What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Best game I've had in the Shiki since they removed Dead Eye Honestly, she's just a lot better in a division, with people spotting, screening, etc.

After almost 6 years and 10k Random battles …

I have two observations to make. 1) Within limits, bad teams give you more "room" to be the hero than good teams do. Most of the games where I got a kraken, did over 2.5k xp, something close to a damage record, etc., were very close games, which essentially go 50-50. For instance, my only 9 kills game (Jean Bart, a few months ago) and my DD dmg record game (Shimakaze) were both losses. If you're in a good team, you really need to lead the charge to have a chance at getting multiple kills and doing lots of damage, or someone else is going to do it for you. 2) Since they took away flags for achievements, I found myself keeping the same winrate but with shorter, more decisive performances. What I mean is, apparently my strategy has become more focused on sinking the DDs, capping and winning map control than on dealing damage, leading to fewer "confederate" and "high caliber" achievements, among others, but pretty much the same effectiveness. Overall, I think I've hit a plateau in terms of Winrate (I started at 55% and played a lot of mid tiers, now I'm around 58% solo at T10, which is a clear, but not massive improvement), but I have no issue with losing: I have issues with steamroll games that are unsatisfying for both sides. Because they increase the chance of steamrolls, I'm conflicted about the idea of divisioning. It's nice to have competent people helping me help the team, but whenever I run into a triple unicum division on the other side, part of me thinks they should keep that to clan battles, and another part of me thinks I'm a hypocrite

    Hoooly......

Time to break that rule: Marceau is arguably the most fun ship in the game
  4. 1) What's with the obsession for "removing silver from the economy"? Are they anal-retentive or something? If that's what keeps them up at night, why not just reduce the earnings? I mean, they did away with flags for achievements, to make us buy them: isn't that enough? And why not just do more auctions? 2) What would the Tier 12 version of a Hindenburg look like? Same thing, but with quad turrets and Mino reload? Where do you go if you can't add missiles, which would turn WoWs into a Cold Waters mod or something like that?
  5. Well I can see continuing CV lines, as they became dominant with WW2 and have been developed since, but cruisers? Without surface-to-surface missiles, we're just looking at paper ships that scale up, mostly, other paper ships.
  6. Forgive my ignorance, but is any of the current "superships" something that was built in steel? At least *some* Tier 10 ships are real, and appeal-wise they sort of prop up those that are not. It kind of ruins the reputation of certain T10 ships for being the pinnacle of the line. Des Moines, Yamato, Shima, Mino, Hindenburg, Kremlin, etc., have been mainstays of the game for years: we all know them, we all love them or hate them, we probably have memories of epic wins or embarassing failures in each of them. But some uninspired T11 version with one extra turret or more torps per launcher? It's a big MEH from me, frankly If the issue is the economy being too forgiving (is it, really?), just 1) make the coal auction more frequent, 2) add a tool to quickly convert credits to free cpt xp, 3) add some more Research Bureau ships, to encourage people to regrind lines. I'll just go on the record saying I've never played superships other than in the dedicated mode several months ago. If WG has more post-WW2 ships they want to introduce, real or paper, I'd rather they put them as T10 freemiums, like Smaland and Forrest Sherman.

    Equiping my Dido

But Dido also has slower shells, so she has a tougher time reacting to someone showing broadside and hitting their citadel, I reckon. Which I imagine is why most Stalingrad captains use AP more often than people sailing in different cruisers.

    Equiping my Dido

But the impact angle is the second-worst in that table, so that's 97 mm of pen against more effective armor, right? I mean...the pen might be good for 133 mm guns, but it's still bad for cruiser AP: what I'm saying is that she's less AP-focused than a Pensacola or a Trento, and when you combined that with the lack of concealment penalty, that 3-point skill looks very attractive.

    Equiping my Dido

Clearly, but at the "safe" ranges of 12-14 km it might still shatter on some upper belts. I didn't say the AP is always useless, I'm saying it's less useful than on many other cruisers.

    Equiping my Dido

Some thoughts: - AP is often useless in a ship which such low caliber and lazy shell arcs: it'll just shatter - torps are very situational (you can't launch them from stealth), which makes their reload largely irrelevant - if you take IFHE, you should probably take heavy HE and Pyrotechnician to 1) squeeze the most out of the extra penetration you've invested in, 2) help your fire chance back a bit - fires are only really important against BBs, and it's bad to lose them vs Tier 8 BBs (whose 32 mm acting you still won't pen), but crossing the 25 (and 27) mm threshold allows you to damage Tier 8 *cruisers* - I agree with LWM's build, with AR instead of Superintendent, as you often won't get to use a sixth smoke - IFHE is pretty much mandatory in Ranked, as you only face Tier 6-7 ships whose plating is mostly 26 mm

    The economy in WoWs

I got 9 Mega ones for free, having 45 Tier 10 ships at the time. Now, granted, that's out of reach for a lot of players, but its all available for free. Maybe grinding the T9 doesn't pay for the T10, but that's when you play a premium for a while.
  12. tocqueville8

    The economy in WoWs

    1) There are freemiums for Free XP, steel, coal and Research Bureau: it's very hard to lose credits in any of them. 2) You're in Gold: that's 800 doubloons per Sprint, plus those you get every season for qualifying. You can get the 5000 doubloons for a Tier 10 permacamo in less than three months, that way. 3) I'm still sitting on 260 days of Premium time I didn't pay for: got them from Santa containers and anniversary supercontainers. Maybe I was lucky, but honestly, the economy in this game is fine. If you lose credits, play more premium ships or mid tier tech tree ships.

    Unsportsmanlike conduct

The OP is a DD main in Randoms.

