Coop vs Random RN missions etc Have you increased Coop play
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Gnirf's topic in General Discussion
Of course I have. It speeds up farming the rewards considerably. For example, the directives where you need a certain amount of capping (assist), defender, torp hits or ship destructions can be farmed in a single short co-op mission if you are lucky and get Domination mode, and if you got a British DD and timed it right and unlocked enough follow-up stages, you could conceivably even farm the British-DDs-set-five-fires directive and be halfway through the any-ship-set-15-fires directive in the same go. Or use these easy farming missions to unlock as many stages simultaneously as possible in co-op, then play Random battles to work on several of the XP and credit grinding directives simultaneously.- 36 replies

Upcoming T5 Ranked
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
OK so apropos of nothing, I did this Tier V AA comparison and it turns out, if all my calculations are correct, that on a Nicholas with full manual AA build, with all flags, AA mod 2 upgrade and using the x4(!) Defensive AA consumable, the sum of long range and midrange AA DPS actually exceeds that of a stock Texas by 20 DPS and is more than twice that of the strongest Tier V (stock) cruiser AA. Only it starts at a much longer range of max 7.21 km, which is also where most of the DPS sets in already, with 135 DPS, while the midrange comes into play at 4.45 km, adding another 72 DPS. While still no Kidd, I expect this to be able to down a few Tier V planes. I think I'm gonna try this, just to troll my dear carrier players, even though it means skipping Radio Location and Superintendent. -
The best tutorials far and wide are Flamu's imho. Flambass is amusing to watch but he doesn't go for a methodical or even systematic approach, he just drops the odd nugget of wisdom here and there while streaming. Only problem is sometimes altered game mechanics or ship buffs/nerfs render some of his older content obsolete and it is not always easy to figure out which.

Make it so that in the Commander Skill Builder, a second click on a selected skill unselects that skill. https://worldofwarships.com/en/content/captains-skills/ That way, users would no longer need to reset a complete build just to change one or two skills.

This isn't gonna age well ;-))) (To be precise: This is only because there are no premium ships on the test server, especially no Kamikaze and GC.)

Reworked Torpedo Warning: Once Again WG overshoots target
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
In the upcoming update 0.7.9.10, we will be treated to a revised version of the torpedo warning. While no doubt many players will appreciate they will now receive far fewer warnings, because they can get on your nerves, in my view, WG has done too much. It turns out you will no longer get any false alarms at all. It's not just about torpedoes that have no chance of hitting your ship on its current trajectory. You will not even get warnings any more against deep water torpedoes headed directly for your ship - if you are in a ship they can't hit. My view is that is overdoing it and dumbing down the game too much. Deciding if an onrushing spread of torps is a threat is a skill you no longer need to develop now, and as such, this measure constitutes a buff of torp targets as well as a nerf of (stealthy) torp ships. In other words, once again the IJN torpedo DDs get the shaft.- 42 replies

OP Tier V Cruisers?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
<slow clap> Emerald eats HE citadels from some destroyers even. It needs to be played so as to avoid being shot there in the first place. -
operations Operations - Still worth it for the common players?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Hyperion84's topic in General Discussion
Last week I played a lot of Raptor Rescue, there was a special incentive in that it was a part of the Royal Navy Arc, and that obviously kept the good players longer on that mission than the usual first two, three days after the rotation of the Op of the Week. Basically a string of five stars cause everybody knew what they were doing. It had indeed been made a lot harder than it used to be but I get the feeling they toned it down a bit more again in the latest iteration. Today's Narai was a different matter, largely because of the substandard level of play. A single DD should be enough to deal with the freighters escaping to the West. But nooo, usually one or two cruisers feel the need to tag along and farm some damage. Predictable result: the channel transports sail into the bay with no escort and are of course immediately deleted. As soon as you get a team that knows what needs doing, Narai is also absolutely doable, maybe except if they bring to many DDs. But even so, I mean didn't they change the shore batteries so you now can do module and fire damage, so you actually can knock them out even with a DD in a finite amount of time?- 17 replies

Believe it or not (albeit from this Emerald lover), that is actually a fun ship and much better than her reputation. People getting ripple fired by her never can believe there's actually still more guns to the broadside even after the fifth shell has gone out. It's basically two Okhotniks tied together side by side. (Sadly also at more than twice the Okhotnik's concealment...)

