New player observations, gripes and loves.
NothingButTheRain replied to hedgehog_s's topic in Newcomers' Section
1) WG recently lowered the costs of research and purchase price of techtree ships up to tier 5. So basically it was more flattened out, but was actually more expensive and took a longer while. I'm not sure why they changed this, it seemed fine to me and will result in people that reach tier 6 being a bit more inexperienced overall. -

Good points. Selfish ships will result in selfish players, which in turn result in more toxicity. Yesterday both teams had a not so great CV that both ended up focussing on damage alone. The map was Sleeping Giant and I was bottom tier NC. A teammate Mosva was in the left cap and was basically stuck due to nobody doing any spotting. He was oneshotted by AP bombs! And the Moskva player got more toxic in return. I ended up also getting reported "UU FULL HP BB CAMPEH NUUB!" twice after the battle. They were probably expecting me to yolo to the middle like the enemy Amagi was doing? Selfish ships == selfish players == more toxicity, especially in the long run. -

Acceptable =/ normal. Or even wanted. It will hardly ever help. The only thing they will achieve is that they think they will feel better, but they won't. Or very rarely. If people get away with toxicity because it is acceptable, then the almightly overlords (in this case WG) would have to change the rules so that toxicity is not acceptable. The basic concept is quite simple. In theory that is. There's of course the balance of what will make more players leave the game. In my opinion a healthy community goes a long way, but apparently sometimes games can actually thrive on negativity? To me this is alien. -

Well I'm not exactly a good DD player myself But at least I try to be there for the team, but it's not rewarded. I'm getting a bit tired of seeing camping smoked up Khabarovsks farming damage and ending high in the list of us 12 losers while I get to clear out the enemy DDs, capping and eating torps and ending with 37k dmg games in NC because noone is bothered to go spot the enemy. I see all classes camp, not initiating a push. They just sit there like bags of potatos and let the enemy freely take all the cap (and I mean this in a literal sense. I capped in a cruiser for effing sake while the DDs were behind me torping the upcoming enemy wall of red). This I see a lot lately, DDs not spotting or capping but sitting behind the BBs and of course the BBs won't move. They sit there because noone is spotting and they don't want to get torped and focussed by HE spam. Notice how he was the only DD alive in both teams and how ALL enemies are unspotted. The DD doesn't care, he has his torps out already. But instead of camping inside his smoke, he could've spotted for us unchallenged and probably ended the game a bit sooner. And this I see more often lately. But the rest of the team is blind and can't do any damage whatsoever in this way. This is end battle report: As you can see, Kitakaze is rewarded and thinks he is good player. And that makes players like him say stuff like this in chat: "this team. ffs" Why exactly? We were ahead in kills and in points. It wasn't much toxicity at all, but there was absolutely none needed. It seemed more like complaining for the complaining. To me there was little to complain about. As a bonus, notice how on the right flank 3 of our BBs are camping WAY in the back? How they sit behind our own cap and totally not in the front line? Yes I'm being sarcastic. Perhaps they didn't notice that there was no more enemy DD on that flank, but they were indeed pushing. The main problem was that there was nobody spotting for them. I presume that's why they kept between those islands, bunched together. But they were indeed pushing. Later on the Musashi and a couple other BBs died. But if there's nobody spotting for them, they will hesitate to push as they don't want to die for no good reason. -

Here's another example of how not to suggest a course of action to a teammember who is unaware of something. I knew we were low on points and I was focussing on getting a low hp Alsace out of the game. To me, he NEEDED to die NOW. At least that's how I thought was the best course of action. So what does this elitist do? He sees (perhaps rightly) that B must be taken and tells me "You are full HP FFS" which is something you say to a dirty coward camper (toxic remark #1) I do decide to spring into gear right away, despite how he brings some issue to my attention. I try to point out why I wasn't focussing B cap (I was trying to get that Alsace killed as we needed the points and the flank to be clear when attacking B). Then he remarks "MOVE YOUR MONG". what? Why is this necessary? I ended up getting reported as well. The only thing he acomplished was me ending up blocking him and getting more frustrated by how these elitists keep behaving and how this is not how I want my very first battle of the day to be. Totally thumbs down from me. Fine if someone wants to bring something to my attention but do this in a normal way please. Btw, here's the end report: Oh yes, I must have really been a really filthy cancerous teammember right? Well according to this guy from a purple winrate clan I supposedly was. And this is the elitism I can live without. If someone with the experience of 65% winrate can't even behave normally, how can he expect normal behavior from mere average players? -

