    Royal Navy Arc

Okay, cheers. So it's as I imagined – rewards for event missions after 0.7.9 won't include the containers? Even the Hall of Fame? Hmmm, will have to start calculating how it works out financially to get Gallant using sovereigns, given that there's no way I'll be able to complete all the necessary missions Good job on leaving a special currency available for a whole update after players can earn it, by the way

Thanks for this. So will sovereigns be exchanged for credits at the start of 0.7.11 (as the article says) or 0.7.12 (which, if I've understood correctly, is the end of the arc)?

    Royal Navy Arc

I'm hoping it is just a typo, but I'm thinking it's also possible that the missions in 0.7.11 won't give you RN containers as rewards. Hopefully this'll be cleared up soon.

Yes, this struck me as odd too. I wonder if @MrConway or @Crysantos might be able to clarify?
  5. I wonder if the new automated 'disciplinary' system could do something about that these days, if saving a star were to be scrapped? E.g. leave a certain number of battles (at least 2) early, lose a certain number of ranks (even irrevocable ones). Hard-core repeat offenders get barred from the rest of the current season. I'd generally favour the carrot over the stick, but the chance to turn a game around and win should be the incentive. Not that I play ranked myself, I just sometimes find this kind of issue interesting to think through over breakfast

    Ship roles and exp rebalance

I'm not going to pretend to know exactly how the WoT system works, but in WoWS I do feel you'd have to account for the situation @eliastion described earlier: if a ship you're spotting opens fire on a friendly behind you, and said friendly has line of sight, you currently don't get any spotting damage. Maybe awarding XP for being the closest ship with line of sight to a target would be the way to go? I think that should apply to every class too; spotting is useful whoever's doing it, even if not all ships are suited to doing so. (Ditto tanking, capping, killing ships, dishing out damage). Tbh, I'm still trying to work out what to do when I find myself between two groups of ships both firing at each other, and I'm in a DD that can't stealth torp, and I can't fire in the open for whatever reason. Generally I'll keep screening, see if I can drop smoke somewhere useful for allies (I'm still not very good at that...) and, if I'm satisfied there's no enemy DD out there, smoke up and pew-pew – if the enemies are firing at my friendlies they'll stay spotted anyway, as long as I'm careful with my smoke. As to DDs' role, I generally approach a game as follows (I mean, don't have many PvP battles and they're all low tier, so make of it what you will). Primary: Spot and (in Domination) cap. Equal importance, and capping in domination generally leads to spotting anyway. Obviously, though, not throwing my ship away is more important than trying to force a cap. Secondary: Hunt/try to spot enemy DDs. Torp from stealth, if applicable. Cap (in standard). Tertiary: Dakka-dakka, possibly from smoke. And this, as with all of the classes, comes with a big, fat caveat: Pay more attention to the tactical situation and peculiarities of your ship than to the order suggested above.

    Battle Chat

To be fair sunk players can still provide useful info in chat to surviving team mates – e.g. 'That DD had x HP remaining when last spotted' etc. So I wouldn't want it automatically disabled. I've also had fun, friendly chats with sunk players on both teams before now, and would like to keep that possibility. If players (afloat or otherwise) are raging with no good reason, I'd just ignore it, and if it's really impossible to filter out, block them. Unbelievably, it's been a while since anyone raged at me in chat. But times I remember, they had a point. But I'm not suggesting that that's the case here, as I simply have no way of knowing.

Best looking ship in the game - which is it?

I would probably say Zao, though Giulio Cesare, Fiji and Fletcher are close runners-up in my book.

    Clans members reward

Also, I'm pretty sure the game doesn't need more ways for relatively inexperienced players to start playing high tiers ASAP...

    CV Rework Discussion

I guess so, but wouldn't both concoles and PCs share the issue of what happens to one's planes while one manoeuvres the carrier if jumping between the two is the mechanic WG choose? But yes, when S_O was talking about the need to avoid CV snipes becoming excessively common on the stream, my first thought was that the most obvious (not to say sledgehammer-esque) way of doing so would be removing the carrier itself from the map. And clearly that would kill two birds with one stone. It would be a shame, I think, but if it turns out to be the best (or, perhaps, easiest) way to make the new carriers work... Idk, I just hope the final version of the rework ends up a net positive for the game as a whole, and will wait to see what they come up with. Must kinda suck for current highly skilled CV players, though :/

    CV Rework Discussion

Is that even console-friendly? Given that that's one of the points the devs highlight about the rework. It doesn't sound it to me, but then it's ages since I played anything on a console... Edit: And agree it sounds horrible anyway.

    Duplicate Keys on Collections

Hmmm to me it makes sense to have duplicates only count on one collection. Not least because the number of duplicates you need to buy a new 'original' varies between collections. This is quite possibly my favourite bit of the Arsenal (having very little interest in any of the ships currently available). If RNGesus is even a little bit kind to me, I'm less than 4k coal from getting Jean-Jacques Honoré, and it's a great way of getting bonuses along the way
  13. TeaAndTorps

    Tripple bonus for NEWCOMERS only?

Yeah this is a stupid way to do marketing. Imagine the orders they could have generated if it was open to everyone. On the other hand, I shouldn't be spending any money I don't have to at the moment, so thanks WG for deciding I'm ineligible for temptation

Preserving RTS CV - Action CV in parallel?

While I agree that it would be a bad idea to keep.both systems in one game, 'World of Aircraft Carriers' might be a good idea. One could, I imagine, make some changes that inter-class balance makes difficult in WOWS. Total War Arena or whatever it's called already exists in the WG 'collection' as a top-down strategy game with multiple players controling multiple units at once, so maybe not impossible... I can't say I'd necessarily play it, for the same reasons as I don't play CVs atm or TWA (basically, I think I'd suck [EDIT: yes, more than I do already] andher – mainly DD – gameplay appeals to me more), but would certainly look at the finished product with an open mind. Obviously it all depends on whether WG reckon there's sufficient profit in it, though.

