"Sub Octavian" regarding possible changes to "Premium" ships that are considered "OP"
NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I haven't read everything yet (will do), but I wanted to point out that stats can be tricky buggers to interpret correctly. I see my analyses as more like a single measurement. I took the top 5% this time with the idea that dropping the 95% players who have not gotten the (absolute) max out of a ship would yield results closer to the ship's maximum potential. This could in turn partially negate the effect that steel has on these ships. In previous analyses I made on the forums I took the top 25%. I try out different things and see if I can find anything worth interesting. And about this "Alabama ST", in fact I did fall for this for like a minute or so, but I did some backchecking (which I really do a lot, as I prefer to not make silly mistakes like that) and writing this was an hour or 2 work. One of the reasons I don't see the Missouri is broken, is because there's actually 2 tech tree ships that overperform compared to Missouri and Iowa, GK and Izumo were actually UP (all 3 have received some buffs recently, so I would expect their stats to somewhat go up in the coming time). Iirc Iowa has a better heal compared to Missouri now, but overall I agree that Missouri is the better ship of the 2. But imo it's a bit more like comparing Hipper and Prinz Eugen. Neither are OP anyway, so which one of those 2 is the strongest is not really relevant in light of the discussion here (but could still be interesting). Kronstadt is for a large part let down by its guns (its accuracy, to be precise (pun intended )). Personally I actually prefer Donskoi over Kronstadt. I agree with your assessment on Flint. It's got the better gimmick and it's got better torps (like twice the range of the Atlanta ones?). It trades in radar but also a couple guns iirc. I disagree wioth your assessment on the tier 5 DDs, but Okhotnik seems obviously a strong ship in this list. But I don't agree with the Kamikazes and grenyashchy not being OP due to the people who play her. It is actually OP because unicums recognose how OP they are. I don't know whether it's a good idea to un-nerf the tech tree tier 5 DDs. I'll leave it at "for now I'll abstain from casting my vote on this matter" till I know more about it Okhotnik is a strange one and I bet it's got favorable maps in which it's easier to ambush hapless battleships from around corners on maps like Ring and Big Race for instance. It can't stealth torp. Which buffs to Tirpitz and Bismarck you mean? You mean the secondary buffs? because if yes, I think secondary focussed BBs could really use the help so I'm not against this one. I did read that topic, but I'd kinda need to reread it to refresh my memory of the discussion that took place there. Nice contribution here, sir Miessa3 -
"Sub Octavian" regarding possible changes to "Premium" ships that are considered "OP"
NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps there are still people that haven't understood the simple fact that steel is a rare resource. But I'm not one of those people, alas for you. And do you happen to be related to the other Cornflakes? That other Cornflakes holds firm to the belief that Stalingrad is fine balancedwise and think it's in the game's interests to keep Stalingrad balanced as it is -
"Sub Octavian" regarding possible changes to "Premium" ships that are considered "OP"
NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Personally I would prefer if premiums only get changed downward if there is a good enough reason to do so. Some ships are definitely strong in a way, few are totally broken (this number is actually quite small) and a bit larger number seems to be "simply OP and not totally broken". -
"Sub Octavian" regarding possible changes to "Premium" ships that are considered "OP"
NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I did some statschecking a couple days ago and continued my dig. Of all the steel ships, Black seems to be the least broken (with which I am not saying it is broken). Black has a slightly higher winrate with the top 5% players (less then 1.5% difference) while being on the bottom half of the list (6th place, after Kitakaze, Chung Mu, Udaloi, Tashkent and Jutland) when it comes to average damage done. This was actually my 3rd surprise as I thought it was actually broken. Black does not seem OP Compare this with the other steel ships: Flint has a 8% higher winrate compared to the #2 on the list (which is...Belfast! which is very slightly above Boise!). Flint also does the most damage per game on average, with the number 2 in the list (also Belfast) trailing behind it..then another gap before the #3 of the list (Boise). Flint seems completely broken. Belfast could quality as OP as it would be the clear best ship in this list, but not by a large margin (would still top everything if it weren't for Flint). Flint seems totally broken. Belfast is the strongest ship in its tier when disregarding Flint. Flint is OP. belfast, I'm not entirely sure. But it's definitely the strongest in its class right now when Flint is disregarded. Stalingrad