Nothing I've written betrays a "lack of education", let alone arrogance. On the contrary, I was perfectly polite. You, on the other hand, made some disparaging comment, which you then edited, about me "spending my father's money on the game", which is of course false, and you called your teammates "cowards" and (wink wink) "smart players" for not conforming to your objectively poor standard of play. It's hard to argue with this: the numbers are there to prove it. Something could be done about it, but not with your present attitude. Cheers

Arms Race. I was off sick for three months. I see this is now compulsory for tier 9 Upwards. Where is the best guide to understand this POS? Thanks!

1) Someone has to at least stop the enemy from getting the cap, once it appears: otherwise you lose very quickly, as it generates a lot of points. 2) Don't just rush to an orgy of death in the cap. As long as the only enemies taking it aren't stealthy (DDs, subs, smoke cruisers), you can reset and surround them for easy kills. 3) Get the buffs, but don't lose your ship for one of them, which alone hardly makes any difference. Arguably, DDs and cruisers without a heal might benefit more from the hp and healing buffs, as they allow them to stay in the game longer 4) Also, as long as you have the hp to fight, don't hang back just to get that other buff you missed: be where you need to be anyway, from a strategic standpoint, and get the buffs along the way. I'd rather have my DD spotting and screening the enemy DD than having it behind me waiting to get me a 5% reload buff. 5) The buffs raise the damage ceiling considerably (my record went from 360k to 412k...), so don't think you've won already just because you've done good damage: everything is inflated a bit, don't get ahead of yourself. -

Tell us how you really feel -
What I feel is that sometimes there are a lot of anti-DD ships with few "traditional DDs" to deal with. I just had a game where both teams had a Ragnar, plus there were 2 Stalingrads, a Nevsky and 2 Venezias (myself included). That would've made a lot of sense with a couple of Gearings or Shimas around, instead it was an overreaction to non-existent DDs.

IIRC, winning or losing doesn't make a difference for your credits, only for your xp. There's no credit bonus for winning. Winning a game with less than 1000 xp, at high tiers, is not very good, so you lost a bit of credits. That's pretty much how it's always worked, to make people slow down before reaching Tier 10 and to encourage them to buy premium ships or premium time.

Kearsarge .... thoughts?
tocqueville8 replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
Not quite "at the start": you have to wait a few minutes for the planes to load, and by the time you can bring them to the enemy your DDs might've already spotted someone. If you use them then, you might lose the opportunity for a good early salvo. In theory, yes. In practice, the reticle is very wide horizontally, so if your target is running away you have to come at it with a flanking maneuver, which takes a while. Trickier than you might think: the shells are slow, so if the DD isn't stalking you up close it will be hard for you to connect. As for spotting it for your teammates, your planes can't take their usual survivability perks, so they get shot down rather quickly. You can initiate an attack and then not go through with it, but only so many times... Overall, Kearsarge is my best-performing Tier 9-10 BB in Randoms, but the sample is still fairly small because...well...she's not very exciting to play. You mean the Black? It's a Fletcher hull, Tier 9. Napoli is far from boring and quite different from Venezia, in my experience. In fact, she's arguably worse overall, but a much better brawler thanks to those insane secondaries (I've done 50-80k dmg with those alone, in some games). Very unique ship, very replayable. She's only boring if you play her like an Italian Yoshino. -

Weren't they supposed to have capped DDs+subs at 5 per team? And even that is one too many imho... -
Shiki - Incomparable - Mecklenberg - Bourgogne

Yep, her stats are solid. The main reason I didn't get her last time is that she looks like an FdG sidegrade, while Incomparable is more unique in appearance. -
Suggestions on Research Bureau Ship
tocqueville8 replied to OaksMokedBacon's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I find Vampire is the strongest, but Colbert the most fun: I have more games in her than in any other ship, if you include Ranked. Some nice examples: https://replayswows.com/replay/156251#video (almost 3k xp in a fairly quiet game) https://replayswows.com/replay/159096#video (over 3.5k xp in Ranked) https://replayswows.com/replay/159019#video (almost 3k xp, a nice push during cyclone) Druid is also a good pick: less versatile than Daring or Vampire, but a lot of fun if you position well. She can pull some crazy stunts against light cruisers, especially the Minotaur line. Ohio is good, but not quite as good as all the recommendations suggest, imho. These are some strong games I had in her: https://replayswows.com/replay/162345#video (412k dmg in Arms Race) https://replayswows.com/replay/162381#video (300k dmg, 6 kill...) TL; DR: if you're feeling brave, go for Colbert or Druid first, while Vampire and Ohio are safer picks. -
Fuso has good armor, with a 35 mm deck that shatters heavy cruiser HE, plus a 152 mm upper belt. The casemate guns make for a lot of AP traps, but overall the armor profile is solid. Then Amagi gets a turtleback, and Izumo & Yamato have strong deck armor (and a weak upper belt, unfortunately). Fuso has notoriously bad concealment, and Nagato isn't much better - but Amagi is pretty stealthy, and Izumo and Yamato are reasonable. Fuso (again...) has poor dispersion, but that's because she has the most guns and the best stock reload. The rest of the line (except possibly the Kawachi, but it's been years...) is very accurate. The damage output is fine, if you know where and when to aim. Yamato can even lolpen other BBs through the bow. Nagato is the low point for me overall: don't judge the line based on the her. Mid-to-long-range sniping, which is pretty logical for battleships, if you ask me.

