Oh Boy... Starting from Update 0.10.6, "Friesland" will no longer be available to purchase (but there will be KM "Groningen")...
Khaba_Gandalf replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I'm 95% pragmatic, but if pragmatism doesn't net me any benefit I do tend to run the odd immersion/rpg pairing. But for most nations there is no "nation pairing" anyway, only a "what is your acceptance level when we are talking about colab (Anime stuff like HSF, ARP, AL or western stuff like Transformers or King Kong) Commanders or Event commanders (Halloween, SciFi ...) that are pretty much "non-historical/nonsensical". To give you some examples what I've done and what I haven't or wouldn't do: 1. I wouldn't spend dubs or ECXP just to swap character around so that in EU tree my old Blyska captain sits on Gryf instead of Östergotland. I'm not going to get T2 Tátra just so that I could use my VU captain on a "Austria-Hungarian" ship. I'm also playing said VU with Swirski post-rework, said VU dude with 10pt (santa crate) can warm a bench in my reserve until WG released another line in the EU nation 2. I did abuse the patch day shenanigans when the skill rework went live to shuffle around a ton of AL captains: All my Yukikaze copies are sitting on IJN DDs, while all my Atago copies and Azuma are now sitting on IJN cruisers. I do run AL Cleveland on my T8 Cleveland 3. I don't like the looks of most WG Event captains, but a 10pt is a 10pt captain. So I didn't retire them, but I would never pay cash for them and I used the rework to shuffle them mainly on those t2-4 ships I don't use anway (because 99,9% of all missions/events/campaigns don't work below t5). 4. While I do own Belfast and ran her on Belfast pre-rework for the luls , I stopped doing that post rework. She now sails Edinburgh (pseudo immersion choice), while Cunningham is specced for Daring/Thunderer/Ark Royal/Belfast So for me pragmatism tops immersion. Heck, WG could release a new German commander names Rudi Carrell (Dutch singer and entertainer, pretty famous in Germany for his long career as a showmaster in German television) and if he had superior skills than the Jutland brothers, I wouldn't mind running him. Despite knowing that this dude is a) a pretty nonsensical choice for a commander and b) not in the correct tech tree. And while I know that my approach is a bit special , I would guess that a lot of the players on EU are also pretty pragmatic at least when it comes to Premium ships and commanders for them. Esp. post-rework... Again, what is a Friesland captain. Keep in mind it's a premium ship, so unless you got it from a crate, bought it as a overpriced bundle for hard cash instead of using FXP, or hired a captain on her in port and never reassigned them when IKEA DDs where released, you're most likely not having an assigned captain... -

Please correct me if I misunderstood your idea, but to me it looked like you did advocate that it is possible to transfer one Dutch commander from EU to NL with the emphasis lying on the word Dutch. So not just any EU commander of choice, but limited to those that have a Dutch name. I can understand that idea from a immersion /rpg point of view, but in terms of actual game mechanics this would lead to very very small group of people being able to profit and a lot of people being shut out because they didn't planed their commanders 1-2 years in advance with the notion that WG may end up moving Dutch ships into a own nation tree. Just for arguments sake and to cater towards the group most likely being "offended" by wrong nation /ship combination assume that we have four Dutch players. A had Blyska before she moved from POL to EU and being a pragmatic dude he used his blyska dude on Friesland too, which he bought for fxp, before moving that commander up the EU DD line all the way to Ostergotland (runs Halland with the EU unique guy). With your logic non of his EU commanders would be eligible for a transfer, despite him maybe using ostergotland simply as a parking place for his Friesland /blyska commander and not minding losing him if he was eligible for transfer. Player B also got his Friesland without a commander, but he has one from VU (santa crate) which only used Form Friesland (and not for VU) in the old skill system and still does. Not Dutch, not assigned to Friesland.. no transfer again. Despite being only run in Friesland. Player C got Friesland from a crate, thus with a 10pt commander and then used that one to grind the IKEA dds. All the way up to Halland and lv19, because due to RL he missed out on Swirski. That guy is Dutch so he would be eligible for a transfer, but that may cost him his Halland captain. Player D bought Friesland as a bundle along with a 10pt commander and for patriotic or roleplay/immersion reasons never assigned him elsewhere. Friesland moves /gets traded, Commander moves too and no issues with EU ships. 2 out of four are not eligible for a transfer, because they choose pragmatism over immersion. One of the other two loses nothing, one has to make a hard choice and possibly reinvest in a Halland captain. Doesnt look like a solution that's fair or helpful for the majority of players and given how premium ships work I don't think it's a good approach either... -

Because while that may make sense from a RPG Pov, it is also not a fair option either. I don't think everyone is upset, I would rather guess that only a minority is getting the short stick or at least feel that they get it. Personally I think that the situation is so complex that there is no real option for WG where nobody gets upset. unless they go way way over the top in terms of compensation, including making the system super easy to abuse (which would also create inequality) and offering multiple options. Which then raises the question how much effort would have to got into such a solution (=costs) and how it compares to a simpler solution like the one they are going for. -

