Exactly this. As a mostly DD and Cruiser player (I have BB's to T10, but I'm not fond of the gameplay) the reason cruisers struggle to take on DD's is the very real risk of deletion by BB unless there's a suitable island to camp and on higher tier maps that's not common. With typically 5 BB's per side angling is very difficult ranging to impossible due to crossfire. There's nothing critically wrong with the current radar mechanics, while they're not realistic, as has been pointed out this isn't a simulator game, not even partially.

Erm, don't you mean increase dispersion so that they miss a lot more?

Aigle marathon, how's your progress been so far?
BeauNidl3 replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I had a spare 10 point captain and I like DD's, but this ship just has too little going for it to make me want to play it. I've finished the campaign Aigle missions (in CoOp) and I probably won't bother with it again. -
I voted no, but I'll qualify it. I only use wide spread in very specific circumstances and rare occasions, Shima may use 2 narrow 1 wide or at suicide range on others. The number of times I've seen T8+ DD's using nothing but wide spreads at spotted targets 7-10 km away is enough to make me cry into my beer.

Flamu's Discussion - WoWS: The Focus On Damage
BeauNidl3 replied to xScoundrelx's topic in General Discussion
I agree with the gist of the thread and Flamu's intent that damage is rewarded up front while the less conspicuous, but equally important things aren't. It's a symptom of the wider issue which is the whole scoring system in the game. It needs a significant revamp to emphasise team play rather than selfish damage farming which is what it rewards now. If nothing else take a look at the scoring in Clan Battles, everyone scores the same as it's a pure team effort so it's not exactly a radical step to revise the scoring system for Randoms, Ranked and CoOp. (No I'm not suggesting each member of the winning team scores the same, just demonstrating that alternate forms of scoring are perfectly possible).- 88 replies

^ Good points.^ IJN Torps can win DD fights or beat a DD up badly enough that when you use your superior spotting a salvo or two will finish the enemy DD, it's situational, but believing that IJN DD's can only hunt BB's is beyond silly, they contribute far more played right. Farming damage is not the critical function of a DD, it's a nice bonus.

Can you start a fire with a shatter/bounce?
BeauNidl3 replied to Beaker71's topic in General Discussion
I think you're right although I have no proof. Only way to be 100% sure is take a run in the training room and test it with single shots. Edit: Thinking about it I sat in smoke in my Harekaze with the100mm rapid firing guns, spamming a couple of Tirpitz in B cap on Trap, started 12 fires in 120ish hits, all shatters (easy to tell as in results I scored no damage by gunfire, just fires and torps). No idea why they didn't push me and blow me up, but that's BB drivers in reverse for you. -
It's perfectly possible to contest caps at the start in Kagero/Harekaze, Yugumo and Shimakaze, it just takes a bit of care and situational awareness. People who dance around the caps and fail to do the critical spotting job tend to just annoy their support who may well go elsewhere. It's easier to defend a cap than take it away from a team defending plus it earns points. Most of the DD drivers that won't contest are primarily interested in farming damage which is of limited use compared to objectives and spotting.

French Battleships : GOD in WOW !!!
BeauNidl3 replied to anonym_IWDmAoWWysc1's topic in General Discussion
I'm at the Lyon and about half way to the Richelieu, would I rate it as OP? Nope, but I'm not a particularly good BB player. I have seen some Lyon drivers using HE, but with that low fire chance and relatively low damage compared to AP I can't see why they bother. For that matter vs an HE spamming Lyon I turn broadside and blow them out of the water with all guns. I suspect that people are still wedded to the daft idea that HE is great on non RN BB's which I find utterly comical. The French BB's are far from astonishing and the gem seems to be the Alsace from what I've seen in matches, not seen enough Repupliques to draw a conclusion. -
Which is sensible of them. I like the idea as it would add flavour to the game, but I can understand why it's unfortunately a non starter, pity it would be fun.

