Why is the EU Tier X DD "Smaland" considered "over popular" (in light of DevBlog: Changes in availability of several ships)?
tocqueville8 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
This is confusing. The Alaska has been around far longer than the Smaland, and unlike with Thunderer, Georgia and Smolenk (back a few months ago), I'm not really seeing many of them in Random. I've had games with 5 Thunderers, never with more than 2 Alaskas. Oh well, gotta grind that free xp for the Smaland, I guess... -
This argument makes no sense to me. WoWs is complex enough that even excellent players can lose about 1/3 of Random games. That doesn't mean that winrate, or other stats, are faulty. Take chess: even the best players in the world draw a ton of games against inferior (obviously, not too inferior) competition. And they occasionally lose. And that's a 1v1 game with perfect information on both sides. WoWs is a 12v12 game most of the time, and enemies can surprise you. Solo WR, at least at high tiers and with some variety of ships, remains by far the best metric of a player's skill, imho. What's worthless, if anything, is the skill of non-randomly picked teams, i.e. when people play in divisions a lot, with friends either below or above 50%. If some guys is 52% solo and 58% in a div, is it because his div buddies are also good and they reinforce each other, or because he's stopped playing solo and is now playing only div, so his overall improvement in the game, which comes from experience, is correlated to playing in a div, but not entirely caused by it? It's complicated...

No, non penso.

Esempio #1: Il mio Shima a centro immagine, i 15 siluri lanciati vanno verso Nord. La telecamera dovrebbe essere sui siluri (tasto Z), ma è rimasta indietro rispetto alla nave, come se non sapesse che i siluri sono vari km più a Nord. Consumabile cortina fumogena bloccato. Esempio #2: Stessa partita. La minimappa mi mostra in B, sono in realtà in C. Consumabile accelerazione bloccato. Conqueror alleata a centro immagine (nell'area di cattura), invisibile. I tubi lanciasiluri non funzionano. Gli indicatori delle squadre non funzionano correttamente.

I'm seeing this exact same problem. Enemy ships become ghosts, I can't launch torps or, if I can, I don't see them traveling. I don't see my shells (even though I can fire the guns and I get hit ribbons, provided I hit the ghostly enemies). Caps and timers work fine, but the list of ships still in the match doesn't update correctly, etc. It seems to happen in almost every first DD game of a gaming session, apparently as a consequence of the combined use of smoke and torpedoes. Cruisers with torps and/or smoke (Trento, Mogami...) also show this problem, albeit less frequently. If I restart the client, it usually goes away, at least for the first game. Then again, I haven't run extensive tests. In some battles, the game might glitch back to normal after a minute or so, but most of the times it does not. Don't tell me it's a performance issue. I'm used to the game running less smoothly if I increase video quality and such, and I'm used to the occasional disconnect as well, but this is on a whole other level, and completely unprecedented in my experience. And it just doesn't happen to me in BBs or CVs, at all. I've had this problem in almost every Shima game I've played since I recently got the ship, and it's made me put several T9 DD grinds on halt. And yes, since the last patch I've noticed that the last screenshot shown before the endgame results is actually from the previous game, as well as the minimap not showing the islands at the very beginning of every new game. Example #1: that's my Shima in the middle of the screen, my 15 torps in the background, going North. I'm using the torpedo camera, but for some reason this is South of me, as though the torps never moved once launched. Example #2: the minimap shows me in B, I'm actually at C; the friendly Conqueror in the middle is invisible (you can make out a faint outline if you squint); my speed boost has been on 0.0 seconds forever; the torpedo launcher can't aim; the teams list on top of the screen is messed up. Let me reiterate: this is making playing DDs, and some cruisers, extremely frustrating. I can't commit camos and special flags, play in a division or play competitive modes, on these ships, until this problem has been solved. So far I've seen it happening with: Fletcher, Shimakaze, Udaloi, Tashkent, Trento, Mogami (though in the case of the latter, it did glitch away after a minute or so). It has happened to me while in a division, but my mates were fine and noticed nothing weird other than my bad aim. I've checked the replay of my 1st instance (Fletcher, Epicenter, Tears of the Desert), but the replay once again shows nothing weird, other than my odd behavior.