Reworked Torpedo Warning: Once Again WG overshoots target

Well no, that is intentionally confusing. The more confusion about Yet Another In-Game Currencies, the easier it is to goad players into spending actual money. -
Reworked Torpedo Warning: Once Again WG overshoots target
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
That's the part I hate most of all. Which might have something to do with the fact I feel downright castrated and helpless in a DD anyway if i can't torp other DDs. -
Yeah for that to work, WG just have to let you put four speed flags on the ship at once. Or something... To the contrary. Most DDs are almost exactly as effective at 5% as they are at 95% at most of their most important tasks. All they can no longer do is knife fighting other DDs and torp larger ships while being spotted inside secondary range.

There's only one thought - it goes completely without saying that of course Wargaming will not even consider doing any such thing because they view the whole Ranked Sprint business as a quick and dirty bit of love for, literal quote by the spokeswoman in the youtube video, "newcomers and casual players". See below. I think they once again have not fully thought through what will happen, neither with respect to the two OP premium ships on Tier V nor the level of interest it would generate with a sizeable fraction of the hardcore, highly experienced and fanatical part of the player base. Let alone the conflict with the Halloween event playing out in parallel. Either that or there is some evil overlord snickering away in a hidden lair somewhere who actually wants all this to be this way. Edit: I would not even be surprised if they rolled out Kamikaze and Giulio Cesar in the premium shop in the form of the usual Ranked bundles. (I'd of course be first in line to buy them.) (And maybe then discover that they've been brutally castrated nerfed for "re-balance".)

Get a good premium battleship of middling to higher tier. Learn how to survive and do decent damage. Max out the captain as quickly as possible (i.e. don't play a lot of anything else until he is maxed out.) Only spend money on a premium account once there is a decent discount, like when they sold a year's worth for 60 Euros last year. The cheapest way should currently be to just play the Royal Navy Arc until you have enough sovereigns for a Warspite. Then play some more and exchange the sovereigns for the Bert Dunkirk commander. Put him on your highest tier British silver BB and play him on that one and Warspite every day at least until the first daily win (for the bonus). Play him on any RN DDs you might have, for as long as they retain their premium status. Similarly, you could get an Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya for coal from the Arsenal, but it might be a better idea to spend the coal on things you can't get for money/doubloons instead, and just spend the money in the premium shop. Or use doubloons, especially if you got the 4K bonus doubloons last weekend for purchases in excess of 40 Euros in the Premium shop. As you can see from my little spreadsheet, she is a few Euros cheaper if you buy enough doubloons at once. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GdW79l1hAu7cDeP6R-zKDkR6F6M2Jjv0YJLdUULC-hE/edit#gid=1685859868 Another good alternative would be Nelson if you have the free XP or are willing to spend some money for doubloon conversion, but you should wait until the next discount when you get 35 Free XP per doubloon instead of just 25. Texas is cheap but desperately powercrept. However, until the CV rework at least, her AA is valuable in many games. The main thing to consider when buying premium ships, besides having fun playing them, is how well they fit into your captain training schemes for the lines you are currently grinding, because you can just swap the commander without retraining for gold, and any retraining penalty doesn't apply on the premium ship. Also try to stay current on any goodies available through events, campaigns and combat missions, and spot ways to quickly farm them. To that end, definitely get at least one of the "dumb" Tier V aircraft carriers.