Update 0.10.6, Friesland and the Netherlands. (DB 161)
Khaba_Gandalf replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
Which exactly was my point, there are only three ways to get a captain assigned to Friesland : A) you bought her as a bundle for hard cash in the premium store back when she was released B) you spend hard cash on santa crates and pulled a Friesland that also came with a 10pt captain C) you hired a captain manually on her in port and then spend time or ECXP to raise him to a decent level But given that she is a premium chances are high that most of these people at some point moved that captain elsewhere, because as you mentioned there is no need to have a captain assigned to a premium ship. So if WG were to only copy or move those captains that are assigned to her the majority of Friesland owners would end up with a Friesland without a captain in the NL nation. Which is why we had that big outcry after WG announced the move in the dev blog some weeks ago. Then people asked for a captain either being transferred or copied that was on the ship on patch day and with the polish dude being a thing it should be clear why WG didn't went for that idea... -

+1 Unless you are Dutch AND have some very roleplayish or nationalistic approach to the game that either forces you to only play dutch ships or makes you feel affronted by a Dutch ship existing in two nations, I don't see why that save approach by WG is bad. Yes, they could have spared themselves the flak and went for that approach directly but tbh I don't have any pity for people who bought Friesland now before WG made a final decision on the captain question. I mean there was no need to hurry... Regarding the Groningen, I will prolly wait until WG tells us more about the Dutch release content. But I guess I will get her in the long run, esp if the Dutch nation gets a legendary captain with more synergies than the Polish dude offers for Friesland. -
Interessante Infos aus aller Welt - Diskussionen und Meinungen
Khaba_Gandalf replied to LilJumpa's topic in Allgemeine Diskussionen

Khaba_Gandalf replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
The issue with the captain cloning is that she's a premium and what in your train of thought constitutes a Friesland captain? a) the one that's assigned/specialized to that ship? I pretty sure WG has the exact numbers, but my guess would be that the majority of Friesland owners either never had a assigned captain or changed that when IKEA DDs went live. b) the one that's sitting on said ship on patch day? That would create a twofold problem... 1. What if I put my Swierski dude on him the day before the patch goes live? Do I then get a exact copy of him in the NL tree with all his perks? 2. If the captain is simply cloned as a generic captain, I can tell you what I would do: Put my Swierski onto Friesland, invent the ECXP to raise him from 19 to 21 and after the patch goes live I get a 2.9M ECXP captain in the dutch line for free and still have my lv21 Swierski in EU, who is trained for Halland... I would have preferred the HSF option, but I'm not sure how work intensive that would have been for WG. So I'm fine with the approach they are taking, unless you're Dutch and seriously offended by having two versions of Friesland in the game in two different nations.... which I'm not. -
[Poll] Are you playing "The Brawl" ?
Khaba_Gandalf replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
For me the answer is "yes, but..." Which means the time /reward ratio sucks compared to good old ranked sprint. Let's say you have a 60% WR as full clan div, that's more than 50 games to clear the mission chain and get the 10k coal. That's more than double what you would have needed in old sprint for rank1 with a similar WR. Also t10 brawl on top of t10 CBs... But I will play it if I get a full clan div on non cb days because a) I prefer playing with my mates and b) it thus to some degree improves teamwork for cbs due to the larger division size compared to random. -

After getting all ships from the event I switched to 3 daily pulls from the wishing well, cause I still miss U-81... ...today I f*cked up and went for 3 builds followed by 7 (hoping to get her before the event ends). Stupid/coffee-starved me build 7 event pulls instead of wishing well pulls. Guess which ship I got again. Yes, another NJ and nothing else. Not that I already raised her to max level... *facepalm* Rodney skin is super cute btw -
Langsames entfernen der Free Xp Schiffe???
Khaba_Gandalf replied to Tsingtaugeschwader's topic in Allgemeine Diskussionen
In Summe 10200. -
Langsames entfernen der Free Xp Schiffe???
Khaba_Gandalf replied to Tsingtaugeschwader's topic in Allgemeine Diskussionen

(denke next Patch).

commander skills on different ship types
Khaba_Gandalf replied to Alchemist79's topic in Newcomers' Section
Correct, you can : 1. Reassign a commander from a tech tree battleship to a cruiser of the same nation and only pay the fee for training him on a new ship instead of having to reset his skills because the four class trees are independent from each others. 2. You can power level a commander of a tech tree battleship by playing further battles on any premium ship of that nation using the class skills. In the old system a bb commander on a premium cv was like using a zero / low level one because there was only one skill matrix shared by all four classes. -