Nah. Judging by your performance, your teams don't win (when they do) because of your early attack but despite your early attack. Pushing is sometimes needed to win, especially if you're on the strong flank and you must overwhelm the opposition to go surround the rest of the enemy team while your weak flank delays them. But do it too early and you're just throwing your ship away. You're not a "courageous" player: you're an impatient one, with accordingly low survival rate. You're wasting your ships for quick gratification, and your teams suffer from it. And those you call "cowards" and (ironically) "smart players" are probably just playing better. Stop throwing your ship away, stop blaming your teammates for not going along with your playstyle, and start playing for damage and wins. Better stats, better earnings, better karma and (probably) a better experience will follow.

Shiki - Incomparable - Mecklenberg - Bourgogne
tocqueville8 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
Incomparable is very squishy: It's not just the poor armor on the extremities, it's also the very low hp pool. The superheal allows you to ignore fires (sometimes), but it does nothing for your citadel protection, as it only heals 10% of the damage, not 33-50% as is the case for cruisers. As a result, citadel (from guns or bombs) and torpedo hits (her bulge is pathetic) will completely cripple her. Also, the range is bad for Randoms, so you have to sacrifice some DPM to make her comfortable. While the surface concealment is excellent, the air concealment is pretty standard, so if you show broadside early in a CV game you might lose 1/3 of your hp right away (she also turns poorly). Contrary to what some say, I found the torps to be very useful, and not just in Ranked. Overall, she can be fun in chaotic games, especially if they go the distance and you can do some 1v1 later on, when your overmatch, speed, surface concealment and torps are a great combo. However, she's generally inconsistent. I think she needs a small buff, either to the hp or the % of citadel damage you can heal. Shikishima is almost my top Tier 10 BB in Randoms, going by solo WR: Granted, a lot of this was from the Dead Eye days, when she could really slap people across the map, but she remains a much better Yamato (339 solo games, 54% WR for me). The guns are a sidegrade, I would say, but she's also a bit more maneuverable and has much better AA, which will keep a lot of CVs from griefing you too hard. I've done alright even with a secondary build, though I wouldn't recommend it. The other two I don't have. Cheers -
Myriad damage? Your Izumo average is 2/3 the server average. Same for the Yamato. With Brindisi, you're at 40%. You have to raise your expectations quite a bit. Then meet them. Then see if you're still disappointed with the earnings.

For the same performance, winning or losing makes no difference to the credit earnings. And I don't know about tier 8, but without premium time it's never been easy to make positive credits at tier 9, in a tech-tree ship.

I think the idea is to have the heal on as you trade shots with the enemy, or have a fire burning. If you wait to disengage before using it, you'll be wasting your time. -
If it worked like that, what would stop you from resetting the line 10 times in a row, play it once, and get 10 times the points? Or 100 times and 100 more points, for the same effort? You have to research the line (either by playing it, or with free XP) to accumulate points on it, then play it to obtain them. If you have lots of free XP, you can use it to research the line several times, resetting it every time at the end, postponing the moment you're going to actually buy the ships and play them to get those points. This saves credits, and it's a reasonable use of free XP now that no more ships are going to be introduced for that currency.

How is it any different from before?
-
But how does that apply to WoWs? Has anyone ever reported being offered any sort of "enhanced/protected/special MM" by WG? Maybe some below-average player, I suppose? WG monetized camos and flags, premium ships and economic earnings (premium time), lootboxes and early access ships...but I've yet to see it sell better matchmaking.

You can kill a ship with a couple of overpens after someone crippled her with 3 citadels or some torps: damage (plus a bonus for the kill) is a much better metric than kills alone. Caps are also a bad measure in Ranked: one is basically free for the guy that spawns closest, while the one between the teams depends a lot on how they set themselves up.
-
But you're not a coin: you're a human being. Losing a couple of games in a row can be annoying and lead you to play worse the next time, out of frustration. That lowers your expected WR, and at that point it's not a fair coin anymore. Likewise, if you start winning a few games in a row, which will happen occasionally in a purely random way, you might feel encouraged and play even better, making another win more likely than usual. You'll be more patient when defending and more self-confident when attacking, both of which are good. Or not: you might get lazy, sloppy and careless. But that's up to player psychology. My point is: your teammates, ship lineups and RNG aren't the only variable in those games. You're also a variable
-
You can always sell them for half the credits, or even better if you reset the lines (the modules are dismounted for free instead of being sold, so you keep 100% of their value). I say buy, and get those super containers a month from now.