    Unsportsmanlike conduct

    1) Post a replay file here. In fact, post one for every ship class (possibly from Randoms), because you're clearly having issues, most likely aiming issues, with all of them. 2) Watch some replays to get a better sense of aiming and basic tactics. https://replayswows.com/ is a good place to find what you need. You don't have to equal any world record, just start following some good practices. From your stats, it looks like in most games you die very early (<20% survival rate) achieving very little. It wouldn't take a lot of effort to change that, and I'm sure it'd be worth it.

Devblog: new plane spotting in testing

Huh, no it's not. The planes on my Midway regenerate every 74, 99 and 76 seconds; the torps on my Shima every 94-117 seconds, depending on my Adrenaline Rush status. In any case, the comparison shouldn't be with plane regeneration, but with plane strike rate, and that can be quite fast if the carrier is close enough to her target. In my recent experience, double CV matches are only common late at night or at Tier 4-6, but it IS common to have carriers at T8-10. I'm not one who finds CVs particularly obnoxious, but many people in this community do, and inevitably there's a stigma attached to the class: CVs are "unpopular" because they are...unpopular, meaning you'll get abuse for playing one. With a lot of people, eventually, that seeps in and they'll avoid the class altogether, because they don't want to put up with the toxic comments every time they get lucky RNG on a DD or they're too busy to put fighters on a teammate on the other side of the map. It's a closed loop, basically: - few people play CVs - WG buffs CVs - more people play CVs - hatred against CVs intensifies - fewer people play CVs

Devblog: new plane spotting in testing

Not if they add a consumable, airborne rotating radar basically, that blows up the whole mechanic on demand. Honestly, this is why I hate reworks: this game is over 6 old and they're still messing around with the core mechanics. By now, it should just be a matter of balance patches where they nerf the concealment of a ship by 5%, buff the torpedo reload by 10 seconds or whatever. Instead, they're trying several iterations of submarines, they're going to make a mess of air spotting (the rocket plane nerf was enough, beyond that they could just reduce air detection radii and/or buff AA), and then superships and whatnot. And new players might end up reading ship reviews where the suggested captain builds are completely obsolete.

Resetting a line in the tech tree?

The modules are also dismounted for free.

Devblog: new plane spotting in testing

So how would I help my DD contesting a cap, if I can only see the enemy DD on the minimap, unless I spot him myself? I guess, but if we are "honest" most high-tier ships would have radar. I'm pretty sure the D7P and colbert had one irl. And if we're honest, ships wouldn't hug their iceberg waifus 3 minutes into the game: we know how that worked out for the Titanic... If a rework to hydro/radar is in order, why not one for ramming and beaching? Let's stick to the subject of AA and plane spotting, is what I'm saying.

    Alsace, BB always on fire

Alsace is a decent performer for me, but I never liked her: weak armor against HE, weak armor against Yamatos and such, crap sigma, bad penetration... Also, the secondaries don't pen anything, not that one should build for them... I had the pleasure of regrinding her with Dead Eye, and she worked reasonably well as a cruiser blapper and an HE spammer, but without it she'd need a buff imho. Maybe 1.7 sigma and better reload

    Forrest Sherman bug?

It opens the "Back to Port / Settings / Help / Resume Game" menu, then it closes it: you resume the game, so nothing happens effectively, other than wasting a couple of seconds. No idea why, but for me it does the trick, and the bug goes away.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Started regrinding the Osterbote Funiculì-funiculà-ed my way to the Ranked rewards for this Sprint Still a hit-and-miss ship for me, but I had a good one tonight

    Forrest Sherman bug?

It might be the usual "guns don't fire, torps don't launch" bug. I had it yesterday in the Ostergotland: one set of torps went just fine, the other did not, even though the reticule was green. In my experience, it's enough to press Esc twice and it should be fine.

    Free XP Grind

Some ships, like the Anshan, have a permanent camouflage that gives more FXP. However, that's not the way to get it quickly. The best way is to use good one-use camos, some economic flags and occasionally the special flags. Premium time also helps a lot, and it's a much better use of doubloons than converting ship XP into FXP. Example #1: A good game (2.3k base xp) in a mid-tier ship with: - premium time - a good camouflage (Bronze or Silver from Ranked, with a +200% FXP bonus) - Equal Speed charlie London flag (+50% XP) and Papa Papa (+300% FXP): both of them can be bought for coal, though I would only do so with the coupon (every 2 weeks); you also get them with the "more resources" containers, as well as the weekly flag containers. Example #2: A good defeat, 1.7k xp (but it would've been the same with a so-so victory) in a premium ship with: - premium time - the standard permanent camouflage (+50% XP), but it would've been better with a one-use camouflage: I'm just stingy - Equal Speed charlie London flag (+50% XP) and Papa Papa (+300% FXP) - ALL special signals With a better camo and a victory, I would've gotten maybe 25-30k XP and FXP. As you can see, the special signals mean you get almost as much FXP as you do XP. Remember: you get some special signals each week, with a few containers refreshing every Thursday, plus a few every month, on the 10th at the earliest: NOTE: Make sure to put ALL the special flags on at the same time (other than the green one, which is just for credits, and the yellow one, which is just for captain XP), as you want to apply the highest possible FXP bonus to the highest possible XP tally. Also, use a ship that performs well for you, with a good captain, and use some combat flags to improve your odds: extra healing, no detonation, maybe more fire chance, etc. Finally, make sure you use the first win of the day bonus, especially when there's a special occasion and it's higher than the usual 50%. Sometimes it's as high as 200%, and you might consider saving your special signals if you know it's coming up, for instance on the Anniversary event (mid September).

    spend dubloons for the canarias/dido

I got the Dido because she's pretty much the only smoke+HE cruiser I could use with a 21 point captain
