    Playing tier 5

Hi all. So I'm considered a noob by many, so I might as well ask here. Once I got to tier 5, I noticed a substantial amount of battles I am playing vs tier 7 ships. Now I recollect someone mentioned playing as tier 5 doesn't get you bottom tier battles more then being top tier, but now that I've got 4 tier 5 ships instead of 1 and played more battles in tier 5, I keep getting into tier 7 battles most of the time and getting chewed up, oneshotted, outspotted, the high masts of my ships makes me spottable even when behind an island, I get outranged, my torps have too few range and etc and etc. I play more badly because of this and this way I also get less XP and this way it takes longer to even get to tier 6. With battleships I at least can do something, even though I get outranged and with DD I can still do my usual DD stuff (but I still don't like being thrown into a meatgrinder most of the time). So I got 2 questions, basically. 1) How can I make the best of playing my tier 5 cruisers while being bottom tier? Will this get better once I get my own tier 7 ships? 2) Is there any particular reason why I'm put up against tier 7 ships in over half of all my tier 5 battles?

German Carrier Line & Suggested planes (WIP)

I think this is a pretty good thought out (mostly paper) tech tree! However, like others have mentioned I would prefer other lines to be completed first, especially some battlecruiser lines with esepcially Derfflinger/Mackensen because I like the look of these ships and because they appear so similar to Kongo and I really like Kongo xD I would however suggest to not have tiers 9 and 10 be conversions of Scharnhorst and Bismarck but conversions of O-class Battlecruiser (which is slightly larger in dimensions compared to Scharnhorst) and conversion of first H-class battleship. This would also make more sense since both Bismarcks and both Scharnhorsts are already in the game and the H-class was already laid down but halted. Shinano also got converted due to suddenly needing more CVs, one could see some possible future where the Germans thought the same and they could've asked their Japanese allies for technical assistance.

I think Flint is rediculous. I think top players should deserve harder to play ships instead so they can improve their skill more and become good with any ship no matter how bad the ship is ^^

    Playing tier 5

Kinda yes, but the main thing is that I have completed the grind of my most important tier 5 cruisers. Some I even completed the tier 6 grind by now. And as I start my way in tier 7, tier 8 will be waiting for me and I'm not really looking forward to it. But now I can definitely contribute with at least my longer ranged BBs. I still have problems playing DD though and I'm starting to swithcing from playing mostly DD to playing BB and C more. I don't really touch CV, even though I have the tier 4 Jap and tier 5 USA CVs unlocked and ready to be bought. I even like Pepsi but now it helps that it's top tier a lot. I even contribute with a stock Pepsi and that's mostly due to matchmaking. So I don't really know.

I like this suggestion. However, perhaps when adding this clan search tag, disable it by default so only people who are actively scouting for people can see the clan searching tags.

GZ TEST 1 NEEDS IMMEDIATE BUFF

If the GZ was so good before its release, why did WG even nerf it to begin with?

    New Operation

How about first more for 6 and 7 ones first? :P I forgot to check this, but I did get 5 of each special flag on the test server so I presume that for me at least the reward was handed out? But just to be sure I got another 4 stars earlier today xD The enemy CV now does spawn. We didn't manage to kill it but it was visible near the repair area where our last remaining cruiser was holding out till missions end. We had 2 mediocre players and 5 that did their jobs well and apart from killing the enemy CV, we managed to get all other 4 stars :) I played using my KGV and went to the top right part of the map first. I ended up having to stick in the sick bay repair area because my 5 heals had run out. The mission is pretty touch but it is doable if you know what you're doing and we got 4 stars in 1 attempt with only 5 players pulling their weight. It'll be different with a team of random poor players, but it's a tier 7 mission after all. In short: I find it a touch mission but apart from the initial bugs, it's doable (at least for BBs). It does seem harder when starting out as cruiser or CV. At the start of the mission, the enemy fleet that spawns left of the long island with the holes in it, makes it hard for the CV to survive?

    New Operation

So far I like the new operation. It'll keep you very busy without it being impossible. We also haven't been able to find that carrier yet. I don't find this operation to be frustrating, but with a CV it seemed impossible due to a single Cleveland spawning on the right side of the map. So far 3 attempts and the max as of yet is 3 stars. It seems quite difficult to defend the forts as the bots seem to prioritize them and noone really knows what they should be doing. The enemies seem to come in waves that are well balanced, I don't think it's too much of a differencew compared to the tier 6 operations I've played so far. I do play these operations a lot though, even more so then randoms. I think these kinds of coop are a really good addition to randoms and I'd like to see more of them! :)

