100k coal is about 50 days' worth of daily rewards (say, 4 bags out of 3 containers, plus 400 from daily missions). But 100M credits can take either more or less to grind, depending on premium time, flags, camos, high-tier ships, etc. And lots of items in the armor are only for coal (or steel).

Are in distant Voyages containers one premium camo is guaranteed?

The USS Bernie Sanders, dressed up like a golden toilet at Trump Tower -
I would have a 19 point captain, at a minimum, with a dedicated torpedo build. Or I'd use my Z-52 captain, standard build, also 19+ points. After a while, the concept of a freemium being "worth it" becomes blurry. Was the Hayate worth it? She's not as good/unique as the Smaland, but what's a better use of that 2M FXP? To regrind lines and get...50-100% of an Ohio? Maybe she's a better ship, but I've got plenty of good ships already.
-
Of course it's not charity: it's an auction (where I only bid 10-20% over the clearing price, so it's not like I was swindled or anything...), an opportunity to exchange in-game currencies. But again, I have no use for a "silver reserve": I won the coal auction the 1st time, didn't participate the 2nd time (there was a 2nd time, right?), as I had spent most of my credits on leveling up captains, and now I won again. No biggie. Should I have not participated the 1st time, just because maybe T11 ships might've come 6 months later? Coal and cpt xp are simply worth more to me than credits. I've never bought premium time to get more credits, and if that's what you're getting at.
-
Look, I don't have a single coal commander nor plan to get one, but the idea of sitting on any kind of "credit reserve" is foreign to me: if I have more than 20M to spare, and I'm not about to make a tech tree line purchase, I'll convert some of it to free cpt xp to bring more captains to 21 points, or something like that. I did leave 10M out of the auction bid, as I just unlocked the de Witt, but that's it, really. Cheers

What T11? Where are they? I don't see them on the tech tree. I can get credits whenever I want: I have 2 months' worth of premium from Anniversary SCs and over 120 wyvern flags, plus no shortage of strong high tier ships to mount them on. Meanwhile, coal is limited. I can use it for a ship (even the Z-44, to your dismay), a unique commander, Pi Day camos, Papa Papas, or special modules. Can any of these things be bought for credits? Other than the lines I've just reset, and T9-10 Dutch cruisers, I have all silver T10 that are not early access, so that's taken care of, as well.

1) I'm not sure I'll bother with T11 ships, if and when and how they're going to be implemented. 2) I'm not short of strong freemiums: Jean Bart, Georgia, Salem, Smaland, Hayate, Neustrashimy, Plymouth, Shikishima, Alaska, Marceau, etc. I don't worry about how strong the ship is anymore: I worry about how unique she is, which is why I went for Paolo Emilio, Colbert and Druid before the Ohio, which was my initial objective. 3) I haven't actually bought the Z-44 yet, I'm still about 100k coal short. I'm just saying it's the next one I'm considering, after getting the Napoli a couple of weeks ago. 4) Why the hell do you care?
-
I reset USN CLs, USN CAs and IJN CAs: enough credits to nab the coal and have something do play mid tiers for All to fulfill my long-lasting ambition of owning a Z-44, I guess...

Submarines, should they be removed from Random Battles?
tocqueville8 replied to Dukemaster105's topic in General Discussion
Homing torps make about as much sense as cruise missiles. These things combine: - excellent reload - excellent range - steering towards the target - steering INTO the target, as in you can't torpedbeat even if you angle correctly -
I imagine the DM is better in Randoms, as things often get messy: - the superior radar has a better chance of catching some DD/CL unawares - you're more likely to get crossfired (more enemies around), and therefore to take citadel damage, making the Salem's superheal less useful. The Salem is obviously more survivable in controlled engagements (esp. 1v1 fights), which are more likely to happen in competitive modes. Disclaimer: I've played both quite a bit in Randoms, but barely ever in competitive (I don't play Clan Battles nor Gold League Ranked), so your mileage may vary.

