Cpt Skill Rework: More terrible game design
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
So I've once more installed the Public Test Client in order to get a closer look at the captain skill rework. As laid out elsewhere (https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/144313-the-new-captain-skill-tree/?do=findComment&comment=3720158) , the main source of Elite Commander XP, for many players, will be to dismiss low skill commanders in order to recover 25% of the XP that went into their training, which you have to pay for with credits. There will be a lot of dismissing going on, so much so in fact that one can only hope somebody will write a mod in time to at least partially automate that process. Yet it would seem that WG still is not implementing a proper crew management structure. Not even a confusing and poor crew management structure like the "barracks" in World of Tanks. To the contrary. They seem to be getting rid of the closest thing to crew management which exists right now in WoWs, viz, the "Personnel File". There appears to be no button or anything to directly access the Reserve and get an overview of your "human" ressources. In fact there is one but it is labelled [Change Commander] and you need to open an individual commander's menu page first. To their credit, it is at least possible to dismiss commanders straight from the menu that opens when you do that. You also get a little "i" button for each commander that sends you to his info screen. But on that screen, all you can do is browse the commander's skills - you cannot redistribute the skill points, cannot master new skills, cannot level him or her up with ECXP. IOW the GUI remains as amateurish and broken as ever, this has clearly not been designed by anybody who has had any training in GUI design, and WG skip fixing these basics first, in favor of the haphazard cash grab that is the Commander Skill Rework.- 26 replies

Is too late for Hizen?

Well, Yahagi is largely useless garbage, its only purposes being 1) snowflaking and 2) stopping lootboxes from dropping a Yahagi on you. -

Cpt Skill Rework: More terrible game design
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Also, since it costs either actual money or a completely insane amount of ressources to even just experiment with different captain builds, of course everybody looks up their favourite streamer's build on youtube. WG's very own greed itself is the major contributor to killing diversity and enjoyment. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UDqctb8pVpiyYBZZdgE7LzkwphdJ6hjUQpgRA_9CZpk/edit#gid=998251886 -
Cpt Skill Rework: More terrible game design

Cash grab. They rarely ever fix things that the majority of players is complaining about. But if they do, it takes them years after years. And they still botch it. Like the Demount all Signals button. Countless other examples come to mind. -
They can implement that any time for all I care, as long as I finally get my SAAB Robot anti-ship missiles on the Smaland.

WG Cpt skill rework: actively discouraging team play
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
https://youtu.be/8aeXN8J6sKA?t=718 As discussed in the latest Flamu video, the new "Dead Eye" skill for BBs increases main gun accuracy when there are no enemy ships spotted within the range of your own standard concealment. As the streamer lays out, this does not merely encourage camping and back-line sniping. This terrible game design decision is even more detrimental than that. So if you are the one spotting a target you do not want to shoot, like say a nose-in Russian BB that you won't damage much, you are better off running away to stop spotting him. Which then of course means that nobody else on your team can shoot him any more either. (Or at best, only blind-shoot him.) Not even ships in a crossfire position that have much better angles and could actually do more serious damage. I repeat from an earlier post on a different mess: What kind of people get ideas like that? And why don't their superiors stop them?- 28 replies

In your opinion why should i get Massachusetts ?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Butterdoll's topic in General Discussion
You are not gonna have much fun buying tier eight carrier fodder. Which is what all tier 8 ships and in fact most all ships in the whole game are. And "small time spenders" like you are exactly where WG get their money from. -

Nope, it was worded much too well for such a crass mistake. Cause unlike the noobs and interns whom WG uses for any kind of PR, writing and translating, I am a professional. -

Do not give WG any money until they fix the CV rework. Instead, they are currently in the process of breaking the game even worse. https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/144846-wg-cpt-skill-rework-actively-discouraging-team-play/?tab=comments#comment-3737181 -
Updates to Ranked Battles
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
I am left wondering what WG currently thinks this mode is supposed to be. What it should accomplish. Why it is even there. What their vision is. Because what WG said, back at the CC summit in St. Petersburg all those months ago - that it was meant as a preparatory stage for actual competitive modes, which are Clan Battles - that is no more true with these changes than it ever was. It might actually be a little more fun, to be sure. But I still fail to see a purpose. -