It was the latter case. I was too slow to flee, there was nothing I could do :( I do complain here and there but Flint is just rediculous. It's a legal hack, zero skill. But anyway, I also wanted to thank everyone for the tips for the Kongo. I get results more similar to this ^^ I did take some risks by even leading the charge for a lil bit at some point but I think my teammates did really well too! I basically tried to get the right distance, angle and be as good a shot as I could be, trying to make every salvo count and it works! :D I got 121k damage even, and yes I was bottom tier xD And no Flint! Yay! God now I wish even more that I had the ARP Kongoes :'( I would've played all 4 of them every day! xD (I only started playing WoWS since last august and I missed out) Thanks again for all people having the patience to teach me, the replay is my gift to you haha! 20171116_175658_PJSB007-Kongo-1942_50_Gold_harbor.wowsreplay

NERF this STUPID BROKEN SHIP "FLINT"!!!

I came across Flint while sayling my New York. Basically something started firing he invisibly at me, wave after wave, I could do nothing, I couldn't even run away as I'm too slow for that. The Flint appeared momentarily and I managed a single salvo, doing 12k damage. He melted me and there was nothing I could do. A real turnoff, this ship will turn tier 5 new players into rage quitters and ships like this WILL damage the game. On top of that the players that have this ship will merely use it for sealclubbing, as the owner of that Flint farmed me for his hp. This is seriously disgusting. I ended up being LAST on my loosing team, the Flint was FIRST on his winning team. It brakes games and a good player playing a legal semi-hack like that simply breaks gameplay. I really hope this ship gets limited or unavailable or gets put in only tier 7 matches where it belongs so players still grinding tier 5 don't have to put up with the OP crap that the Flint is. It's rediculous!

    HMS Incomparable - Possible Premium

I think the main issue seems to be that these ships are hard to balance for the ordinary randoms, but I'd still like to see all kinds of different ideas made into this game. Heck, I thoroughly enjoyed the fantasy ships of the halloween special :D I understood that the Yamato is supposed to have the biggest guns, but I'd like to see some H44 or some super duper Yamato into this game as well. Yes they are fantasy ships but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. How about only being able to use these ships in certain scenarios and in the training room? Or to be able to unlock them from certain ships if you choose to do so? There's endless possibilities if one likes to fantasize and imagine what iffs. I'd also like some other existing ships be made to play into WoWS, like the Derfflinger and Mackensen..mostly because I like Kongo so much :D

I didn't know about A. I basically report stuff that I think is important but at least I use it and I don't abuse it. I do try to call for help and I have to say that usually someone will respond. In that regard this game has some good points. D...I nevver looked at it that way. Thanks for showing me. Now I'm trying to target DDs sooner and I try to get in closer with the battleships. But now I have another problem and it's what I'm supposed to do while in the New York and a Flint starts raining down HE hell on me? Once it started, I was basically dead. From full HP to dead and veeery slowly. The battle had just started and there was nothing I could do. In the end I ran aground but it didn't affect the outcome anyway. I think it shot torpedos too.
  15. NothingButTheRain

    Is Flint really that OP?

I think this thing is really OP. How am I supposed to battle this thing with a New York if I can't see it, if I can't get to it fast enough and if I can't get away from it. What basically happened is something started raining down an insane amount of HE which not only started fires, but also did good pure damage and well...once something like this starts firing at you you're dead. Just dead. Fun!

I read that other part now. It's pretty good, but it's really a shame he invested like half the writing on only more butthurt which only made me not want to bother with anything he said. A simple "If you don't want the salt you gotten in that battle, you could do..." and that's it. That would've been sufficient. I think I'll need to trust my secondaries more. Another thing I don't understand is, how can I view things like chance of starting a fire ingame? It's a bit messy to have to search the wiki page for that information. I haven't tried all of the other stuff yet. I just got home and am tired but will do some more reading later :) And again, it's really really pitiful that a good writing is oversalted by the first half, it was totally unnecessary. Now I'm not the best in English so I apologise if I offended anyone because of it :(

A problem with me is that I sometimes simply do not know what I should do. I do try to use situations to my best advantage, but I'm not really a good judge in seeing these circumstances correctly, not in executing them correctly. I'm still discovering the mechanics of this game and every new tier brings new maps and every map plays differently depending on the ship. The hint about the spotting plane and targetting smoked ships is a really nifty one! I tried that once during scenario but I think I just need to try it out more often. Also I find it hard to keep aiming at the same spot while being zoomed in while the ship is moving (which is almost all the time). Yes, I figured out that that skill that shows how many enemies are aiming at you is actually really good! I've also tried to shoot at ships without the X lockon thing but the distance will always be the ship that you locked on to I think. I'll also sometimes shoot at ships that haven't come into range yet, so they get shells at them without them having gotten any target lock warning. It's not very effective but I think every little bit may help :) I think you're right that this all comes with experience.

