That's one impressive set of medals

Is the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya BB any fun in randoms?

Okt Rev gudbote! She used to have my Tier 5 dmg record, barely surpassed by the much more recent Agincourt... Pros: the AP smashes mid-tier cruisers the fire chance is nuts Cons: slow turret traverse ugliest ship in the game, no debate

    Which is the better ship?

I can see a tossup between Shiki and Incomparable, as they're both six shooters relying on overmatch. But the Mecklenburg is a completely different style: more like a GK-Scharnhorst hybrid, with a whopping 16 guns and yet an excellent 2.05 sigma. She's surely a lot better at blapping DDs, more consistent against cruisers (as long as you push close enough to get citadels) and an HE/permafires menace.

    SAP

SAP pens deal comparable damage to AP pens, meaning a lot more than HE pens SAP will bounce if the armor is too angled, but it's more generous than AP in this regard SAP will overmatch light armor just like AP SAP has a fixed amount of penetration, which is much higher than the overmatch value, but still not good enough to penetrate good armor SAP doesn't start fires SAP doesn't overpenetrate SAP doesn't break modules (I had to check the wiki to be sure tbh) like cruiser SAP and unlike BB SAP, DD SAP isn't capped at 10% vs DDs (there's a sentence I'd never thought I'd say...) Basically, SAP is excellent against lightly-armored portions of the enemy ship, but only if they're not too angled: nose-in DD? shoot HE not-so-well-angled DD? shoot SAP angled BB? SAP on the superstructure should do fine, but you might want to go for a fire first not-so-well-angled BB? SAP on the extremities, if you're close enough to hit them reliably, or SAP on some weak upper belts (say, Yamato's, but not GK's).

To Black or not to Black, that is the question!

The torps are very different. Black: good number, decent reload, excellent range, excellent damage, excellent detection...but atrocious speed Kidd: low number, bad reload, decent range, good damage, good detection, bad speed Also, I understand Black can't take the speed boost if she takes radar (which she will), and without the speedboost she's more vulnerable to enemy torps, especially while smoked up.

Port -> Ranks -> Ranks (not "Rewards") -> there should be a ( i ) circle next to the "Sprint 2" -> put your mouse cursor on it

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

An absurd couple of games in the Aoba. I got sloppy when approaching the Serov, couldn't dodge all the torps and even got permaflooded I sank her anyway, but I was too low to get the prize, meaning the 2 DDs and the A cap. Still, our BBs blew it by not capping The finale was worthy of Jingles: after being down most of the match, we almost tie the points and caps they have a Nagato, a low-hp Gneis and a sub vs Furious, Gneis and low-hp Tarigo, already on 4 kills Tarigo goes down to the BBs, but gets Kraken + Flesh Wound on the Nagato (our Gneis flubbed the torps and salvo at 3 km ) the sub torps our Gneis, but she survives and sinks the other Gneis with the rear turret alone the sub gets cocky, emerges, takes a lot of damage, sink our Gneis with one torp, red team is on 999 points...but he sinks the next second, and we clean out.
  8. Steel: 2/year. I have a good surplus, but not enough for a "leap ship". Coal: about 5/year of the expensive ones. Research Bureau: 3/year, could've been more but for several Unique Upgrades.

is Rupprecht significantly better than Zieten?

Zieten was alright, a good performer for me in Randoms. Tier-for-tier, I like the Rupprecht better, but then again I've been playing her mostly in Ranked, where she truly shines. The secondaries are a big step up and for area denial 16 torps are just great. It's all about having patience: the guns are alright, so you should chip away at your targets as long as the situation doesn't favor a push. And make sure you only push ships that are nose-in or won't be able to escape in time anyway: if you can't use your secondaries, pretty much anyone is going to out-trade you.

    Cherbourg?

Like what, at that tier? Cherbourg is almost 10 knots faster with the speed boost, has 3-4 heals and can overmatch the 16 mm extremities of some light cruisers, like Neptune, Colbert, Algérie, etc. I'd say she's a pretty good package, though admittedly I've only played her with a much better captain...
  11. tocqueville8

    Cherbourg?

Easier MM, hydro and a proper French speedboost, not the lame one that the JB and the tech tree BBs get. Also, it's nice to have a heal on a T8 cruiser that's not a premium nor a floating citadel...
  12. tocqueville8

    This or that?