This is necessary to ensure high-quality matchmaking."- 90 replies

How accurately are you able to guesstimate your Base XP?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
And by "you", I mean "you personally". Just to liven things up, another shot at WarGreedy for their unethical lack of transparency. Even after all these years and maybe 30,000 battles or more (all accounts included), I have a surprisingly hard time estimating my base XP, based on what I actually did in battle. Sometimes it is really stunning. And I even did some research into the XP/credits algorithm, I feel like I paid more attention to the available info on what kind of things are actually being rewarded than most players out there. I don't have any examples right now where I feel short-changed, which is partly because I rarely ever perform really well of course. But here's two where I got more, sometimes a lot more than expected: https://replayswows.com/replay/115801#stats The actual replay is pretty boring. Thing is though, the only reason I even took out my Jutland for this one was naval battles. It was only the second bar, so all I needed was 900 base XP. Hotspot map, and all I did was block the A cap for half the game, which as far as I know is not rewarded at all. Got off a few potshots at their Neustrashimy and some other ships, only shot down two planes, finally got one cap, landed a few torps, taking down one cruiser shortly after being blapped by their Musashi. Not even 50k damage. Granted, 14k of that was done to a DD, but same tier - no damage at all to higher tier ships except for those two carrier planes. In a word, I was half expecting to not even have cracked the 900 base XP. But it actually turned out to be 1750, for second place! Almost twice as much as anticipated and really rather a lot for me. For basically one kill, one cap and a bit of ancillary damage. I don't get it. Other example: Friesland, caught a torp at the start, only got in 13.5 k damage to their Kita, two spotting ribbons. NOTHING else. Luckily it was a win => 1052 XP, sufficient for the 900 XP bar which I was also not expecting in any way. -
Cpt Skill rework is a big fat cruiser nerf on top of everything else
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
If I weren't so jilted by the CV rework and all the other frauds and scams, I'd focus on the positive, which is a full month of free skill redistribution. Cause playing with different crazy captain builds is basically the most fun that is left in the game. -
Fen Yang - and WG that has no clue what to do with it

Morons who still give WG money, that's who. Doubly so if the money buys them T8 carrier fodder. There's one of those logging on to the premium shop every minute. -
It will cost 1.200.000 "Elite Captain XP" to upgrade from 19->21 Captain points in upcoming change...
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
So in all the excitement about #greedgaming, one crucial piece of information escapes me: Will players still be able to use ECXP to complete the retraining? (Because what you do under the current system, is you pay the credits, then hit the little [+] button in the commander box that also lets you level him up, then spend a little ECXP and the retraining is done.) And also it only says the doubloon cost of retraining will be reduced by 90% during Patch 10.0. Did anybody by any chance mention if the ECXP cost will also be reduced in this time? -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
You actively want to play anything but Tier XI these days? You actually have days where you start up the client and think to yourself, "Wow, i could really go for a round in the old Jianwei/Acasta/Emerald/<insert useless port queen on CV-infested mid tier here> right now!!!1" And I actually did use to have days like that. The last time was maybe two years ago. These days, I don't even fancy Tier IV sealclubbing any more. On my NA account, I sold the Derzki a long time ago, remember what a complete and utter giggle machine that used to be? I'm even about to sell the Isokaze and frikkin' Clemson for their port slots. You're just carrier fodder. I have 300 ships in port these days and only play a literal handful of them on a regular basis any more. Another handful, all but one of them Tier IX DDs, are used on a semi-regular basis for naval battles. Which is precisely why you no longer need captains at all on all those many many crummy port queens that you only keep around for snowflaking twice a year anyway. -

Like PM, which is only useful when others are not just actually shooting at you but even actually hitting you.

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. To re-iterate: This is why it is essential to grind credits now , in good time in advance, if you plan to take advantage of the free redistribution period I am assuming WG will grant players when the rework comes into effect, and experiment with different captain builds. So you can immediately dismiss as many low-skill count riff raff captains as possible right away, from all the useless port queens you don't give a damn about anyway, and squeeze out 25% of the XP that went into their training, to max out a few commanders for those very few ships that you actually care to play in Randoms, and possibly Ranked. Credits are ground somewhat easier than Elite Commander XP, especially if you don't have many maxxed-out captains yet. If you do not have any 19-pointers yet, credits are the only thing you can realistically grind in advance to prepare for this upcoming catastrophe. And one of the few good things about this rework is that you will no longer really need a captain for Co-Op, and presumeably also not for Snowflaking. So that will make it somewhat easier to max out commanders in the first place, especially for players who actually tried to have fun and experiment and diversify and therefore have a lot of low skill-count captains but few to no maxed-out ones. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IucYwAmu1-6s7qU2P0jMlYmT3dHOybmgttW1Kanlmkg/edit#gid=2125998039 There was no way to convert credits into ECXP before but there will be one after the rework. I would not put it past WG to restrict future Snowflaking events to Random battles though. It would be a super easy way to squeeze yet more sweet sweet money out of players through this rework.