Do you play DD mostly? Because I'm having problems with DDs camping in smoke, not spotting nor capping, but they farm the damage that I thus can't farm anymore and in a BB (and most cruisers) I can't cap. So there's little left for me to do and I lose more battles not having done much and our DDs complain about them being so good (or everyone else being total ), while they don't even spot targets for our guns to shoot. Obviously losing because of points is always the fault of the one who is bottom of the list (which too often isn't the camping smoked up DD). -
So with the carrier rework getting so much attention (perhaps along with the debatable radar debate), I've seen little mention about the skills that are undoubtable gonna get reworked as some of the currect skills might make little sense anymore once the carrier rework is done. Is it likely that some of the other skills will also get reworked? It would make sense to do so, since they will already be busy tweaking skills. Perhaps they will change CE or IFHE?

NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Iirc Notser even used both rudder shift upgrades? And I think the NA players from the US might be a bit more optimistic about Alaska. Someone mentioned the improved autobounce angles of Alaskas shells? But the thing is that this is kinda needed as the shells are slower. Or at least I would suppose this to be the case. -

They could also buff all the tier 9 tech tree ships so they are on a more equal footing -
True. But I had hoped I had perhaps overlooked something. It is something completely new. Frankly I'd prefer the RTS gamestyle, but I can see why something has to be done about the impact of them on the game as a whole. I'd probably like the new gameplay in some way. Would I like it more? I dunno. It seemed more like a flightsim and only one squadron in total.. I think I might grow to like it. In the video (which is prelimenary, so stuff can change blah bla), they mentioned having your AA concentrated on one side. Other then it not being a gameplay element that is for me, if 2 carriers could be in the same division it would mean they could coordinate attacks on both side simultaneously. Now that I think of it, wouldn't the rework be most benefitial for DDs?
-
Well if you really think so. You can argue all that you'd like, it won't change reality. It won't change the stats. It won't change the proof! And like I said, it wasn't about skill, it was about the uzis! I never said that removing skill was my preferred way to properly balance CVs.

You know what happens if you pit skillfull katana masters against firearms?
-
This has nothing to do with the fact that carriers are OP. You're just bashing imaginary potatoes. You are missing the point completely. It's not about somehow requiring to dumb down CV play, but more to do with making CVs less OP and leveling the playing field for all classes. Please consider what I wrote here: Are you actually reading this part here? For instance the part about katanas and uzis? Because that's the spot where it is hurting guys like El2aZeR. The hurt of not wanting to (or being unable to) acknowledge this statistical fact. That's why some poeple here are going full potato mode "to proof dat it is skillz and nuttin tu due with carrier being too stronk". I frankly can't believe people with such skill level are being so childish about this. It's just a fact, life will change, your favorite gamestyle will disappear and there's no reason to drag the whole world down with you. These people should take it like an adult, or something.

How to angle musashi/yama vs other yama?
NothingButTheRain replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
Personally I think this is best. I try to stay at roughly 15km (conceilment value is 13.5 so minimum of 15km) and try to use all my guns. And, as been mentioned by others, if I need to brawl (which happens pretty often actually), I just need to "suck it up" -
I would like to point out (which is to add to what you said, not to go against it) that the middle tiers have been infested with sealclubbing cv players. A friend of mine has started playing CV a LOT, and really liking it. And even though I know he could become a very good player eventually, he's getting his behind kicked by sealclubbing tier 5 and 6 players (perhaps avoiding the premium tiers and avoiding the top tiers?) for which his 6 to 8 skills captain can't really do that much. He was clearly agitated by this. Now I am of the opinion that sealclubbing in itself is not a problem, but it's the amount in which it is taking place. Those lower tier ships barely have any AA to speak of, many don't even have DefAA. I believe this is also bad for the game.

