Remove Friendly Fire Damage!!!!!!! Plz Now!
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to anonym_2hneAFaIyP4T's topic in General Discussion
They can always turn them off. In fact I've been suggesting something of the opposite, making AA fire more realistic by having it damage friendly planes that fly into the flak zone as well... -
Let's do this in reverse - what's the WORST ship for the Ranked Sprints?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Tyrendian89's topic in General Discussion
Also Marblehead hardly has any AA at all. I'm really surprised there weren't a lot more carriers in my very limited sample of yesterday. -

So I've been helping to hype Ranked Sprint as best I could. So as expected, all the unicums and wannabes with their overpowered premiums are now there, slugging it out amongst themselves, allowing noobs like me to have a few relaxed high tier Random Battles for once, grinding out Tier X ships in peace and doing things you never really got around to until now, like acquiring the last 300K of commander XP to max out my top Russian guy. Followed up with some relaxed Sealclubbing in Ranked Sprint next week, when all the Kamikaze kiddies have long ranked out. Always be anticyclic. -

Ok, played a bit more Ranked Sprint. Remarkably, two out of the three games had NO DDs but cruisers instead, and the DDs in the third one were both Acastas. Also there actually did seem to be many fairly new players in the mix, not too competent game play overall, which of course meant that seals did in fact get clubbed. Edit: Also I find it remarkable that the weedy Königsberg AA (second weakest cruiser AA on tier V?) downed almost as many planes for about the same amount of squads that came in range as a single pop of the Nicholas full manual AA troll build Defensive AA fire. I mean the latter has ~3 km more range and nearly six(!) times the DPS (only counting mid and long range.) -

Well you asked me to chose ;-) Still not sure what the point of that was. I think except for those two OP premiums (and of course the carriers), Tier V is really fairly well balanced. We could all agree to just play silver ships with the regular Captains we have on them from now on... but I was really looking forward to my Königsberg experiment though. (Also 1K gold is not even 8 Euros if you buy it by the chest... come on.) -

Many have said that, but I don't know. Probably have a hard time and be fairly useless in a game with a carrier since it has practically no AA at all. Other than that, play it as intended, don't get hit, kill DDs since your 19pz captain of course has RPF and everything, and you're fine. So luck of the draw basically. I could be persuaded that Jianwei is really shitty, but then I saw a Mutsuki hold her own today as well, so... -

Yeah well, that is not a shitty ship for Ranked in my opinion. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Neither is Emerald imho, but haven't tried that yet. -

New York. I wasn't completely serious btw, first game this morning was of course Ranked Sprint, in my AA troll Nicholas, which worked out great even though I did forget to bring my premium consumables and got killed after three minutes or so... still... capped two one caps, killed 7 planes and a DD, so I'm claiming a yuge part of that victory despite staying below 4K damage <g> The thing is though, I did want to level up my Russian commander before the next round, and the ensuing high tier games really did feel a lot less hectic than usual despite the normal amount of being uptiered x2 and it was basically a string of victories, which is not what I'm really used to when strapping on my Missouri, much less the Friedrich. But the best feeling all day, if not all month was just now when dispatching my first Kami in my freshly maxed out Krasny Krym <g> (again forgetting to load up the premium consumables and any signal flags) After all this hype, and some really difficult Random battles where that ship really did make me feel rather helpless, somehow it felt even better than a Belfast kill. Either the opponents weren't very experienced despite having a Kami and a GC or my ship was just not taken seriously. Or possibly both. Flambass reinforced the "cruisers will be totally blapped and wasted" message again this morning, maybe it's reverse psychology on his part, too That poor Emerald had grounded when I shot him up, god knows how often I do crap like that myself. Then again, the cruiser was the one that came first on HIS team, too, probably because it was he who killed our Okhotnik, their only kill... Either way I'm happy, I just fear it will be over too soon. Contrary to some other people, I feel the need to not rush through this in a single afternoon but really savor it and draw it out as long as possible. So far it is the best thing happening in this game since free captain skill redistribution week. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Tyrendian89's topic in General Discussion
Yes well, it is a premium so doesn't even take gold to swap in a decent captain. As in "just click on your top Russian DD commander." Although AFT is a double-edged sword on Krasny Krim. She already has terrible base concealment and with AFT, the bloom after firing is seen across the complete small low-tier map. On the other hand, with the slow shells, the extra range isn't that useful. It's not quite as bad as the French 139mm guns (for example) but still. I am considering a redistribution. Not in Ranked Sprint where you can't bring T4 ships. -

