PSA: 6 YEARS of WoWS perma camos won't give you ship XP bonuses, only commander and FreeXP
tocqueville8 replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
If you don't care about ship xp because it's élite, and you don't add any modifiers, it's just the same as far as cpt xp and free xp are concerned. Camos with only cpt xp or free xp bonuses already exist: I got some New Orleans, Z-23, Kiev... Not everything is a conspiracy to screw the players out of...12.5% cpt xp, or whatever. As for the containers, it all depends on how much you're going to be using that permacamo, I suppose. -
Saipan is his most played ship. Kaga planes actually regen quite slowly: about 90s for the torpedo bombers, compared to about 70s on the Shokaku.
-
Seems like you've got a Saipan already. It also seems like you're struggling a bit above T6, so if I were you I'd go for something lower than T8, or at least I'd get something with a heal, like an Atago or a Kidd.

The way I see it, "premature endings" should be possible in Ranked or Clan Battles, where your objective is mostly to win/get the star and try again with the same ship (assuming you picked one that's particularly suited to the format). I know some chads grind lines in Ranked, but most players rotate 4-5 ships or even just go for the same over and over as long as they have a decent win streak. In Randoms, on the other hand, let me at least farm some more xp in a steamroll, either way. I had a game recently on Land of Fire where I spawned on the flank, went for it, won it, but some enemy DD snuck in the middle while our team was split, and capped our base. I wouldn't have minded it in a long-ish game, but this was over so quickly that I topped my team with some 500 xp, while their best player got 750 or so. In a win. That's just a waste of everyone's time and a lot of people's camos and signals. Let's be honest, the first few minutes of a game, while often the most decisive ones in terms of setting up crossfires, radar positions, etc., are also the most boring, as you just sail forward with no target and no immediate threat to you. The last few minutes are either very exciting, as with fewer ships around your share in the team grows and with it your responsibility, or you're dead and playing something else, so you don't care. Therefore, and counterintuitively, short games are actually more boring than long ones, so they should be limited. Again, I enjoy winning, but I prefer a good, satisfying loss to a steamroll win where I get low xp and credits because I was being cautious (or I was sailing a Colorado...). Even steamroll losses would be more tolerable, imho, if they didn't end with a team being zeroed out: let me do some more damage and let me take a lot more (more xp for both sides), but at least give me some "engagement".

PSA: 6 YEARS of WoWS perma camos won't give you ship XP bonuses, only commander and FreeXP
tocqueville8 replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Ship XP also translates 1:1 to Cpt XP and 1:0.05 to Free XP, while the reverse isn't true. A ship XP bonus covers all three, while this camo covers only two, basically. -

Forgot to get a nice pic of the SC opening, but hey, a T6 premium is a T6 premium. And not a crappy Makarov, either! -

T10 match, the MM genie gets drunk and puts no CV, 8 cruisers per team. I decide to be brave and take my Des Moines to the islands around B. Cruisers appear, hilarity ensues -

Not sure it changes anything in the balance with 2020, but T5-9 at 40 ships per tier is 200 ships, not 240. I mean, I get it: it's less stuff than last year, but not by much. Maybe it's just that I have a lot more SCs to look forward to this time around... -
- change clan, play at least *some* Clan Battles - play Ranked, at least enough to get the rewards for winning games in the League you feel comfortable with (you don't have to rank out) - 40 steel/day will buy you a steel ship in a year and a half, with the coupon, if you're diligent - Supercontainers will occasionally drop 1.5k steel: if you have some T10 ships, and you get lucky, the current event might give you some

If you have over 33 T9s in port (I'm not following the math, but I trust you) the event is ever so slightly worse than last year, special signals-wise. But we now get special signals on a weekly basis, so they're not as rare to begin with. I still wouldn't call it "meh": it's a lot of free stuff, the SCs in particular. It's certainly not "money-grabbing" like another commentator was suggesting. Considering the amount of vitriol and controversy between the playerbase and the company, this Anniversary event seems just fine. -
Which one? Pics or it didn't happen!