No I am not and that was my line of thought too. In terms of UR BPs I still have my hands full with both Azuma and Drake and tbh I'm not a huge fan of FdGs character design either, so her now being surpassed by NJ is fine with me. Esp. since I do have the necessary bulins to max-break her + in terms of min/max-ing Iron Blood is way weaker than Eagle Union as a faction. Heck, I don't like the design of most IB capital ships, so even w/o taking OpSiren or Stage 12+ into account I'd rather field a EU or RN faction fleet anyway. -

Thing is there is no "solultion" to your "problem", because you are talking about three totally different things coming together 1. MM queue 2. Ship distribution 3. Player skill distribution (both in terms of team vs team and ship vs ship) 1. MM queue: The MM has to work with what's available. If you limit the amount of any ship per match, the queue will create some kind of backlog if one class is too popular in relation to its slots/team and forcing people into longer waiting times is not something WG wants to do. The big question here also is: What leads to 4 DDs games. Is it the amount of DD backlog in the queue or is it because SOMEONE is sitting in the queue too long and then the MM enforces a match working with what's available to him right in now - restricted by the rules how matches are created. Let's phrase it that way: I never had any waiting time issues with DDs in ranked and randoms, so it's not likely that the demand for DD slots is higher than the availability. This ain't true if I pick BBs in ranked. Same with randoms and in randoms the regular rules are max of 5BB per team and max of 4 DDs. If we assume that Ranked MM works similar, it's more than likely that MM enforces a game with 4 DDs because a) one of the BBs is sitting there too long and b) at that point there are not enough cruisers of the same tier in the queue for the MMaker to build a match according to its rules w/o drafting in up to 4DDs to make up for the lack of same-tier CVs and Cruisers. And you can't force people to pick classes they don't like in general or at that tier value. There may be some who would switch from Class A to B if the waiting time in the queue is too long, but some others may simply end up skipping the mode and play something else (either mode or maybe a different game all along) because they want to play class A AND they don't like to wait 2-5 minutes for a match to happen in their spare leisure time. 2. With how the MM works same number of ships or a more balanced distribution between classes doesn't mean the choices are balanced. Let's say you get a epicentre match with 3BB/3CA/1DD and team A has one (or more) radar yet team B has none. On top of that team A has a Black (or Friesland), while team B gets a Tashkent. Chances are pretty high that either team B gets no cap because the Tashkent doesn't even goes close to the middle/inner rings of the epicentre or she gets outspotted (or lit by radar) and then nuked. And WG will not change that, because that either increases waiting time (if the MM has to wait for another Radar cruiser of the same tier to hit the queue) or gives you information you shouldn't have: If MM distributes radars evenly and I get a Chapa and you get an Edi, that would tell me that your Edi runs radar instead of smoke. Add the existence of radar DDs and the problem multiplies, so WG goes the easy road because they think (or know) that people hate long queue times more than having a radar imbalance 3. Even with lower number of DDs, MM can screw you if key ships in your team are driven by drunken weekendwarriors (who may also watch soccer or lewd stuff on a second screen while playing ranked). Lets say you get 4/1/2 setup, both cruisers have radar and your Chapa drives towards the cap in open water, gets spotted, tries to turn away and get nuked within the first 2 minutes of the game. Good luck winning that one . Again skilled MM would lead to lead to more rules for the MM to stick to while creating a match, thus longer waiting times (esp. outside of prime time) and that's not something WG wants to do So bottomline: DDs dying early issue is not a DD issue that can be fixed by simply limiting the amount of DDs. I would even go so far that matches with low number of DDs are worse than ones with high numbers of DDs, simply because more likely than not those missing DDs will be replaced by BBs (the most popular class on the server) and then its gets rather static. If you get a ranked game with 4 DDs sh*t will happen fast. If you get a match with just one but a metric ton of BBs and a lone cruiser, I'd rather watch paint dry. Because the cruiser won't move up to support his DD, because the closer he gets the harder it is to angle vs that many BBs and the BBs won't move up until the enemy DD is dead because torps... So the real answer to your problem is either go play DD yourself and be the one that doesn't die early (and thus carry its team) or play something that supports your DDs well and thus make it more likely that the enemy DDs die first (unless you get that rare match where all your DDs are tomatoes that try to catch as many torps as they can within the first 3 minutes of the game) Thing is that kind of queue distribution isn't tied to league level, let's take a look at distribution of last ranked (S2) T8 38% BBs / 26% Cruisers /25% DDs / 11% CVs T9 43% BBs / 30 % DDs / 27% DDs T10 33% BBs / 33% Cruisers /31 % DDs /3% CVs Distribution for random games is pretty similar, so on average you don't have more DDs than anything else.

Number 91 got me NJ, which brings my quota up to: 1 NJ 2 Archerfish 1 Tico 3 Boise Zero San Fran so far... plan now is to stick to 3xevent builds until she drops, then switch to the wishing well (still miss U-81)...
