OK, I am moderately excited about the latest Value-for-money update: They took some premium ships out of the tech tree while making a few more other premium ships available to purchase in-game for doubloons. So if you made use of the October discount and/or bought a chestful with your coupons the other weekend, both of which got you an exchange rate of only 0,002620 Euro cents per doubloon, there is now another chance to make a small killing. And the new selection includes several ships over which I've been nursing a semi for some time! As per the news bulletin, https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-0711-rule-britannia/#content under "Content Additions and Changes", gone are Prinz Eugen, Duke of York, Arizona, Katori, Kii, and Aigle. Newly available are now Texas - Sims - Indianapolis Admiral Graf Spee - Z-39 Hood Ishizuchi - Mutsu - Atago(!) Okhotnik Dunkerque Duca degli Abruzzi Anshan My client has not quite finished updating, so I can't look up the doubloon prices just yet. But if they kept the prices for ships that used to be sold from the Tech Tree earlier, as an example, that would mean a price of €13.10 for the Sims, instead of almost 20 Euros regular store price. And the Atago goes for €28.03 instead of €39.08. In the spreadsheet, I'll highlight the new ships in green in the A column and set the prices of all currently unavailabe ships to light grey. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GdW79l1hAu7cDeP6R-zKDkR6F6M2Jjv0YJLdUULC-hE/edit#gid=1685859868 -
In the description, it says "The Filth will be seizing more and more of the sea’s surface, narrowing the safe zone for your ships. Beyond the safe zone, ships rapidly lose their HP!" That doesn't make sense. The premise of the whole thing is that now we're on the other side. Players are the bad guys and drive the baddies' ships. The Filth is supposed to heal the Denizens of Rasputin, not hurt them. It should therefore be the other way round: players should be permantly within The Filth, with the disgustingly Ffilthtless real world encroaching upon them.

... but I feel i should point out that all of a sudden, one of my regular German commanders seems to have found out he is in fact the long-lost third Dunkirk brother.

I'm gonna regret this...

It's a bug or glitch or something. That was just a normal captain until the day before yesterday. Then for some unknown reason, he suddenly sprouted these unique abilities. Also I'm not even certain he actually has them. Maybe it's just the wrong icons. The turret traverse on the Albert feels as painfully slow as ever. (A real Dunkirk brother makes an appreciable difference even on Nelson.) If he stays that way until the next free skill points redistribution week, I'll try the other unique skill and we'll see. -
Easier to get used to?! When all the consumables are in the same row, right next to each other, same as on the monitor, except one? And which one it is, even changes on some ships?

Well, there's of course always the odd joker who brings an Atlanta...
-
As an anecdote, i feel the need to point out that on a German keyboard, the locations of the z and y keys are reversed (which the default WoWs bindings of course do not reflect). Sometimes I'm really curious how many people actually drive around like that in WoWs without ever changing it.

Nonono, that's just one of his side gigs err, his "recreational yacht"!1 -
Most cruisers should stay behind the BBs at the start anyway if they know what's good for them. Pushing has little to do with speed and Warspite can do it just fine.
-
I'd say get a Warspite for your sovereigns in the Arsenal if you have enough. You could also consider both Hood and Nelson, especially if you made use of any of the recent doubloon discounts. The latter is still going to be pricy even if you wait for the next Free XP conversion discount, but the more you play and the longer you wait, the cheaper she gets. Not tanky at all but a good number of great big guns and an overpowered super heal. Also since the guns are physically so close together, she's outstanding for blapping DDs, which is great fun. Hood is basically the opposite, extremely tanky if you know how to angle but the guns are somewhat weedy and the dispersion is trolly at times. In any event, you can get one of the Dunkirk brothers as commander. Considering you are a fairly new player, you might want to stick to lower/middling tiers though, so maybe try the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya. You can even get it for relatively little coal from the Arsenal, which would be beneficial if you don't decide to stick with the game after all because then you would have not invested any real money. (Personally, I'd rather spend the real money though because the coal can get you things you cannot get for money.) Also you can get the unique Ovechkin captain if you don't have him already. If you got a Japanese ship, you'd either need to grind a decent captain or four-star the operation "Defense of Naval Station Newport". For a 10-pt German captain, four-star operation "Killer Whale" and for a French guy, it's "Dynamo". Roma is also a nice ship but you'd need to grind the captain all the way yourself, so that's a better buy if you already have several other maxed-out captains and can use their Elite commander XP to fast forward the Italian guy. EDIT: and of course it's Tier VIII so you'd blow real money to buy into the suckiest matchmaking in the game.