A modest carry in the good old Iowa while being flamed by an unappreciative FdG. I was trying the following build, with an emphasis on agility over fire resistance: Neighbors, Western spawn, T9 match. I go for the NE cap, but the team secures it easily and so I move to B, where I have a standoff with the enemy Georgia before my team focuses her. The enemy Tashkent and Saint-Louis decide to gang up on me with HE, setting a total of 11 fires (30k damage, plus 70k from HE directly). I fall back to the Northern flank, opening a crossfire while my team makes a stand in the middle. Then the abuse starts After our Neptune cripples the enemy de Witt (best player on Red Team) with a "torpedo Hail Mary", I get the kill, then the Neustrashimy and I push into A and I secure the 4th and final kill (that pesky Tashkent), completing the comeback It wasn't just a nice win, it's the satisfaction of shutting up the hecklers Oh yes, he had a divmate, but not a peep from him... -

According to https://wows-numbers.com/player/566314379,The_Chiv/, the Stalingrad is: - your second-best-performing T10 cruiser by WR - your best-performing T10 cruiser by average damage - your best-performing SHIP by damage (if we exclude Vermont, Kremlin and Gouden Leeuw, which you've played for 5 games combined) Also, I don't see why her average damage should be naturally high, if she wasn't very strong. Unlike the Wooster, Colbert, Zao, Henri IV, etc., the Stalingrad relies little on fires and a lot on AP damage, often citadel damage, which is more impactful. That Hindenburg might've misplayed, but it's hard to deny that misplaying against a Stalingrad is both easier and punished more harshly than misplaying against most other T10 cruisers: the Stalingrad has the highest WR of the bunch, and the fact that steel ships have a playerbase bias doesn't explain why she should have a higher WR than, say, Austin and Plymouth, both more recent and likely with a more élite playerbase still. I'm not calling you a bad person for playing the Stalingrad, of course. I'm just saying she is indeed stronger than the average of her peers. -

We have, see my 9-points list at page 3. You're just too lazy to read our opinions, or too self-centered to consider them, or too stubborn to value them. Look, I'm a patient guy, but you haven't really earned the priviledge tell "git gud" to anyone, not with <400 games and some terrible, terrible stats. You've got nothing constructive to say, so I'm muting you. Bye... -

I know all that, but even with a Hindenburg being a Hindenburg, the Stalingrad in that position (18 km away, you say) is probably better than, say, a DM or anything else with worse shell performance. Just a wild stab in the dark: do you happen to be performing better in the Stalingrad than in the Worcester, DM, Zao, Napoli (which you also just got)...? -

tocqueville8 replied to The_Chiv's topic in General Discussion
So do I, but that's not the point I'm arguing. You're attacking a strawman. If you carried in a T8 against T10s, and someone complained about your T8 being OP, sure, he'd be wrong: it is the captain, obviously. But the Stalingrad? No disrespect to you, but she is a very strong ship indeed. She's just a bad example to generalize from. If I melt someone in the Colbert, it's probably to my credit, but in the Conqueror? Not so much, imho. -

tocqueville8 replied to The_Chiv's topic in General Discussion
Let's be honest here: the Stalingrad is very strong, at least gunnery-wise: - insane penetration values - improved penetration angles - insane accuracy (and ballistics). She's also very tanky when nose-in. Is she perfect? No, she's clumsy and vulnerable to AP bombers, as well as when showing broadside, but she's still one of the best high-tier ships. The whole "it's not the ship, it's the captain" argument would be a lot more persuasive if you'd been sailing, let's say, a bottom-tier Helena, or a Paolo Emilio against multiple DDs/hydros/radars, or a Normandie against 2 carriers... -

