Today, as planned, I unlocked and bought Vermont, currently the last remaining tech tree Tier X ship missing in my port, other than the CVs. I did this in order to gain another Snowflake. The small Santa box I received contained five Type 3 - New Year camos. Alternatively, come the captain skill reeework the next patch, the 17 million credits could have bought back 1.7 million of my Commander XP. Which would not even be sufficient to max out two of my current 19-pt Commanders.

One thing I had not really fully realised about this new format is that you don't get promoted to the next league straight away but only in the next sprint. So that means after you pass Quali, the whole Sprint is over for you. On the whole, that feels like a drawback.

All kidding aside, WG player support suggested launching the game in safe mode, and lo and behold, it went away. Some mod actually does seem to be the cause of this. Does anybody perchance have any idea which one it is? The first thing I did was install the latest version of the Aslain mod pack but that did not do the trick. You're of course trying to build some sort of crossfire as best you can, but you cannot stray too far from the lemming train - in any event, not in such a way that multiple enemies have nothing else but you to shoot at. And looking at the specific sitch on the minimap, I should say you need to keep running down into the far corner because the enemy DD is probably after you. The good thing is Yam guns can still get pens and some targets will remain spotted for quite some time.

Did you get the guided anti-ship missiles instead?

Well yes, it is completely wonky. That does not let Microsoft off the hook though. There should be mandatory programming standards, set and enforced by the operating system and its manufacturer for such things. By way of illustration, I have a similar issue with the VLC media player on this machine, which is my preferred video player and which I'd of course like to be associated with all video files. It isn't though, Windows refuses to let it be associated with .mkv and maybe other file types. Now here I was, thinking I could apply my new-found wisdom to the VLC issue in the same way. Turns out though the registry keys in question look totally different, besides there being some additional folders like HKCR\MKVFILES and HKCR\VLC.mkv, neither of which contain a simple file path which some innocent user could just simply and easily fix if it was broken by setting it manually to vlc.exe But that seems really more and more off topic here so I'll stop now.

Hi, of late, I can't watch replays any more because for some reason, my PC has started refusing to open those with any other program than Avidemux, which then promptly crashes. The filetype .wowsreplay seems set to that program as default instead of WoWs, no idea why. Even if I specifically select the WoWs .exe, it still tries to use Avidemux. And it (viz the Windows 7 OS) also refuses to let the filetype be reset to a different standard program than Avidemux, for some reason. If anybody has a fix for that, I'd be eternally grateful.

It worked! Turns out the path in the registry was still the one from my previous client installation for the EU client, which I uninstalled when they made the change that you could once again play different regional servers with the same client instance. I hate Microsoft so so much. How they manage to achieve so little with so much money and all the ressources in the world will forever remain beyond my understanding.

So Qualification is now the new Ranks 6-4: Loads of 43% muppets that yet somehow did manage to qualify on my team, lots of unicorns and/or CVs on the other. One step forward, two steps back.