I don't understand where the money-grabbing is supposed to happen. I'll be getting some 40 supercontainers and hundreds of special signals absolutely for free: all I have to do is play the game, which I'd be doing anyway. -
PSA: 6 YEARS of WoWS perma camos won't give you ship XP bonuses, only commander and FreeXP
tocqueville8 replied to wot_2016_gunner's topic in General Discussion
Right, but if you use a ship xp flag instead: - a 50% ship xp camo (what we expected) gives you 1000 * 2 * 0.05 = 100 FXP - a 50% FXP camo (like these Anniversary ones) gives you 1000 * 1.5 * 0.05 * 1.5 = 112.5 FXP So the 2 things are reversed. Generally, I keep my flags for high-tier grinds. When I play, say, the Fuso (permacamo and permacaptain), I don't run economic flags at all. -

Indeed it is worse, I'm just saying there's a pretty common situation in which you don't care. -

Sure, it's bad if your idea was to use the camo to grind or re-grind the ship. But for instance, I have already grinded them, I'm not going to re-grind them (I choose other lines for that) and I have a permacaptain for some of them, so the extra cpt xp and free xp would be all that actually matters to me. Personally, I'm more disappointed with the limited ship selection: no KGV, Fiji, Helena, Shiratsuyu, Algerie, Nagato, Myoko...it's missing lots of real ships in favor of paper ships (Lyon and Yorck, for instance). -
I'm going to play Randoms on anything with at least a 10 point captain, Co-op for the rest.

81 hits 8000 damage in Seattle
tocqueville8 replied to VedranSeaWolf359's topic in General Discussion
Seattle HE pens 30 mm of armor plating, 37 if you take the IFHE skill (4 points), which however halves your base fire chance. At T8-10, battleships have 19 mm superstructure plating and *at least* 32 mm deck and hull plating (38, 40, 50, 57 are possible, among others), while cruisers have usually 25, 30 or 50 mm plating (some have only 16 mm extremities, the Riga has a 35 mm upper belt, etc.). Basically, if you want to pen BBs with the Seattle: - aim at the superstructure - take IFHE, but be aware that a lot of armor you shoot at is thicker than 37 mm, so you'll still shatter, but you'll also have a much lower fire chance. -
I'm happy to report that brawling has been fixed :
-
I'm fairly new to the GK, but I think I can say: 1) While she does have a large superstructure, she just doesn't melt under HE spam the way a French or British BB would, due to her 50 mm deck. She also has the hp to take it (fires don't care, but HE spam does). 2) She is indeed better on a flank, but not if it's too open and she gets kited. Let's just say she's better in narrow areas. 3) If you spawn in the middle, Concealment Expert will be of some help getting to the flank, to hard cover or both without losing too much hp along the way. Particularly if your team leaves the middle wide open and you get pushed by a DD, the CV won't answer your calls, etc. 4) Imho, the secondary build IS recommended. She just doesn't have the accuracy, concealment, agility, overmatch or fire chance to make it as a sniper. In some games it just won't work, but in most it will, at least to some extent, and a TIMELY push by a GK can win a flank and the game. 5) In BB vs BB fights, the trick is clearly to forget about the rear turrets and their horrid angles. Also, firing HE synergizes well with the secondaries: the alpha is low (German HE...), but a triple permafire will quickly melt anyone. Mine is going to be specced like this: I'm still missing Fire Prevention and Concealment Expert, so she's indeed more "death-or-glory" than necessary I wouldn't bother with the extra heal skill, as they're not fast on the cooldown like on the Massa/Georgia/Ohio. Realistically, during one of your pushes you might get to use 2 at most. If she were a long-range BB, sure, but as a brawler I think your job is to maximise your weapon performance and your short-term survival.

Would you pay for a improved (elitte) matchmaking like premium time ?
tocqueville8 replied to Cirno9999's topic in General Discussion
I would pay for a MM that makes steamrolls less common, possibly by keeping the average winrate of the two teams within a certain interval. Then again, some steamrolls are going to happen anyway: unavoidable randomness + Lanchester's square law, or something like that... With fewer steamrolls, games would last longer and generally be more profitable, as least for a decent player like myself. Sure, they would also take longer, so maybe at low-mid tiers they would turn out to be *less* profitable per unit of time, but not at high tiers, I think. In a way, it would be a bit like premium time, except it would feel earned, not an artificial bonus. -

How many 21-Pts Captains do you have?
tocqueville8 replied to Prophecy82's topic in General Discussion
It depends on the class imho. On BBs, those 2 extra points might buy you the extra healing, which is nice in some games but useless in many. On cruisers, the last few skills are just for flavor: RPF, more AA, the spotter thing... But on DDs, if you go for a typical 1-1-2-3 setup, they can mean AFT, which makes you a much better farmer, or RPF/Fearless Brawler, both a massive advantage when DD hunting. -
