What is a reset of your account and is it a smart thing to do?
tocqueville8 replied to RazorBlade72's topic in General Discussion
I don't mean to be insulting, but what makes you think you can do better now? Your winrate, PR and average damage have been about the same over the past 7-21 days as they have overall. You clearly have a lot of room for improvement, but it doesn't look like it's happening already. Alright, your kill/death ratio and your survival rate are both up, which might be a good thing, but the overall performance is unmoved. I think you should consider asking for specific advice. You're a DD main, mostly playing torpedoboats (you have more games in the Shima than I do in...anything), yet they're not really working for you. Assuming you don't want to branch out into other classes, why don't you ask for help improving your torpedoboat play? You could post a couple of replays here and let better players give you some pointers. Or maybe ask for someone to "mentor" you a bit: that should improve your stats much more than resetting them and trying again would. Cheers -
I am playing the Shchors with full health and while I was playing I have been killed with one salvo. by a battleship!

You have 5 games in Coop and 52 in Randoms: there are lots of things you haven't seen yet, and you've sort of rushed your way to Tier 7. There's nothing suspicious about a mid-tier light cruiser getting blown up by a BB. Been there, done that, plenty of times, at the giving or the receiving end. -
My 1st one today was a double. My impression is that doubles and triples have gotten rarer, but I've learned not to trust my impressions

Which T9 ship to use the perma bonus on?
tocqueville8 replied to deathsadow's topic in General Discussion
That one is filled already by the Kitakaze, there i have both for the T9 and T8 the perma camo, other lines i dont even plan on regrinding, so im just mostly looking for a unique and fun T9 to use the 2nd one on. Always regrinding the same line can get boring imho: I believe I've done about 10 different ones, and I always have 2-3 ongoing, as I don't want my RB progress to be tied down to playing any one particular ship. I put my "Five Epochs..." permacamos on Kitakaze & Tashkent, for the regrinds. I also put New Year's permacamos on Shokaku, Mogami, Alsace and Benson, for the same reason. Good tech-tree Tier 9 ships, imho, are: Yugumo, Ibuki, Iowa, Udaloi, Z-46, Neptune, Mogador, Chung Mu. -
New "economic rework" is a grinding disaster
tocqueville8 replied to anonym_ntfKigmJ0k9e's topic in General Discussion
The old Type 59 camo used to give +200% xp and it cost 125 gold per game to resupply. Granted, it also acted as a cpt xp and a free xp booster, but I would say the ship xp part was worth at least 50 out of 125 dubs. By this logic, the price is about half what it used to be in the old system, the opposite of a "cash grab". For the very good reason that otherwise inexperienced players would get to Tier 10 waaaay too soon, something the more experienced and/or better players have frequently complained about. If the system is incomprehensible how come everyone else comprehended it? You just showed us what functional illiteracy looks like, but instead of admitting you made a mistake and being gracious about it, you're attacking WG for no clear reason and its "fanbois". Next time, read the article in full and, if you have questions, just ask them like a polite person. -
The original line is also CAs, at least from the Algérie onwards. It's a bit too soon to say, but it appears the new line works alright Given that they have cruiser-like bow armor, you should really avoid nose-in fights with BBs until you have to push in the late game. Instead, use your speed boost to flank and crossfire early. Also, it might be worth it to go for range instead of reload, so as to keep a good turret traverse. They're not very strong in the early game, but later on their mobility and firepower allow for decisive plays.

Supership Patri in auction will be obtainable later in the tech tree with half the price?
tocqueville8 replied to luokailk's topic in General Discussion
I honestly have no idea how these values are obtained: the stock vertical dispersion for the Alsace, for instance, is 162 m at 20 km according to shiptool, but 159 at 20.30 km following wowsft. -

tocqueville8 replied to luokailk's topic in General Discussion
The horizontal dispersion is the same R [km] * 9.8 + 66 m on all four, and I'm pretty sure the vertical one is the same, accounting for the different max ranges, if these values are correct. -

Patrie appears to have the same dispersion formula and the same sigma as the Bourgogne. -

I don't usually play Kearsarge, but when I do, I lose 3/4 of my hp in 5 minutes and the rest is a survival horror -

When I got the Jean Bart back in the day, I was once farmed pretty badly by a Neptune, so from then on, whenever I was playing with my regular div buddies, it became a "thing" that I would focus any enemy Neptune to get First Blood and Dev Strike, which happened fairly often. I ended up liking the Neptune quite a bit when I got to grind her, but it's always been a sort of "white whale" to play against...

