When I run the game, I usually get sound that is normal for about two or three seconds, then it cuts out to silence for a similar time, then back in, and out and in, and so on continuously. It makes the game unplayable. It doesn't happen every time I run the game, but usually. Any ideas?

I wonder if anyone else here has suffered the same problem and found a cure. Very often (perhaps one time in three or four), when I am just at the critical point during an aircraft attack, such as when the crosshairs are almost on the enemy ship and I am just about to release my bombs, I suddenly jump out of the programme. Some other window on my computer like the start button menu or file explorer (Windows 10) pops up on my screen on top of WoW, and the game becomes unresponsive to controls. I lose sound, and while I hammer on the Escape button and whirl my mouse around, swearing and clicking in fury, the crosshairs move over my target. when I regain control, I have overshot the target. I'm guessing that something I do with my mouse causes this, but what? Any solutions?

It seems to behave as though the mouse pointer has gone off the bottom of the game screen onto the task bar somehow. I cannot replicate this deliberately, it happens only when I am concentrating on my crosshairs. I am not clicking the mouse. I am pretty sure I'm not pressing the windows key.