Straight from Texas - US Cruiser Line Split

I'm not sure where I asked as I can't find my own post, but what will happen to the permanent second year anniversary camo at tier 8? Will it move with the ship or stay at tier 8?

Thanks!! Thanks, I'm used to zooming in and out due to my experience playing shooters. Knowing how to throw nades helps as well :P I tried several crosshairs and atm use the dynamic crosshair. I do miss the diagonalic lines but I think the dynamic crosshair does a better job for me overall :) I have noticed that my guns are less effective at longer ranges. Though now I'm not even sure what the spotter plane is for. If I could exchange it for a figher plane I probably would. You're correct that I could've used the islands in a better way. I'm not sure if my map is zoomed to the max or not. Probably not? How could this help? My gui may be in need of some tweaking tbh. The reason I stared so much into the sea the first few minutes is because I noticed someone in my team saying something but the list of names of my teammates was overlaying the chat area. The sea is darker, the text is white, so I was trying to read what it said and comparing it to the names in the team list. This really sounds extremely lame xD At some point I tried to kinda cover for the Gneisenau that was being shot at, but frankly I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do that battle. A mistake that I took was to go the long way around that island instead of the short way (when I was kiting that cruiser that I later killed). I didn't notice the Texas was attacking so I couldn't support him. I thought he died pretty quick, don't know why he went in while me and the Gneisenau were behind that island. But Texas is slow, maybe he was at a point of no return? Which brings me to something else I don't really know. The reason why I often sail towards or away from some area is to prevent me showing my broadside. Going towards an area has the risk of me having to turn around whenever I decide it's better to go back. But then I'll have to turn my BB around and this is often an open invitation to red guys waiting to broadside me. This game requires so much calculation and planning ahead and thinking, how fast is that ship going for me to aim my shells at? Where are my teammates? Where could the enemy DDs be? I often don't really know what I'm doing and think of stuff as I go along. In both games I was worried about enemy destroyers at the caps. I think I took quite a risk in the second battle to get that near that cap, esepcially since there was actually a destroyer there. I asked about the citadels on the forums a little while ago and I studied armor designs a bit and did some more reading and watching a couple youtube vids. So now I'll try to aim for that, preferably on a flat broadside. And like I said, I know my ballistic basics ^^. The problem is more with the execution and reading what the enemy is doing. What I did wrong in the second game I think is to let that English BB go with only 5k health left. That could've cost the game. I decided to ignore the people asking for support to cap the left cap as I thought they could handle that 5k UK BB and I was needed more at the other cap, which was being capped. Unfortunately I got there too late. I didn't really notice both DDs had low health and I was worried about that BB on the other side of the cap. I thought going in into a zone with 2 DDs and that BB over there was a bit too risky. But you're right that I had plenty heals left and I didn't consider that. I also happened to have read some comment on this forum or the USA WOWS forum today, which is that it's ok to take a few hits in the beginning as I can heal and the cruisers and destroyers can't, which is really helpful :) Thanks! ^^ I'm also not using any mods. Are there any that are recommended? Frankly I could use a mod that shows which ships have radar and maybe gives some more information on the minimap.

Well the thing about the chat is that it's usually a lot of fun too. It's part of the reason why I play multiplayer games ^^ Also the chat can reveal important bits of information about the battle that is in progress, so I really don't want to have to mute it. I think your advice to ignore those people is best here. And about his "advice", personally I think that someone who is not capable of not going emo while giving advice based on facts and lets his facts get distorted by getting angry over something he wasn't even involved in personally, I don't really see a reason to bother to read it, let alone filter out all his butthurt before being able to apply the advice he is giving me. For all I know he's just trolling me. Things like how you think I read the map or even stuff like "You could've better switched to HE when doing that turn so you had a better shot at that capping DD" or something, that really is much more helpfull. I grant you that educating these people is really hopeless, it's part of the reason why I suggested to keep the game the game and do al the discussions on a discussion board since that's what those are for right? xD

I decided that it was just easier to play another game in the Kongo and guess what? Bottom tier, same map, same side even! xD. Nice way to redeem myself as this one went better but I'm still open to suggestions. I'm not sure about going that close to the cap due to the enemy DD being there, but I saw on the map that 3 of the 4 battleships went to the other side, so I assumed it wasn't that big a risk. I got lucky I blew up that Italian BB but I did wait till he showed his full broadside. I think from hindsight I should've stayed and try to dispatch that UK BB that was down to about 5k health, but I had assumed I waas needed at the other cap more and I had to make a nasty turn with half my guns pointing in the wrong direction. And this time there was no screaming and no salt. Just an ordinary battle like most of them are, thank gods! ^^ 20171113_131433_PJSB007-Kongo-1942_20_NE_two_brothers.wowsreplay