is clearly broken! Not by as large a difference to the #2 on this list (which is Wooster) by winrate. When it comes to damage, Stalingrad also is #1 in the list, followed by a relatively small margin by Henri. Then a large gap when the #3 on the list appears (which is Wooster). Stalingrad is OP. And finally we get to Bourgogne, which also seems clearly broken actually. A huge difference in winrate compared to the #2 on the list (Repu) and the damage output of Bourgogne is also insane compared to all other tier 10 battleships. This one came as a surprise to me, but after comparing it with the JB (which shares the reload booster but has 33% fewer main guns) it actually seems logical that a JB a mere 1 tier higher with 50% more firepower is doomed to be much more powerful for its tier. Apparently Bourgogne is OP. BUT it's not been released for a very long time as of now so I will consider that it takes more time for its stats to settle. I have included Bourgogne into my list below, but as (Bourgogne) instead of Bourgogne for this very reason. But the difference is substantial, so I cannot exclude it either. So much for the steel ships. Black is the only steel ship that seems to fit in with the rest of the ships when regarding the damage it can do and utility ships tend to have higher winrates overall (see ships like Seattle, Wooster and Belfast). The other lists I checked were the tier 5 and 6 destroyers, tier 8 and 9 cruisers and tier 4,5 and 9 battleships. Kamikaze has the highest winrate by a margin of 3% or so, followed by Okhotnik (this was a surprise to me), Fujin, Kamikaze R en Grenyashchy. Then comes anotehr gap of 3% winrate till Gnevny starts. All above are premiums and have above average winrates. The damage per game changes the list and now consist of Kamikaze, Fujin, Kamikaze R and Grenyashchy. Then comes a gap and we get Minekaze and then Okhotnik. All Kamikazes and Gremyashchy are OP. This cluster of ships lead with winrate and with damage done. 7% higher winrate and 25% more damage compared to their stronger tech tree competition. The Kamikazes never received the nerf that their tech tree brethen received. T-61 has a 6% higher winrate and 10% more damage each game compared to its stronger tech tree competition. The #2 to #4 are premiums, but there's a distinct gap between T-61 and the other premiums of that list and those premiums are closer to the best tech tree ship then they are to T-61. Monagham and Shinonome are #2 and #3 on this list. Anshan is #4 on this list. The list of winrates then gets filled up with Monaghan, Shinonome and Anshan before it reaches a tech tree ship (#5 on this list), which is Fushun. The winrates differ by 3%, which is only slight. When it comes to damage per game, the premiums are again in the top of the list and the first tech tree ship appears at #8 T-61 is clearly OP. Shinonome as OP seems debatable as its #2 and #3 on the winrate and damage per game list. Kutuzov doesn't seem to be OP. it's actually in the bottom half of the list by winrate but leads by damage done per game (less then 5% difference and then come Irian and Charles Martel). This tier seems actually quite balanced, the ships with the highest winrate are actually Charles Martel and Cleveland (and their lead is less then 1%. Compare that to the winrate differences of other ship classes. Kutuzov...best damage farmer of its tier, but I don't see it as OP. This was actually my second surprise after seeing how strong Bourgogne seems to be. My guess is the extreme range and its smoke help out in this regard. Also interesting to see Irian do so well here. But in all honesty, I couldn't make Kutuzov as OP even if I wanted to without having to lie to myself. I'm just not convinced yet. Tier 9 cruisers are interesting. Top of the list by winrate and damage is actually Alaska. But Alaska has been out too short for me to think the data I can collect is representative of how OP this ship is. So for now I will totally disregard Alaska and pretend it does not exist. Then comes Kronstadt which winrate is 3% higher than the #2 and #3 on this list (which are actually Seattle and Saint-Louis). After the #3 comes another small gap of 2% for Donskoi and then come Neptune and the old Baltimore. The #1 on damage is actually Saint-Louis, followed by a veeery small margin by Kronstadt and after these 2 comes a gap of roughly 10% and we get Roon and Donskoi. Kronstadt is strong, but it appears to be relatively weaker compared to its contemporaries then Belfast. If Belfast is to be deemed not OP, I think Kronstads is also not OP. I will not consider Kronstadt OP as it mixes in with the top of the tech tree ships, but it could definitely survive a nerf (but the lack of accuracy of this ship make it harder to excel in it). Imperator Nikolai leads by more then 5% winrate compared to the #2 on this list (which is Orion) and the damage numbers are also #1 in the list by a significant margin. Imperator Nikolai is OP, it's clearly better than the rest of the ships in its class Cesare leads by winrate with a significant margin of 5% to the #2 on this list (which is Texas) and the resdt of the list starts from there. Cesares average