[SOLVED] Can't watch replays any more
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Since when? I have been having this issue only for maybe two, three patches now but before that, they played just fine with my mods installed. (I mean quite apart from the fact the mods only could take effect if the client actually started and tried to play the replay, which - in my case - it does not.) -

[SOLVED] Can't watch replays any more
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Yeah as I said, that does not work. I can reset the association just fine and it keeps opening the replays with Avidemux anyway. It refuses to actually accept the reset. Next time opening that menu, it is back at Avidemux again. -
[SOLVED] Can't watch replays any more
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Nope. If anything the process was running invisibly in the background. But even if I shut the WGC process down in the taskmanager, dragging the file on the shortcut then just brings the WGC back up. -

Nope, that just opens the WGC, which then fails to open the replay but just sits there. -
Nah, couldn't be arsed to look it up. Which is why I wrote "possibly". It helps if you can read, but only those who actually do it.

The most "accurate" DD ranked tier list ever made
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Mikey626's topic in General Discussion
Seriously is there any point in bringing a Tier IX when you are allowed to bring a Tier X, and have at least a 50:50 chance of coming up against a Tier X CV?! WG could have botched the new format harder if they really tried, but not by much. -
The Italian Navy had a dam sight more BBs in World War II than the glorious Soviet/Russian Navy, comrade. Possibly in both World Wars.

Turrets & Torps ready but won't fire.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to InfinityIncarnate's topic in General Discussion
Now that would mean it only occured in those times when you have high ping, i.e. when the whole game turns into a slide show; when it all seems to stand still for a second or two and then fast-forwards to the state of play that you missed in those seconds. Like what I have been experiencing on the regular over the holidays after a few late night/early morning games on the NA server. But the thing is, this weapons trigger bug does not seem to be limited to those high ping situations. More often than not, it appears when all else seems normal.- 64 replies

Tiers 1, 2 & maybe 3 - the only tiers to play.
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Aethervoxx's topic in General Discussion
JFTR, I don't have a lot of Tier III statistics but what little numbers I do have, the average rate of carrier battles is 50%. That is about the same as Tier V and VII, and 20% more than on Tier IX. (The difference of course being that a few Tier IX ships actually do have almost barely adequate AA.) -
New ranked battles = discrimination for disabled players!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_Ironclad_Petticoat's topic in Archive
Contrasting this with people like the Massa player on one of my NA teams yesterday, first thing he said in chat was "Oh brother I suck so hard at this game!" Then predictably died a few minutes in. -

Flamu said on the stream yesterday he had heard that this bug, which I have also experienced on some occasions, was linked to captain skills and/or upgrades that influence the reload times. So the indicators show you're ready but the weapons only release after the regular reload time without perks expires. Or something. Edit 1: One other thing I have noticed, specifically on Halland and Smaland, ever since I got these ships a few patches ago is that sometimes you need to press the 3 key several times before it changes from guns to torpedoes, or from narrow to wide spread, or the other way round. But that seems an older and unrelated bug. Good times, considering they are about to release this major captain skill rework with loads of super impractical skills that are not just situational but downright conditional and where you cannot even discern right away whether they even have been activated, but where you need to analyse your replay afterwards to see if they should have been proc'd. Like the fantastic <COUGH> "Brawler" skill for cruisers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWg05jIQE8s- 64 replies

Just play in the dark of night. I had two brilliant games today and I was using squishy cruisers both times. Muh last two Tier VIII snowflakes (https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/145015-ranked-shenannigans/ No carriers, decent teams, both were fairly close. WG may well have said in the news bulletin that they would be shutting down Ranked at night, "to ensure quality matchmaking" #BWAHAHA but what that actually means is apparently that they let it go on till four in the morning in central Europe. So...

