What sights do you guys use?

iChaseGaming's recent 'how not to suck' video contains a useful section on how to use the dynamic sights effectively. It would be nice if he was demonstrating it in something other than a Roma, but it's a clear explanation of the principle at least.

What sights do you guys use?

Am I right in thinking you still have to scale for distance (though not zoom) on the dynamic sight? I remember reading/hearing that it was calibrated for 30 knots at 15 km, so if the target is at e.g. 10 km, you need to take a bit more (I think...) lead. I much prefer the dynamic sights, but I think I need to get better and remembering ships' top speeds... I often seem to not take enough lead.

Sharks VS Eagles, not going to go for Eagles.

Marxist? But look at that red and black expendable camo. No, Eagles are clearly anarcho-syndicalists

    Help

The minimum specs can be found here: https://worldofwarships.com/en/content/game/system-requirements/ No idea why that was so impossible to find on the EU website, but easy on NA. I'm no expert, but I would imagine most laptops in your price range would meet those specs – definitely worth checking before you buy though. To echo the above you'll probably want to run minimum graphics settings. But I do too, and it doesn't stop it being a very fun game

    General Feedback - 0.7.7 PTS

I've found the battle loading times much more comfortable in round 2, even on my 6-year-old toaster – faster in round 1 and faster than I sometimes get on the live server. The only thing that's changes at my end is that I forgot to set WOWS to high priority in my task manager, which I would generally imagine to have the opposite effect. So if this is something to do with the update, good job!

    WORCHESTER fairy tale

On the other hand, if there had been an HMS/USS Norwich since the 18th/19th century (respectively), we would never hear the end of it. RN and USN naming committees past, thank you for your foresight.

No worries, and good luck out there

What is the stupidest thing you did today?

Thought my Furutaka would definitely get turned around and angled away before that Iron Duke at 11km finished reloading. I've been playing a lot of DDs recently, and it would appear I need to used to how CAs handle again...

    Rituals before WoWs session

Fully endorse this. I guess the nearest I get to a ritual is making sure I have a pot of tea/large glass of water to hand. Thirst, hunger and tiredness are all reasons to not enter a random battle, for me.

    GO NAVY! Event

Looks like it should be fun. Looking forward to seeing what I'll actually be able to spend the loyalty tokens on on the live server, though, to decide whether I'd rather get those or the containers... I wonder, though, whether caputred/assisted in capture ribbons should/could be rewarded with points as well, to encourage playing the objective more. The Eagles camo looks great, looking forward to seeing the Sharks one at some point too I hope :)

    UI improvements

I noticed that credits is now the default option for buying premium consumables. A very good change!

    Change of CAP Time

Apologies if I've misunderstood what you mean here, but the points don't directly reflect cap progress. You get points from two sources – sinking enemy ships and holding uncontested caps (including the base in standard battles). How many points you gain for sinking ships (and lose for having your ships sunk) and for holding caps are shown in the battle loading screen and in the screen you can view by using the tab button in battle. The point income for holding caps varies according to the map. For a single ship to capture a cap takes 1 minute in domination battles or 3 minutes for a standard-battle base cap. It takes less time with more than one ship in the cap, but I'm not sure of the exact values. Cap progress is shown in a meter at the bottom of the screen while you are capping. As mentioned above, there have been no changes in the time it takes to capture objectives. There are three ways to win a battle before the 20 mins run out without sinking all enemy ships: - Your team accumulates 1000 points by sinking ships and holding uncontested caps - The enemy team loses so many ships (and thus points) without gaining any points that they hit 0. (In my fairly limited experience I've only ever seen this in domination/epicentre battles, but I suppose it is technically possible in standard too if the enemy really put their minds to throwing...) - In standard battles only: your team capture the enemy base cap. The last two could explain your winning with only 800 points accumulated and enemy ships still afloat. Although in the third case the UI will add however many points you need to reach 1000 once your team capture the base. Again, sorry if I misunderstood and have just explained stuff you knew already. If not, hope this helps! And finally: a compliment for your excellent choice of avatar

What should I spend my real money on?

