List of small changes/tweaks which might make game experience smoother
Fat_Maniac replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
Not trolling but I thought we had a suggestions thread pinned at the top of this sub forum, for stuff like this. However, I like all the idea's listed here, especially the how many of my team are targeting an enemy. -
HELP: This game is dying for me.
Fat_Maniac replied to Thanks_for_all_the_fish's topic in General Discussion
2 mths to T10 is way too early. The goal of the game isn't to get to T10 as quickly as possible, although WG would like you too, because you will probably have spent hard cash to get there, premium time, spending gold etc. My advice would be, Drop back down to a tier where you are comfortable, but are being challenged, to learn from your mistakes. Also play as many ship lines up to T5 as you can, you will start to get a feel for the way the different classes and nations perform. Find a line you like, and grind that. Watch lots of vids and streamer to see how they play, and get to grips with all the game mechanics and meta. Remember T5 and T8 are huge step changes and are probably the most frustrating and difficult tiers to play For the moment I'd ignore CV's until the rework comes (if ever), there is no point learning to play something that is probably going to change dramatically in the next few months. And try and join a clan where you can play with other members in div's and get some training. And finally don't worry too much about your stats, they will get better as you improve. Use a site like WoWSNumbers and look at the graphs, as long as your trend is upwards, you are doing things right. Good luck and have fun -
Oh and please no commentaries from the same voices used in the Operations, they are well... a bit meh.
-
In our clan we run reenactments of naval battles, It would be great to see some famous historical battles played out using WoWS, So for example Battle of the North Cape, Jutland, or River Plate to name three possibilities.
-
Hope it works.

Ok usual questions to ask. Any mods? And are all your drivers up to date? Have you run an integrity check on your installation? Yes I know you reinstalled, but you may not have deleted everything.
-
I hope this happens. However the big concern I have is WG will drop it using the old 'this concept is too complicated for the average player to understand' reason. However WG if you do introduce this, nobody will be able to take you to task on Radar and Hydro working through islands.

I'd actually prefer to see this map restricted to BB only matches. If they want to sit back camp and snipe then they can. Clear a few out of the MM queue. And of course I'm not telling you how to play, I'm not that stupid or arrogant. Look at my last words ... At least that's how I play, but each to there own, there's no way I'm saying play like this , or the easy get gud or l2p answers, that others might give.
-
So on ocean adapt your play style. 1 - use your stealth to approach your enemy, without firing. 2 - Turn about angle yourself, reduce speed, and open fire. 3 If/when you start to fall out of range of your guns, stop shooting go stealthy again. 4. Re-position if necessary, and return to step 1. Same applies on any map you find yourself in open water on in a cruiser, if you cant get to cover. At least that's how I play, but each to there own, there's no way I'm saying play like this , or the easy get gud or l2p answers, that others might give. I am very much still learning the game, but his tactic seems to work for me.

Ocean is the best training map. It forces you to acknowledge your ships weaknesses, and adapt your game play accordingly. And it's a fantastic way to learn to angle correctly, position correctly, and sit at the most effective ranges. Do it wrong and you die quickly, and hopefully learn from your mistakes. Do it right and you know you did good.

I'd like to repeat my question: when and why is a ship deemed OP?
Fat_Maniac replied to Ferry_25's topic in General Discussion
When WG look at all their game stats and realize that this ship is performing much better than expected against it's peers. Add in WG stats also include player performance stats, so if a potato for example consistently does well in a premium and this trend is repeated across the player base WG know they have a problem. That's the way I look at it. -
@EaSyCoMpAnY1970I bet I know exactly what happened... Here is a PvE player who was looking at his mission objective window in port. He hit the battle button on that window. What happened next is the good bit. Regardless of what battle mode he has selected in the ship view port UI screen, the game automatically queues you for a random battle. So the poor guy who is used to playing PvE by having Co-Op selected as his battle type, finds himself in an unexpected Random battle. It's a wonderful little feature of the game, not many know about.

Did Anyone Buy a Ship With Coal?
Fat_Maniac replied to FormationCloudsDefance's topic in General Discussion
I bought Campbeltown, only because I didn't have her already and with RN DD's coming soon it seemed like a good idea. -
Not that rare. has happened me several times in my stock hull Hipper that I've just started grinding. Suicide is definitely not the answer, just be more cautious play defensively and with support. Being bottom tier is actually a huge opportunity @Crusherheads to earn more XP by killing higher tier enemies

Operations - no full division need on off weeks?!
Fat_Maniac replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's question in Q&A Section
I believe it has always been the case that a minimum div of 4 is needed to start an operation that is not the op of the week. However the MM does not fill in the gaps, you go in with what you have in your div alone. -
Lots of clan commanders have asked for it, and I've heard or seen nothing more. I was hoping some of the new clan functionality we have been promised this year might include a Div Commander role at least
-
Have asked for this since clan battles season 1.

Where do you shoot to gain the most effectiveness?
Fat_Maniac replied to howardxu_23's question in Q&A Section
Sorry but there isn't an easy or quick answer to this. It depends on the ship, or the line in general that you are aiming at, and on the ship you are sailing. You need to learn the general armour layouts of all ships, and understand what your guns can penetrate, as well as where the enemy citadels are, and if you can actually get to them. Also the ballistics of how your shells travel to target have a big part to play, as you will get different effects at different ranges. A good thing to do is as you get a new ship, take her in the training room and put up a load of inactive target bots of ships you have difficulty damaging. Try firing at different ranges and angles and see what gets you the citadels and damage we all want. Also watch somebody like Flamu on youtube for his review of your ship and how to play her to get the most from it. Sorry but basically you need to learn the game meta. I've been playing casually for over a year and I still have lots to learn. -
Cool Thank you so much, this covers what I needed to know. Personally I have no issue with streaming and being streamed etc, I asked only because a clan mate had said he didn't want to be streamed.
-
If I was to start streaming, where does that stand with privacy law? By streaming I'm obviously happy for my name and game play to be seen by anybody watching, but what about other people in the battle? Does the EULA we all agreed too cover the streaming of game content? And if I was in div with people what are the legalities around streaming their voice comms?
-
Wow you do realise under the GDPR if you can identify a person by a combination of their game name and any other information available then it could be a breach of EU law? If say somebody used a game name that they used elsewhere and a google search was able to find their game name elsewhere with other information that could identify them then that's a breach - I think, if I have just read the regulation correctly. I really think WG need to look at this. I know as players of an MMO we should expect for our in game names to appear anywhere in any form, but if it can identify us then it's a big issue. For example here on the forum, if a player uses there real name in some form and in their location info on their account they put in their home town and country, you could possibly identify them AND that would be a breach.
-
@Tuccy & @Crysantos. Does anyone have a definitive answer to this yet?
-
And bot behavior is scripted. Play this OP enough times and you should be able to predict what is coming at you and when. Players need to understand you win stars by completing objectives NOT by killing every red ship that appears. So many players yolo off to kill stuff, and ignore what you are actually asked to do. Its there in text AND the voice over, cheesy as it is, tells you what to do. I'm really not sure what else WG can do to give people clues as to what to do.

What sights do you guys use?
Fat_Maniac replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
I've always used static, but I've just changed to dynamic, to see if I can improve my aim. I'm starting to find my aim is becoming much more instinctive, but I do find the extended player panels in the official modpak a God send, to help learn top speeds of all the ships in game. -
You can already play any operation currently in the live release. You simply have to have a division of at least 4 to play any that is not the Operation of the week. But a word of warning, if you go this way and don't have a full div of 7 the game will not pull random players from the queue to fill empty places, on any operation other than the current Operation of the week.