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Tyrendian89's topic in General Discussion
For the same reasons you bring cruisers everywhere, of course: To support other ships. Hydro against the Kamikazes. Pour in HE from the second row or across islands. Add in some AA while being better able to dodge torp drops and hopefully not be deemed valuable enough to merit cross drops. Any DD can push into your God tier smoke without any torp risk whatsoever, torp you and light you up for his back-up. A little slower than radar but just as final. This happens rarely in Random because it takes a minimum of teamwork, trust and coordination but in Ranked, with divisions, it should be bog standard. Yes, but if you buy your doubloons by the chestful (as you should), the cost of retraining your 19-pointer and redistributing all his skillpoints is only around €3.26. Double that if you plan to transfer the dude back afterwards and redistribute again before the next free redistribution week. -

I am a bit torn between Bretagne and New York. Bretagne was the worst grind that I remember, but that could well be because I have already repressed the memory of the New York grind... at least she has much better AA and in contrast to NY with its 76mm flak guns, you could at least theoretically benefit from manual AA on Bretagne. And her guns can really hurt. Both are very slow at 21 knots. Bretagne was one of the few ships where I had the urge to immediately sell it after unlocking the follow-up, although I really can't think of a single good reason why I kept the NY around when owning a Texas. Personally though, I'd probably do worst in Kirov and Podvoisky. But Kirov has at least potential, with some very good and long range AA, the speed and those hard hitting main guns. Not the guns clearly. I like Mutsuki, she used to be one of my best ships, but if you hit a Kamikaze in Ranked in a Mutsuki (or even just a Minekaze btw) you either need to have a lucky torp hit, or have some really solid back-up to kill the Kami quickly for you. Otherwise you will be screwed. -
Broken installation - get my mods going again
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a question in Tech Corner
Hi, so far I have not managed to get the Aslain mode pack going again on my system, and Customer Service would probably tell me to do a complete reinstall. Which is what I'd like to try, but then I couldn't play for something like three days, which I'd of course like to avoid, expecially during this very patch. So I was wondering if anybody would mind feeding setting up a bittorrent of the installed Windows game client for me? I mean what harm could it do... -