Target Aquisition Mod vs Concealment Mod
BeauNidl3 replied to Arnianor's topic in General Discussion
Sensible question, deserved the sensible answers. -
Are you sure your graphics card is working properly or that the game is using the right card (some machines have 2)? The stuttering only starts for me after 5-8 games, it's not consistent and if I forget to restart I get caught out, which is why people are postulating it's a memory leak. Defects that come on over time and are cured by a restart often point at a dodgy bit of code which ties up increasing quantities of memory.

Target Aquisition Mod vs Concealment Mod
BeauNidl3 replied to Arnianor's topic in General Discussion
I tried out the Target Acquisition Mod for a few weeks on my secondary built Tirpitz, found it pretty much useless. I have no ships without the Concealment Mod (not a Khaba player, maybe it's pointless on that, I'm not qualified to say) which I find a shame as it's a lack of flexibility that the game could use. -
If that's demonstrating some "principle" then I can't see it. If you still played (which you keep claiming you don't as if that's something terrible for the player base as a whole) then you still have access to a commander with the same skills you had before, they have removed the graphic and sound effects, but that's entirely cosmetic and trivial so hardly a bait and switch. The only "principle" I can detect is you're defending your right to moan about something that doesn't have any effect on you at all, especially since you no longer play the game.
-
What principle? People with the captain still have the captain, he's just got a different name and no voice over. Since you don't play then there's not even the "principle" that your game experience could in any way be affected by the captain eye candy and voice being changed. You're just moaning for the sake of moaning.
-
Why? You've quit playing so surely the removal of some pixellated representation of this individual can't matter at all to you.
-
To be fair, cyclone or not, if you've not fired in the last 20 seconds and get spotted by something you can't see in a US Radar cruiser you're pretty sure there's a DD in, or very close to, Radar range, slightly less so in the RU ones, but very little difference. Not rocket science, just an awareness of Radar and spotting range which should be second nature to cruiser driver. I'm not fond of cyclones, but they do add some flavour to the game.

Can anybody give me 1 reason why i should not leave this game?
BeauNidl3 replied to WingedHussar_Adler's topic in General Discussion
Yet you keep posting even though you claim to have uninstalled, weird that. @15JG52Adler if you're not enjoying playing the game then don't play it. Seems silly to keep playing if it's not fun any more. I've played many games for many years that I then quit when they stopped being fun and just got frustrating. -
No thanks, we have enough problems with game stuttering on even very good graphics cards and fast PC's I've no desire for extra graphics clutter.

No rewards for completing a 5* Scenario
BeauNidl3 replied to Scarebird's topic in General Discussion
Fun. Experience. Helping friends get 5 stars. 3 reasons right there. -
As do I, but when you see someone NOT WASDing at all except when torpedoes are in the water and doing so repeatedly, there's something distinctly suspicious. Especially when it is witnessed by more than one person.
-
The only thing that I've seen (and clanmates have seen after being sunk while I'm still alive in DD) is very suspicious torpedo dodging as soon as they hit the water, this is from an unspotted DD. Yes people WASD hack, I do too, but when someone is holding a steady course for some time then WASD's as soon as the torps are fired it's very suspicious. Before people go on about Priority Target blinking I routinely swap torps to guns and back repeatedly so any blinking isn't a real indication. One of the cheats available in a certain programme, that I won't name on here, displays the torpedo tracks as soon as they're in the water (unspotted) from their origin and I'm certain some people use it to see when torpedoes are launched.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
BeauNidl3 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
@xXx__VAMPA__xXx in his Ibuki, despite his best efforts his team went to hell in a handcart rather fast. Not much help to the poor guy, typical weekend derping team he had. -
Nope not on ultra version of the client here. No GEforce experience. Have tried the most recent to the last 4 versions of the Nvidia drivers (clean installs every time) Tried running without mods both uninstalling and the "Safe Mode" option in the launcher. 5-8 games it starts to stutter badly and only a client restart cures it.

Code accepted, even if it doesn't pay off thanks for sharing it @Jethro_Grey.