People like Notser and Flamu posted some vids of the carrier rework. Particularly Notser points out the problems that the RTS carriers have. Notser mentions the vision game, the oneshotting full hp BB by point and click. Flamu mentions that carriers overall have the highest average damage, clearly they have an OP influence on the game. But both agree with the notion that carriers, as they are now, are blatantly OP/broken and for the good of the game, this needs to go. And I can see that. Well, with the way you explained skill level and CV gameplay, it's more like giving a katana to a bad DD player and a good DD player and have them duke it out on the battlefield. Giving a broadsword to a bad BB player and a good BB player and off they go. But the CV players get a sniper rifle and a couple of uzis. The CV class in itself is OP and wayyy too dominating. Not because of skill, but because of the class. Put some of the complaining purple unicorns (like some of the purple unicorns that made their presense felt in this thread) into anything but a CV and see their winrates drop.

Which "Silver" ships you retained after finishing the grind of some ship line and reaching Tier X in it?
NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I kept all ships unless I really disliked them or if I kept them and needed credits later. Or if I need port slots, I'l sell a couple of my unused captainless ships. I usually keep ships for which I have a permacamo and at least 1 of every tier. And ships that I find fun, if only for trainingroom fun I don't usually put a lot of ecxp into my low tier ships as I think it's not really needed. I hardly play these ships, unless I want something different. These include a couple tier 1 ships, tier 2 DDs, tier 3 Wakatake (halloween camo) and all sub-tier 5 Russian DDs and Clemson. From tier 5 I kept Kongo, tier 5 and tier 6 CVs, most tier 6 cruisers for ops, NM (mostly for its camo) and Gaede (also camo, but not really liking this ship). Tier 7 I basically kept NO (anniversary camo) and Shscors (good ship). Most ships tier 7 and above don't have captain anymore due to putting them on higher tier ships. Tier 8 I kept CM, Amagi, Cleveland, Balti and Monarch. And Rich of course I only played through 2 tier 9 ships, Lion not sure I wanna keep her but Izumo just had to go -
First poll - best looking ship
NothingButTheRain replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Only single vote option Was doubting between Rich and Scharnie, but went with the latter as I think Scharnhorst is cool It would appear that the Roma got canned -
Best looking ship in the game - which is it?
NothingButTheRain replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Alaska Missouri Alsace Kongo (waiting on PET and Hms Tiger) Richelieu Yamato And I think Scharnhorst is also one of the coolest looking ship in the game -

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Which was not my stated opinion. I don't really care if troxicity is thrown at me from a unicorn or a n00b, toxic is toxic and both will end up on my blacklist equally fast And if someone wants to give me feedback, please do! But do it in a normal way -
They are definitely changing them. Frankly I'd prefer the old RTS way, perhaps even nerfed to some degree. The new way, I'll just see how this goes. I don't have any of the premium carriers but did get a couple of the permacamos when they were on discount. Also the RTS way is more immersive imo. But I also understand the problems with how carriers are implemented right now and I won't be sorry to see this go. As is now, I also don't think they are good for the game. They should be on more equal footing compared to the other classes, mostly for gameplay reasons.
-
Perhaps. But it isn't what WG chose to do. This has nothing to do with with carriers being the most OP class of the game. I'm pretty sure you know the reasoning behind this. I'd say that this is indeed the case. All classes have their cons and pros

Win Rate and High stat player attitudes
NothingButTheRain replied to Quazie's topic in General Discussion
Totally agree with you Some people seem to think wows isn't a game, but some job or real life or is otherwise something that is utmost important and to be taken very seiously. As if it's a matter of real life and death or something. Same thing basically, in the end this is a game. It's supposed to be fun and entertainment Also agree with this. No matter how purple unicorny they are, information provided in any incompatible way will not be absorbed by the intended receiver. It will simply bounce off or shatter on impact