Wallet Warrior's Gold Guide

OK, so Wargaming keep having these special offers of very old premiums, like Yubari for €4.49 and Texas for €8.99, and you get compensated in doubloons if you already have those ships. And since there once used to be a similar deal where you really got a crapload of doubloons out of your second Texas, some people seem to think it is still a good idea to do that. It most emphatically is not a good idea. As you can clearly read in the description of the items, it says you get 997 doubloons for the Yubari and 2220 doubloons for Texas, so you are paying .45 of a cent or .40 of a cent for one doubloon, respectively, which is a lot more than if you buy a chest of doubloons (=roughly .33 of a cent per doubloon). In fact, .45 is the top exchange rate, which you pay when buying the smallest possible amount of 500 doubloons directly, and even if you buy just 2500 doubloons, your exchange rate already drops below .40 of a cent. (To say nothing of the Stars'n Stripes perma camo you got in that package back then, which was what actually made me do it, and which you currently don't get any more.) -
Arms Race - a Failure or not?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Tl; dr: I wouldn't call it a failure per se, at least not a complete one. I appreciated it as an intriguing and creative idea in principle and the whole arcady-ness did not turn me off, which was an initial concern. However, I would much rather have played this in low tier ships. Especially German front torp DDs. Since I dislike high tier gameplay, that was a big minus from the start, especially with the ridiculous new IJN gunboats and more or less unintentionally OP USN HE spammers. It was pointed out to me that a Tier IV Arms race would worsen Tier V matchmaking. Also, one of the WG representatives said they hoped to "take some pressure off of Tier VIII" or words to that effect. To that, I can only say if you want to fix the matchmaking on any given tier - and boy, does Tier VIII ever need fixing - then fix that tier's matchmaking, please. Don't invent more top tier game modes and kinda sorta hope the improvement just happens as a side effect. Just imagine what Yoda or the Karate Kid sensei would say to that kind of approach. And next, I decided to try the new mode on the live server, where it turned out that surprisingly, the waiting times are a lot longer than they had been on the test server. Found out that although many Tier X players liked the Arms Race in principle, they preferred other modes because they could not grind their legendary upgrades in Arms Race. Now since this causality seemed fairly open and shut, I firmly expected WG to just do a quick mini update over night and fix it for them and let them grind their upgrades in Arms Race, but no such thing happened. Can't imagine that kind of change being very complicated on the technical side so that really leaves me wondering. -
Has the tier VIII MM been altered?

Can't say that it felt much different. Currently grinding two T8 BBs which I basically play each day until the first win. -
Guineas & Cossack - Rip Off or do I have a math problem?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to 2key4wn8's question in Q&A Section
That is what I understand. It's easy to get confused though because there was once again a confusingly phrased news update today (https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-079-royal-navy/) and it was just made plain in the follow-up discussion thread that you cannot earn any more sovereigns after completing the current stage of the Royal Navy Arc and won all the containers there are to win this week. (I think you can still buy more RN containers in the shop after Thursday though, which contain 15 sovereigns each.) The RN Arc itself goes on for two more months and obviously must contain ways to earn the remaining guineas. -
Update 0.7.10 British Destroyers - Discussion Thread
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
See, now that is something different from what is says in the news article. The news article states that there have been missions with sovereigns as a reward - sovereigns not contained in containers, from the chosen formulation - and that those missions will cease to have sovereigns as a reward but that more RN containers will be forthcoming as rewards for missions. That's basically the only way the phrase "still be available in standard and premium containers" can be understood in English. What I'd like to know even more urgently though is this: As I understand it, the British DDs Acasta, Icarus, Jervis and Lightning, dropped from the occasional container, will lose their quasi-Premium status this Thursday. What, then, happens to the commanders on those ships? Will they become specialized to the DD they're on? Will players be able to send them back to the ships they were specialized on, will they have to undergo retraining on the DDs? -
Developer Bulletin 0.7.10 - no more sovereigns?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Tin_Kan's topic in Archive
From the news just now: "When Update 0.7.10 goes live, Sovereigns will no longer be issued for completing missions, but will still be available in Premium and standard containers throughout Update 0.7.10. Exchange your well-deserved resources for a wide variety of valuable rewards in the Arsenal until the end of the current update." I have to confess I was not aware of any missions (or directives or whatever) that had sovereigns as rewards. Which were those? I thought sovereigns only came in the RN containers. https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-0710-halloween/ Edit: the matter has since been clarified, no more containers as of the update tomorrow and hence no more sovereigns. -
Waiting times are too long, indicating the new mode is - so far - a partial failure. We all know why that is (no grinding of legendary upgrades possible) and I should have thought it was a super easy fix that did not necessitate a major upgrade.

Poll on WG points mentioned during CV rework video
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to KarmaQU_EU's topic in General Discussion
The barefaced cheek with which the guy in the video dared to flatly deny that the terrible UI plus absence of manuals and tutorials had anything - ANYTHING!1! - to do with the lack of player interest - - it simply boggles the mind. -
It might really be worth considering to double the rotation speed of the weekly Operation because standard of play really goes steeply downhill after three, four days.