How do i play the Furutaka?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to J4CK_D4N13L5's topic in General Discussion
That used to be a good idea but it is not any more, these days, because of the CV rework. You might have noticed already that it is a completely different game as soon as aircraft carriers are involved - usually a boring camp fest where only the CVs actually get to enjoy themselves and actually play while all others are just expendable extras. Stooges without counterplay. Plane fodder. (Except if the CVs are completely incompetent, which you can easily determine - if they manage to actually miss any target with any drop at all, they can't be any good.) The ratio of CV battles varies tier by tier, but you get between 50 and 100% of carrier games on all tiers except I, II and IX. All those videos are sadly obsolete. Furutaka used to be a strong ship, very strong even, in the brief window between the points in time when her guns got buffed and the AA of all surface ships got nerfed to all hell. Now though, like all mid and low tier ships, she is just carrier fodder in the majority of Random battles, and strong only if not too heavily uptiered, which takes away another maybe 10 or 20 per cent of battles at least. A savvy player may do well in Ranked, if there are no carriers and everybody is Tier V. But since she doesn't get a heal and there is no cap on the number of BBs, it usually comes down to a BB fest with some DDs thrown in and the cruisers get crucified.- So just don't bother. Either leave the game, especially with the upcoming captain skill rework, which will put Newbies at a particularly terrible disadvantage, or skip to Tier IX as fast as possible. Because once there, you only get the fun police about a third of the times. -
About the purchase of strasbourg
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Triplexmazi's topic in General Discussion
Only that most (all?) others are a lot tankier and perform way better as BBs when uptiered. Not the least because every single one has bigger guns and all except Ashitaka have a lot more AA. Most have more than twice the dps, some almost five times as much. Not that any of that is enough, any semi-competent CV will still get a strike off, but it will make them choose Strasbourg over other targets and they might even get multiple strikes off against her. Oh great, Strasbourg gives a whole new category: Those that can do neither. Mold breaking! Paradigm-shifting!1 Because it can do damage because of its bf guns, and tank damage bc of its new-ship printer. Besides twice the AA dps. Don't look now but Strasbourg has none of those things. Only squishiness, poor stealth and some speed. Great. But if you insist on playing Tier VII to start fires, you might as well use just about any actual cruiser, and have an easier time surviving in some of them, if because of nothing else than stealth and agility. Plus they have more damage output. He said "You have to play it like a cruiser." If you insist on playing it at all. Because it leaves no other options, because it fails at everything that makes a BB. Because all but complete potato carriers avoid them, especially if there is a Strasbourg around they can pick on instead, because all the others have much more dps. Yeah, a garbage promo premium BB is garbage. Real show stopper. Who woulda thunk. And there is absolutely nothing else happening in the game right now that he could grab a lot bigger headlines with if that was the main intention here. Oh wait. Besides, grabbing attention is a vital part of his job description, so that is actually a compliment. Super. Only that is not the point of using a BB. Their role is to tank damage and threaten others with their alpha in order to gain map control. None of which Strasbourg can do. And if you insist on comparing it to cruisers - whose actual role it is to do a lot of damage - then how does the damage done stack up to your best cruiser? For a fair comparison? I don't mean to defend him, in fact I've gone off him quite a bit, but your arguments are far-fetched and fail to hold up. They make you sound jealous of the attention he supposedly gets. Which is very little, compared to what he could get if he were streaming a game that was actually popular. Especially considering he actually puts in some effort to deliver quality YT reviews, in contrast to most other WoWs streamers and youtubers. Also to my mind, he doesn't even suggest to skip the grind, he suggests to skip playing it, and at any rate, skip paying actual money for it. And I agree with that. -

So you're going to argue against the facts? Like, - frequently uptiered and up against Tier IXs - overmatched by very many other ships - very thin plating offering very little protection even against cruisers - Edit: forgot "cannot overmatch a great many other ships, not even many cruisers, since the gun caliber is even smaller than on the French tech tree silver BB" - and of course, the main point, pure carrier bait. According to my statistics, on average, Tier VII gets a CV in 50.3% of battles on the EU server. A French BB might get a bit fewer if my conjecture about the matchmaking is anything to go by, since the nationality mirroring means no French CVs can ever be roped in to make up the numbers. (I call it the Friesland effect.) On the other hand, on the NA server, my Lyon got 18% more CVs than my KGV, so ymmv. In any event, up against any semi-conscious CV, you are taking it up the bunghole and that is that. -
50% off 365 days premium and signals
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Jcbturbo's topic in General Discussion
They have what they call "new player protection" or something to that effect, where you are mostly playing against bots, even in Random battles, for a certain number of battles or until you have reached tier V or something. Many players don't even notice, at least for some time. -
OK so WG broke the very Tech Tree itself?!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
I very much remember there having been a time when you were able to free-XP several ships at once, with the game client automatically adding up all the sums, like for Hulls and maybe other modules you needed to "research". That seems no longer possible. I seem to remember it even showed you the required total if you just hovered the research button, and if you didn't have enough, it told you how much was still missing. Today, they make you add it up all by yourself, and in any event, skip each and every single ship manually, so to speak. Now back when we had all those features (we did. didn't we?), they were not very necessary, since back then, skipping ships meant rewarding WG for not playing their content. Especially if you converted the Free XP with doubloons. But these days, that is no longer true, of course, and what you ant to do is get to Tier IX asap in order to only have to risk contracting the carrier plague in about a third of all battles, instead of half to all the battles like on every other tier (except I and II). The background for all these musings is I have been rushing through Kansas on my NA account, which fell out of the early access thing, as it seemed the fastest/best way to get another Tier IX ship for the snowflaking. But now that I'm there, and it was a bit of a grind to grind all those 13 million credits on that F2P account, I'm wondering if I really want to get meself a Minnesota, just to gain another tiny amount of steel, when I could get so many other Tier IX ships instead, even though it would cost me my 365k Free XP. I really don't think it's a bad ship but it depends even more on the team than most others and frankly, the potato density is just too high. -
Unique commanders nerfed under Captain Skill rework?!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
The Flamu Reddit article I shared recently about the Cpt skill rework has been changed. It now says "the unique commanders are being nerfed to the ground". I have not been able to find a source for that claim and what it means specifically. What it has been saying on the dev blog, for quite some time, is "Unique commanders won't become any stronger after the update of the skill system, because we didn't change their talents. As for the enhanced skills, they were only adjusted to the new skill system. We don't believe that they will become more effective and give a bigger edge to their owners than before." https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/104 So should players still get Kuznetsov or no? -
How to find which ships I have not played in randoms?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Sir_Grzegorz's topic in General Discussion
In Port, go to your Profile page (top menu), then to Summary (left side menu). On the right hand side of the Summary, you can select Random Battles, and sort them ships by several criteria. The ships with no Random battles may not show up per se but perhaps it makes the search easier. -

Title says it all. It is an easy grind. So just grind it in case it ends up on some shortlist some day, then never touch it again except for snowflaking. Do not give WG any money, least of all for THIS. -