    CV Rework Discussion

No worries! Hmmm, pretty sure it wasn't on reddit (I still can't find the link in my history on any device I might have been using, though... weird...) but yes, that looks very much like what I was meaning. Cheers! :)

This is the devblog write-up, if that helps. I could swear I started reading a transcript of the Q&A somewhere yesterday, but can't find it again right now...

    DCing in almost every match.

Have you tried playing the game on a different internet connection with one of your accounts? Are you sure your router isn't showing a connection error? I'm no tech-head by any stretch, but noticed that tuat wasn't on your list of things you tried... Even if you have a fast connection, a worn-out exterior cable can mean it works only half of the time at most, though I dare say you'd have noticed problems with more than just WOWS... That you are paying for a very fast connection leads me to assume that you're not playing on a machine even older than mine so I guess that can't be it. Though tbh I don't even know if that would cause disconnections.

Anyone else get burnt out on this game?

Very much agreed. I liked the 'daily missions' model in July, thinking it was a one-off and appreciating something a bit different (with lots of coal). I was rather less hyped when it made an appearance in August again (although the opportunity to farm a little extra free XP some days was nice). I was a little bit irritated that the anniversary containers were available through daily grinds rather than longer-lasting missions (although that's largely because having sub-optimal real-life circumstances for gaming will restrict me to co-op for the next couple of months; I wouldn't mind that grind at all in random). But when I saw the September mission briefing yesterday I rolled my eyes so hard it almost gave me whiplash. If it stays this way for much longer, it's going to get very tedious very quickly. I'd really like more of these again. More variety, and possibly better for those of us who don't/can't/don't want to play every single day, while those who do/can still get a lot more stuff for doing so.

Anyone else get burnt out on this game?

Taking a break for a week or something is definitely a good idea. I've also found that it helps (and with a lot of other things in life besides WOWS) if you to have a few days where you spend more of your free time away from a screen altogether. Reading a good book, getting out for a walk in the countryside, or getting down the gym have all worked for me. Another thing that I've found helpful is trying to make sure I close the game while I'm still enjoying it. I'll very rarely play more than 10 games a day now, and even then about 6 is usually my maximum. But if battle number 5 is a good result and I'm going to have to go offline soon, I'll often close the game then and end on a high. Quit after 3-4 losses or bad games in a row and do something else. Your mileage may of course vary, but the fundamental point is that by not playing until you're fed up in each session, you will probably help yourself have a more enjoyable experience. You'll also play better as your mind will be fresher, and you won't be playing when you're tilted. (As an aside, the catalyst for me rethinking how I played WOWS was 17 games played almost directly after one another when I first got the Nicholas. I lost 14 and just kept playing worse and worse hoping for a good game). You'll therefore probably win more, which is more fun. It might slow down your grinds, but it's worth it to avoid feeling burnt out. And yeah, play ships that you have fun with, not just the ones you're grinding. Just my two cents, hope there's something useful Good luck out there, captain

    Pan European tree (premiums)

Seconded. Studying a lot of modern Spanish history myself, I'd also really like to see one of the Canarias or Baleares heavy cruisers in the game. An España-class BB could make a good low-tier premium (similar design to the Turenne). The Currucha-class DDs, some of which saw action in the Civil War, could work at T6, or perhaps T5 in their four-gun iteration. But I suspect WG will have possible Pan-European DDs coming out of their ears, so not holding my breath!

    Update 0.7.8 - General Feedback

Might be a coincidence so treat with a pinch of salt, but I seem to be getting faster loading times than I have for several patches. Always nice to have a bit more time to sit and admire my ships!

    Bug Reports

The contents description for the Vive la France containers in the Arsenal needs changing. I knew what I was getting because I read the patch notes, but might have been quite disappointed if I hadn't ;-)

    Low Tier Research/purchase costs

Hi OP. Just wondering if we can try a quick thought experiment? Say you've bought a TV for £300. Four months later the shop you bought it from knocks it down to £240, even though (for argument's sake) it's still performing at the same level relative to the competition. Do you: a) feel a little bit sad that you missed out on the lower price, but reflect that you couldn't have known they'd lower the price and that you've had four months of entertainment out of said TV that you wouldn't have done otherwise? b) Write an angry Google review calling the decision to lower the price an 'outrage'? If a), how is WOWS different, except in that you didn't (have to) pay real money for your low-tier grind, and will be able to benefit from the change yourself in future? If b), well, I fear we have irreconcilably different understandings of what constitutes an outrage, and what's worth spending time and energy getting cross about. You do you and I'll do me. A more serious objection might be that this will encourage new players into higher levels sooner with inadequate game knowledge and commanders. But honestly, the low-tier grind is so short anyway that I'm not sure it'll make too great a difference.

    Match Maker

True, but as @Tyrendian89 and @DFens_666 have pointed out, that reservation doesn't apply to all ships by any means... EDIT: Just for clarity, I don't think this exploit would be a good idea. But if it's theoretically possible, someone will try it, and I don't think they should get what amounts to a reward for not upgrading their ship. Quite apart from the 'unnecessarily complicated' point.
  25. TeaAndTorps

    Match Maker

I'm not convinced. Wouldn't it make it theoretically possible to be always top tier indefinitely by keeping your ship stock? And if it's theoretically possible, I would expect someone to do it, calculating that it allows indefinite seal-clubbing. I'm not sure that's a good thing to encourage.