Cheers! I feel like this really should be more explicitly stated in the advertising, but maybe I was just being thick and not understanding properly. Hmmm, so maybe Yubari would be more useful for retraining DD captains who do have LS... Will give it a think, and maybe look at Ishizuchi or something. Not ideal for retraining CA captains, but at least not unplayable. I just used Yubari as the example because there's no way I'm buying an Atago atm – I don't (yet) have the experience or skill to pull my weight at T8. But thanks for the warning.

What should I spend my real money on?

Can I just check that I've understood this correctly – a commander in retraining on his silver ship doesn't suffer the retraining penalties on premium ships? So e.g. when I get round to buying the Aoba, I could put my Furutaka captain on it, retrain him halfway using credits, and then buy a Yubari to do the second half of the retraining – and all his skills would work normally on the Yubari? If so that's very interesting info indeed Although that's some way off – I'm thinking of waiting until I have a 10-point captain before buying the Aoba tbh.
  16. Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up. Will have to give it a think then
  17. Mind blown – I now can't believe how long I've spent not knowing this. I'd always kinda assumed it would just be for higher-tier players or something. Will do this later, always wanted the alternative IJN camo schemes... Thanks!

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Today I reached 50% WR in DDs. Might not seem like much, but it does feel like a good milestone to have achieved. Now hopefully I can keep it up!

    What ship line next?

Hoping for British DDs next, and hoping even harder that they don't get given some ridiculous gimmick. Although I'm looking forward to an Italian tech tree too. As for glorious Soviet BBs, well, my Clemson and my Shenyang are waiting.* *And my Nicholas, if I feel that I've got good enough to go back to it by then. EDIT: Just realised that the gimmick for RN DDs will likely be ripple-fire torps. As long as narrow-spread is still an option and that's the only gimmick, I'll be happy
  20. TeaAndTorps

so how does that work then??

Hi OP. Yes, it does feel bad to accidentally teamkill and get the penalty for it. Thing is, though, as others have said, it's up to you to make sure your torps don't hit your allies. It's one of the skills everyone has to learn in this game. Basically, it just means integrating a check before launching your torps: are there allies between me and my target, or could an ally run into the path of my torpedoes before they run out of fuel? If the answer to either of those questions is 'yes', or if you're unsure, it's better not to launch until you can be sure it's safe. Of course, mistakes will still happen, whether through miscalculation or, as in this case, not noticing the ally in question. Both of these become less likely as you improve your situational awareness – which is, again, something all players still need to work on after less than 200 games, and is always a work in progress anyway. In this case, you should have been able to see the ally's icon behind the island, and get some idea of their heading from the minimap. I know know how easy it is to tunnel-vision on the enemy, but these are the things to check before launching. The pink status has no effect if you don't do team damage again for a few battles, so I guess the best option is to take the situational awareness lessons of this incident and try to apply them.
  21. This is a fantastic piece of work. I'm not going to be playing CBs any time soon, let alone at Typhoon League level or above. But this will be an excellent tool for tracking my progress in getting good at the mid-tiers, if I can come up with some reasonable goals for 'consistently carrying a bit more than my weight'. Thanks OP, and everyone else involved, for all the hard work that's clearly gone into this
  22. Or, as Admiral Beatty would have put it, 'There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today'.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Project 'git gud in DDs' (at T4 until I have more randoms under my belt) continued today with this nail-biter in the Shenyang. Always nice to see your contribution directly affecting the result – we definitely needed the caps for this win. Also a distinctly meh game in the Furious Taco and a decentish one in Clemson but where I died too early... lessons learned in both and all three were wins, so a good day altogether!

From Reddit: Statistics on the EU server population

Hmmm, I need to take this on board myself... Good that I've heard this relatively early in my WoWs career, thanks!!! I guess this is just exactly what made me think I was perhaps being hopelessly naive earlier – it's difficult to say how WG could keep making the same money while moving away from encouraging people up the tiers as fast as possible. Indeed, insert almost any T10, T5 and T4 here... .True – my thought (not clearly expressed) was that conclusively demonstrating a causal link between falling player retention and the 'progress up the tiers as fast as possible' model could be difficult, if indeed there is one (I'm idly speculating while I should be working, not trying to say it definitely is so). And it would have to be pretty conclusive, given the difficulties we've established with thinking up a new monetisation model...