Once again, you simply don't seem to understand what a good player can do in a sub, probably because A) you're not a good player yourself (no offense), so you have a hard time telling the difference anyway B) you tend to camp at the back, so someone else has to deal with subs and fight around caps in general. Only 11% of your games are in DDs, 0% are in subs themselves, 55% are in BBs, which you've showed us you play very passively. From your point of view, subs are something that happens to other people. So let me make a list: 1) Subs can keep pinging every few seconds, completely overwhelming the Dmgcon consumable, to deliver a bunch of homing torps. No other class in the game can do anything like it. Even carriers can't exactly keep circling the target to get the perfect drop: sooner or later the AA will shred all the planes (granted, not at T3-4, but we're talking mid-high tiers here). 2) It makes no sense that the same Dmgcon consumable should be relied upon to deal with pings, instead of a new "acoustic/electronic countermeasures" (or whatever) consumable. 3) Subs can one-shoot most ships, or at the very least cripple them with citadel damage. 4) They're almost immune to planes. 5) They're hard to sink with depth charges/air strikes, or at least harder than a DD that's spotted at the same distance. I've seen idiotic/incompetent sub captains as well, blundering into DDs, getting Dev-Struck by other subs, etc. That doesn't count. I'm talking about competent captains. Sure, people will learn how to deal with them better, but they'll also learn how to use them better, yet you only mention the first aspect. 6) Airstrikes have limited range, as well as a minimum range. Also poor reload and poor accuracy, unless one specs for them. But it's not worth it to spec into them, as most games will only have 1-2 subs per team. Meanwhile, a BB can finish off a low hp DD at 15 km, with good aim and some luck, by using her main armament (no need for a specific build). 7) Their torps reload too quickly, so even if you dodge/shrug off the first set, you might get Dev Struck by the next one. 8) RPF doesn't work on them while they're submerged (i.e. most of the time, if they know what they're doing). 9) You can't catch them with their pants down with hydro, radar or airplane spotting: delivering damage to them while they're submerged is still tricky and unreliable. TL; DR Your pablum about how "subs are fine, people always overreacts to change" simple ignores the actual gameplay mechanics they were implemented with, and then claims no responsibility by going "hey, I didn't say that I *love* them: what are you so angry at me for?" It's just trolling. You're doing this not to argue a point (how could you, without going into the mechanics?), but to elicit a response that's going to bring attention to you, start a "debate". Hence the frequent reply, "please tell me where I said so and so". That is the issue: you didn't, because your post is too generic to be constructive, as you only wrote it for the attention. The thing is, pretty much all the arguments on this debate are on the same side, at least as long as subs are implemented this particular way, and you're making no effort to convince anyone otherwise.- 148 replies

To be honest, I'm not surprised by this post. The last time I read the OP, he was whining that no one on his team capped, while he sailed to the corner of the map with his top-tier BB. Clearly with that attitude subs aren't a problem, as they're someone else's problem -

You don't get 2 or more rewards at once: you have to clear the bar with each game, it doesn't matter by how much. -

subs literally extract the fun out of the game
tocqueville8 replied to ColorsOfRainbows's topic in General Discussion
I mean...a 88 mm piece might've been enough to slowly sink a merchant vessel, but here in WoWs it's not even T1 firepower... I'd be fine with subs shooting down planes...if planes could drop depth charges, which they really should, with appropriate balancing. Yeah diving is more broken than smokes (you can charge a smoke, but not really force a sub to emerge). I was just pointing out that subs can't give smoke cover to friendlies, which makes DDs more useful in some circumstances. Overall, I find subs a poor addition to the game: 1) homing torps (with pin-point accuracy, unlike most other torps in the game, that have gaps between them) are toxic 2) you can't guarantee a kill even if you're really close to them, after running the gauntlet of homing torps 3) stealthy torpedoboats serve a similar purpose, but they're more fun to play as well as to play against, imho: you can torpedobeat and rush them, but they also have more utility -

tocqueville8 replied to ColorsOfRainbows's topic in General Discussion
I'm okay with torps being semi-steerable. After all, subs have no guns, can't shoot down planes, can't provide a smokescreen, etc., so their torps have to be pretty good to make them worthwhile. But not like this. The problem is that we're not talking about, say, a mid-range a course adjustment for a spread of torps, but rather single fire + constant homing. Say you're in a Fubuki, trying to torp a New Mexico from the side. You might get: - zero hits, if she sails away or makes a hard turn anyway - Dev Strike, if she sails right into them - 1-2 hits, if she maneuvers a bit too late or is unlucky (maybe you stacked all 3 launchers, so she can't fit through the gaps) - zero hits again, if your torps were well-aimed, but not stacked, and she manages to thread the needle Overall, that's fair: you often get nothing, you need a foolish target to earn a Dev Strike, and even a good launch might only give 1-2 hits. Also, if you get spotted at close range you're dead meat, unlike subs which are there but can't be hit, or they can but not enough, which is infuriating. With subs, it seems like it's either nothing or a *massive* amount of damage even if you maneuver. Imho that's just toxic. -
Why is Colombo so garbage and what's the point of SAP
tocqueville8 replied to Itwastuesday's topic in General Discussion
Reportedly shells don't come down quite as vertically as do apparently. I've mostly run a secondary build on the République so far, with decent results. With the Conqueror I also try to stay close enough to draw fire and heal-tank (if there's any such thing). -