Neustra doesn't play like Udaloi imho: she's slower and has 27% less firepower. While her consumables are almost identical (her heal is better, obviously), her stealth can't be ignored. I'd say she's more like a super-Ognevoi, instead. I think the Khaba can be played like a clumsier, more gun-focused Udaloi, but only with the Legendary upgrade. Then again, I'm crap with her anyway...
  13. I don't depend on that: I just use it because it's got a nice user interface and I can mess around with ships I don't own, but am interested in. This is from the "Detection" page on the wiki: A ship's detectability range can be decreased by using certain upgrades, skills and camouflage. The bonuses from each stack together multiplicatively, so a Kagero (with base sea detectability range of 6.84 km), when fully decked out for concealment, can have a sea detectability range as low as 5.37 km.
  14. To be fair, there's still a multiplication, but it is confusing because it adds second-order terms with a different sign. Let's say: SC = Stock Concealment FC = Final Concealment E = Concealment Expert buff = 10% M = Concealment Systems Mod 1 = 10% L = Legendary Module = 20% The OP thought it would be: FC = SC * (1 - E - M - L) = SC - SC * (E + M + L) = 9.88 - 3.95 Instead it's: FC = SC * (1 - E) * (1 - M) * (1 - L) = SC - SC * (E + M + L) + SC * (E*M + E*L + M*L) - SC (E*M*L) = 9.88 - 3.95 + 0.49 - 0.02 EDIT: added the third-order term, which is of course one order of magnitude smaller (this is all without camo, I was too lazy...)
  15. Combat perks in this game are multiplicative, and the order of factors doesn't alter the product. It may not be specified in port, but you just have to read the wiki or other resources. Examples: Fire duration on BBs, with all perks: 60 seconds (stock) * 85% (DmgCon mod 2) * 85% (BoS) * 80% (flag) = 34.7 seconds It's not 60s * (100% - 15% - 15% - 20%) = 30s, even though you might think that way. Reload, e.g. on the Regolo: 5.5s (stock) * 88% (Main Battery Mod 3) * 90% (Fearless Brawler) = 4.36s It's not 5.5s * (100% - 12% -10%) = 4.29s Smoke duration, e.g. on the Vampire II: 90s (stock) * 110% (cpt skill) * 115% (flag) * 130% (coal module) = 148s It's not 90s * (100% + 10% + 15% + 30%) = 139.5s So your point just falls apart, I'm afraid. When in doubt, especially before an expensive purchase, ask around or use a website like wowsft.com to check what the build would do to your ship. That's the wrong attitude to bring to your first LU Kléber game. She's a good ship, but you have to trust her: https://replayswows.com/replay/146514#stats Cheers

I wouldn't: there are probably going to be more coal auctions in the future, and last time the price went down to 100M. I don't need to be a cynic to guess they're going to action the Enterprise for dubs one of these days...

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

This thing looks like a Dunkerque that hasn't had anything to eat in 3 days... Anyway...1st game was a complete stomp: I kept speedbosting around, but the enemies just vanished in front of me. The map felt ghostly and empty, like the town in Silent Hill 2 or something... 2nd game I lurked around the central islands on Canada, ambushing DDs apparently: low damage, but 2.2k base xp. The secondaries were oddly effective 3rd and last game so far, this time top tier. Once both teams were down a few ships, things loosened up and I found more broadsides, so I kinda did a speedrun on the flank, sinking everything in sight. And I got reported... I'll be honest: the firepower on this thing is annoyingly low, but the utility and mobility make up for it...if the game goes the distance. In the first 10 minutes, she struggles to have an impact.

Incomparable vs Stalingrad: the 1st looks more whacky gimmicky, the 2nd more consistent and just better for carrying. But I got the Slava last month, so that should be enough railguns for a while. Also Hornet / Saipan / P. Eugen / Kidd / California / Bearn / Warspite for dubs. The Nueve also looks interesting, now that I have a Pan American captain... I'm leaning towards Hornet, especially after revisiting the story about the "flight to nowhere" and VT-8 All good choices, honestly: it's hard to recommend one... ...but a full-secondary Napoli can be very addictive to play, and her games tend to be unique and memorable.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

As I said, I'm struggling to make her work...but she's a real ship and that permacamo is the only logical use of the Ranked tokens...
  21. tocqueville8

    Yo... Wedgie....WHAT ze actual fluff....

That's my point. The number of flags one can get is capped, the number of games one can play is not. I might get 2x the flags of a more casual player, but if I play 3 times as many games, with a similar setup, I'll have a lower reserve. Right now, I have 100s of camos because I rarely use them: I rarely put them on premium ships, and I don't play tech-tree ships very often. At the same time, I don't have more than 30 flags of most kinds. It used to be different when achievements gave us flags...
  22. tocqueville8

    Yo... Wedgie....WHAT ze actual fluff....

Frankly, I think it's the opposite. I've seen screenshots of people with hundreds of combat signals, as well as a lot of special signals, while I'm always running low. Casual players are still going to get some flags from daily, weekly and monthly missions and containers. As a very active player, I'll get more of them, in fact pretty much all of them, but I play proportionally more games, so I get fewer flags per game, effectively. It might be different for camos: I play a lot of freemium ships with their stock permacamo, plus I got many from supercontainers from the Anniversary Event. So I have a stockpile of that, inevitably. But flags? I use few per game yet have few, because I keep playing after the first few games that give all the daily rewards.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I got the Flint with the coal from the auction, plus the permacamo with the Ranked tokens. However, she now looks like a floating autopsy I'm finding her very tricky to play, at least solo. Most DDs just don't screen, they either camp behind me or sail to the map border... Anyway, this was my best game so far, and by quite a margin

Roosevelt, Still the Terror of the Skies?

I'm considering her because she's the only steel ship that was built for real... ...but I'll probably end up with the Incomparable, plus the Hornet with the Ranked dubs