Frankly, if I had the PR already, I think I'd go for the dubs -
This is how I tried to reply to you on Reddit, before you deleted your own post: I dunno: what are you doing wrong? You couldn't have been more vague. What do you die to? Torps? Fires? Citadel hits? Planes...? Playing BBs isn't easier than playing the other classes. It's best to clear out these misconceptions. If you want to play better, you can watch videos of how better players play, preferably with commentary. Some excellent players are also streamers and upload a few replays, sometimes with ship reviews, on their Youtube channel, like PotatoQuality, MalteseKnight, Flamu, Flambass, etc. However, they mostly play high tiers, so it might feel like a different ecosystem. Ditto for this YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/HLPWorldofWarshipsreplays, which features some great performances, but almost exclusively in Tier 10 ships. Similarly for Panzerknacker's channel. There's a website (https://replayswows.com/) for uploading replays where you can search by ship and many of the best replays have been turned into Youtube videos. I'm nowhere near as good as those guys above, but I even I have over 150 replays on video: https://replayswows.com/profile/545206440/sort/uploaded_at.desc/ And a lot of replays on this site are of low and mid-tier ships, so they might be more helpful. You can also use the same website to upload your replays and ask people here to give you more specific advice. Join a clan with people willing to coach inexperienced players. Again, you can look to the relevant section in the forum, or discord, etc. EDIT: Also, you have fewer than 200 battles, and that's including Co-op, so you'd be still in protected/newcomer matchmaking if you were playing Tier 4 at most. Instead, your most-played ship is the New Orleans. That's a no-no.

BoS is inconsequential if you run Fire Prevention, Emergency Repair Expert and DmgCon Mod2. Secondary range is the better option, but even Vigilance + Pyro would be better. Or faster heals, as you're going to take a lot of potential damage and you've committed to 5 heals, so you might as well have them reload earlier (Preussen really pushing that "German Ohio" thing...). Plus you can always buy some flags for shorter fires and longer heals. In fact, I'd do that, skip BoS and skip DmgCon Mod 2 as well, in favor of Engine or Rudder in slot #4. Agility is important when brawling.

Didn't have enough patience to 1v1 the Petro, so I rammed to at least defend the cap. Thing is, there might have been enough time to do it and then sink that Immelmann...

Exploring the FreeXP ship options
tocqueville8 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
None of them overperforms nor underperforms for me, so my view is that you should look at them in terms of competition with other ships you have, tech tree or preemium, and captain availability. For instance: Groningen has some traits of Harugumo, F. Sherman, Z-52, Vampire, maybe even Daring Azuma has something of Zao and Yoshino (obviously), Hindenburg, Goliath, maybe even Venezia (ballistics, the ability to slap DDs...) Agir looks close to the Azuma, but she's a much worse HE spammer. Imho she plays a bit like the new French battlecruisers, in that she's kind of bad early on but she can push successfully later with her utility: instead of speed boost and reload boost, she gets better nose armor, torps and good AA, for when you're one of the few ships alive for the CV to focus. -
Can someone explain this too me? FXP rewards are garbage....
tocqueville8 replied to Migantium_Mashum's topic in General Discussion
Just an example: OLD SYSTEM: - special signals ("dragon flags") used to give a total +325% ship XP and +1227% FXP - economic signals used to give +50% SXP and +300% FXP - the base FXP rate was 5% If you ran, say, a Ranked Silver camo (+100% SXP, +100% CXP, +200% FXP), premium time (1.65 times the SXP) and had your regular first win of the day bonus (+50% SXP), with no clan bonuses, you would get: SXP = base XP * 165% * (1 + 50% + 100% + 50% + 325%) = base xp * 165% * 625% = base xp * 1,031%, so about 10 times more SXP than base XP FXP = SXP * 5% * (1 + 1227% + 300% + 200%) = SXP * 5% * 1,827% = 91.35% SXP, so slightly less FXP than SXP, and again about 9-10 times more FXP than base XP Example: a 1650 base xp game would give 17,011 ship XP and 15,540 FXP NEW SYSTEM - new base FXP rate of 10% - top FXP booster = +7,200% - same conditions for the rest FXP = base XP * 1.65 * 10% * (1 + 50% + 7,200%) = about 12 times more FXP than base XP Example: a 1650 base xp game would give 20,010 FXP With these assumptions, the new system allows you higher potential earnings, but you really need that +7,200% (level 4, red colour) booster. As far as I can tell, the weekly containers only give the level 3 ones (blue). Which means -
Why can I exchange a big eco bonus for more smaller ones but not do the opposite?
tocqueville8 replied to elblancogringo's topic in General Discussion
Probably because WG wants you to play more games and keep the server populated. If we could combined bonuses, we'd get all our daily containers and make good progress grinding in just a few games. -
It might be in part that Smaland and Vampire are premiums, so all other things being equal I'd rather play them for the economy But to me the Vampire is even better around caps, and the Smaland can open-water better, in case I need to act as a distraction: I can do my own spotting, I can torp with more range, the ballistics are better, the speed boost allows me to tank potential damage better, and I can actually challenge the CV and shoot down some planes, instead of mostly hiding from them. Basically, if I'm not dealing with the enemy DD, I can keep a BB busy and maybe the CV as well, and trade reasonably well with both. Since playing some Clan Battles, I've been taking a range perk, so that helps... Especially when so many BBs have hydro I think for a lot of players it's just the first Tier 10 DD they got, or the one they're most experienced with.