damage is woefully higher compared to the #2 on this list (Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya) and the difference is roughly 20%. Cesare is clearly broken Jean Bart is #1 spot regarding winrate by a small margin (1%), followed by Alsace. Musashi is #3 on this list and Missouri is #5 on this list. Regarding damage, Musashi is #1 on this list by a veeery small margin compared to the #2 on this list (Jean Bart) with an insignificant percentage. Then comes a gap of 9% to the #3 on this list (Lion) followed very closely by Alsace. Missouri is also #5 on this list. Jean Bart is the strongest of its tier. Apparently the reload booster makes it very powerful (compare to Bourgogne in its list) Noticable is that Iowa, FdG and Izumo are bottom feeders on this list in all regards. Jean Bart seems the strongest in its tier, but seems only slightly more strong then a ship like Kutuzov (which I deem not to be OP, I simply don't see it). Jean Bart has only 1% higher winrate and 9% more average damage compared to the best tech tree ships in this tier and I find it hard to see it being OP. Jean Bart is the strongest, but appears not broken in its tier. it's less OP then a ship like belfast and its status as OP is questionable. Musashi has the same damage as Jean Bart but lower average winrate. It scores even lower than Jean Bart and Belfast but it doesn't seem OP. Missouri is not OP, it's in the middle of the list. This was actually my 4th surprise, Missouri is totally not OP and is in the middle of the list. When it comes to compiling a list of the most OP ships I could determine, the list of certainly OP ships would include Flint, Stalingrad, (Bourgogne), Kamikaze, Fujin, Kamikaze R, Grenyashchy, T-61, Nikolai, Cesare. The list of ships I deem of questionable OP-ness (but still very strong!) are Shinonome, Belfast, Kronstadt, Jean Bart, Musashi. And Kutuzov (and Irian), Black and Missouri....don't appear to be OP. -
What 3 Italian commanders are you referring to? And which IJN commanders?

CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
I was not talking about my position but about the behavior of the enemy DDs. Where the hell are you pulling this here from? It's totally irrelevant, if only because the vast majority of battles where this happens, I'm not the CV they are hunting. I see DDs hunting CVs regardless of what my position is or what class I play or how well or potato I play, it's totally irrelevant and merely distracting to what the real issue is here. And yes, I see DDs trying to get behind enemy lines a LOT. Even happens if there is no enemy CV but the way CVs are these days encourages bad behavior even more. -
Bow Camping, autobounce, and HE/AP value
NothingButTheRain replied to WyomingNavy's topic in General Discussion
Pampered? These DD nerfs were needed back then and some of these nerfs have been reverted. Actually, DD is the most buffed ship in the last 1 1/2 years or so. There is no balance that got tipped over. I think some DD-only players remember the old days and perhaps want those back. But I think it's good those days are dead and burried permanently. -
My guess would be that Salem is more likely to be removed first. If you really have to make a choice, I'd say wait for a coupon and if either ship gets removed,y ou can always decide based on what you have to spend then instead of what you have right now. I got both ships and overall I like both of them. I don't have DM yet but I do have Rich and I like Rich as well. Rich and JB playstyle is very similar. But Salem is also a very fun ship to play. But it has a couple drawbacks. Its radar is barely useful at all. I kidna see it like a long range hydro without the ability to spot any torps. Even the 9km of Wooster is a lot less useful compated to the 10km some other radar ships have and Salem sits at 8.5km and lasts shorter as well (25s instaed of like 40s the DM has, iirc). Another disadvantage is that Salem does not (or at least should not) have a premium credit multiplier. The credit earning potential should be identical to any tech tree tier 10 ship with a standard permacamo mounted, except that Salem has lower service costs. That said, I think Salem is a strong ship and its nice that it's a tier 10 premium instead of tier 9 (which most of these premiums are). If I REALLY had to make a choice..I think I'd still settle for JB tho.

Directives reset - day of the week.
NothingButTheRain replied to Blixies's topic in General Discussion
One way to check what day this happens, is to check when the hall of fame ends. Mine looks like this atm and this one ends 13 march 2019 (expect this to be like 4am 13 march or something, just to be on the safe side). This is a pretty reliable way to be able to quickly check yourself And as you can see, I don't really care much for hall of fame atm. -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
They were punished because they potatoed, not because the CV is so good vs DDs these days. And with potatoed I mean that they potatoed at evading my glacially slow torps and not that they went and yoloed to enemy spawn area to go look for me -
I still want the ARP ships, give them to me now!

