire Prevention, and you need to know how to play around all these issues with superior positioning and tactics. Otherwise you will be disappointed. (And of course carriers will drop you left, right and center despite the fairly high continuous AA damage, although you are bound to get a few percent fewer carrier battles than cruisers of those nations that also have aircraft carriers, because of the soft nation mirroring rule in matchmaking.)

Blyskawica or Aigle with coal?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Curepto's topic in General Discussion
Neither. Blyska is just pathetic and both are helpless, unstealthy carrier fodder in Randoms, and Aigle even in Ranked. (Blyska at Tier VII does not get carriers in Ranked, but it does meet loads of much, much better DDs as well as radar cruisers. It used to be strong back in the days when blindfiring was still a thing.) The only time I ever break either one out is for a round of Co-op to crack the opening bars of Naval Battle. You're blowing hard-earned coal on getting victimized. In the current meta, you should save your coal and get the Tier IX ships. Mainly Georgia. None of them fare a whole lot better against CVs but at least they face them a lot less often and not in almost every battle. And if there's Ranked or Clan Battles on Tier IX or any future mode for only same-tier ships, you face no carriers at all. Of course you will still get kicked in the teeth at some point even so, as soon as WG breaks the game even more by introducing submarines on the uneven tiers. But hey, that's just the way the cookie gets completely stomped on and obliterated, as a wise man once said. -
0.9.11 Combat Missions and Winter Trophies for Everyone!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
I cannot believe they once again tweaked the ship horn sounds and once again failed to remove that terrible, excessive delay. When will they make the interns use headphones while reworking sound effects audio? Also still not fixed the bug where the last image from the previous battle appears when the battle is over. Sloppy sloppy sloppy. -
General AA dilemma / discussion

General AA dilemma / discussion
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in General Discussion
WG clearly does not want any player to have effective tools against CVs. Rather, any changes they ever implement are aimed at protecting CVs and their planes better and better while at best creating the impression that players have counterplay options. They literally said so in St Petersburg at the CC summit and underscored it again and again with every change implemented since then. Even if they ever were to implement any such thing, it still would not change the spotting problem. Did you miss the part where WG nerfed blob AA so players cannot protect each other even if they want to? Or do you just ignore it because it doesn't fit your world view? Upshot: Organised player protest against CVs remains the only conceivable path that can ever lead to an improvement of the situation. Of course. -
[Poll] How many 19-point commanders do you currently have? Do you have enough "Elite Captain XP" stashed for upcoming 19->21 change?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
OK I'm not even sure of that. I had not read up in detail on the dev blog, especially not on the conversion of credits into Elite commander XP and vice versa. Catching up on that now and, as per usual with Wargaming, there is some need for clarification because the dev blog is poorly worded. It says: Does that mean what y'all apparently take it to mean, which is that players get 25% of a dismissed captain's current Commander XP plus all the XP that went into training him to his current level? Maybe I'm being overly cautious here but nowhere does it say you can convert skill points into credits or XP. From experience, I wouldn't put it past WG to mean only the captain's current amount of XP, viz, all the XP he has gained since he last levelled up. In the example of my Mutsuki captain, that would mean I could convert 25% of 21575 XP. EDIT: But OK, let's take it as read. I've made this little spreadsheet here that will give a rough estimate of how much Elite commander XP you can gain by dismissing the riff raff from your barracks, how much it will cost you in credits and how many 19-point commanders you can max out with it, based on the guesstimate of needing 750,000 extra XP to go from 19 to 21. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IucYwAmu1-6s7qU2P0jMlYmT3dHOybmgttW1Kanlmkg/edit?usp=sharing You cannot change the values but you should be able to copy the spreadsheet to your own personal google docs where you can then modify it to your heart's content. So all you gotta do is play a little Sesame street and Count your captains. (It is just a rough estimate because it does not take into account the current amount of XP of all those captains but only the XP that was already converted into their skill points. Also players might not want to straight up dismiss any Dashas, Mighty Jingles, space/weeb captains etc they have amassed over eons past.)