Well, not to unduly politicize this forum but there are far worse things national fervor could be doing to Britain these days <g> -

Hunh?! In https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-079-royal-navy/ it clearly says there are four stages to each Update?! "Each of the three versions covering the entire Royal Navy event consists of four Stages, each lasting one week." Four guineas, four stages in 0.7.11. makes 16 Guineas by my reckoning? Times 3 for the three Updates this whole event stretches across, makes 48, which is the total number of guineas I clearly remember being communicated. -

As per the news announcement, the RN arc will continue all the way through the upcoming next patch. So it should be 16 more Guineas in Update 0.7.11. -
Unreal high power consumption in the port / harbor?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to No_color_DK's topic in Archive
Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Would also go a long way toward explaining the sucky laggy port interface. But did I actually agree to that? Is it in the Terms and conditions? Because I mean, that drastically changes things. If that is in fact true, then there is no such thing as playing "for free". It would make every F2P player in fact a paying customer because he rents out his system to WG. I don't think you could even really use terms like "services offered free of charge" as per the EULA because in fact none of the services would actually be free of charge, would they? And that in turn would affect the liability clause. -
Why is there an O.i.t.n.B. Camo in the game?
FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor posted a topic in General Discussion
OK, so I bit once more and bought the big camo pack. And now I'm reluctant to even use the camos because I paid real money, even though it was only 30 cents per camo or so. And they create havoc in my port. For example, the "LIDL" Type 1, 2 and 5 camos you can buy for credits now no longer neatly follow each other. Granted, strictly speaking, their sequence had already been interrupted by the Halloween camos. But now, there are three different Type 3 camos crammed between Type 2 and Type 5! In short: my deep seated mental issues include being a hoarder, along with a dash of OCD maybe. Also evidenced by my creating this lil spreadsheet where you can sort the camos according to which ones give the biggest bonuses: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ONv6CVw20qGRsGglarice7Jt9I0Rp069wRpVsmgOxHE/edit?usp=sharing But WHAT does "Orange is the new Black" have to do with the game? Why is there an O.I.T.N.B. Camo? It seems to be part of a group of four which is not mentioned in the Wiki. The other ones are called "Crimson Tear", "Brilliant Ray" and "Red Soul". -

True, but that goes without saying for everything in this forum, with very rare exceptions. -
Yeah I still wonder how that is even possible for regular human beings. I mean I don't doubt they exist, I've seen high tier players with insanely low battle numbers myself. However. Ballpark figure: You need 916,450 XP to unlock a "barebones" Yamato from scratch, i.e. while skipping any upgrades that you don't have to have to progress through the tech tree. Doing that in 200 battles means on average you need to gain more than 4582 XP per battle. Even if you try to factor in the Free XP gained in these battles, and let's say it's seven per cent on average due to container drops etc, you still need average battle results of more than 4553 XP. IF you manage to focus all that XP on a single line. And don't forget, during most of this time you don't even have really great Commander skills for the respective tiers. If you did nothing else and managed to focus all the XP on a single commander, you could still only barely level up that captain to 17 skill points at most. And even that is based on gaining, on average, 20% extra commander XP over the ship XP.
-
No you don't. All you have until then is a single Tier MM spread, so you can only be uptiered by at most one Tier.

Per the wiki: "Account level also influences matchmaking. Through level 10, players in Tier I-IV matches are less likely to face highly experienced opponents. " You reach Account Level 10 when you have accumulated a total of 22,000 XP. That's a few hundred XP shy of the total amount needed to unlock a Tier V ship if you stick to a single line. Assuming you manage to get an average 400 XP per game, that's about 55 battles. EDIT: In my opinion, these actual facts void every counter argument levelled against the OP so far. They reflect peoples' foggy memory of their early days which doesn't reflect accurately what is going on. This newbie protection is inadequate, and I know highly experienced players like Flamu agree. Listen to his remarks in connection with the pink Derzki player on his team in this recent video about the low tier US cruiser line, during/after the match in the Phoenix (starts after about a half hour into the video below). The thing is though, I suspect there aren't enough "inexperienced" players (= with a low number of battles) in the game as it is. The newbie protection also means that empty spaces on both teams are filled with bots even in Random battles, which many new players don't even seem to realize. Often there are only two or three humans in there, to keep waiting times short. Otherwise I imagine they would be longer than current Tier I and II waiting times, which are mostly ridiculously long.

Equal pay for equal work is among the most urgent demands of feminists everywhere. Therefore I move that the bonuses of the "International Women's Day" camouflage henceforth not only include 100% extra XP, Commander XP and Free XP but also 100% extra Credits.

FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
That's exactly what I mean. The data shows no such thing. There is no way to know how long players with a lot of Free XP or a lot of credits have been in the game. Et cetera. -