Anyone get any Ship Missions from Air Supply containers?
NothingButTheRain replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
So far I've received virtually all free containers and received nothing from them. Only stuff I've received from the free crates since like halloween, is 2 of the halloween skins and the tier 5 and 6 RN tech tree destroyers. -
Anyone get any Ship Missions from Air Supply containers?
NothingButTheRain replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
Do you even play for the air crates from the directives? because the amount of battles on your account has been 245 for like 2(?) months now? So you had very few free crates to begin with. Unless this is a spare account of yours or something -
Free Captains reset? especially after Rank and with Clan test coming
NothingButTheRain replied to RedOnly's topic in Archive
I'm mostly wondering if I can also freely move captains around as many ships have actually changed since the last free respec and retrain when the rework got released. -
Didn't you already create such a topic earlier?

CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
There is a need for this, as punishment for bad behavior will discourage said behavior. And this doesn't explain this supposed contradiction of mine you were talking about earlier. -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
If the enemy DD pops up somewhere near me, my teammates already failed me. And relying on teammates like this...is not really a good game mechanic I think. I think perhaps the best way may (may, just tossing this idea into the ring, so to say) be to give rocket bombers limited range or limited fuel, but give them their old stats back so a carrier can defend itself from rushing DDs. This will promote good team behavior as DDs rushing towards enemy spawn has become too common these days and it's probably that the CV nerfs are part of the reason for this. -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
There's nothing wrong with rewarding good play. But the example I showed (which alas has been quite common since the rework started) is a clear example of bad gameplay and should be discouraged. -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
This is actually not a bad idea. The rocket planes are now kinda useless anyway, even though they were supposed to be some anti-DD weapon? And HE bombers are infinitely more useful as a anti-DD weapon compared to AP bombers. -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
What rubbish are you speaking? I'm clearly not talking about DDs who are actually doing their job like capping and scouting for their team. I'm talking about DD who go yoloing to the enemy spawn just so they can die and leave their team to throw a match. -
How is your Crown & Florin collecting (for the 3x RN CVs) going on?
NothingButTheRain replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
960 florins and 161 crowns. I only have the Hermes right now. -
Having a really strange issue
NothingButTheRain replied to Hectors_Black_Sea's topic in General Discussion
This bug is not specific to 8.0 or 8.1. It's existed for as long as I play WoWS. I had it at one time, but it was kinda inconsistent and I don't even remember how I fixed it but I did fix it somehow. -
Operation Aegis on steroids glitch...
NothingButTheRain replied to SEN_SEN_Channel_Portugue's topic in General Discussion
I seen the Amagi spawn once due to this very reason, but this was many patches ago so I can't say if it's the same thing here. It didn't seem like a big problem anyway so I didn't bother try it again. -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
As I described above, I think DDs have it too easy vs at least the IJN CVs right now and because of this I see a lot of them yoloing to enemy spawn to find the enemy CV. I attached some screenshots of the game I described above and frankly I believe my positioning was not all that wrong. Note that as of 8.1, rpf works on carriers (I botched my caps post reset and didn't bother paying for a reset when I soon get a free one, so I just left it a is) so it's easier for me to find them, but this situation is just not ideal and not good for gameplay overal. It's too easy for DDs to evade carrier attack (at least from IJN CV due to the nature of its dive bombers having AP instead of HE bombs) and it's bad for the game. After 2 of the enemy DDs attempted to yolo towards my CV, they threw the game and lost even though they previously held all 3 caps. There's not enough deterrent for DDs to do this kind of behavior right now. WG might as well significantly reduce rocket bomber range and increase their effectiveness vs DDs to pre-nerf levels or something, I don't really use these rocket planes on my Shokaku for anything really useful anymore anyway (except maybe dropping a fighter or waiting for my torp planes to respawn because I potatoed somehow). -
CV- The DD scourge (DDs need Nerfs)
NothingButTheRain replied to sgtmarple's topic in General Discussion
I played my Shokaku a couple times and twice in the same game an enemy Hatsuharu attempted to break through to sink me and basically the only way I could defend myself is by using torp planes. I think that many DD players know this by now and attempt to sink me. I managed to sink both of them eventually because they potatoed at some point but it's totally no fun gameplay here There are basically 4 DDs each team constantly. I think it's because of the Exeter missions, even though IJN DDs are not a vast portion of the country the DDs belonged to. And CVs are actaully hard to find when you need any plane kills. I never played Eve, so can't comment on that.