Which is probably why they did it, if yo have enough bad faith ;-) One of the only things I dislike about the format is that it will overlap with the Halloween event so you have to split your playing time. -
What premium BB to buy with doubloons
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Ocsimano18's topic in General Discussion
Tirpitz captain would obviously work well on Scharnhorst, as well as any other German BB, brawling / Secondaries build. So the benefit is you could use that one captain on three different ships at least (because you would of course specialize him to your top German Silver BB) and that way, max him out quickly, and after that, use him to grind Elite Commander XP. Three or more daily first win bonuses alone. In fact I use mine in a round robbin on all of my German premium ships. In addition to AFT, he has IFHE and DE instead of BFT to really spice up those secondaries, and that works great on Emden, König Albert and is not even too bad on Graf Spee. Although it would be even better if he had PT instead of PM. Don't have any German premium DDs and he would not work very well on those, I expect. From a similar point of view, I'd actually recommend getting an Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya. Super fun ship that I actually blew coal on which might have been a mistake, but which I should have bought much sooner, all things considered. Can be used in the upcoming Ranked Sprint and I expect it to do not too badly. I use my top Russian DD captain, which is good and will be even better once he gets AFT. Besides his specialized Minsk, that same guy gets used on Murmansk, Krasny Krim, Okhotnik and Leningrad, most of which premium ships I got through one discount or another. I would like a decent Japanese premium BB but sadly, they're all dogs, with the possible exception of Ishizuchi, but that is not easy to play well either. Another premium which gives me great joy despite its bad citadel eating habit is of course Nelson , helmed by either of the Dunkirk brothers, and it would not be much more expensive than any other premium BB if you convert some Free XP during a discount phase.- 48 replies

Upcoming T5 Ranked
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Hardcore fans of this game like the ones discussing this thread Any players who like Tier V ships but are fed up with sucky matchmaking and constantly being uptiered Any players who dislike high tier battles of any description Any players who hate radar but don't want to go back to the low tiers all the time They may not all be the most skilled players. But I'm confident about the motivation. And even fairly new players will have an easy time getting their hands on a suitable ship they like to play. -

I completely agree!!1 The goal of unlocking as many Tier X ships as possible and fighting as many boring fun and engaging high tier waitfests BATTLES is much MUCH more desirable and worthwhile than the prospect of fighting only same tier opponents in highly motivated groups and pitiful, un-gimmicky mid tier ships!!1 It's completely NOT as if this was the single most anticipated event in basically all the time I've been playing this game!!1 NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG FOLKS!!!1 -

Why are we forced to be in divisions to play operations
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Majora753's question in Q&A Section
My guess would be the goal is to ensure that there are almost always enough players in the queue for at least one of the OPs (the Op of the week) to keep waiting times short. -

Actually, I just did some penetration testing in a training room and not even that much is true. Don't know if it's been buffed since, or if it's a change in game mechanics since those Youtube videos were made, or if the reviewers were just talking BS, but I got full AP pens even at slight angles at 12 to 13 km range on Algerie and Myoko. You would shoot HE anyway at larger distances, what with a decent fire chance and possibly IFHE... granted, the ship is slow and has terrible concealment and the slow shell ballistics are not everbody's cup of tea but against same-Tier opponents, the one thing it is definitely not lacking for is firepower. Got it only yesterday as part of my parcel to take advantage of those 4K bonus doubloons you get for €40 purchases this weekend, and I have to say, the two games in her were the most fun I had all day, apart from the two Belfast kills. -
Don't know about the dock thingy, but the whole divisioning process could be a bit more intuitive and the usability streamlined.

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think Krasny can do rather well in ranked and you don't even need to be a Unicum either. The ship's main problem in Random is the matchmaking against Tier 7, where it can't even pen many cruisers. Which it won't meet in Ranked. Other than that, it is in many respects a better Svietlana, and Svietlana at Tier IV is a great ship. Crapload of guns, better AA than Murmansk, and since it's a premium, everybody can just use their top Russian DD captain with AFT and BFT and what not.
